romance as a subplot is SOOOOO GOODDDDD because 98% of the time it's an intense slowburn that develops over several chapters. the story focuses on the plot or character development more but somehow it makes the romance SO MUCH BETTER!!! idk how to explain it it's just so good...like when an author's focus is more on characters and plot it gives you as the reader a deeper connection to the characters which makes the romantic/platonic aspect so much better

I’ve seen Twisters a couple of times now and something that isn’t being talked about enough is the way Tyler looks at Kate.
The best scene for this example (I can’t find a gif) is when they’re at the lunch with her mom and he tells Kate to keep her clothes on and she stands up.
He looks at her like she hung the fucking moon.
And I fucking LOVE IT.
How he comes to her and gives her the pizza, how he WAITS FOR HER TO OPEN THE DOOR AGAIN. How he talks with her at the rodeo and they work together to get people to safety. How he covers her from the car during the tornado. How he goes and finds her after it and he looks up at her bedroom window the day he leaves. How he brings her into the Tornado Wrangler Family and she’s herself again.
And THAT PICTURE SCENE. Oh my god- I’m melting. At first I thought he was the one taking it but when he was stood to the side watching and asked for a copy….god I love them.
I can imagine Kate finding that picture one day - maybe inside his cowboy hat, maybe somewhere in his truck so he can always see her when she’s not with him - and Tyler getting all smitten and blushing as she teases him relentlessly.
There might not have been a kiss scene but seeing the bts helps heal that small hole. But either way, Tyler and Kate’s foundation and growth of relationship is one of the BEST ever! And with the extra scenes after it ends, helps solidify the happiness and exterminate the fear that their story is left so open it might not exist after the movie.
But it does. It does exist.
This man DRILLED his truck into the ground outside to go after her. (Which is Iconic, by the way.)
That man fell in love at first sight, even if he didn’t fully know it yet. The minute he saw her, his eyes never left her. And I loved every second of their rivalry (and the way it hops between them both explaining a twister) and friendship and relationship.
This movie will forever be one of my top favourites.
Whether you like disaster movies, with a sub-plot of romance and comedy or not— please. Everyone. Go and watch this movie. Even if it is just to see the chemistry between these two characters.

Honestly, I love jinmao and everything BUT I hate when people think apothecary diaries’ main plot is romance because if you think that then you’re basically missing the main point of it. Romance is just the side plot. The main plots are mystery, politics, history, etc etc.

(updated on 6/15/25)
Hello, and welcome to my writing blog! Here you’ll find the occasional doodle about my characters, a bunch of writing posts that I keep reblogging and a bunch of ask games!
Note that Of Potions and Blades (OPB) is still in its first draft stage! By following, you're supporting the book on its journey to being on the shelves!
🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡
Tumblr media
In the core country of the prosperous Bellareave's Alliance, in a world built on manipulation magic, 15-year-old Berenice Heldreth was forced into the role of Queen of Lorena while still grieving the loss of her sister and nephew.  She loses everything after an assassination attempt leads to a tragedy, forcing her out of Lorena and into a ragtag group of teens, all who had to turn away from the lives they were forced into.  As three powers fight to rule Lorena, Berenice and her only allies travel the five total Bellareave countries to make an impossible potion to take back Lorena and subsequently save the rest of the Alliance and everyone living in it. The question slowly transforms from whether they can take back Lorena, but whether or not they can make it out alive.
Tumblr media
Grief/mourning - The characters will have to cope with plenty of grief at the beginning of the story and cope with more and more as the story progresses due to tragedies that happen. The characters rely on each other to cope with these losses.
Found family
(Moderately implied) queer main characters
A lot of action and adventure

(Interested? Read on!)
Tumblr media
Our first member's Berenice (the main character, 15 for a few chapters - 17 years old). Kinda angry at first but is usually the one who keeps the group together. She’s altruistic, sensitive, expressive and extroverted. She can manipulate lightning.
