imagine an Observation Duty-type game, but there actually. aren't any anomalies. and if you sit through the full game doing nothing, the music will ramp up and you'll get multiple warning messages, but you'll still always win so long as you don't report anything. because there were never any anomalies to report in the first place

...but if you do try to report an anomaly, the second you do it, shit starts for real. you'll have walls changing texture, stuff falling from the ceiling, ghost intruders poking their heads through doors, the works.

it'll be immediate hard mode, ramping up to the point where the game is near-impossible, with sneaky anomalies along with very obvious ones, as well as some that the game will just simply refuse to fix, because fuck you that's why

and the streamers and the youtube gamers will suffer, and pull their hair out, and find themselves in an endless loop, never to truly feel the satisfaction of victory

because I don't think a single one of them could go the full length of a game without either imagining an anomaly where there isn't one, or getting desperate and guessing wildly out of anxiety and because they think it'll help

anyway I'd probably title it something like "Unobservant", because somewhere in the tutorial it'll have a guy full-on saying, "but don't worry! surely this house doesn't have any anomalies! >:3" and honestly, it's the gamers' own faults at that point if they choose not to believe him

Sketch dump! I havent done one of those in a while. These are all from June-July while I was on vacation.

First we have Layal! The delightful Mother of Monsters, aka the Ghost Zone’s most evil mama bear AND my take on a fem!danyal dan! I like to imagine she could pummel Dan into the ground, but that stands true for any and all of my au Dans. Bc i am INCREDIBLY biased.

She mostly lives on her island in the Ghost Zone, taking in monsters of the Infinite Realms of all kind and raising them as her own. Surprisingly enough, she does genuinely love her children. That’s about where her love ends. She stole the minotaur, his name is Asterion.

Then we have Daini-Yel! He’s from an au i’ve never actually talked about on here. He’s literally just Danny for an Epic!-inspired au. He's an unknown entity in the newly released open-adventure, odyssesy-inspired game "Nautilus", and he is not a part of the game's code :). He showed up three months after the game's initial launch, and was discovered during a live when a streamer was on their way to fight a boss much similar to Circe and the streamer accidentally took a detour and found his pathway (of which did not previously exist).

He's very friendly! And offers you, the Captain, a strange liquid with even stranger powers called "Ektolai", in order to help you fight Circe. His whole vibe and creation is literally just the song "Wouldn't You Like" from Epic. If you run into him enough times at the start of the game, you can convince him to join you on your adventure as part of the crew. He's a powerful ally and a very good friend, despite his strange awareness of the world around him...

Oh, but be warned... just like the rest of your companions, your actions have consequences and what you do affects their opinion of you. Daini is no different! Your close allies can quickly become enemies.

I spent the afternoon figuring out the letter replacement code that shows up on your art sometimes (I think it looks super neat!) and I managed to get most of it, but I'm missing the letters J, Q, and X. Would you mind sharing what those letters look like?

honestly J and Q are two of my favorites so it's unfortunate I made them the symbols for two letters that are basically never used lol.

A little over a year ago, I posted a tier list of my opinion on all the guys from all the otome games I'd ever played. To my surprise, that post continues to get attention even now (it's probably my most popular post, even), so I felt I might as well do an updated version. For those familiar with that list, none of the previous characters have been moved; I just added new ones.

This past year, I've added Radiant Tale, My Next Life as a Villainess, Winter's Wish: Spirits of Edo, and Tengoku Struggle: Strayside to my ever-growing list of played otome. I even wrote my in-depth thoughts on the latter three, which you can find on my blog for anyone interested. I like and would recommend all three, to varying extents. Wish I could say the same about Radiant Tale. :/

I'm pleased to say I found five new guys and/or routes that I can honestly say I love, as well as adding Sharaku from Tengoku Struggle to my Best Boy hall of fame!

I'm always down to talk about otome, so feel free to let me know if you want to talk about my opinions, whether you agree or disagree with them! I also made another tier list just for fun, showing how I feel about the characters based solely on design/appearance... but that one's a bit more embarrassing and subjective, so I might not post it unless people want me to.

Here's hoping we continue to get great otome games translated in the future, and that I can get around to finishing the ones I left hanging.

List of somewhat niche non-fighting games I heavily enjoy on Steam

Roguelikes:

Streets of Rogue (genuine top 5 game for me)

Death Road to Canada (maybe not top 5, but very good)

Gnosia (pretty weak payoff though, hopefully the anime fixes my issues with the plot and characters)

Visual Novels:

Game of Fourtune (technically have it on itch.io though. Has some noticeable issues, but overall i'd say it's pretty good)

Methods: The Detective Competition (I have many an issue with the story as a whole once you complete it, but man is it a fun ride with a super unique artstyle. I love their other games as well)

The Zodiac Trials (various ups and downs over the course of the game, and it quite frankly does NOT stick the ending, but if you're willing to let some things slide, you'll enjoy all the places it takes you)

Head AS Code (One of the most competent indie death game visual novels from a writing standpoint, potentially the best, it pulls off all of its twists well and is an excellent purchase for any Zero Escape enjoyers)

RPGs:

Why Am I Dead At Sea (short, cheap game with a story that I think hits its points well. Has a nice soundtrack, a nice artstyle, and is a good grab if you want a short time killer. Also it apparently was an inspiration for Dance of Cards so extra credit there)

Dance of Cards (AHHHHHHHHH I FUCKING LOVE DANCE OF CARDS AHHHHHHHHHHHHH)

Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass (the odd name hooked me during an RPGmaker game sale and I played the ever-loving shit out of it. Utterly fantastic in its execution)

Wooden Ocean (you know those people who claim that "there will never be another game like X"? I've never really believed any of it until I stumbled into Wooden Ocean, I truly do believe there will never be another Wooden Ocean. Chances are, no matter what I say, there's nothing I could say to convince you to play it, and in a way that kind of just makes it better. Wooden Ocean has hooked its fleshy claws into my brain and rewired my neural pathways in ways I can not comprehend, Wooden Ocean is a piece of art that cannot be recreated, it will never be recreated. Become romantic.)

Shadows over Loathing (Shadows over Loathing is very funny, I like that)

Miscellaneous

Bokura (very enjoyable co-op game that likes to personally fuck with you when it sees fit, heavily recommend with a friend or partner)

I created a new enemy for my game!

this enemy is a mix of a spider and a pumkin. Don't underestimate him! He has many eyes and will chase you, if you aren't careful. Thank god that you have such a powerful sword!

how does iteratorkit work i havent been able to find any resources mentioning it

In theory, Iteratorkit allows you to easily create iterators in-game with javascript rather than having to code one from scratch using C#.

In reality it barely works and most of the features are broken. The creator also officially abandoned the mod a while ago. I don’t recommend using it unless you want to give yourself a massive headache.

I’ve been lurking in the Rain World Modding server for a while trying to see if anyone else is willing to try and fix it, but from what I can tell it’s basically broken beyond repair. 🫠

Most of the people who previously relied on Iteratorkit have switched to coding them basically from scratch in C#, which I might have to resort to if I get desperate enough.

October Demo Update!

Happy Halloween!

I've released another update for the Mizuki and the Crimson Moon demo! This update isn't anything huge and just include enemy AI updates and bug fixes with some other small changes sprinkled in. The change that I'm the happiest with is the changes to the yurei (featured below). Now she has a proper ranged attack and death animation!

For anyone who reads this, I hope you give the demo a shot! It can be found on Steam and ItchIO. I am now working on the final update to the demo, and it's going to be a large one (the first boss is in development!).
