I can’t believe Yamanaka Hiko’s been terrorizing me for over twelve years now. OH MY GOD I’M SO OLD. And true to the Yamanaka Hiko brand, this turned out to be another fantasy masterpiece (read His 500 Years of Suffering Romance). This was definitely the type of thing that would do great even without the BL aspect of it. Now, I did have an issue with Kidou being an asshole (he's almost killed Yoshino more than once), so I’m not excusing it. But I do get how and why he turned out to be like that and I'm aware that it's important for his character development. The world-building was great, don't get me wrong, but it's definitely dubcon 2015. I would strongly advise you not to get into it if that's a deal breaker for you.

Anyway, onto the voice work.

Souma used a tone so close to Gucci's that I kept imagining Gucci being Yoshino. Yes, I didn't read the manga while listening to the BLCD. It was like after graduating Karasuno, Gucci went on to become a teacher, then a donor lmao. His Yoshino panics more like Honda-san, however, so my final verdict is that his Yoshino is half-Gucci, half-Honda-san.

This isn't Nakajiki and Souma's first rodeo, but I'm glad to say that their performance/dynamic here is different from Mikeneko and XL Size. I expected Kidou to be a mix of Amano and Anaconbayashi-kun 'cause the former was cocky and the latter was stoic, but Kidou was only 50% of that mix and 50% brooding, suffering, I'll-protect-you top. Am I even making any sense? Again, I listened to the BLCD first, but the sound direction they gave Nakajiki was very different from what I thought he'd sound like after I read the manga. It’s almost like what happened with OnoD’s expressive Hasebe-kun in the Kotonoha BLCD vs the more stoic Hasebe-kun in the manga. 

The voice work of our two leads was 👌. This might just be my fave out of their pairings 'cause the sex isn't over-the-top like XL Size and Mikeneko. I will say that I wasn't completely sold on Yamashita Seiichirou as Shibata-san 'cause I feel like he speaks too slowly, but I'm sure it'll grow on me by the time I listen to their spin-off. KawaKen was fine. My heart broke for him every time Shibata-san rejected him, so it's safe to say he's got Taki-kun down already.

Oh. I did have a slight issue with the sfx too. Why was it so watery??? Lmao. Even r18 otome cds aren't that wet. But it's not so glaring that it'll turn you off.

The BLCD was almost perfectly accurate to the manga. I highly recommend this to those learning mid to higher levels of Japanese. Futekiya has licensed volumes 1 & 2, so please try to support the official release if you can. I'd be lying if I said that I agree with how they translated it so... literally?, but I think it's also important to see how things are translated that way if you're aiming to dip your toes into translation aside from studying the language. For example, they used "Living God" throughout the manga instead of "Ikigami." It's correctly translated, but I personally prefer retaining the original title. You know, like how Viz uses "Kaiju no. 8" instead of "Monster no. 8?"

God knows if I'll ever survive the spinoff that I wanted to work on. I avoided talking about it for a reason lmao. Anyway, if y'all liked this, then please give 500 Years (Ono Yuuki x Suzuki Tatsuhisa) and Shortcake no Ichigo Sawaranaide (Nojima Hirofumi x Takeuchi Ken). These two are android bls and Ikigami to Donor is more guide bl, but they both share a futuristic vibe.

he's one of the most guys of all time.

He's voiced by Tetsuya Kakihara, who also voices Elmott in gbf.

He's part of one of my favorite song of the game, where he has a gay duet about vampire yearning with Tasuku (voiced by Takuya Sato, of Lu Woh's fame on here). And who wouldn't want a gay vampire duet with those two.

For the "fun" fact about him, Azuma is a cuddle therapist. It means that he sleeps with people to listen to their woes. He says the job is fully innocent, while he's also treated like a pariah for being into a shady branch of jobs. This job also gives him a lot of connection and we're basically sure he has at least some clients who dip into illegal stuff because he can pull some strings to have a false ID made for example. Despite his job being "wholesome" he also talks a lot about having sex with people and trying all sort of things so there's that too.

But the reality of Azuma is that he's actually extremely closed off. His family died when he was really young and none of his relative wanted to take him in, so he basically wrote himself down as fully alone and unable to connect with people. Still, he craves for human connections, and it's why he picked his job. He can't personally be vulnerable about himself, but he's here to listen to anyone and help them going through their problems. He also have night terrors when he sleeps alone, which is another reason he picked up this job.

he dropped everything to become an actor in our company after seeing two members of the Autumn Troupe fight for each other, and realize he was kinda jealous of them, of being able to connect with others, to trust others while vulnerable.