Next one is Enzo (14 - 15 years old). He's the Cinnamon Roll and the best fighter. He's the optimist of the team, but after *something* bad happened, he became more subdued and down to earth. He acts naive but is also energetic and caring. Best friends with Grigori.
Next is Marigold (16 - 17 years old). She has trajectory manipulation (for example, she can change the direction of an arrow) and is very passionate about things she cares about. She gets into fights pretty easily. Sarcastic but caring, holds grudges pretty easily, passionate and rebellious, at least visually. Hard on the outside and soft on the inside. Cousins with Isolde.
Next, we have Grigori (15 - 16 years old). He's quiet and selectively mute. Arguably went through the most before he met the others. He mediates between Marigold and whoever she's arguing with (likely Isolde) and is basically the result of what would happen if Berenice's goals weren't achieved. Smart, analytical, respectful, reserved, introverted but not shy, and has self-esteem issues. Best friends with Enzo.
Finally, we have Isolde (14 - 15 years old). She's the motherly one on the team, but like Enzo, she got into a situation that made her more down to earth. Cares about all of them very deeply and is willing to put her own motivations aside to help the others. Basically the backup optimist if Enzo isn't there lol. Caring but can be smug, stubborn to no end, motherly, and doesn’t give up easily. Cousins with Marigold.

Tumblr media
Fullmetal Alchemist (specifically the Brotherhood version; it inspired the main theme of the book along with many other things)
Avatar: The Last Airbender (the base of the book that the other shows built off of. The most obvious aspect is the traveling the core characters embark on.)
The Owl House (planning to incorporate the found family dynamics and some of the relationship dynamics. I also want to be able to replicate the charm of the show.)
Arcane: League of Legends (it mainly inspired the darkness in part 3 of the book.)
Omori (most of the similarities are coincidental. It helps me with the mental health aspect of the book--the inspiration is very light, though.)
🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡🗡

Forever world
(This is based on a Minecraft roleplay created by me and my two friends for ourselves. I've decided to write it as a full length story and I'm going to upload the chapters here!) Word count- 3,080 punctuation by @cesamessa cause I suck T_T ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When light fades and darkness emerges, is there still light even if it cant be seen?
This is one of life's many unanswered questions. One of far too many, but I like to think the world isn't so black and white; that there's a larger gray line than people wish to see.
Sometimes though, the doubt of what makes someone good or evil isn't always determined by who they are now, but who they find themselves becoming despite it all. If we mulled over this, I doubt there'd ever be a real answer. Something concrete that the whole world can agree on can't ever exist, but in this world where good and evil can be as simple as how your species is perceived, or the first impression you get of someone, can action be the only definer?
Humans, however, I've never had an opinion on. They're so versatile and different from one another, yet so lacking in the current age, where creatures from dragons to fairies, and demons to goblins roam.
So what makes these three girls so important?
"The sheep aren't going to lead themselves into the barn!" Cesa yelled as she tried and failed to keep the chickens from running out of their coop.
"Well it's not my fault these goats are all trying to jump me at once!" Iesha shouted back frustrated with the current goat biting her ankles.
The girls went back and forth, trying to get the new animals into their pens while Angel softly fed the horses she had gathered in the barn with hay, apples, and the occasional sugar cube. It was a simple life the girls lead. They took care of their farm, their pets, and each other. For the longest time, each of them couldn't remember what life was like with out the others, and liked it that way. Spending time with each other baking, playing, and even building the house they live in together; none of it felt like chore or a hassle. Just living a life they cherished, plain and simple but full of heart.
The area in which they made their home was rather empty, with there only being a small village behind some large dirt hills. They were friendly with the village, usually trading goods back and forth. It was quiet and kind there. Grass and dirt hills were everywhere, surrounded by a labyrinth of rivers and never ending forests. Their house was in the centre of all the geographical chaos. Though, house was a loose term at first sight. A large oak tree surrounded by a glass dome with three doors at the front, one orange in color, decorated with vines and mushrooms. The second was purple with flowers dancing on the wood in their elegant spiceberry color, and the third, a bright pink that embodied the vines and flowers that decorated it.
