Komedie Brute

Do you ever wish there were MORE Komedie Brute characters? I mean, Commedia Dell'Arte has an entire cast of characters. Welp, I've got you covered. Since I'm writing a Masquerade themed opening gala in a story, I sat down and invented more Komedie Brute characters. Here ya go. Feel free to steal for your stories as desired.

Canon Komedie Brute Characters:

Mister Crimson is a character dressed in red and black, with a mask. When he appears on the stage, the audience calls out, "Mother, Father, pay the rent!" To which he responds, "I can't, my dear, the money's spent!" and throws out coins into the audience. These coins are usually fake, but occasionally genuine money.

The Scarab Queen is a character dressed in black and shimmering green, similar to the carapace of a beetle. She covers her face with a gilded crown-like mask. The audience throws flowers at the Scarab Queen.

The Madman is a character dressed in a grotesque orange costume, and a goggle-eyed mask with a hooked beak. The audience hisses at the Madman when he appears on stage.

The Lost Bride is a character dressed in blue with a silk cape. She covers her face with a matching veil and wears a crown of flowers.

The Imp is a character dressed in a high-necked gray tunic, and a horned mask with bulbous staring eyes.

My additions:

The Pigeon is a hapless fool, meant to be the butt of jokes, easily taken advantage of. Wears a mask with a short bird beak, usually in gray, green and purple, and plain clothes. The Pigeon is often seen begging for Mister Crimson to be kind, or to let him out of a debt. It is unknown, and eternally debated, if the term for the gamblers in the Barrel as ‘pigeons’ came before or after the Komedie Brute character.

The Tart is meant to mimic the brothel workers. Usually depicted as female, scantily clad in faux silks, with an oval full face mask painted with exaggerated makeup. Rich merchers wives will play at being The Tart in the Barrel for a thrill, doing things they can’t in the Geldstraat.

The Captain is a caricature of the Stadwatch. The mask is usually a mustached older man, with a dark purple cape or suit adorned in gold trim. The character usually carries a baton, and is often seen chasing other characters and beating upon them with the baton.

The Young Lovers are a pair of characters. The masks are full oval faces, done up to look young, with heart shaped pink blush marks on the cheeks. They’re often jeweled with paste gems. Couples will rent The Young Lovers masks to go about the Barrel. On Sankt Emerens feast day, single people will wear The Young Lovers masks in order to seek out a partner to have a tryst with. Some say The Lost Bride is the older version of the female Young Lover, once her partner has died or disappeared.

i Am once again asking for fics where Kaz Brekker undergoes physical touch torture where it's not glamorousized PTSD, I wanna see him convulsing and vomiting and crying. You know what I think would be neat? If ALL of the crowd came to rescue him, and ALL of the crows saw his reaction. And they all helped, Matthias included, and they all leave with a deeper understanding of eachother

I want to write a rugby fic the question is what fandom and pairing. I have talked about rugby and six of crows before but I have never thought about writing for grishaverse before. I have been on a Sonic kick but who knows how long that will last. I have written mostly hazbin hotel and descendants fics but I don't need another one. I could do stranger things and I could fit both the freshman and senior groups. Or I could write for something else the possibilities are endless.

Many Sentence Monday

Ever write a story with some OC's that you just utterly fall in love with? That's Ryo and Omar for me right now. I love these two damaged goofballs SO FUCKING MUCH. I cannot wait to share the whole of this story. But for today, you get a snippet.

Een Taal Aanleren (Language Lessons) is a spin off from Kanej Wensen, getting to know two more of the Dregs, Ryo and Omar. Just before this snippet that happens on the front stairs of the Slat, Ryo has confronted Omar about his romantic attractions.

“How long have you known?” He asked because even he himself wasn’t sure. From the moment Omar had seen him fighting for his life, he’d thought Ryo was attractive. When Brekker had essentially assigned him babysitting duty for the new recruit, he hadn’t minded the excuse to watch over him. Weeks of spending time together, working shifts, language lessons, drinking together after hours… It was a bit of a blur for Omar as to exactly when he’d started fantasizing about kissing Ryo. About how it might feel to run his hands over the other man’s creamy skin, or through his long, straight black hair. What it would be like to have those lustrous amber eyes focused on him with passion. What kinds of sounds he might make during sex. Whether he liked to cuddle afterwards. If he might want something more. Like a romantic relationship.

Ryo stopped, one stair up, and twirled gracefully. He pinned Omar to the spot directly in front of him with one raised eyebrow. “Ever since the night you saved me.”

It was the most absolute confidence Omar had ever heard Ryo speak Kerch with. As if there were no doubts in his mind about the timing. “I… uh…” He ran a hand up the back of his neck, utterly at a loss. Okay, yeah, maybe I am an idiot. Omar looked down, trying to find words or maybe even courage.