He joined the Winter troupe afterward, troupe famous for struggling to connect with one another because they all have raised their walls super high. Azuma himself struggles to fit in, as everytime he feels like he's getting too close he worries of what he might lose and he ends up shutting himself down, ghosting people, thinking about leaving.

But he's fine. This is fine. The Winter Troupe has his back.

Anyway the whole "therapist so he can read you like an open book, giving the illusion of intimacy to others because he's damn touch starved, will be the type to throw sex and flirty jokes at you to distract you from seeing him as vulnerable, while also in mourning" means that in my perfect gbf x a3 collab event that will happen one day i want him and Belial to meet. They'll drive psych warfare on each other and/or have sex and i need to see it for reasons.

As for dangerous part this is my favorite bit about it. Sakyo in this scene is a Yakuza btw and they're playing a Yakuza themed boardgame:

Do you have any interest in Pokemon? Not because I want to nerd out about it specifically, but because... let's just say, I've been rather inspired after reading your Raincode stuff, and watching some Pokemon animations online. (人◕ω◕)

Still have to determine if this is merely a temporary spark, or a true desire to write out what I have in mind, however~ (人◕ω◕)

You know, it's strange. For all I talk about Sayaka being the "source" of so many muses and subsequent harem ships these days... My true, honest beginnings - my first forays into discovering and reading fanfiction in general lies in...

Ash x Misty. n___n I must've discovered fanfiction.net myself back in, ooh... 2004? That feels so long ago. I'm old. XD Had no interest in writing back then, I was just thirsty for a ship that canon kept mercilessly teasing me with. No other anime I liked had me so invested in a ship. I suppose Digimon eventually hit me with Takato x Rika, and Takuya x Zoe, but Ash x Misty was definitely my origin point for anything fanfiction. That was the first time I ever Googled "Ash x Misty stories" or anything of that ilk. Seeing so many stories on ffnet made me proud to be a shipper for them. lol

Granted, I was a kid. And the quality of fanfics was as varied as it is these days. But back then I didn't care so much if some stories were cheesy. I remember coming across aged up Ash and Misty scenarios, a more adult and nefarious Team Rocket terrorizing them, Ash as the Kanto Champion and TR trying to get to him by assaulting/kidnapping Misty.... That was one of the better written fanfics I read back in the day.

That all said, am I still a Pokeshipper these days? Ash x Misty, sure. And shinobisage09 made a Ash harem card a while back...

In terms of my tastes? Ash x Misty is my highest priority. Ash x Serena is alright, I just haven't watched the XY anime to grow attached to that ship, while the original Pokemon anime was my childhood. XD Ash x May is okay, very neutral to that one... Ash x Melody is fun. She was only in the 2000 movie, but man she left an impression~ Melody is probably the reason I enjoy Natsumi Kuzuryu so much. Or rather, girls like them - spunky, tough girls that have tender sides they don't like showing. Ash x Anabel is fun, too, from what I remember of the Battle Frontier anime... Ash x Dawn is okay, like May I'm pretty neutral about it. And then the grass girl there... I haven't watched the Sun and Moon anime either, so I dunno what that ship - or rather, how the girl thinks about Ash....

I guess to summarize, my favorite Ash ships are Misty, Melody, and Anabel. Serena to a little lesser extent. Then Dawn and May. Then anyone else, so long as it's not toxic or creepy. XD I suppose that girl from the fifth movie... Bianca, I think? Or Latias in her form...? Whichever it might be, the kiss at the end of that movie was cute, but I'm a bit unsure about dabbling in human x Pokemon.... Not sure if that's a kink of mine. It might be easier to "assume" that was the real Bianca kissing Ash, and not Latias... Even though the evidence points to the contrary. lol I'm used to burying my head in the sand~ XD

But I digress. Outside from Ash...? Uh.... Probably the only other Pokemon ship I like is Brock x Lucy (the Pike Queen). That episode in Battle Frontier was awesome. XD Beyond that, I can't think of other ships in Pokemon that I like. I haven't read the manga, so I'm neutral to any Red, Brendan, Krys, or any of their ship stuff. I do find Leaf to be cute. Claire is hilariously tsundere. Cynthia is bae~ Gardenia is cute. I love Team Magma Courtney, specifically her Omega Ruby version. She's crazy, but I like the crazy~ XD I don't necessarily ship those girls with Ash. Maybe Courtney x Brendan (Hoenn protagonist), but that's about it.

