just did 90m of painting work over 3 hours that was (1) mentally demanding (2) that did not pay off. I have nothing concrete to show for it.

today's work was prefaced by 90m of prep last night: looking my long and short term goals, identifying bottlenecks, and designing exercises to widen those bottlenecks (which I executed on today). so if you count that it's 3h of work

interestingly: after today's work, my mind was unusually, legibly split on whether that was a waste of time (prediction: feel bad) or a good use of time (prediction: feel good). and the fact that it felt like a choice – or at least indeterminate in a way I could somewhat influence – suggested to me that finding experimentation (regardless of outcome) worthwhile is a skill?

(in 2021 I stumbled into enjoying the mild-moderate fear of social risk-taking, which led to running a lot of events, which had noticeably positive effects on my social life and popularity. seems like a similar type of meta-skill – something that leads you to find skill development more attractive)

if I may be corny and quote this book review on The Education of Cyrus [the Great]:

that was cool! it wasn't cool to get frustrated and have to stop at one of the stages, but I have concrete ideas on how to tweak the instructions for tomorrow's run. Even if I abandon conscious directed improvement for a year, writing down what did and didn't work will help future me design better experiments / workflows. I have, in fact, built something that'll last

also, I have a spreadsheet where I log three variables and a generated column that uses those variables to spit out a "score for the day". how much I did and how hard it was have a multiplicative effect on that score, and that was pretty hard, so I'm going to get a Gold Star from My Google Sheets Function for having done this

also also, I have the slightest kernel of the desire to paint ("just not like that dear god I'm not doing that again") which I don't think was there before I forced myself to do a hard and unpleasant painting run

how would u recommend a beginner get into blender? Ima 2D art student but want to fill out my portfolio and it looks super fun and cool!

Yay I'm so glad you want to learn Blender!

Since you're studying 2D, you probably have a lot to learn and practice already. So I'll try to answer in a way that could benefit you the most in both practices.

You probably already heard Blender has a tool called "grease pencil" - it's a 3d object, but they also built it so that if you want to do regular 2D illustration or animation, you can do that too.

Learning grease pencil first could be a good way to familiarize yourself with Blender's interface. And because a lot of the toolsets share how they operate (for instance, adding modifiers to the stack is the same no matter if you're using a grease pencil object, curve, or 3D mesh), you can more easily move to different parts of the program later, like poly modeling or sculpting.

From there you can move into tutorials that combine 3D and 2D - or just start with this if you're really excited to learn 3D modeling. Again Kevandram has a really great tutorial for that - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ftBFjGy5z08

Something you'll wanna watch out for with Blender tutorials is the version they're using. If your version of Blender is newer, then maybe a button or menu a tutorial tells you to use might have moved. Or some functionality may have changed. Luckily since Blender is open source, they make all versions available to you here: https://download.blender.org/release/

Once you get more familiar with Blender, jumping between versions is easier. But for the sake of learning, if you find a really great tutorial that's using an older version, you can just use that version. You can have multiple Blender versions installed - right now I have 4.4, 4.1, 4.0, and 2.79. So for instance in Kevandram's Bakery Shop tutorial, he's using Blender 3.0 which you can get here - https://download.blender.org/release/Blender3.0/

If you're not interested in grease pencil, or just want to jump straight to 3d, this is a great beginner modeling tutorial from SouthernShotty - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1CFWDWTamo

It mostly sticks to modeling and then gets into basic material stuff. A simplified order to learn things in 3d would be:

Poly/mesh modeling

Modeling with curves

Adding materials/using the shader editor

Unwrapping 3d objects / learning the UV Editor

Texture painting / Painting texture maps (using that unwrapped map from 4) in Blender or some other program (Krita if you want to paint on the 2d map itself. Procreate if you want to paint directly on the model although that'll require a tablet).