Colorful pastel wood made up the foundation layer of the dome before the glass engulfed the tall tree at the center. Dogs, cats, and a few unusual pets sat below the towering branches and a staircase that hid behind the tree led underground. This is where the girls lived, their gorgeous outer shell with the dome covered the cozy inside that was hidden below.
An open kitchen filled with all the equipment they could need was made with clay from their own hands, and a small living space opposite with a comfy sofa facing the blazing fireplace. A large record player sat in the left corner, with racks of collected vinals, and plant pots filled with flowers. In the right corner a hand made shelf with a book sat on a built in lectern, where they'd list off each of their ideas for building around their area.
Down the thick but short corridor were the bedrooms of the three girls. The left lead to Angel's room with a pink floor and glittery pink celling. She had plushies far as the eye could see surrounding her bed, and a desk off to the side covered in trinkets and a diary. On her wall there were costumes hanging, each made by her hand. The room felt like a haven of cute and soft decorations and creations.
Opposite her room, however, was Iesha's. A black and orange, almost Halloween themed room, with dark wooded furniture and a double bed built into the floor, with four posts and a canopy. A desk sits in the corner, with books, plushies, and a rare flower. Black flowers bloom in the darkness of her room by the door, and her large pet jumping spider laid in quiet sleep in her bed.
The final room was Cesa's. Located at the end of the hall, its steampunk vibe and purple beauty radiated the room. With desks and potions in every corner, her bed at the end was comfy and surrounded by nick knacks. Her room was clustered with items and hobbies. It felt more like play room than a bedroom, one where she proudly displayed her stuff, including the strange skeleton image above her door.
After each cow, sheep, and goat were in their pens, every chicken and cheeky chick back into the coop, and all the horses were settled in the stables, the girls were finally finished. They could now slunk off to their warm beds and sleep off the day's hard work.
Resting their tired muscles and tired brains, sleep came easy to them, and the first day of many came to an end.
Humans work hard to keep their peaceful lives, to be good, kind and keep the monsters away. However, the monsters aren't always the werewolves and zombies lurking in the night, but the darkness lurking in there minds; and if all humans hold this darkness, then what separates the good from the bad? I like to think it's action, but bad deeds can be necessary for survival, protection. So who gets to decide? Us? Them? Or is it just in the moment, the split second decision, that determines it all?
Mornings were a hassle for Iesha, as she would always wake up with a light but annoying headache that felt like a dull throbbing. It was fixable, as all she would need is a warm cup of tea and the pain would disperse not long after, but it was still annoying. Sometimes, when she didn't want to get up and deal with dizziness from getting out of bed, Cesa and Angel would bring her tea when she felt like this. It was never as good as when she made it, but she would never say that. She was grateful they would do this for her anyway, so she would never complain. She didn't want to.
Cesa was different. Although she loved to sleep in, she would always be up first to feed the pets upstairs. Angel would be up not long after, but would spend ten to fifteen minutes sketching and drawing before coming out of her room, where her and Cesa would wait the half an hour it would take Iesha to finally leave hers. They would begin to make breakfast together, and even though they didn't talk much until they began eating, the quality of their food never suffered as they didn't need to communicate what went were and who did what. They just knew.
The objectives of each day would change all the time. Some days, they'd plan, map out build areas, or do something productive. Other days, they'd indulge in their hobbies, and sometimes they'd just want to be lazy. There's a nice balance in their routines, and with the three of them always working together, the job got done. It's never fast. Sometimes a simple project or task will take a whole day of getting off track and mind numbing laughter, but they work well together, and there's never been anything they couldn't do.