Who are you!? An emissary from Hell– Spider-Man!

The first and only time Hiiro tries to self-soothe his eight legged terror, he meets Spider Extract infused hero Takuya Yamashiro through the gaps between his tiny fingers. By the next day, he’s no less afraid of spiders than when he started, but he is a number of mesmerized, sleepless hours deep into the start of a lifelong fixation.

It’s enough to start learning a second language– to revisit the same pages of the same American comic books over and over again until he can pretend that people like Peter Parker are real. He never quite grows out of it. And then one day–

(Exhausted from dress rehearsals– recitals– moving– training– filming– living– Hiiro ends a hundred different nights with his nose buried in the finale to one of his favorite comic runs. On the final page, a film student interviewing strangers on the street asks Peter Parker what he thinks of Spider-Man.)

…I think Spider-Man is… He’s a good guy. Mostly. He tries to do the right thing, and—you know—hopefully people see that. But he’s also–

A hero.

A real hero. A supernova of unrelenting kindness and bravery burning high above them all, impossibly out of reach like stars are meant to be. 

The one Hiiro can reach digs into the palm of his hand as he tries for the fifth– tenth– twentieth time to understand how to do the impossible. But no matter how desperately he begs the corded bracelet and its stolen memory to tell him their secrets, he just doesn’t get it. And he won’t get it. Not for a while. 

Not until death visits the island for the first time, and Mugen smiles anyway. 

Hiiro tells him he doesn’t need to—that he would feel better, knowing his heroes aren’t always smiling—and the quiet, vulnerable relief of Mugen’s frown clicks the first piece of an answer into place.

He’s human. He makes mistakes. He… He can’t save everyone. 

It saves Hiiro’s life.

Writing a Spider-Man Fanfic, The Life and Times of the Scarlet Spider. (Six Years in the Making.)

So I'm writing a Spider-Man fanfic that just stays in it's own Universe with it's own versions of heroes and I wanted to share some of my character's differences to other Spiders. As well as his origins before the story.

His name is Jackson Steven Parker, named after Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko and he shares the same disability I do, Cerebral Palsy. Which messes with and interact with his powers.

In the story, he's been the Spider of Universe 3329 for six years since the age of 15. His parents are Ben and May Parker and raised him with a firm love of metal and mosh pits. But when he was fifteen and after a rather violent confrontation with his bullies fueled by Korn left him out of a school trip, a frustrated young Jack ended up in an alleyway thrashing to some metal, being bit by a genetically altered Spider, known as OsSpider number 0775 (A reference to the month and year Ben Reilly appeared as the Spider-Clone!) giving him stupendous powers. Ben and May were quickly roped into the fact their son had Spider-Powers.

There was an altercation with the almighty Big Wheel that ended with Jack being less than popular with the authorities because of his Spider Legs and fangs, plus the webs and stingers.

While brainstorming with his best friend Eddie Brock, Jack comes up with the epithet of the Scarlet Spider because of two other men already holding the title of Spider-Man... Takuya Yamashiro, The Emmissary from Hell: Spider-Man!

And...

Ezekiel Sims, the Spider-Man of the controversial Government Squad, the Sons of America!

Also, with the rise of his powers comes the Cat, Felicia was the most popular girl in Jack's grade and quickly whisked the boy into a life of adventure. Meaning that she made the Scarlet Spider into the super-thief he is.

While trying to steal from a Maggia-Owned bank, the same bank Ben and May do their business and where Ben gets his reluctant Overtime assignments, Ben and Jack end up on opposite sides as Spider and father face each other.

Instead of fighting his son, Ben takes several bullets for his boy. Fatally wounded but Jack not knowing it, he gets whisked off to a hospital, dying on the operating table.

Instead of being motivated to use his power responsibly, Jack and Felicia become terrors to the Maggia, knowing where they're going to hit and when, as well as draining all their accounts and burning them down. However the taking down of the Maggia brings the attention of more enemies like The Shocker, Tombstone, Rhino, Tombstone, Arcade, and other such baddies.

Six years after they're put away, Jack is 21 and in College, happily dating Felicia, and living a good life...

But not for long. He's tired of being on the wrong side, stealing and running, not really helping people if it wasn't in the way of him and Felicia's interests, so now he's going solo to give back.

However, Felicia doesn't like that. Seeing it as an easy way for him to get torn apart but he doesn't care. All he wants is to be someone people can trust again and finally make good on the words Ben had told him.