A lot of beginner tutorials will take you through steps 1-3 usually, and maybe throw in some basic animation, camera setup, lighting, and rendering. More intermediate/advanced topics would be rigging, animating rigged models, physics simulations, and geometry nodes.

To bring it back to how this could benefit you the most as a 2d artist - something I see a lot of people do is prototype in 3d, and use that 3d render as a base to paint over. Some people strictly use grey boxes, and some people actually model/texture/light certain things and then render that out in layers to use in their painting program later. You can use as much or as little 3d as you want to help 2d painting.

Those use Blender's cameras and lights, which you'll pick up as you do modeling/texturing tutorials. Later you can get more advanced with those as well as the different rendering engines within Blender.

One Aventio AU (Detective/Mafia AU) for the Counter

ho boi this was a big one, so let's see if it spans a few posts (spoiler, its super long....yay)

this one is supposed to take place in a similar universe I was writing with stellaron hunters and astral express (and that'll be for another thread) but this one is solely aventio/ratiorine/golden ratio because it features both ratio's investigation abilities and the stonehearts! might be a bit outdated (lorewise....?) but it is more detailed so he we go~!

The Entree:

Undercover Mafia Ten Stonehearts sent by the IPC (Internal Pierpoint Cartel ig? i couldn't think of one but IPPC kinda doesn't work so Pierpoint it is) to start expanding territory into a unknown town. Unbeknownst to the stonehearts, the ten head honchos of the IPC mafia and always sent on every groundbreaking mission to spread the IPC's influence, the town they've decided to lay roots into underground is very close to the Intelligensia's most renowned detective - Dr. Veritas Ratio, code name TReason (the capital T and R are very important because he wanted it as Truth and Reason, but it was too long, so it's just easier to call him that. also because i thought itd be cool to have a double meaning to his code name so)

The Ingredients:

(now here's where we're going to probably going to go into the basics of the universe, like:)

Internal Pier Point Cartel -

Their goal is to take advantage of the chaos of the underworld and bring different mafia and gang factions together, striking deals that more often than not grows their own manpower and authority, but lurks in the background of all underground deals

Wants to ‘maintain’ the underworld in Pier Point society

Is a massive pain in the Intelligentsia Branch’s ass

Their highest ranking mafia members are called ‘Stonehearts’ and are shown in promotion and position by their assigned color scheme and gem

These are the enforcers to the deals the IPC strikes. Most notable is Jade, one of the first big members of the mafia, that makes the contracts between mafias and more often than not traps different mafias into the breaking of these contracts and forcing them into working under the IPC

Stonehearts that the Intelligentsia Branch has recognized are: Opal, Jade, Topaz, Sapphire, Aventurine, Pearl, Sugilite, Obsidian, Amber, and Agate (and all of them have their own folder and case files formed over the course of years from other towns the IPC has infiltrated)

Stonehearts are a term coined by both the mafia and police/investigators. nobody knows if the police or mafia thought of it first, but after their MO's came to light it became more apparent where they got the name from

They know the most about Opal, Jade, Topaz, Sugilite, and Obsidian, with Aventurine being the newest member but quickly becoming more often seen. Each stoneheart is known to leave a small piece of their respective stone as a signature to who was behind either mass mafia shootings/killings, raids, or an assassination. Each is strategically placed in a spot unique to the stoneheart, each one showing their own specialty and personality, but they never have any prints or evidence on them, and the gems are usually clean after trying to trace them back

Jade’s is usually left in a room that the Intelligentsia tries to raid or storm, left tauntingly on an empty surface to give the clear message that she is one step ahead of them all

Obsidian’s is usually left in the middle of a bloodbath of mafia members, a spot of black left within a pool of red and very hard to find since she likes to see who goes scrounging around through the blood to find it

Opal’s is only left after very big wins are made to the mafia, either a merger, territory expansion, or another indicator of the mafia’s impending growth. The authorities have started to dread seeing opals at different scenes, and sometimes is just dropped at a desk

