MITCHIE : pinche cabrón! no okay so let me explain! what happens is that this man goes into our - my closet - and steals my hats before his shows. i don’t even realize until videos are posted!

INTERVIEWER : does your family approve of your relationship with the connect 3 singer, shane gray considering what his past is like?

MITCHIE : my mami is probably our biggest supporter in the family. i’m the first granddaughter, niece, my parents only child. the first of my generation. it’s not a matter of whether they like him or not. my family is just protective over me regardless of who i date.

MITCHIE : this tour has been an absolute dream come true. i have worked my ass off to get to this point and like it’s showing not only in me, but my friends, family and fans.

MITCHIE : i mean, it's crazy that i'm going to these latin countries to perform my music pero i'm just a girl from inglewood, california. now i'm also considered representation. like when did that happen?

MITCHIE : i love the feedback i’ve gotten about everywhere and my happy ending. i was conflicted about releasing my happy ending because it’s a sad vault song but shane agreed it needed to be added.

MITCHIE : no yeah! from the wood, with kisses. it talks about everything close to me. to me, it’s the most vulnerable i have ever been with the public about who i really am. where i really come from.

I feel pretty comfortable with the first two selections (although Griffith and Bike could be swapped), but then Bay’s second selection is where it really could go anywhere - I think there’s a ton of good forwards available to them from teams that Utah doesn’t get to pick from, so they would probably go for an outside back or maybe a goalkeeper in this round, but that could be Ryanne Brown or Jill Aguilera, or even Laurel Ivory or Maia Pérez.  If they were to take Aguilera instead, I would say that Utah probably takes Shae Homes as their second choice and then things generally stay the same from there, and if Bay were to take a goalkeeper from Reign instead of an outside back, they would probably then take Haley Hopkins or maybe Brianna Pinto as their second choice from North Carolina.

Two things worth noting:  first, pretty much across the board, if a player that I expect to be the extra protected player doesn’t get that designation, I think they will be taken as the second drafted player.  Second, I think the decision not to protect Thembi Kgatlana initially is baffling, unless a) she wanted to leave, or b) the approach was simply to determine protected/unprotected based on how many regular season minutes each player played in 2023 to reduce locker room tensions.

favorite thing about them: She's so terrible. I love when villains are both good at what they do and absolutely horrible people while they're at it. But I also love that she's genuine about being terrible - she doesn't try to hide behind excuses, just knows her desired outcome of her plans and is willing to do what it takes to do so.

least favorite thing about them: Kidnapping Vash and killing the people of Vash en masse. I may enjoy her villainy but I don't have to like it

Blog Post #1:Too Much and Not Enough Blame Being Placed on Individuals

First Entry 9/14/21 (Edited 9/23/21)

Many of the environmental studies journals and articles we read today focus on the role of the individual in reducing their carbon footprint. There is some validity to this assertion, as noted by the theory of the Tragedy of the Commons, while individual action in itself seems futile the collectivity of individual’s behaviors are what in large part contribute to the use and decimation of natural resources (Miller and Spoolman 2021,10-11). However, I think that far too often, we shift the blame of climate change and resource depletion onto individuals as opposed to the larger entities which are responsible for creating the choices provided to individuals, as well as for an even more significant amount of carbon emissions.

When analyzing the varying responsibilities of individuals vs larger corporate and government entities, it is overwhelmingly clear that organizations, not individuals, are responsible for emissions. According to the Carbon Majors Report, just 100 corporations are responsible for 71% of emissions (Riley 2017). Additionally, according to a study done by Brown University, the US military alone (not including the country) has a larger carbon footprint than many industrialized nations  (McCarthy 2021).These studies provide a stark reminder that no matter how many take out containers one recycles, no matter how many times one opt for travel on foot as opposed to more carbon-intensive modes of transportation, or how many bottles of “Love, Beauty, and Planet™” shampoo you buy, ones efforts prove futile in comparison to the environmentally destructive practices of many corporations.

One may argue that corporate carbon-emitting activity is only generated in response to the demand from consumers, and that if individuals really want to generate real changes within these corporations it comes down to their consumption. However, the idea that individuals have any control over the demands of corporations is ludicrous. Individuals are going to buy what is accessible and affordable to them. And corporations are currently mostly going to create products that generate a profit at a minimal expense. I believe that the only way to generate change among individuals is by forcing corporations to change their practices and products, through legislation and economic sanctions. Contrary to what a CEO of a major company would want you to believe, the price difference created by the transition from unsustainable to sustainable products is negligible, and could be covered by the cost of that CEO’s 15th yacht.

On the topic of a CEO’s 15th yacht, if we are going to be emphasizing individual action I believe we need to start with the actions of the individuals within the global .0001%. I’m not talking about the individuals who generated enough wealth to ensure a comfortable life for themselves and their families. I’m not even talking about the individuals who live in Luxurious Central Park S apartments and spend most of their time golfing while their investment banker generates even more wealth for them (although they definitely aren’t off the hook). I’m talking about the individuals who, in the midst of a global pandemic, wildfires raging the west, and record rains pummeling the east, chose to have a galactic d*ck measuring contest just for seven minutes of barely breaching the surface of the atmosphere (and in the process generating an exorbitant amount of unnecessary carbon emissions). These are the men who, while their companies profit off of “sustainable” products whose uptick in demand is generated by environmental panic of consumers, and while encouraging individuals to live more sustainably, are sitting in their corporate lairs laughing at our panic and continuing to, emissions-wise, destroy our atmosphere and air quality with their private jumbo jets and their separate yacht just for their helicopter (News18 2021)

Don’t get me wrong, I believe that the actions of individuals are important. In fact, the only way that we are going to be able to make a difference is by overwhelming collective action of individuals pressuring their local, federal, and international legislative bodies to actually pass legislation regulating corporations and forcing them to take accountability for their actions, as well as to reallocate funding from the carbon-intensive defense industry and towards climate mitigation. But I am just tired of feeling guilty for enjoying a hamburger every once in a while when it is so overwhelmingly obvious that the people who are most responsible for climate change and the degradation of our air and water quality are the people who seem to care the least. It’s time for governments to force them to take accountability and stop taking handouts from these CEOs to fund their political campaigns.