But what powers does our Spider possess? Well, look down under the cut!

Powers.

Proportional strength of a Spider: This is a classic of Spider-dom but with Jack it's special. Because of his weaker lower body, he needs an anchor to help him use some of his strength, so here comes the next one!

Spider Legs: From his back come four crimson Spider Legs that anchor and help him balance and orient himself when it comes to movement and balance as well as holding things. They're retractable and sometimes extend when he doesn't need them because of his...

Spider-Sense: Jack's Spider-Sense is far more sensitive than Peter and Miles's Spider senses comparatively. Because of his Cerebral Palsy his Spider Sense is overactive and completely makes him and his other powers react to a lot of different stimuli, making him overstimulated and very jumpy. But it's also handy for figuring out the layouts of buildings and traps. Although it leaves him awkwardly scuttling around.

Organic Webbing: From Jack's middle two knuckles comes his webbing from a little slat between them, shooting out from there. He doesn't need to press down, all he needs is to turn his hand palm up and thrust his wrist down with his pinky and index finger extending in a 'You Rock!' symbol.

Venomous Stingers and Fangs: Jack's body produces venom that is stored in sacs in his mouth and wrists. Connected to a set of pointy fangs and a set of vicious yet slender stingers that pop out from the base of his wrists. The venom is a fast acting paralytic that targets the muscular system, shutting it down before quickly kickstarting it, causing the recipient extreme pain. However, these are only activated in an emergency.

Trance Nozomu

The best guy to teach you about the terrors of religion.

In the aftermath of us beating the crap out of Nozomu in the Lost Island quests, the preacher reflects that he was “wrong” this whole time: Tamashii are not static beings, they change just like humans do, and that is why they are beautiful…

"I was wrong this whole time..."

There’s always a catch to this opening pattern though, as we soon learn from Scientist. 

Nozomu ended up gathering a new following for his new doctrine. He wants to advance humanity to the “next stage” in their “evolution". That is, he wants to turn the entire human race into tamashii. 

This quest introduces a new minor character called Yoshio, a human. Or he was at least, until he met Nozomu. Yoshio was a comedian who got his big break doing weird dumb jokes. However, it looks like such jokes have now fallen out of style and the poor man is not doing so well.

Yoshio’s joke repertoire seems to primarily revolve around making weird nonsense noises.

How is an unpopular comedian going to make enough to support his family? In the midst of his despair, Nozomu lends a helping hand.

"I can make your wishes come true (by turning you into a tamashii)"

Takuya and Yuki hear about this new case soon after. A human turning into a tamashii without being involved in the Shoumetsu and without being anywhere near the ice pillar, it’s almost like what happened on the Lost Island…

They find out Nozomu is indeed the culprit. He uses Yoshio as an example of how wonderful becoming a tamashii is. The man has finally fulfilled his dream to be popular on stage. He can now do the thing he wants to do forever. 

"I guess I don't need to go home either anymore now that I'm a tamashii ahaha"

But Takuya and Yuki question if this is truly what Yoshio wants. How could a man who loved his wife and kids so much say he'd be fine never going home again? For who do you think he was working so hard for in the first place? Hasn’t Nozomu just twisted his notion of the ideal?

 Tomoko comes out from nowhere and agrees we have to stop Nozomu. The man is not kidding when he said he plans to turn all of humanity into tamashii. 

Nozomu is literally planning to extinguish humans as a race entirely.

And his plan will work if he can convince people to come to his side. Starting with the tamashii, he will amass followers, who will spread the word of Nozomu through all channels, including social media. As long as a human believes in Nozomu, they will be turned into a tamashii.

In every battle with Nozomu, he waxes on more about his new philosophy. Tamashii can change, they are full of possibility, and that is why they are sublime. Humans are incomplete beings, they should be released from their mortal coils and become tamashii. Tamashii represent the ultimate freedom, they are true happiness.

He tells Yuki that she, more than anyone else, should be able to understand because of her power. 

I feel like the way Nozomu frames his argument as a solution to happiness and escape from pain was quite similar to how Daichi almost convinced Yuki to give up in World 1. Takuya also says people unsatisfied with their current lives may find Nozomu's proposal attractive. But rather than making their dreams come true, it seems more like running away from reality by rejecting everything outside their dream.

