getting real tired of people who are shitting on “found family” more generally as a narrative concept and specifically named familial dynamics in fan interpretation of characters in particular because it all seems to be getting painted with a really wide and really homogenous brush. “we need to take found family away from people because they think it all has to be In Nuclear Family Terms and do you know friendship exists and you don’t have to call these characters siblings to legitimize their relationship while making it clear you Don’t Ship Them Ew Gross and THEN you sneer at people who Do ship them” cool cool that is a lot of really intense characterization and assigning of motive to other people en bloc!

like sure there’s some meaningful critique to be found in a broad trend to label every single relationship directly and specifically with terms that have very specific contexts and roles but im waiting to be told when anyone IS by the standards of people making and reblogging these very sweepingly generalized posts allowed to call a relationship parental or whatever. is that Ever allowed. who is handing out the permits. sometimes a specific term for a relationship isn’t actually about wanting an excuse to sneer about your ship (and frankly there’s a lot of projection going on there imo from people who are actively sneering about other people’s interpretation of a relationship!) and it’s because there are very specific contexts and details about a dynamic that makes exploring it from the lens of siblings or whatever very rich and compelling and interesting because words mean things and assuming everyone is just being reductive and demanding conformity to a nuclear family is, ironically, really reductive.

so like. cool it. stop being really fucking mean about people having an interpretation of a dynamic you personally don’t like or makes you feel a little weird or uncomfy because you ship them.

I think its really funny how people got mad at the story of 28 years later and are calling it disappointing, probably because it didn't have much to do with war and killing zombies and was overall a much more contained story about a kid and his dying mother, which is funny considering the first movie in the series was a fairly contained story about a group of survivors trying to find peace in the apocalypse, 28 days is known for its eerie, quiet shots of Jim walking around a completely empty London and the apocalypse "ends" from natural causes by the end of the film, it's only in 28 weeks where themes of war really come in and there's a reason why it's the least popular of the series, it's filled with explosions and huge action set pieces yet the most memorable part of the story is the family drama in the beginning of the movie

It's also funny to me because 28 years itself seems to be saying "why are we trivializing death and celebrating war? why are we teaching young boys to behave violently?" the heavily stylized, flashy zombie killing scenes go away once Spike steps out on his own, the movie emphasizes the teachings of Spike's dad and the town as being wrong so he chooses to go against them, it's only once he goes off on his own that he learns the reality of death, I think the themes of war and violence are gonna make a return in the next two movies as the underlying theme of this trilogy as a whole but for this movie it was important for Spike to learn this lesson about death in a way that wasn't flashy or loud

Ghosts are incredibly difficult to track visually due to their bright colors, glowing, and their invisibility and fast flight. As a result, Danny learned to rely on other ways to track ghosts during fights.

Mainly: ectoplasm frequencies/vibrations.

It’s conceptually similar to how you can determine who someone is by the vibrations of their footsteps. Danny turns his focus away from his sight to his other senses to listen and feel for the shifts in his environment. Specifically through the ambient ectoplasm.

If that doesn’t work, or he’s not sensing anything, he sends out a ‘ping’ via Soulhum [ghostspeak]. Soulhum is a language that relies on core vibrations and ectoplasm to work. So Danny sends out a ping through the air, then listens and waits and feels for any density shifts nearby.

It’s like being able to feel when someone sits down on the couch even if you dont see them because you can feel the weight shift. Or if you’ve ever been on a ropes course, feeling when someone steps on the rope you’re on because it jostle the rope and you can feel the vibrations.

Danny thinks this was a natural course of action to take after the nth time he was blinded in a fight, and the hundredth time Skulker snuck up on him during one of his hunts because Danny’s sense doesn’t work if he knows a ghost is there.

His rogues, however, would beg to differ.

I think Sarek and Amanda would both be accepting of Spock's homosexuality if he made them aware of it, but he'd still not want Kirk around them because they'd make it weird in ways completely unrelated to Spock's partner being a man. Any partner of Spock's would have to deal with the most freak4freak parents in law of all time while Spock silently sits nearby or leaves while everyone's distracted.