Topaz’s is usually left in the emptied bank vaults of different mafia’s headquarters when they try and raid or sneak an informant in undercover, and usually the start of meaning either Obsidian, Jade, or Opal’s plans will be enacted - a precursor to violence and the calm before the storm

Sugilite’s stone has been left at very few scenes, usually an assassination hitman scenario with his stone placed at the crucial point of where the killer was, and usually found a few days or even months passed the initial investigation opens because it takes a while for the authorities to figure out how the assassination had taken place and by that point it should have been gathering dust but they are always in pristine condition, as if someone comes to check if its been taken yet and dusts it off often

One time they found the sugilite stone and left it - only 24 hours passed from where they found it and had surveillance on it but they realized it was missing and later found at the desk of the chief of police, and a week after that it was found to be swapped for another fake stone. The real initial stone is presumed to be taken from the evidence storage and has sufficiently scared the crap out of all the police department since everyone scares the rookies with it and it's grown like something of a ghost story among recruits

Aventurine’s stone is a recent addition, usually found left in casino’s or winning gambles, hotels, and also very randomly. It was initially thought that it was Jade starting to be more active, but Ratio put together that the previous locations didn’t match up, and once a jade appeared once he tested the two against each other and discovered this was a different stone altogether, further terrorizing the police that another stoneheart was discovered (previously there was only nine and now that there's another there's fear that another stoneheart may join the ranks or expand, but so far none have appeared)

Each stoneheart left their own stone at an introduction event, so the police department knows of each one that has been ranked up and that there are ten, but there isn’t enough information to gather how they work into the IPC inner workings.

One time they found an agate stone cast aside and crushed, so they don’t know if agate somehow died and this was a remembrance of sorts or someone was careless enough to step on it (taken from theories on if agate is dead or not from the trailer vids on hoyo's yt)

All the stones eventually disappear from evidence rooms after about 6 months from when the crime took place, but the ‘initiating’ stones are always left behind as a reminder to the police that the Stonehearts are still active (another good note that Ratio finds when Agate’s stone has yet to be stolen back apparently. Either that or they want to keep record of all the different stonehearts elevated in rank)

Ratio found out Aventurine was different from Jade with the presence of light and how it seemed to sparkle more, and compared it to the ‘initiation’ jade that the police have kept and found the difference from the coloring and stone lustre

I'll probably leave it as that for now, and post a reply on the general idea of how to flesh this out, and yes it does kinda include the codename stuff. take it as you may for this, but I thought if they gems are so prevalent in hsr, especially as each stoneheart casts it in their vote when deciding what to do with aventurine, why not incorporate it into their mafia dealings and personalities as well as a calling card of sorts? there's all sorts of philosophical and psychological reasons that ratio often thinks about when implying these crimes were done by people who take after gems, and i think that'd be something cool for him to ruminate about through the story.

anyways ill probably wait until tomorrow to reply and give a general premise bc i need to edit the summary i had before into a more cohesive format, so enjoy this in the meantime~

I rewatched the trailer over n over and here's some more stuff I found! I'm really gonna go all over the trailer for crumbs about the story so buckle up

Crunchy Chip gets hit with the Tom Holland and is understandably terrified but here's something interesting:

Caramel arrow cookie and some other warriors disintegrate into flour too. But they aren't terrified like Crunchy Chip. They smile as they float up and crumble into specks. We don't even hear their cries of help. So one of these visions we're seeing is false.

Yay these guys! I didnt notice it at first but they're meant to be dumplings. The box is what threw it away for me lol. Also the heavenly gate. Maybe it mirrors the Dark Cacao Wall?

ALSO the story is going to take place at the Flour Peak of Transcedence I assume.

The mountains don't match up but there is a very distinct cloud motif.

And if it doesn't take place there specifically, at least we know something big is gonna happen near that twilight sparkle thing.