But where a weaker World 1 Yuki may have been tempted, World 2 Yuki holds her ground and accuses Nozomu of actually destroying Yoshio's dreams instead of fulfilling them. As a result of turning into a tamashii, Yoshio lost the things that were truly important, the things he held dear as a human. There is no more meaning to him standing on that stage if he's not returning to his wife and kids. 

Nozomu says the solution is simple: just turn the wife and daughter into tamashii too. 

I mean, he's not wrong...

Nozomu also tries to sway Takuya. We all know it wouldn't have a hope of working on the real Takuya, but this is currently Souma in Takuya's body and the dramatic irony is heightened when you hear how "Takuya" responds to Nozomu:

"Even if i become a tamashii my dream won't come true. I don't want to seek happiness using that method either. Without my hands, my feet, my body, I am not me. I will fulfil my dream in this body, I will become happy in this body. If not, there would be no point being born human!"

We beat Nozomu, but Tomoko says he will eventually resurrect again (wow literally Jesus). Takuya says we’ll just beat him down again (to which Tomoko interestingly replies that was a very Takuya-like response).

But actually Tomoko knows if Nozomu revives we will not be able to defeat him alone. Which is why she has made use of his “natural enemy”: Kunito. This was actually the true reason she gave him the AF knowledge to make the diffusion device. 

Now that Kunito is aware of Nozomu’s plan, he’ll be forced to make a move too. Which is perfect, because Kunito is just itching for some revenge against Nozomu for what he did to him back on Lost Island...

The two chaotic forces Nozomu and Kunito represent the opposing notions of good and evil, and Tomoko hopes they will wipe each other out. 

But Nozomu seems to think that Kunito is the key to his doctrine. Because he was the earliest to turn into a tamashii, the most mature of his subjects, he is also the living proof of the benefits of being a tamashii. 

If Nozomu is able to win over Kunito to his way of thinking, it might really be game over.

OBSCURA EVENT ONE: CLOSE

                     THE STORMCLOUDS CLEAR AND THE SUN SHINES THROUGH.                                        ( but this quiet can be nothing but temporary. )

As morning breaks marking the end of two dark weeks, the streets of Sunseong are oddly quiet. Wind still rustles flyers speaking of the Chaos Controller’s destruction down the streets, but these flyers have grown dirty and sun-bleached. No bodies are discovered out on display, and no screams were heard in the late nights. For the moment, the Chaos Controller and her minions appear to have fallen back. Sunseong’s streets are, at least for now, safe at night once more -- or at least as safe as they ever have been, with the conflict ever-boiling beneath its skin having only briefly reached a head.

And indeed, Sunseong is shaken to its core. Debates flood the news and a number of popular blogs, impossible to simply turn a blind eye to as most people once did. Riots and protests flare up at every turn, sometimes as often as daily, causing yet more disarray and discord. The Chaos Controller has left her mark on the people of Sunseong. The damage is far from repaired yet -- and experts say the situation is far from resolved, with investigations still underway to uproot the matter at its core and prevent such terror from coming again.

Supernatural relations are on thin ice, perhaps moreso than they have been before. Many human leaders have begun to more silently side with the Chaos controller’s ideals -- some even more vocally proclaiming that October will not come again. Even some mundane citizens often seem to think that perhaps their city would be safer with the “supernatural menace” eliminated. The Chaos Controller would have never attacked if they weren’t around in the first place, right? And even if her target was supernaturals, how many humans had to be caught in the crossfire for her goal to come to fruition?

But in a brighter twist, the disaster has sparked discussion. With the protests has come a great deal of activists pushing for supernatural rights -- people who want to protect supernaturals from these sorts of horrors, and who see the threat as a factor of negligent surveillance more than simply supernatural nature. Some political figures have stepped forward as the head for these movements, claiming that humans are humans regardless of their magical alignment. Many heated discussion are thrown around on various pro-supernatural news sites and channels; media from around the world is turning its eyes toward Sunseong.

The makings of a change are certainly here -- but no one can see yet what form it will take when the storm finally settles.

The Problem With Introduction (FU CH17)

Alright, before I copy all my content in here, I want to explain what this is. I have a journal held for quarantine, and I write entries in there each day about what’s going on in my life. Today, I mentioned my work on Frontiers Unexplored. I’m up to chapter seventeen in my advanced typing, and this chapter just so happens to introduce the true identity of one of the Fallen Warriors. Spoilers ahead, but here’s the analysis on what makes this character so hard to integrate as part of the Risen Warriors’ party. This is copied and pasted from my journal, something I wrote at 3 AM, so sorry about typos. Oops. 