Cesa had a soft spot for animals. Well, they all did, but half the reason they had so many pets was do to her seeing an animal or cute creature and just taking it home, and they all just went along, like they knew being cared for by her was one of the most loving experiences a living creature can have. Her constant love and encouragement was a pillar in their friendship. She made the people around her want to do better, to be better, and even when they slipped up, fell back, she always told them they were doing well, because she wanted nothing but the best for the people she loved.
On the surface, Angel was sweet and soft spoken, like a calm breeze when the world just felt like too much, but she was also chaotic and funny. Her sense of humor was unmatched and so out of pocket that it took everyone off guard. The most mundane and boring thing could be happening, but when she started talking in funny voices and bringing up things from her recent fixations, she'd light up the whole area like the sun glowing, and brightened the day with her charm.
And Iesha, while she wasn't the most active of people, usually opting to sit indoors and snack on her newly baked goods, she was creative building plans, weird little scavenger hunts, and slightly disturbing horror stories. She was a chaotic ball of constant ideas. She didn't always have the motivation to see them through, but with how passionate she would become surrounding her new found interests and stories, her rambling on those subjects never failed to have her friends, or anyone who would listen, gripped and hanging onto every word.
The world they lived in was filled with monsters, creatures, and things that lurk in the dark. Things that would not hesitate to see dinner when gazing upon them. But on the other side were majestic, glowing embodiments of radiance and light that over-shadowed the mundane and cruel. Magic and beauty were common place, so in a world filled with everything you could want, how much would it take for a human to shine? Compared to a fairy, mermaid, or even the dark elegance of a demon, what could a human offer?
The simple answer is whatever their willing to give. Some humas make deals with demons for power, giving up their souls or even their first born. Others try their hardest to shine, to make it to the top, where the harsh glow of everything bright in the world sits; and some choose to live with out dreams or thoughts of greatness. The people that reside in the small villages, the humans who see no point trying in a world that will never value them, and these three girls? They choose to stay out of trouble. Peace is all they wish for. No glory, or great power, just humble living and a hopefully comfortable end.
That morning, the girls had gone through their usual morning steps. After breakfast, they each retreated to their rooms to ready themselves for the day ahead. Now that their little farm area was finished, they needed a new project. Their stable now housed great stallions, the barn held many sheep, cows, and goats, the cozy coop filled with sleepy chickens, as well as a gorgeous green house with every planted crop you can think of, surrounded by a small orchard of various fruit trees. They felt accomplished with this small set up, and now their new task was to be chosen from the book in the living room.
Iesha, Cesa, and Angel all had their own unique styles and looks. Unfortunately, they all stood at the same height of five foot two, so the top shelf was unreachable to everyone. But Angel had her love of everything cute. Bows, frills, hearts, and flowers; she had long, silky, elbow length hair that was a deep chocolate brown and usually decorated with a bow here and there. Her bright brown eyes shone with flecks of gold and an optimistic glimmer shimmering through out. She had light, almost pale skin with two moles. One above her left eye, and the other just below it, and a couple freckles dotted her face. The dark pastel pink top she wore was made of silk, and sat off her shoulders. Two white butterflies clung to the sides of the shirt's shoulders, and her sleeves reached her wrists. The shirt was tucked into a knee length beige plaid skirt that flowed effortlessly as she walked. A light silver chain wrapped around her waist, while a heart adorned with bright red flowers hung like an ornament for her skirt. She wore cute light pink tennis shoes with frilly white socks that stayed just past her ankles.
Cesa's style was all over the place. She liked colors and cottage core, she had sun kissed skin and eyes that danced with color, a green, blue and sometimes grey whirl pool. Her hair was a mousy brown that sat at her mid back and she had light freckles scattered on her cheeks. She wore a black tank top, with a green-grey knee length jacket over the top. A gold belt was wrapped into the loops of her sage green shorts. She had white ankle socks and dark grey sneakers. The sleeves of her jacket were rolled up to her elbows, and the rest of her arms were adorned with bracelets. An orange one on her right arm with a pumpkin and vines pattern, a pink one underneath that with a Sakura flower and gold glitter, then on her left arm, a red one decorated with a guitar and vinals. These bracelets, she barley ever took off. They were a representation of people she loved, and wished to keep them close at all times.
