Since it's finals week for me i wanted to ask how viktor prepped for finals at the college of techmaturgy and would he pass with flying colors or cram depending on the subject he was studying for

Oh boy, did he cram! Viktor was not one of the exemplary students who diligently did all homework on time, passed every exam with great grades and had their pictures with smug expressions hanged on the walls. He was always hyper-focused on his areas of interest, often spending too much time on hobby projects or taking supplementary classes which left him with not enough time for obligatory ones. College of Techmaturgy is a very particular type of faculty, providing education some would consider too wide for any particular job. This means that Viktor also had mandatory Chemistry class in first year, Common and Astronomy on top of all math, physics, engineering and programming classes. The programme of College of Techmaturgy is notoriously extensive, and only students who are hyper-focused on their role as a student, rather than on the knowledge itself, pass through it without some significant bumps.

There's a saying among the students there, that "nobody truly interested in actually learning something, completes their elementary studies in 4 years".

College of Techmaturgy was a huge part of Viktor's life for 10 years.

is being trans in zaun different than being trans in piltover? is piltover more weird about it?

Not in my experience, though Piltover has more regulated healthcare, which can make it more difficult to access treatment, at least in some ways.

I have, eh, “come out” on this blog as I was directly asked about my gender, but in general, it is not a major part of my identity and does not come up in conversation outside of those with partners. I have the privilege of “passing,” and am happy to do so. I often forget that I was assigned female at birth.

In other words, I have had little occasion to experience what prejudice may exist. But, from observation, it is relatively minor. Piltover suffers from classism more than anything else.

i’m seeing a lot of “fuck jayce for [major act 2 spoilers]” but i think we should hear him out

we don’t know jayce’s reasons specifically yet, but we see multiple indications that viktor’s capacity for human emotional connection—even emotions as basic as affection or anger—have been obliterated by his assimilation into the hexcore, and after whatever he’s done to his followers to heal them, they display a similar lack of human emotion & disturbing religious devotion to him such that they allow him to control their bodies. the moment he’s killed they’re no longer able to function, and he is spreedrunning assimilating as many zaunites into that state as he can. he is essentially on the path to cybermanning all of zaun & making them dependent on him, no less than silco did with shimmer, just with a nicer coat of paint. he didn’t even get to complete the assimilation process with vander and look what it did to him. imagine if he kept doing that to more people.

and remember heimerdinger’s warning about the hexcore. remember that it was a thing that fed on viktor’s blood and killed sky. remember that when viktor was himself he wanted jayce to let him die rather than allow the hexcore to keep evolving. remember that when he was himself that viktor told jayce to destroy the hexcore—which he now is

we don’t know the full extent of what will happen with viktor’s followers due to that assimilation—are they just dead or are they going to live on in some hollowed state?—but jayce clearly knows something we don’t know yet after spending enough time in the wild runes to grow a full ass beard. there’s something else going on with jayce too, there’s that weird blur, and he’s clearly not in a good state, so I’m not saying he’s necessarily in his right mind, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s wrong about this—or at least not totally

I’m so fascinated by your version of Viktor, I love reading about him in your posts . do you have any more headcanons to share ?

I do! I have a mountain of headcanons that were made for the purpose of telling a complete character arc for him in Becoming the Herald comic. Here are some of them.

Viktor felt pretty bad for not fulfilling his father's hopes of following in his footsteps and going into medicine. His father was a surgeon in Zaun's state hospital. It's not that medicine didn't interest Viktor, it's just that techmaturgy always interested him way more. When the whole PhD fiasco happened and Pididly stole the credit while other professors and his colleagues kept silent and refused to lift a finger, when he fell into depression he ended up questioning if he had made the right choice at all going into techmaturgy. Viktor's auto-amputations and merging with his work is also in some part him reclaiming his father's legacy.

He participated in the student protests in Zaun that resulted in elections and many brand new ministers being chosen in the city-state; Zaun is in a unique political system where ministers do not have to be from the same ruling coalition. Viktor invested a lot of his time and energy into the protests (which later on caused him to be deeply disappointed when he saw the system which had apparently been changed, still be terribly unjust towards him.) This happened when he was third year at College of Techmaturgy and was just one of the factors that prolongued his study. He was at CoT for a decade! (And I assure you, this idea completely predates the student protests that are actually taking place in my country right now, I swear. I manifested this or something)

As you could find on his character page on my blog, Viktor has a driving licence of A and B category, but his motorbike is still parked in his parents' garage, gathering dust. You'll have to imagine an appropriate bike design that would fit Zaun's dieselpunk-electric aesthetic for now though! Despite this, he likes public transit because it allows time for sight-seeing and thinking without the stress of driving. He was never a daredevil-type biker, but far from a terrible one. It was more like a pony that rich parents buy for their little prince. (Jesus, what am I writing XD)

Viktor is an anxious person, yet he never shares the burden of that anxiety with others. He overcomes it internally alone and doesn't let it prevent him from working. He used to be more talkative when he was younger - the trauma did a huge number on him and made him much more short on words, sarcastic and sour. This just means that he would again gradually become very talkative if he connected with someone he trusted, especially on subjects that interest him. One of characteristics of talking to him is that it can be felt that he listens to what the other person is saying with complete attention. He doesn't invade people's personal space, unless they're his friends. And he hasn't had friends in a long time.