My typing schedule was disturbed with the arrival of Frontiers Unexplored. Chapter seventeen was started today, and I introduced Chihiro to the rest of the group. Of course, this is problematic, and this story decided to throw all of my plans for the week into disarray. Absolutely great, right? 

Here’s the problem: Chihiro is the hardest character to introduce out of the characters who aren’t there from the start. Koji wound up as part of the group out of necessity while Mayumi is talkative enough to bridge the gap between herself, Haroi, and the remainder of the team. Yumiko and Hinoka are relatively quiet, so they’re easier to approach. Saki’s got enough charisma to carry them through their own introduction. Koichi has an inherent link to Koji. Chihiro, on the other hand, already knows Takuya, but they’re a bit too abrasive and cagey to really open up to the rest of the group right away. 

I know exactly how I want to handle Chihiro after they’ve been part of the team for a bit longer, but that does not apply right now. The rest of the team is wary of them since they’ve spent all their time as Aeoelmon and Cybelemon raising hell as a way of venting out emotional trauma brought on by Lyramon. Takuya knows that they have pure intentions, but everybody else in the group is socially inept and doesn’t know how to handle this. Izumi is the best to look at this situation, but she’s still exhausted and worn from seeing Tomoki nearly lose himself to paranoia and terror and then watching Takuya attempt to destroy his body out of rage. She can’t exactly look after Chihiro at this point, and it’s not like Chihiro would listen to her at this point anyways. 

I wrote the first quarter of this chapter and decided something about the chapter didn’t seem to feel right. I don’t think there’s really anything I can do to fix that aside from keep going. Chihiro’s not going to be introduced with any sense of grace to the rest of the group between everybody’s silence, their short temper, and Takuya’s jubilant behavior. There simply isn’t a way to ease Chihiro into the group’s dynamic, so I’m going to need to find a solution elsewhere. 

Where does this solution come in? The second half of the chapter, as a matter of fact. I wrote the second quarter of the chapter and felt as if I had a better grasp of what I wanted to do with Chihiro, likely because I didn’t have to hold off and offer time to Lyramon’s reaction to all of this, something that did happen at the start of the chapter. 

This is the second chapter to not contain any fights, the first being chapter twelve. Chapter twelve was a transitional one between the Evergreen Dawn arc and the search for the Beast Spirits. Since chapter ten was such a heavy hitter, I needed some time to switch gears, and I figured the readers needed the same. Chapter eleven was a diversion focused on Mayumi and Haroi while chapter twelve was meant to go back to the main group grappling with their worst failure yet. There weren’t any fights in the chapter since it instead focused on everyone’s thoughts after Seraphimon and Sorcermon’s deaths. 

Chapter seventeen is going to be much the same way, though this time, I’m going to ease the readers into understanding Chihiro. It’s going to take some time for them to be truly understood by the readers and other party members, but it’s a start. I’m going to give Takuya and Chihiro the chance to talk alone about everything that’s happened, and it’ll also give me room to pop over to Mayumi and Haroi, who have taken a backseat since Blizzarmon first showed up in chapter thirteen. I feel like this change of pace is necessary to make sure the readers don’t get tired of all the constant fighting, and it’ll allow for a good chance to understand Chihiro as a person. 

They’re rather complicated, to say the least. Chihiro is similar to Takuya in many ways since they’re both adventurous, stubborn, reckless, loyal, and brave. However, Chihiro’s differences from Takuya are what make them such an interesting character in my opinions. They subvert the typical goggle headed protagonist trope by having all the potential traits of a goggle head but not quite fitting the bill. 

Chihiro’s primary difference from Takuya is their pessimism. Takuya is bright and cheerful in the face of opposition while Chihiro tends to get bitter and downtrodden easily. Takuya’s regular charisma and natural leadership is missing from Chihiro, replaced by a consistent and conscious repression of emotions. They tend to think ‘out of sight, out of mind’ for better or worse, and their anger issues are far notable despite Takuya being rather similar on the matter. Takuya is able to clumsily stumble his way through emotional subjects while Chihiro shuts them out entirely. They care greatly about each other, but Chihiro can be a bit overly reliant on Takuya despite their apparent independence and lone wolf persona. It’s an interesting blend of traits, and I think that’s what makes them so hard to write. 

How are you supposed to introduce a subversion of the Digimon protagonist trope? Chihiro is probably most similar to Masaru from season five, but even so, the similarities only go so far since Chihiro is written to walk the fine line between Digimon protagonist and side character. I suppose that’s where my problem is coming in. The only person who Chihiro is willing to open up to is Takuya, and that is a huge problem inherently when it comes to the introduction. 