A dark, almost gothic look was Iesha's go to. Usually wearing the colors black and orange for a Halloween vibe, her bright ginger hair was curly and flowed to her waist. She always wore dark make-up like black lipstick, and sharp black eyeliner, which contrasted her pale, almost ghostly skin tone. Her face was covered in freckles, and her eyes were a dark brown that felt like looking in a pool of melted dark chocolate. Her top was a borderline black tank top with a skull design, and long lace sleeves patterned with roses and vines. Along with matching shorts, with the same lace for the pants. Her chunky heeled boots went under her lace pants, and just above her ankles. The only jewelry she wore was her black hoop earrings, and in her hair, a black butterfly clip. Lastly, the staple of all her outfits, her round, black, rimmed glasses that adorned her face and allowed her to see as her eye sight without them was nothing less than looking at a blurred out of focus picture.
Angel was already looking at the book whilst sat on the off-white sofa when Iesha and Cesa came out, sitting on either side of her. They began to look through their lengthy list of things to build, decorative, functional or full form building.
"With all the farm buildings being done, should we just do something for decoration?" Cesa requested.
"I think I wanna add some pathways and maybe foliage around." Angel added.
"We can make a pathway to the village, 'cause I had an idea for a bridge connecting those two hills at the entrance." Iesha suggested.
"Oh yeah! I've been wanting to add plants around there." Angel said.
"Well, how about that then? We build a bridge and decorate it for the village entrance." Cesa decided, standing up and walking down to the basement.
The basement was completely built by Cesa, and it was a large circle room. The walls were made of wood logs and the floor had an oak and spruce spiral pattern, with a flowing water fall surrounded by glass in the center. Chests lined the walls, filled with all kinds of materials for building. The entire room felt like being inside a giant hollowed out log. It smelt earthy and fresh, with a content cold, but not to a freezing temperature. The girls would sometimes just sit in there when it got too hot. They made their ways down and began trifling through the many chests collecting the necessary wood, fences, lights and railings for the bridge. Angel looked for items to decorate the bridge with and create the pathway, while Cesa focused on stuff for structural integrity, as falling of a rather large hill would not be particularly nice for anybody,
Once their boxes were filled, they carried them up to the main house, where Cesa packed a few lunch items into her bag. A few sandwiches, bottled drinks, and a fruit filled container. They all went upstairs and into the dome, placing the boxes down, and gathering the building tools. Shovels, axes, pickaxes and more, all made from various ores and gems the girls had mined. Packing them into their now heavy bags and saying a quick "see you later" to the multiple pets sat under the tree, they opened the middle door to make their way over to the village.
Once the door was opened, they stopped in their tracks seeing a rather tall, handsome man stood outside, panting as if he just ran there. He looked slightly disheveled; not in a creepy way, but more of a 'he seemed in trouble' way. His shining green eyes were blown wide in a panic, and his fist was raised as if he was about to knock on the door. The girls realised they must of not seen him running over while packing, being completely lost in their tasks at the time. The man lowered his arm and looked at them with what looked like relief before saying,
"Can you help!?"
The peacefulness the girls had surrounded themselves with was now crashing down like a thin pane of glass around them. Their bubble was popping, and now they had to choose if they wished to weather the brewing storm and step on the freshly broken glass, or rebuild their bubble and ignore the desperation in order to keep their peace alive. Was this what separated humans? Those who would bring the hammer down on their normalcy to help someone, and those who would ignore the cries of another to save themselves? Was self preservation worth more then another's life, and if so, which person is more important? Or are they all the same?