Also, mystic flour before corruption?? The veil is not here so it's possible this was their land before corruption but the edges on this soul jam is angular and the one we saw in the Ancient Force Awakens trailer is rounder so I'm not too sure. But the veil and those spider like ribbons are gone so that's interesting..

Also at the beginning of the trailer we see this altar...made of Cookie bodies melting at the base. Hotpot mystic flour? /j

It is said that Mystic Flour has been in a cocoon for eons. So when they finally turn into a spider..

Look closely at the markings on this spider. Mystic flour can turn into a spider? Which explains the cocoon so that's cool (the giant enemy spider jokes are gonna be everywhere oh god)

Statues that look like mystic flour before the corruption (no veil, the bun, that pose) But it might just be a stretch.

The splash screen. Now this is interesting. Caramel Arrow, Crunchy Chip, and even Dark Choco aren't visible here. Either they get taken out back (iykwim) or the true battle is between Dark Cacao and Mystic flour. Also the text is made out of spider silk! (?) It's a little hard to read though.

Wow that's a lot. I guess I'll keep rewatching? Oh and Dark Choco Cookie.

We only saw a glimpse of him at the end, but hopefully he'll have some importance in the story. (That or he dies I'm saying it right now something horrible is going to happen to a character we like this update)

No mention of the magic candy either for carrow or doco so womp womp :( maybe that'll change though. The stormbringer update didn't tell us about a magic candy for blueberry pie or twizzly gummy until part two so there's still hope!

The Blade Baron uses his Blade Storm to start swiping at Yasha ... crap! EIGHT D10 Slashing damage? Fuck ... that's nasty ... thank fuck she's Raging ...

Gaz arrives! Phew ... he flubs his entrance, but he's there now, at least ...

Veth rushes to join her friends ... and fires her Aeorean Security Cannon into the Darkness, hoping she doesn't hit Beau (or at least that's what she SAYS) ... 39 points of damage? Wow ...

The Blade Baron sets in on Gaz ... oh man ... PLEASE make it through, big guy! Thankfully Matt rolls absolute BALLS so he gets through JUST FINE ... so the Baron just FLEES?!!! XD Oh my gods ...

Gaz goes right after him and just starts POUNDING on him ... oh yeah, he just KEEPS ON HITTING HIM!!! Nice ... That's 66 points of damage he unloads on him ... and that's IT for the Baron! Beautiful ...

Veth just BOOKS IT and makes a flat out DASH right past the remaining foes ... who manage to MISS her ... phew ... then she jumps down and makes a PERFECT landing right onto the juggernaut ... instantly blinding him ... very nice ...

Beau attacks while he's blinded ... POP POP!!! Juggernaut's hurt, but still in it ...

Caleb chucks a Fireball into his nuts ... and ENGULFS HIM!!! Nice ... Claeb grabs hold of Veth and pulls her away as the burning enemy plunges over the edge ... nice ...

Okay, time to head into the tunnels, then ... Beau dumps a bunch of ball-bearings behind them as they go.

Fjord and Jester are the only 0ones left out there, along with Gaz ... hmmm ... meanwhile they're still taking fire ... oof ... yeah, they're getting hurt, but hanging in there ...

Jester jumps down and SLIPS ON THE BEARINGS!!! Fuck ... yeah, she bruises her butt when she goes down ... oof ...

The feskul tries to attack Gaz ... it starts snapping at him, but doesn't influct much damage on him in the end. The other swoops on Fjord, but he's able to fend it off ...

Fjord throws some Eldritch Blasts at it, and two hit ... yeah, one's a CRIT!!! Nice ... yeah, that's some serious damage, and he blasts it right out of the sky. He follows the others and now they're all together ...

Just Gaz left, then ... he manages to disengage and jumps across too, JUST manages to avoid the bearings and now he's with the rest of them. He turns to cover their entry, leaving them to head on inside.

Jester gives him the rest of her honey before she goes. Snd he calls her "Honey Miss!" Awwwwwwwwww ... :3

I hummed as I skipped into the elevator. "Mommy, do you wanna know a fun fact?"