Viktor values his hair greatly and considers it one of the symbols of his masculinity. He pays attention to other people's hairstyles and how well they wear them/execute them. If he doesn't like someone, all the chances are he will first insult their hair, then their intellect. He uses hair wax. (I made sure to check this with more than one source ok guys, men with similar hairstyles confirmed they use hair wax so the case is closed!!!)

the way jayvik fans are ignoring the entire plot of the show to raise up their ship is so…i thought tumblr was being dramatic when they said yaoi shippers will just ignore any women and plot just to prop up their own desires.

like let’s not be deluded a lot of people emphasized caitvi a little too much—to the point they ignored the story—but that was nothing compared to this. like, i get it, they’re two hotties with a beautiful, complex narrative surrounding them and tying them to their world and each other. but if a romantic or sexual relationship was a part of that, there’s no way in helllll fortiche or the writers would’ve maintained their status as “just” best friends and brothers. (which also ignores how deep and beautiful a bond between best friends, siblings, partners can be)

i know some people might not remember it but i remember in 2021 there was a slight whisper from some people, especially on reddit, who were annoyed that the show focused so much on women’s relationships (sisters, girlfriends, daughters) and not men’s; obviously these people missed the point in an entirely different direction but they’re on the same starting track as the jayvik romance phenomenon. jayce and viktor are as much vander and silco as they are themselves. they are vi and jinx. they are brothers by bond, not by blood (though eventually they are by the blood they spill). they are the third telling of this all important story between siblings, the third outcome. vander and silco could not handle what they wrought and eventually killed each other. vi and jinx could not handle what they had done and had to separate themselves completely lest they be stuck in a constant drowning battle. jayce and viktor couldn’t fix what they had done and thus had to work together to destroy it, as they had to cause it. notably: these latter two outcomes reflect the overall trajectory of the show. vander and silco (united by ideals) could not forgive themselves or each other, even for their goal to save the world. jinx and vi (united by blood) and jayce and viktor (united by discovery) learned from themselves, from each other, that they have to forgive in order to do what’s ultimately needed.

also—something i’ve seen NOBODY mention is Skye. Skye is honestly so important to viktor’s arc and nobody seems to remember or care. she has been accused of being one of arcane’s few flaws, being a victim of “fridging.” in some ways, this is absolutely true. she was just a random female character introduced to make viktor feel bad—but that’s kind of the point. viktor’s newfound hatred (end of s1) of the hex core comes because he realizes that his arrogance and desperation have lead him to kill someone he never got to know on a deeper level (indicated by him learning more about her from her diagrams than he has the whole time). he is furious that he let that happen, that it took an innocent life to be lost forever just to spur him to realize the error of his ways. it why he wanted to be left to die naturally. her inclusion in the brief time where viktor was “ascended” but not yet gloriously evolved, was some of the points at which viktor seemed happiest. we didn’t get to see much of them—which is sad—but their constant interactions and her looming presence whenever he was shown in his astral state confirmed how much he regrets losing her. this does NOT mean they are a romantic item, though to some it may, but it does mean that viktor’s care and character growth/change for others is being unfairly sidestepped in favor of a ship. she even goes so far to say that “no, you won’t” when he says he’ll miss their talks—implying either that she was the first to acknowledge that he was not going to be the viktor she knew, or that she knew that the same arrogance in him now was in him when she was alive (and that he cared about nothing but himself).

this is not even to mention that this also completely sidelined Mel, who does eventually move on due to reasons outside either her or jayce’s control, was still his lover and confidant for a long time. her arc informs his as does he, hers. her growth into her powers while he shies away from unknown magic is a reflection of their season 1 selves, where jayce embraces his newfound inventiveness and influence while she fears her what she knows her mother will do. mel being routinely ignored is due in no small part, im sure, by misogyny and racism—but she is just as much a main character as they are (game notwithstanding).

now i’m not saying this to be a jayvik hater. myself? i love caitvi, probably more than i should have above base appreciation of their worth to the narrative, so i get it. this doesn’t mean i think jayvik is bad inherently—but lofting it above all else is annoying. the romances of arcane are sooo beautiful and complex but they’re only a part of what the story is trying to tell you, so a manufactured relationship that supersedes all is counterintuitive.

Seeing side by side Viktor from S1 and Viktor from S2 is so jarring. Like, he was so passionate about everything, and then after the hexcore, that passion was just gone.

Honestly, just the whole progression of Viktor's character is so interesting to me, from a random kid in the undercity, to a revolutionary scientist, to the robot antichrist, then back to just a man. Love that guy

can somebody please tell me why all of the art I see of Viktor is so cohesive? Loads of other characters vary widely in how artists describe them but everyone seems to agree on what Viktor is like. There's not even like, canon artwork of him, is there??