Writing prompt/character dynamic/plot thing but I LOVE it when you have the Big Main Plot and the MC and their love intrest just, sometimes literally, gets rammed by Side Quest that comes out of nowhere. This is when the Side Quest physically/geographically separates these two from the rest of the Team and they have to spend days/weeks navigating through Side Quest trying to get back to the Main Plot to defeat Big Villain. And these two are on their own for days on end with only each other for company so they slowly get to know each other better, their dynamic gets more fleshed out, and there's real Trust built through life threatening fights where they only have each other to rely on. Bonus points if the love intrest is a former enemy and they're still on the tentative allies part of enemies to friends to lovers. And you can especially see how different their dynamic is when they finally reunite with the Team and it's so clear how different they are before and after Side Quest. Side Quest isn't the part where they get together but it's one of the main moments in the plot where they spend a considerable amount of time together alone and their dynamic gets time to actually explore and grow and they become friends.

Would you read this as a book based on the first several paragraphs of a shitty first draft???
Four years of a strict training regimen, a diet fit for a grown knight, and daily farming chores had turned Idabel Black into a bit of a rebel. Once the sun had set behind the farm on top of the hill, and her time with her uncle and her feathersword in the dirt pit were through, she was usually allowed to do whatever she liked. She spent most of this time beating up her friends in the village and playing crude pranks on the nobles that sometimes rode through town, but one crisp dusk in late spring, shortly after her tenth birthday, she decided she was bored. And that just wouldn’t do.
“You’ve got to be barking mad, Ida.” Olyver’s voice squeaked from beneath his mop of gnarly brown hair. He was still clutching his stomach from the blow she’d surprised him with upon greeting. His older brother Ben, both chuckled and winced, afraid that if he laughed too hard she’d seek out his belly with her fist too.
“If you won’t come with me, I’m going on my own. And if something happens, your Pa will blame y-” Idabel was throwing everything she had in her verbal assault arsenal to convince her friends to not only agree, but encourage her vagrant behavior.
“Don’t start with that nonsense. You know Pa would have our hind end if he knew we followed you out into the Beachwood.” Ben interrupted her, unable to meet her eye but still- the words came out firm.
“What, are you scared a doe will stomp you to death? There’s nothing to be afraid of out there.” She motioned towards the cobble road out of the village, the very same that winded up the hill to her family’s farm, but she wasn’t pointing to that, she was pointing at the mass of swarming trees that surrounded the northern side of the hill. Her muscles ached as she did, but she’d already learned to ignore it. The pain was a good thing, her uncle had told her. It meant she was getting stronger. The muscles break and then they repair, stronger than they were before.
“The answer is no. I’m not going, and neither is Olyver.” He kicked pebbles with his bare feet, dirty and scraped from running around the market stalls. It infuriated Idabel that he wouldn’t even look at her, wouldn’t even consider having some true fun for once. She bunched up her fists, seething.
“You really won’t go with me?” She gritted through clenched teeth. She was ready to blow.
“I’ll tell you what,” Olyver had finally found his breath, and found himself standing toe to toe with the little girl made of hellfire. “You make it one whole night out there on your own, I’ll steal you a cake.”
She crossed her arms, considering his offer, chewing on the insides of her mouth. While little Olyver seemed to be writhing beneath her glare, a team of dirty young men dressed in coveralls had begun silently lighting the lanterns along the streets, setting the village square aglow in the looming blackness. They came and they went while Idabel played with the power in her hands, thinking, strategizing, deciding. A cool breeze blew in from the north, settling the fire growing in her chest.
“Chocolate?” She asked sheepishly.
“From Mum’s shop. You’re lucky too, she’s just had a shipment in from across the sea.” Ben glanced between the two, nervous, and almost impressed that Olyver had figured out her one weakness on his own. And that it had worked.
“Fine. If I get eaten by wolves, you can feed that cake to my Uncle’s pigs.”