"Sure! I love fun facts!" Mommy closed the gates and then re-locked them.

"The fun fact for the day is that I'm very pretty."

Mommy smiled at me that made me feel loved. "That's because you get it from your Father,child." She pulled the lever that closed the elevator door and then takes us all the way down.

"You're pretty too,Mommy!" I smiled big because it's true.

I thought she smile big too because it's nice being called pretty. But I felt a little sad when Mommy only nodded, showimg me a little smile, and then petted my hair.

Mommy calls Daddy handsome and pretty all time and it makes Daddy smile. When Daddy calls her beautiful, sometimes she smiles and giggles. 

It's always so gross when they kiss on the mouth. I always say, "Ewwwwwwwww!" and have to look away.

We both have freckles,blue hair and I have one pink eye. We all have pointy teeth too! I called them fangs but Mommy said they're called canines-like the dogs!

I guess we be crazy dogs since we like biting Daddy sometimes. Sometimes she hugs me from behind to bite my cheek.

Not in a mean way! She says she bites us in a loving and playful way.

She's like a porcupine 'cause of all the spikes she has. Her earrings,her choker, pants, gloves,and boots are ALL SPIKEY!!!

I tell her if she hugs me too hard that she'll pop me like a balloon or poke my eye out and that makes her laugh and smile. I love making her laugh and smile-it's the best thing ever.

I hugged alot of people before:

My Daddy ,Aunts, Uncle Scar, my friend Anna, Mr. Heimerdinger, Ziggs,Kayn, Great Aunt Cassandra and Great Uncle Tobias.

They're all so warm and it feels nice. But one thing about Mommy is that she's ALWAYS cold. It's like hugging a snowman.

She has blue lines around her around her eyes- and her lips are always purple but not when she puts on lipstick for date night with Daddy.

Her skin is really, very pale. It makes me think of a ghost. I don't tell her that part like the porcupine one 'cause I think that'll be mean and make her sad.

I think that's why she didn't smile. Does she not think she's pretty? I hope not 'cause I love Mommy and I know she's the prettiest girl in the whole wide world.

It's always dark in her hideout but her eyes always glowed. Sometimes I wake up at night and she'll be in my room sitting next to me while she stared.

I like it though.

Mommy said she's been watching me since I was a little baby. I like it more when she's there after I had a bad dream. That way, I can hug her and tell her what happened.

It's with these bright colorful lights and dolls hanging there. There's spray paint everywhere and she even has a bathtub in there!

There are propellers we have to walk on to get to her work table. Mommy said it used to be a thing that was suppose to help Zaunites with clean air but Piltover people gave up on fixing it.

Theres a HUGE,big black hole down there. Mommy's and Daddy take me on their hoverboards really super high and them let me fall.

It's REALLY fun! They always,ALWAYS catch me and been doing it since I was littler so I'm not scared of heights.

I know to never,ever run on it 'cause it's dangerous but Mommy always holds my hand.

She wants me to stand behind the fence thing. Mommy's bigger,so she gets to stand and sit on the propeller. She pulled two chomper pins with her teeth-she's so cool- and watched it beep.

Its mouth started moving faster and its eye blinked really fast. Mommy kicked them and we watched it fall in the pit until...BOOM !

"Yay!" I cheered,lifting my arms up in the air and jumping. Mommy looked at me and smiled big like she always do when I cheer.

We laugh and smile when she did another one. I love watching how the real ones burst into flames as they fall.

Sometimes Mommy gives me her lighter-Well, Grandpa's Silco's lighter 'cause it has an 'S' on it.

She let's me hold it and watch the flames. It's like it's dancing when is moves back and forth. I could watch it forever 'cause it's that pretty.

I love the fireplace at my Aunts and Great Aunt and Uncle. They only use it for winter but I love staring at the fire 'cause it's so warm and beautiful.