Chihiro isn’t a problem on their own, but given how different they are from the rest of the other party members solely because of what they represent, introducing them to the Risen Warriors is difficult. I’m glad I put more time into this chapter so that it could feel a bit less scatterbrained. Acknowledging that Chihiro can’t enter the party gracefully was the first step, and it all got easier from there. The second half of the chapter will properly go into the audience’s first impressions of Chihiro by allowing them to speak with Takuya and giving insight into their blunt yet repressive nature. I’m going to put work into my other work throughout the week and avoid this doubling up stunt I pulled tonight, but I’m still happy I did it.

One of the princesses of Jahad.

Possessing both top-class strength and experience, she has an extensive combat record as a "High Ranker," one who has reached the highest level of the tower.

She expresses an interest in the "Irregular" Bam who is not bound by the rules of the tower, and when Bam is forced into taking a harsh test immediately upon entering the tower, she lends him the legendary weapon "The Black March" granted to her by King Jahad.

Though his combat abilities are weak, he's an intellectual with keen powers of observation and is even smart enough to see through fellow intellectual Khun's strategy. Shibisu is a warm-hearted and genuine young man who always cares for his friends.

    Hello, 

  I am SIU, author and creator of “Tower of God.” When I was young, I imagined that in 2020, I would be able to wear shoes that would give me the ability to fly.

  It's currently 2020, and I may not have these flight-enabling shoes, but the webtoon I worked on for over 10 years on Naver, “Tower of God,” was finally given the chance to become a TV animation. I never would have imagined this to happen.

   I hope this animation gives everyone more joy than those flying shoes. I hope everyone enjoys this thrilling and exciting adventure with the few selected turtles from “Tower.”

Got up at 8 am to prepare for signing off on rental lease in Ballard. Takuya and I drove out, getting there early. We spun off each other’s humor, while I waited nervously, what if we don’t get the house? It was a sick deal. Soon enough, Cameron shows up with his lanky frame. He looks like Abe from Hellboy, without the gills of course. We walk into the laundry room, or as he very wryly claimed—“ his office”.  Well there we go, a new place, a new year, hopefully, a new job ( : 

Have been very anxious about Reid, in particular with regard to her being in NYC for the week. I had no idea I would be so explosive with angst, this is clearly a problem for myself to resolve. It has been an overthought, overwrought situation, probably going to result in some kind of artistic ventilation, which it has ! 

She’s even changing the way I punctuate my grammar, with spaced ( : smileys, and spaced exclamations ! ! 

Am I in love? or do I just want to be around for a grown version of her? What is authenticity? Do I let my thoughts devolve into something else? Are these reflections of myself in a mirror of my own making? Seems dramatic.

Handle yourself. Handle your emotions. Get a grip on your affection, don’t let it crawl out from under the bed to terrorize her. Don’t let it consume the situation, tend to it and nurture it without enabling aggression.

[ENG] Yurina Amami on Es & “Undercover”

DECO*27's fussy lecture about saying "Future"! Yurina Amami, who will sing the first song, felt the mystery behind it?

Co-produced by DECO*27, one of the leading Vocaloid composers, and Takuya Yamanaka, known for his human psychology oriented literary style, this original work, “MILGRAM”, is a viewer participation type music project. The MVs, which are the keys to unlocking the prisoners’ sins, are currently being released!

Animate Times is conducting an email interview with the voice actors participating in the project! Our first guest is Yurina Amami, who voices Es. This time, we’ll hear about Es, who exists as the audience surrogate, and, of course, the visuals, the lyrics… We’ll also hear about the song "Undercover”, which attracted numerous users with its scattered mysteries.

“Milgram” was already mix of excitement and mystery...and then they appeared! What were the pointers for playing Es, the audience surrogate?

“Milgram” has finally started, so please tell us what your thoughts were upon hearing the outline of this project.

When I heard about the outline, my honest first impressions were: 10 prisoners? All of them are “killers”? A viewer participation model? A three trial system? I had so many questions. The concept had never been done before, so I was incredibly surprised by its novelty.

Not to mention, I was gonna sing songs made by DECO*27 and act out a story written by Takuya Yamanaka?! I remember getting super worked up over that. I love the look of the world, which those two created, so I’m honoured to be involved with the project in this way. 

Es exists to be the audience surrogate and interacts with the prisoners as such. Did the staff give you any explanations or directions for their role beforehand?

