Hi all. I hope you've been doing well this month.

As I start to play catchup on archiving recent faire season shenanigan's, I wanted to first and foremost start with a shout-out out to the crew that joined me at this years Midsummer Faire.

Every year comes with new challenges and obstacles to overcome, and this year was no exception, but through it all, it was the team that made it as fun and memorable as it was. ❤️

I feel truly fortunate to have found the squad I have, and I'm so grateful to have had their help and support this season and the days outside of it.

Thank you all so much. You truly add the feeling of family to faire. ❤️

Fionna & Cake trailer, Side Quests intro shown at the Annecy film festival

Today, 11 June 2025, Warner Bros. Animation held a panel on upcoming projects, which included a screening of the Fionna & Cake season two trailer and title sequence AND a work in progress title sequence for Side Quests. This probably means the Fionna & Cake season two trailer will be released publicly very soon! There is still no release date announced for either project but it shouldn't be long now.

Rebecca Sugar will be writing a new song for season two. We also learned that Huntress Wizard will play a big role in season two, which we already pretty much knew, and that the second season will focus less on multiverse shenanigans and more on Fionna's own world.

There were no further announcements regarding the Adventure Time movie or Heyo BMO. Apart from Adventure Time, new spin-off series have been confirmed and named for Steven Universe, Regular Show, and Gumball.

Hi! Thank you so much for all your analysis, I really enjoy them!! Did you find it strange when Alhaitham, at the end of the event, said he is not interested in visiting the temple of Silence for that gem? Because Alhaitham has always been one to pursue knowledge (sometimes to the extreme, i.g archon quest, where he offers to be taken as a hostage instead to learn more about the truth) Even Kaveh was confused by his answer. I wonder if Alhaitham only meant it in a "I wouldn't go through the trouble JUST for this gem" or if this might be a potential hint to his next storyquest? Idk, it just stood out to me that even Kaveh commented on it, when he knows Alhaitham the best.

i'm glad you enjoy them, thank you so much!! anon this is a delicious sumptuous question, this ??? inkling has been rattling around in my head since finishing the quest, so thank you for giving me a chance to break my own thoughts down about this!

alhaitham's own thoughts about the wedjat eye are that there is little more research to be carried out, as the wedjat eye is perceived as a piece of history, whose purpose and meaning has already been identified - and this can contrast against his active research pursuit with the forbidden canned knowledge capsules as it was uncertain what danger they posed, and the root of the danger

but kaveh points out (as you rightfully say) that since the gem is a legendary historical artifact, it's strange that alhaitham isn't interested in at least seeing it, to which alhaitham states that he refuses to go to the temple of silence to do so because it's too far for him, which is so funny to me??

as if he isn't seen roaming around in the desert and going on research trips to ruins in his character trailer, as well as the latter part of the archon quest taking place in the desert. i suppose that since alhaitham had personal motives to be in the desert these times, and, apparently the wedjat eye doesn't particularly interest him, that he isn't willing to make the journey this time, okay give us nothing!!!

alhaitham brings up the chance of the wedjat eye being brought to the akademiya for appraisal, and says that in that case, he would take a look, as he likes to know when interesting things are brought to the akademiya - which can be seen as well in his story quest, where he keeps files on interest on his desk that the player can read

i think it's interesting that it is sethos himself who directly invites alhaitham to look at the wedjat eye for research when it's now contained in the temple of silence, as in cyno's second story quest, when the temple of silence is explored, sethos gives cyno and lord kusanali permission to choose people deemed "worthy" to pursue knowledge in the temple of silence, warning that they must be careful with their choice of candidates

cyno then extends this invitation to kaveh and alhaitham, with them seemingly being these 'candidates', as kaveh says he is interested in visiting the temple of silence in order to look through ancient documents, with cyno saying "that day will come" which seems to imply the temple of silence being at the centre of some future event

each sumeru event (an odd textual mystery and now nahida's birthday event) since then has, of course, included sethos, as he is now a mainline sumeru cast character, and the mention of the wedjat eye now belonging to the temple of silence is consistent with maintaining the organisation as a pivotal part of sumeru

whilst alhaitham's reluctance to physically go there seems to be for comedic purposes, in line with him not helping with the celebrations as it isn't part of his job description (oh but you can head on over to port ormos for no apparent reason to yap with kaveh and leave to go back to the house of daena? like it's a brisk stroll away?? SICK!) i think it's very likely that we'll get more of an exploration of the temple silence in future events (or perhaps a sethos hangout which i am once again asking for), especially (as you say) alhaitham is associated with pursuing knowledge, and the temple of silence is described by sethos to be the hub of this, i'll assume that there has to be something there that entices him to make the journey