It makes me want to take alot of paper and watch it burn. I'm six-years-old now and that makes me a big girl and know not to touch it or I'll hurt myself.

That's why she and Daddy let me sometimes-they call it a controlled fire. We'll go outside in a alley with balled-up paper and a cup of water.

Mommy or Daddy would lit it and we watch the paper turn black and spread to the other ones. I like it but it's always small and that's boring.

When I'm bigger I'm going to do a whole big fire without them 'cause being bigger means you can do what you want without Mommy and Daddy.

Dragons Rising Season 2 part 2 teaser breakdown

my thoughts and feelings regarding the DR s2 part 2 trailer. I have not watched any external analysis. this is pure unfiltered me

So we start off strong with Beatrix punching someone or something. Given the red landscape, I'm thinking it's Lloyd in his vision. So that's great. Very interesting that they keep bringing her up in the visions but we haven't seen her yet. Maybe she'll show up in the Tournament?

And may I just say that Source Dragon looks beautiful! Still in Lloyd's vision. The crown she's wearing is glowing and that might be significant. Could be showing her powers? Whatever those are. Fire or Motion would be my guess.

Lloyd has a little close-up shot with him looking pretty worried. Could be in the vision still and I'm guessing it is given the red shading around his face. So yay another confusing/angsty Lloyd vision! That's what we're here for!

We get a good look at the Tournament place! Idk if it's a palace or what. (again, haven't watched any other reviews.) But it's very big and colorful. The little TV in the background shows Lloyd doing something, probably fighting.

Whoever this guy is, ringing a bell. Could be the start/stop of fights, that would be my guess. No idea who that is but he'll likely be significant and say some lines.

KAIIII! Kai in the Netherspace! Still in his Climber Suit and I'm glad. We've seen people change outfits when they probably shouldn't have so I'm glad they didn't (yet) with Kai. He goes through an upside-door and walks into a room with at least three of the Forbidden Five! They're all facing to the right with their heads bowed. One of them is glowing and might be sitting on a chair or throne. There's no waaaaaay that'll EVER be significant (can ya hear the sarcasm??). I can't WAIT to see how they're gonna deal with him in there cause there's no way Kai won't get into a fight. I hope if he does it's to protect Bonzle. He's the big bro ever <3

GROUP SHOT! Wyldfyre looks tamer with her new hair lol. And Cole's back with the group YAS! LLOYD IN HIS MASTER OUTFIT FINALLY! And all the suits look so cool. Riyu in the back—I wonder if he's competing or what cause idk how they're gonna deal with a dragon who apparently has a lot of potential, given the Source Dragon of Energy last season. Also Arin and Sora being excited is so wholesome cause they're just kids. Meanwhile the others (minus Wyldfyre) have already been in a tournament...

Back in the Realm of Madness! But uhhh why is the Dragon Matriarch from Season 1 there?? And she looks injured. Reunion with her and Riyu. I hope she's okay.

Wylfyre being Wyldfyre...she might be defending someone given her expression and the wall of fire.

Sora killing it at the obstacle course (part of the fights maybe or training—not sure yet).

The same guy who let the Ninja into the Tournament is on a hover device holding a phone on a selfie stick, so I'm gonna guess he's the announcer for the fights or social media watching them.

Arin and Sora shot with the background doing that thing (idk what it's called lol) when they learn something shocking. Probably with epic music cause it's Ninjago. Without much context I have no idea what the revelation is but I sure can't wait to find out.

Cinder with...fire??? It looks like Wyldfyre's Heat. Idk. Is that was smoke is supposed to look like?? I don't remember that at all from last season. If he can use Heat then Fy is in trouble.

Sora racing through the undergrounds with a little dragon coming up beside her. I have to say it looks very cute. Not sure who it is or why Sora is down there but they could be helping each other escape or smth (idk if you all have a better idea lmk).