“Am I wrong?” That came with just a tad less confidence. And some curiosity. 

“I… I don’t think you are. I think I might be a shǎ, though.”

“Omar?”

“Yeah?” He still hadn’t picked his head up, staring a hole into the stair besides Ryo’s feet instead. 

“I have wanted since that night… to do this…”

Ryo’s hand came up, his fingers brushing like a whisper up Omar’s chin, lifting his head with the barest pressure. As the other man planted a feather light kiss on his lips, Omar froze. Then his toes curled in his boots, his brain shouted with glee, and he melted. He all but lunged forward to deepen the kiss. All coherent thoughts fled, driven forth by starvation. It had been entirely too long since he’d received affection like this. A kiss like this. Since he’d entertained anything besides his doomed crush, and quick flings just to get sex. He found his hands were now on either side of Ryo’s waist, with no recollection of putting them there. All Omar wanted was more. More of Ryo’s firm lips on his. Ryo’s clever tongue in his mouth. More of Ryo’s skin under his fingertips. Santos, he’s a good kisser. The other man’s hand moved to the nape of Omar’s neck, and their continued kiss had every last bit of his attention.

Which would be why Anika got the drop on them. “You two might want to take that inside. I could have robbed both of you blind.”

Grinning like a fool, Ryo pulled back first, while Omar blinked, dropped his hands, and felt his face go hot. “I knew you were there, boss,” the Shu man asserted.

“Yeah, sure, Ryo. You’re lucky it wasn’t Brekker who caught you. Get yer asses to a fucking room or something, Saints alive.”

Omar managed, “Sure, boss.” Anika snickered as she brushed by them to head inside the Slat. The blond lieutenant and Pim shared one of the nicest rooms on the second floor. The fact that she’d caught them making out wasn’t nearly as embarrassing as the part where Omar hadn’t noticed someone approaching from behind. It was dangerous to let your guard down like that in the Barrel. Even in your own turf, on the stairs to your gang’s main house. If it had been Brekker who’d come up behind them, he would have either robbed them or smacked them with his cane. Or both. “We… we ought to go inside…”

Slyly, Ryo ran his hand down Omar's neck to grab the lapel of his waistcoat. “Your room or mine?” 

Eyes wide, Omar stammered, “I… uh… My bed’s bigger.”

The smile that answered him was kin to the panther that had stalked him before. It had pounced now, happy with its captured prey. “The deal is done.”

“Um. It’s usually ‘the deal is the deal’.”

“That too.” 

Santos, what have I gotten myself into? Omar thought as he followed the confidant and graceful Shu man into the Slat, and towards whatever was about to happen.

there’s only a very small amount of people this fic would appeal to so idk when i will write it mostly bc it’d take a lot of research work and energy and part of me doesn’t know if i wanna do all that just for like 5 people to read it, but basically i have Shadow and Bone the Netflix Show But If It Wasn’t Ass™️ thumping around in my brain like clothes in the dryer. i would format it as a script - which again will make less people find it appealing (probably) - and just very slowly introduce the crows. like people who hadn’t read the books would just think “oh neat some world building of the other countries in the world” and then bam backstory of six of crows starts to happen and all these “background characters” suddenly start to matter to the plot and meet and then before you know it alina and mal are living happily together and three out of six crows are in the dregs and it’s just beautiful and done right and inej doesn’t randomly have a brother and her trauma isn’t ignored and we like deep dive into the druskelle and how their teachings effect not only matthias but some of his friends and introduce hanne early to show Fjerdan ideology effecting women too and i just have so many thoughts and ways it could’ve been great but i won’t put them all here but oh my god it could’ve been so beautiful and they ruined it by rushing it all and i’m just so mad abt it still

Does anyone else, when reading laugh too much at some characters being dramatic but then on the next page a character does and u just burst into an uncontrollable waterfall of tears that lasts forever until u get over the book ( which never happens)

::whistling in over 300,000 published words on A03.:: I can't seem to write short stuff... even my "I'mma write a short smut" end up over 11,000 words. I have SO many words in WIP's right now too. I have surpassed the source material for my fan fics by a large margin. Lalalala.

When reading fanfic keep in mind that for professional literature: 

Short story: under 7,500

Novelette: between 7,500 and 17,500

Novella: between 17,500 and 40,000

Novel: over 40,000

Fics over 40k are literally a novel written and shared for free.  If you have written a 40k+ fic, you have literally written a novel.

rereading six of crows at seventeen is such a strange experience. like on one hand i relate to these characters, but on the other they’re out here committing intense crimes and pulling off impossible heists while i’m writing fan fiction in my room and struggling to get through the school year with my sanity intact. like.
