The Kailasa temple in Maharashtra India is a rock cut temple (one of many) and this one in particular is carved out of one single rockspace. It is in fact the largest rock cut (a whole Indian style) one out of the thirty-four in Ellora Caves -Just the grandeur, skill, and size of all this is awing.
Peak of Indian rock cut architecture.

Abuna Yemata Guh: Uncovering Ancient Ethiopian Wonders - Pan African Central Core

Legend has it that Abuna Yemata Guh was carved into the rock in the sixth century, a labor of love dedicated to Abuna Yemata (or Abba Yem’ata), one of the revered Nine Saints. This fabled origin lends an air of mystique to the site, amplifying its allure as a destination of both spiritual significance and historical intrigue.

See that big red rock formation? Well, the owners decided to attach their home to it. This is The Rock House (how original) and it's a stucco home built into the side of this monolith (the listing's word). Built in 2000 in Larkspur, CO, the 2bd, 2ba, 2,432sqft home is for sale for an even $1m.
They attached the house to it, but it's also part of the interior.
As soon as you walk in, you see the rock. The house is simply built around it. The architecture is very interesting. Look at all the stairs and levels and boxes. There's also a beautiful floor.
Look at how the wall paint seamlessly matches the rock.
Whoever designed it was very creative. I like all of these shapes and planters.
Beautiful windows and door going out to a deck.
There's a small terrace that leads down to this larger deck.
Then here they put in a regular, but still architecturally interesting, living room.
You can still see the rock, and this open area includes the spacious kitchen.
Very earthy tones tying in the terra cotta with greens. Love the green cabinets.
Nice airy kitchen with great views. The way it's situated doesn't allow the rock to block the view.
The rock actually looks like it's meant to be part of the wall.
The primary bedroom is located in a large loft with a fireplace and room to sit.
It has a very stylish ensuite.
And, around here, the laundry room is conveniently hidden.
And, here's an office tucked in the corner.
Across the way, there's the lovely 2nd bedroom.
It also has a stylish ensuite.
As well as its own office. I actually like this office better.
Here's another deck between the house and the rock. The outdoor area has to center around the house, b/c while the land is beautiful, the terrain is rocky.
The rocky and uneven land would be costly to develop, but it would also ruin the natural beauty.
There's a path to a shed and a large hot tub.
The drone shot shows how the muti-level decks fit in.
The lot is .86acre.

i wanted to finish this before artfight but it ended up being a bit late xD no matter um, anyway i wanted to at least have Something to visualise a bit of Ehrumnen, the bäckahäst town that selma lives in and krihn and rauhk are from.
This just depicts a little scene of rauhk visiting his Secret Bf's eating stone booth. gaerneh (said bf) is a stone-smith, and also not actually from Ehrumnen; he's actually a "sea-goat" from the sea-goat town Cahrimneh. he's in Ehrumnen because of the fact that he's technically a bit of an apprentice and doing his apprenticeship with a ehrumnen stone-smith, because he wanted to specialise in smithing stones for both bäckahästar and sea-goats. both species use them to control buoyancy underwater, but due to their size disparity they usually need stones of different sizes.
stone-smiths will polish stones to be rounded, more comfortable for swallowing, and also often carve them for artistic and/or religious reasons. certain symbols carved into a stone can be seen a bit as a "blessing" to carry with you physically, and can also make a thoughtful gift for the same reason :)
#worldbuilding#spec evo#spec bio#speculative biology#speculative evolution#fantasy#speculative fantasy#pareidolia tag#pareidolia lore#realising i should maybe make a specific tag for that...#oc: gaerneh#oc: rauk#oc: klint#oc: selma#oc: eernah#As u can see i have sortaa changed the living sitsch of bckahästar#less solitary... couldnt resist. also couldnt get little rock towns out of my head#“stonestacking” has historically been a very old technology for bäckahästar so most of their architecture depends on it#i need to like. actually draw more of the nonhuman locations so that. i know what it look like LOL

Ruins of the ancient city of Mira
The remains of the ancient Lycian city of Mira lie at a distance of about 3 km from Turkish Demre. The city was founded in the IV century BC and already in the III century BC it became a significant cultural and religious center of Lycia. The city retained great influence and strength for more than one century, but the flood that occurred in the 7th century A.D. radically changed this. Mira lost access to the sea and remained a religious center.
Today, there is not much left of the city of Mira itself, but there is an open-air museum on the territory, where you can still see a number of sights from antiquity. The amphitheater, acropolis and sarcophagi are the best preserved.
The Lycian culture is also unique for its rock burials – the local tombs and sarcophagi in the rock massifs are considered the best preserved to this day. Despite the fact that the inscriptions that have survived on the walls of the tombs of the city of the dead are in good condition and quite readable, many of them have not yet been deciphered.
The Lycians had their own rather interesting system of burial. According to their culture and worldview, the deceased should be buried as close to the sun as possible.
Next to the tombs there is another significant and interesting structure – a large-scale Greco–Roman amphitheater, which was erected in the IV century A.D. The structure impresses with its scale - it is designed for 10 thousand spectators. Gladiatorial fights took place here, emperors performed and Christian saints preached. To this day, the amphitheater retains excellent acoustics.

Furnishing a home in country style may be done inexpensively, with secondhand furniture purchased at tag sales. The fact that this bedroom's furnishings don't match exactly only adds to its charm. The sunny color scheme brightens a dark room and mixes yellow pastels the way a quilt might.

Emerging from a week-long bout of migraine with a new spiral Piranesi staircase, the tide is coming. Also birds. And I know what I'd like to carve from ammonite - satyr's head, with horns following the spiral.