Master Lloyd (hehe) fighting someone at night. I'm hoping it's not part of the normal Tournament but it's getting caught doing smth at night cause that's more fun imo. In that whole sequence he's only playing defense—just blocking attacks—and not trying to land a hit of his own. It would be crazy if he's fighting Jay. That would give a reason for no offense. Also the attacker's outfit is new.

Jiro and Zanth fighting Imperium guards! They could be with Beatrix since Imperium stopped fighting dragons. I wouldn't be surprised if there were still guards loyal to the ex-empress.

We've been here before... Hopefully Fy has a better time (though she gets blasted back by Cinder using Shatterspin in the video soooo idk). If Cinder is using Shatterspin, the Gong of Shattering and a wolf mask are readily available for him.

Sora gets trapped by spears. She's got a new weapon too, more like a staff, glowing with her color. Did she make it? I hope so.

Lloyd gets snatched by a dragon. Still in his Climber Suit so probably ep 11 or 12. He's falling but it doesn't rly look like he's worried about it? More like a controlled glide. Also yeah that's Heatwave. So happy he's finally getting more screentime.

The Source Dragon of Motion! She looks awesome! ... That's the Monastery of Spinjitzu below. Holy Creation she is HUGE! I'm guessing this happens at the end of the season.

Sooo that's the teaser. I am so very normal about this.

I'm curious why they didn't add more of Kai in the Netherspace. It could be more of a secret thing like how they hid Jay so far in the series by not putting him in ANY trailers or promo clips. Lots of mystery surrounding him. PLEASE let him fight the Forbidden Five at some point!!

i have found the problems i was anticipating or maybe they have found me.

sidenote: was hoping this colour would be a little more olive and a little less military, i'll see what i can do about that. that'll be interesting.

anyways since everything was going very well i decided to change the tie-up to a satin - because i can weave that now!! exciting!!

as you can maybe tell from the photo, it works. but i have trouble with the last shaft, which wants to have its neutral position lower than everyone else. it's pulling down. i suspected this might be correlated with the cords of the last shaft/last treadle holes being taught, while all others have progressively more slack towards the front. so in rest position, these last cords are what hold the treadles up from the floor, the treadles rest on these cords, ergo the last shaft pulling down.

my non-weaving friend suggested yesterday that this might be an issue of me being perfectionistic and having reached a workable shed, to work with what i have achieved. that this tie-up may in fact be impossible to improve. however, i strongly feel it is not good enough to have a solution that: has a single treadle sticking up too high (making it difficult to operate) as well as a shed that is just barely workable. countermarch looms became widely used because they could do the exact thing i'm trying to do here (says allen fannin)

He also describes the issue i'm having quite nicely when talking about the balance required for the countermarch system and then he says this:

"[...] the weight of the treadles equalizes the pull on the ties to both the riser and sinker lamms, thereby canceling the resultant movement of a differential force between risers and sinkers."

when talking about how the treadles need be ≥ the weight of the harness.

overall i still don't feel like i quite understand. i suppose i can try taking out all the connections to the last shaft and see what happens. ok have tried that, 1 is still hanging low, 2 has joined it. uhm. conclusion?

the way i understand the countermarch system now, or try to picture it, is as a scale. the sinking and rising of each shaft is related to a piece of wood with a hole in the middle: when at rest, it should be horizontal. when you pull down on one end, the other rises and vice versa. to control this, both ends are attached to an upper and a lower lamm - one will raise the shed, one will lower it. which is pretty cool! because now you can make connections between these lamms and the treadles to store any combination of rising and sinking shafts. once i have done that tie-up, i can now step on the treadle, which will pull down the combination i have selected, which in turn brings up the remainder of the unconnected combination of lamms. yay, shed!

so anyways, i'm spending a lot of time sitting and staring and contemplating pivot points and feeling how much force it takes to lift pieces at different points and sighing a lot and generally feeling a little like the worlds dumbest creature. but we'll see.

in a way i am also happy to run into this issue, because if it just works, there's nothing to fix and i always feel like i don't really understand what's going on when that happens? i genuinely do prefer trying to work through issues rather than gliding along seamlessly (because that's where the learning happens yes, but also) because that is concrete, then the things i don't know take form and i can prod at their edges and try to get an idea of the shape of what i don't know. whereas if i'm unaware of not knowing something i certainly won't be able to do anything about it.