as for the wedjat eye being brought to the akademiya, i'm not so sure if this will be explored in an event or character story? the purpose of it seems to be fully explored in this event, with candace being the only one to be able to operate it, and with alhaitham saying that there's no need to study it further could be a narrative choice of essentially wrapping up this story thread - but who knows?? (thinking along these lines, it's notable that candace shows the wedjat eye to the traveller and paimon, but doesn't reveal it to alhaitham and kaveh when directly discussing it, ensuring that the two never see it...? worms in brain actually)

going back to the temple of silence, the information it actually possesses regarding king deshret's civilisation being a mystery, as well as the wedjat eye being a gift from king deshret now being contained there, (along with mehrak's core being from king deshret's civilisation which i think would be very !!! to explore), is really interesting to me, especially with the emphasis on there coming a 'day' in which it's possible for the temple of silence to be explored by the main crew, or those that cyno and nahida select as candidates. i'm very much hopeful that hoyo will fulfill this foreshadowing!!

Harding Week Day 5

Faith/Cooking

In the aftermath of 'The Demon's Bargain' and 'Bloodbath,' both of the team cooks are out of commission and Lace Harding is inspired to take up the slack (with some unexpected help.) ~1,700 words.

Lace Harding stood in the kitchen area of the lighthouse, a handful of thoughts looping through her head.

People were hurting.

She wanted - needed - to help.

What would Ma do?

Ma would roll up her sleeves and make dinner, that’s what she would do.

The past few days had been rough. First, Bellara found her brother, who was supposed to be dead, working with some ancient evil asshole and turning people into demons. She was upset and was currently holed up in her room obsessing over the reports from the survivors, fighting with the archive spirit, which apparently belonged to the asshole, and writing out everything she remembered of her brother and his apparently not real death. Neve was with her, trying to provide support and keeping an eye on her.

Then today, Lucanis, Rook, and Taash had gone to Treviso, tracking down a lead about the Venatori who had tortured Lucanis and Spite in the Ossuary and returned literally covered in blood with an unconscious assassin and Rook freaking out about Lucanis' cousin and blood magic. Emmrich and Davrin had both been dragged into the literal and figurative clean up of that mess.

So that left Lace. In the kitchen with her looping thoughts. Her Ma was her role model in so many things and step number one is any care plan orchestrated by her Ma would involve food. Lace knew, sure as sunrise, Ma would cook something and it wouldn’t fix all the problems but it would tell everyone they were seen, show them they were loved, and assure them that they weren’t alone. But she also knew her own talents in the kitchen weren’t up to everyone else’s standards.

But on just a practical level, everyone needed to eat and no one else was around to make it happen. She considered and quickly discarded the idea of sandwiches. They would be easy, but seemed insufficient. If you were hurt or sick or sad, a cold sandwich, even a really good sandwich, just didn’t cut it. With a sigh, Lace grabbed a pile of recipes, neatly stacked and organized on one of the shelves. There had to be something here that she could make, that everyone would like, and that would keep for a bit since Maker knew when everyone would find their way to the kitchen.

“Do you need assistance?”

And now the neatly organized recipes were in a pile on the floor, dropped in surprise. Harding turned to look at the Caretaker who had materialized behind her.

“The other dwellers are distressed, but do not seem to need assistance at this time,” the Caretaker continued. “You are also distressed. Do you need assistance?”

“I’m only distressed because I’m trying to figure out how to take care of everyone else.” Harding bent down to start picking up the scattered recipes. “I don’t suppose you know how to cook?”

“Assistance can be provided,” the Caretaker said.

“Wait, really?” Harding stood up, placing the papers on the counter. “I was kind of joking but - sure, if you can help I won’t say no.”

The Caretaker inclined their head. “What do you wish to create?”

Harding shifted through the papers. “Something warm. Something that will keep. Um, no meat because cooking one thing is going to be hard enough and Emmrich needs to eat too. And all the ingredients need to be out here, I don’t think I can get into the pantry right now without getting in everyone’s way.”

The Caretaker pointed and one of the papers started glowing. Harding picked it up and skimmed it. She remembered this one. Emmrich and Rook had been reminiscing about some hearty vegetable soup the Watchers would make in winter time. Lucanis and Bellara had done their best to try to cobble together a recipe based on the descriptions, passing the paper back and forth, crossing things out and leaving a lot of question marks next to possible ingredients. “I don’t think this one will work.”

“It matches your query.”

“It's a mess and I don’t think it's finished.”

The Caretaker didn’t reply right away. Harding had the impression that it was analyzing something. “You are not confident in your abilities,” it eventually said.

“Oh, I’m very confident in my abilities,” Harding said, putting the paper on the counter with maybe a little more force than necessary and looking through the pans. “My actual abilities. I can track, shoot, make friends - I am a delight at parties. But cooking, like real fancy in a kitchen cooking? People don't like the flavors I like. And I mess up the timing. Or I miss the secret missing steps the recipe assumes everyone already knows. I don’t know them! How am I supposed to know them? Most of my cooking has been over a campfire with field rations.”

