The Billboard Consolation Prizes: HSACT Edition

It's that time again! Let's honor those album covers that didn't win the ultimate prize of Hottest Shot by giving them the next-best thing: a square image I edited on Canva. Without further ado, let's hand out those awards!

Let's start with the "Stop, It's Already Dead" Award! Like before, this one goes out to the absolute most brutal loss in the tournament. Only at BHT Headquarters can you win by losing! Our winner is:

Love's Forever Changes! An amazing album--and a fantastic cover--but it was decidedly not hot enough to advance to Round Three, as it received only 4.9% of the votes, getting demolished by Donna Summer's Four Seasons of Love.

Next is an award that carries over from the first two big tournaments--the "What? Why??" Award! This award goes to the most bizarre interpretation of a sexy album cover. While it was admittedly self-selected, I don't think many can argue that the winner is deserving:

Congratulations to King Crimson's debut album! The talented Barry Godber would probably be wildly confused by its presence here, but hopefully a little tickled to see it in the running.

Next is The Artist Assassin Award! This one goes to the album cover that knocked out the most album covers from one other artist. The only one, it seems, that fit the bill was:

Momoe Yamaguchi's Dramatic! This cover took out both Carole King albums in Rounds One and Two, but was ultimately bested by semifinalist David Bowie.

Up next: The Failure to Launch Award. This award goes to the artist with the most nominees that all went down in Round One. The Failure to Launch Award actually had stiff competition this tournament, with three artists losing 3/3 of their nominees in the first round (three 3's, there's something to that, right?) To break the tie, I granted the award to the band that had the most submissions in the original form. As a HUGE fan of this band, this one hurts a little, but the winner is...

*sigh* The Beatles. I guess Paul McCartney's bare feet weren't enough to save them this time. (For those curious, the other two artists who lost all three of their submissions were Pink Floyd and Deep Purple.)

Let's move on t

Let's move on to The Spanish Inquisition Award! This one was voted on by you, the readers, and it goes to the album cover that nobody expected to go as far as it did. The winner here is:

The Man Who Sold the World! Gotta say, I agree with this one, but mainly because I didn't think this would be the Bowie album to do well. Either way, it seems that when you're face to face with The Man Who Sold the World, you're probably gonna lose.

Next is the Popular Kid Award! This one went to the album cover with the most nominations in the original submissions. The winner this time is:

Queen's Sheer Heart Attack with five nominations! Ultimately, it didn't do quite as well as the submissions would have me believe, since Down to Eartha killed it in Round Three.

Now, normally this is around the part where we announce the Robbed Icon Award, which is user-voted, but here's the thing...literally every single voter gave a different answer as to which album was the most robbed! So the real robbed icon is me--robbed of one result.

Finally, we have the Not Just a Pretty Cover Award. This one goes to the album cover that is best, not necessarily the hottest of the bunch. We ended up having a tie between two album covers, so I went to my Tiebreaker Council (my family.) They unanimously selected as the winner:

The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars! Indeed, it's an iconic album cover (so much that I had to search the streets of London at night to find the exact spot where this photo was taken--and there are at least a couple of Ziggy Stardust-themed cafes nearby now.) But if you think the cover is great, you should hear the album!

So here's a lil an I'm working on! It's a crossover between hesitant alien, Ziggy stardust (David Bowie), crybaby (Melanie Martinez) (character has been removed) and demolition widow, my killjoys persona!

UPDATE-IMPORTANT: unfortunately due to rising controversy with melanie i have chosen to remove crybaby from this au!!

I have more detailed info posts for each character that r in the works, this is just an intro for the au!

So basically it's not an exact or professional storyline but here's the basics;

Plot: they all become friends and explore going to earth, making music, and being sillys! (And a possible killjoys au crossover for shits and giggles 👅)

Au info: in this au Gerard is named hesitant (Ik it sound weird but trust the process ok, I have more stuff coming out soon 😿), and is the same species as widow. VERY IMPORTANT: i DO make altercations to world history in this au, why? For the sake of a British accent, am I implying it is true or preaching it to be believed unironically? ABSOLUTELY NOT‼️‼️*said altercations will be talked abt in future posts covering (edit: nvm I let go of this idea 💀)

species/origin info: hes and demo r the same species and come from Jupiter, Ziggy is from mars (duh), crybaby is from Venus (also duh), and lola is from Pluto (pretend it's still a planet ok, JUSTICE FOR PLUTO 😿✊)

I'm still deciding if I should have lola speak an alien language, but other than that everyone else has decently understandable ways of tongue :)

Pronouns: hesitant- he/it/its, lola - they/them (canon), Ziggy stardust - they/xem, crybaby - she/they (Mel's actual prns so semi canon!), demolition widow - she/they/he (my actual prns bc ✨alter ego✨)

Some aliens, lola for example, can shapeshift

Alien species can range from appearing almost entirely humanoid, to being completely extra terrestrial! (For example Ziggy and Lola)

due to advanced planetary (no dd pun intended) technology, aliens traveling to and from different planets is almost like driving a couple blocks!