Hi not dead 2025 is just happening at breakneck speed. Little overview below, tw for cancer and other health issues (everything is fine, if you don't wanna read. I'm not going anywhere)

Like I'm not one to say life's not fair but if it wants to let me up from the ground that would be so cool. So!!! Idk if I mentioned this but my ticker does weird things (they're benign but my heart skips a beat every 1-3 beats). So I yelled at a cardiologist who just kept telling me I was too young to have heart issues, until she listened to me and gave me meds and now I have a regular heartbeat! Yay! Good news. Less heart attack anxiety.

And to top it all off my uncle died of a random!! Widowmaker heart attack on Monday n left behind his wife n two kids, so that has been So Much.

Met with a dermatologist for a Weird Bump ( ain't that ominous ). Unfortunately the biopsy came back Inconclusive, with two potential causes. A malformation of scar tissue, or,,, skin cancer. The good news is!! If it is skin cancer, it is a rare but very treatable cancer that doesn't metastasize, and can be treated by a very simple surgical removal. So to be safe rather than sorry, I'll be going in for that on Monday. It's so minor that they said I could go into work the same day, tho it wasn't recommended. So like, no biggie.

And we're due for another crazy storm tonight and tomorrow so hopefully?? I keep power n internet ( I doubt it )

Also my job sucks and I am tired all the time.

All this to say I am still alive! Even if I am exhausted! And I miss writing. I'm pretty active on discord rn, with plans to pick at things. I'm still working on my OC and I think that'll help inspire me a little bit, if I'm not as limited as I am with Lena sometimes.

Today is MOVING DAY. We were able to get a few things we needed, and we're borrowing a mattress for a month or so (it's older than my daughter and not comfortable, and we both have fucked-up backs so That's an issue), but we do have stuff we need for this TINY STUDIO APARTMENT.

We're not starting over entirely! But as far as furniture goes, we have like. Two medium desks (neither of which will fit into the new place :/), a bookshelf (also won't fit), a nightstand (WILL fit, yay!) and a friend is loaning us some folding chairs. I have some folding table hardware that I could theoretically make a new top for, but that's assuming a lot about my hands and their ability to function lmao.

Anyway, we have a new place registry! We have the... Basics of what we need exactly at this moment, but that goes away in a month or so.

Next payday we can get the bed and frame probably! But if you want, you can donate to the gift card fund to help us offset the costs. The items all go to a friend's place here in Reno, bc I'm not sure what the mail situation is at the new place yet.

If you can't or don't wanna, that's cool! No real expectation on my end. Y'all are loved regardless.

Once my friend gets back from vacation - the one who's been letting our homeless asses camp on his property - he's going to help me get the new to us vehicle into tip-top shape and I'll get back to DoorDashing when I am physically able. Hopefully that'll be soon!

UPCOMING FANFIC+COMIC THING YAY

After not being able to draw I suddenly just go "why not make a comic that'll take too long to make yeah sure" So um... Yeah. I'm gonna put some stuff to look forward to under the cut here

So I'm gonna make a fanfiction! While I currently don't have a name for it but as soon as I start it will have a post to promote it. :D

The fanfic will be a text/novel type thing, so next time I can't think of something to draw I'll just draw a scene from that

Gonna hopefully get around to also doing clay firgures of the KRBAY characters. If I end up doing it I'll make it look the star warrior figures we see in the show! Forgot which episode it was lol but COOL RIGHT?! (no promises for these figures sorry)