Es will act as the audience surrogate until the very end, so I kept it simple and added some aspects of their individual character. As the prison guard, I’ve been given some leeway, but Es remains cool, calm and collected towards most things. I wasn’t allowed to be emotional. However, despite being this work’s protagonist, I was told that their character shouldn’t stand out too much. Since their sex remains a mystery, they also taught me lots about Es’ character, so that I wouldn’t end up leaning too far to one side. 

Honestly, it took me a long time to understand and get a feel for Es’ part. In addition to that, Es often says "Hm", but I had such a hard time grasping the nuance behind it...lol

The MV of "Undercover" was released and its numerous mysteries are attracting so many users! What a fitting song for the opening, created by Yamanaka and DECO*27!

The MV of “Undercover” was released on May 15, 2020, and marks the start of the series. Please tell us your first impression when you watched the video.

From the moment the visuals of "Undercover" appeared, I thought, "there’s no way I can stop watching this". I was glued to the screen from beginning to end. There were many scenes in which the dark atmosphere heightened the mystery behind it. And, above all, the characters’ movements were incredible. 

Were there any aspects in the visuals and lyrics, which were of particular interest to you? Please tell us your favourite parts as well.

The lyrics which I was curious about were "You would probably smile and be pleased" Same goes for the visuals—the scene, where everyone gradually laughs more and more, sends a shiver down my spine.

From there, they seemed to be hinting at something while the chorus played for the last time… That made me feel a sense of terror. Also, the lyrics where the kanji reading was "you" instead of “me” was another favourite of mine. Es is you and you are Es—that was what I thought. But, more than that, I thought the word gave a sense of unity between Es and the users.

Also, the MV of "Undercover" may have a dark atmosphere, but there are some cute parts, which I personally like! When the chorus is played for the second time, in the scene where the tied-up prisoners appear in order, Amane looks like a scroll. It's so cute… Please have a look!

When you were singing “Undercover”, were there any aspects you paid attention to, were particularly fastidious about, etc?

This song is the so-called opening song of “Milgram”, so I sang with lots of strength and tried to give off the impression that we were moving at a fast pace. It’s an incredibly cool song, so I was worried as to whether or not my singing voice would be able to keep up.

As for fastidious… In the song, there’s a scene for each prisoner where I have to mimic them, so I listened to Mr Yamanaka as he talked about the set-up in detail and managed to deliver the “essence” of each prisoner in my singing voice. If you can feel the difference between them, then I’m happy.

Not to mention, “future”. He was very fussy about this part. Sing it like this! And so, I had to listen to their consultations on how to produce the correct sound, DECO*27 actually said the word “future” himself, and I had to go through a lot of lecturing. 

When you first read the lyrics or after you finished singing, did your impression of Es change?

Not really. Just like how Es doesn't know anything about themself, I feel like there are so many things about Es which I don’t know yet either.

Furthermore, I personally chose to sing "Undercover" more like an opening song, which would mark the start of MILGRAM, instead of treating it like Es’ own song. I also don’t know much about how things will unfold or what will await us from now on, but someday I hope I’ll get to know the real Es!

It’s the users themselves which make the project more exciting!

Since observations hold the key to a project like this, it is expected that there will be discussions among users on the official app and social media. Please tell us how you would personally enjoy “Milgram” or if you have any suggestions for those users.

Do loads of analysis, share your opinions, and tell lots of people about Milgram. If you get 10 people, you’ll get 10 different ways of thinking. Not to mention, this project uses song lyrics, singing voices, visuals, and voice dramas! Those can all be looked at from various angles.

If there are sections in your analysis which are lacking, someone could fill in the gaps for you. It’s fantastic! Please pay attention to everything and fully uncover the sins of each prisoner. There’s also an official app, so it’d be great if you could make the most of that as well, while continuing to make Milgram even more exciting!

Lastly, please give out a message to those planning to enjoy the project from now on.

Since MILGRAM is a three-trial system, its users will have to observe the work for quite a long time. The information we’re given at the moment—about what on earth kind of sin each prisoner has committed—is a puzzle in itself.

However, this project is one which all of you will help form alongside us. Analyses are a given, but things like song and dance covers as well—to the people who produce those derived works, it’d be great if you could use them to make the project itself more exciting!

I’m sure that once the third trial ends, the project will unfold in ways which my current self could have never imagined. The project may have just barely started, but it’d make me so happy if you could see it through to the end.