Harding put one of the pots on the rune heated surface of the cook area. The Caretaker canted its head to the side. “That one is inadequate. Select a larger size,” it said, mildly.

“See? That’s exactly the kind of thing I don’t know.” Harding switched to a larger pot and looked at the beginning of the recipe. “And stuff like this. ‘Prep aromatics.’ That’s it. What does that even mean?”

“A term for the foundational flavors and scents of a dish. You have access to onions, garlic, carrots, and celery. They can all function in this task.”

Harding eyed the Caretaker, trying to decide if she should take offence at the corrections or be grateful for the guidance. Swallowing her initial reaction, the result of too many frustrating sessions of Ma trying to correct her in the kitchen when all she had wanted to do was run off and explore or shoot or be anywhere but cooped up inside, she nodded. The Caretaker was being helpful and they both wanted the same thing – to take care of their people. “Thank you,” she said, grabbing the ingredients. “What do I do to prep them?”

“Cut the aromatics into small even sized pieces. Consistency allows for even heating.”

Harding grabbed a cutting board. “Were you assuming I wasn’t going to cut everything evenly?”

“I do not presume or make assumptions. I provide assistance.”

“Uh-huh. That’s good though – to know why, right? That it isn’t just a silly rule because some snotty Orlesian chef decided it looked better or something.”

Harding concentrated on her cutting. It wasn’t fast going and it wasn’t going to be perfectly even. Bellara could cut things in a way that was perfectly even. And Lucanis was scary fast, knife flying down his prep space when he was working. But good enough would have to be good enough.

The Caretaker drifted to look over her shoulder. “May I make an inquiry?”

“Huh? Sure, go for it.”

“You are not confident in your ability to cook. There have been no specific requests for you to provide sustenance. Why did you select this avenue to provide comfort?”

Harding frowned, ruminating on her answer while grabbing the container of olive oil on the counter. She was pretty sure she regularly saw both Lucanis and Bellara throw stuff like this into the pan with oil when they were starting a dish. She held it over the pot and looked at the Caretaker. It didn’t try to stop her, so she coated the bottom of the pot.

“I broke my arm once, when I was a kid,” she said, putting the oil aside. “I remember Ma making me chicken soup, even though there were already leftovers or something for dinner. It was exactly what I needed.” Harding poked through the baskets on the floor, picking out potatoes. “And when our neighbor Nan’s husband passed, Ma made her pies. Like, meat pies and fruit pies, enough to keep her fed for the whole week while she was dealing with the chantry services and her kids taking over their Dad’s work on the farm. She was really grateful for that. Like, every time I saw her for years after she’d ask me to let my Ma know how much she appreciated those pies. And when there were refugees in town, Ma would bake extra bread to send to the Chantry. Those people had nothing. Ma’s bread, with some of the good butter, she always sent that too - they were so happy to have it. Cooking for someone lets you care for people in an immediate, practical, tangible way. I’ve always liked that.” Harding started peeling the potatoes. The Caretaker was still watching her, expressionless as always. “It makes me think of home, and of all the times I’ve been taken care of. I might not be great at this, but I’ll pass it forward. Besides, my other options are to be in the way or to do nothing and neither of those sit too good with me, you know?”

The Caretaker bowed its head. “I understand. I also wish to provide assistance.”

“And this is how you’re doing it, because you can’t directly help Bellara or Lucanis right now. So you’re helping me. And we’re cooking dinner. Everyone does what they can and it’ll all work out. Alright, what next?”

The final product might not have been particularly fancy, but Harding was pretty sure it would serve its purpose. As her friends drifted into the dining hall, a palpable sense of adversity hanging over all of them, something that had been circling them since Weisshaupt but now seemed bigger, more immediate and robust and threatening, she was gratified to see appreciative smiles and a hint of a break in the metaphorical clouds as everyone ate their fill. 

She had been most worried about Bellara and Lucanis - the team cooks, both of whom were at the centers of the current shit storms. But Bellara had smiled, teary-eyed, and hugged Harding and then demanded to know what she and the Caretaker had done with the incomplete recipe and wrote it all down. Lucanis was more subdued, but he had two helpings and thanked Harding for cooking, telling her it was very good with a quiet sincerity that made Harding get a little teary-eyed.

The Caretaker lingered as well, an oddity as it was rarely seen in the dining room. Expressionless as always, but Harding could tell it was pleased.

Matt Forsythe, who was lead character designer on season six of Adventure Time, has announced that he is working on a new season of Adventure Time! He is probably referring to Side Quests, the new prequel series announced at Annecy last year. This backs up the rumours that Side Quests is aiming to release in 2026.

I believe Matt Forsythe is the first person to publicly announce they are working on Side Quests, except for Nate Cash who is presumed to be running the show. He mentions in his post that the crew includes some of his old crewmates, as well as new artists.

The attached artwork is Matt's piece for the Gallery Nucleus Adventure Time 15th anniversary exhibition, which opens 31 May.