2, 5, and 10 for the ask meme?

2: What fandoms do you write for and do you have a particular favourite if you write for more than one? currently, my favorite is one piece because i’m apparently very verbose with it. (180k+ of fic and counting) i’ll always have a weak spot for shadowhunters (and by sh i mean jace/maia) and always magnificent seven.

5: If you had to choose a favourite out of all of your multi chaptered stories, which would it be and why? I don’t actually do multi-chap stories these days? mostly because it’s really hard for me to finish them. so the only real multi-chapter story i have is i never trust a dog to watch my food which is my camp rock 2 au for star wars. featuring finn as. uh. finn, poe dameron as shane grey, rey as mitchie and kylo as tess tyler.

10: In your xxx fic, why did you decide to end it like that? Did you have an alternative ending in mind? uhhhh you didn’t specify a fic so i’m gonna go with a general “i usually pick my endings ahead of time” answer. sometimes i have no idea where the fuck it’s gonna go until it’s there (prime examples include never were right and run) and sometimes i do end up with an alternate ending (the best damn thing, for instance, had a different ending where they did not get together that quick and instead suffered through pining.)

Oh I'll take some book recs! Any genre is fine 😊

the one thing I miss about college is talking about books. getting this ask made me so happy.

i'll start with my current genre of choice which is thrillers/mysteries. I just finished reading the Rizzoli & Isles series by Tess Gerritsen. if you've seen the show, know they're very very different. I also recently finished The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides and the ending very much surprised me. Ten Dead Comedians by Fred Van Lente is a funny take on Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None, which I also highly recommend. Final Girls by Riley Sager and A Good Girl's Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson are also A++. And finally, maybe the creepiest book I've read in the last year is UNSUB by Meg Gardiner. I made sure the security system was on every night lol.

to my other longstanding favorite genre, we have romance. I'm a big fan of Jennifer Crusie, Kasey Michaels, and Rachel Gibson because I'm a huge sucker for early 2000s mass market paperbacks. They're funny, light reads if you just need something to distract you for a while. I absolutely adore The Kiss Quotient series by Helen Hoang, excellent representation of mental health issues and neurodivergence in general. Also, did you know that Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams writes romance novels as Selena Montgomery? You should read them. My favorites are Reckless followed by Deception, and I am eagerly waiting for the third in the trilogy. For something more modern and a little steamy, The Shameless Series by Rosie Danan is super fun.

I don't generally read historical fiction, but I finally caved to peer pressure and read The Nickel Boys by Coulson Whitehead and I had to sit with that one for a minute because whew.

I went on an essay collection/memoir kick for a bit. some of my favorites were The Awkward thoughts of W. Kamau Bell by W. Kamau Bell, both I Can't Date Jesus and I Don't Want to Die Poor by Michael Arceneaux, Solutions and Other Problems by Allie Brosh, Coming Out Like a Pornstar by Jiz Lee (editor), I'm Judging You: The Do-Better Manual by Luvvie Ajayi-Jones, So You Want to Talk About Race by Ijeoma Oluo, Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic by Alison Bechdel, I'm Telling the Truth, but I'm Lying by Bassey Ikpi, and anything by Samantha Irby.

I have to be in a mood to read some contemporary fiction, but ones that stuck with me were Do This For Me by Eliza Kennedy, The Divorce Party by Laura Dave (who is a favorite of mine), The Book of Joe and anything else by Jonathan Tropper, Where'd You Go Bernadette by Maria Semple, and A Visit From the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan.

for political satire, books by Christopher Buckley. that's all.

a genre I read almost exclusively for a while but I've strayed from is YA. Anger is a Gift by Mark Oshiro, Monday's Not Coming and Allegedly by Tiffany Jackson, Tyler Johnson Was Here by Jay Coles, Darius the Great is Not Okay by Adib Khorram, Slay by Britttney Morris, Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston, Beauty Queens by Libba Bray.

I haven't read a lot of sci-fi/fantasy, but for funnies I did like the Midnight, Texas series by Charlaine Harris.

and finally, books that made me cry. Spoiler Alert: The Hero Dies by Michael Ausiello, They Both Die at the End, More Happy Than Not, and History is All You Left Me by Adam Silvera, The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller, and Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro.

HISTORIA:

Las tragedias comienzan temprano por la mañana, o al menos, antes de los diez. Sus padres nunca fueron mejores amigos, eso era un hecho claro que se encargaban de demostrar cada cumpleaños, navidad o acción de gracias. Pero el que tu esposa te haya echado de la casa, no quiere decir que tengas que darle la espalda a tus hijos también. Bueno, lástima que nadie le aclaró ese punto a papá Kenneth. Tyler y Tess, únicos hijos del matrimonio, esperaron por meses a que su papá regresara y tocara a su puerta con una pizza en mano, pero ni el padre ni el pepperoni. Heath Kenneth había abandonado a sus hijos, pasándolos a ser parte de las estadísticas de la pareja americana joven promedio.

Entonces vienen las crisis: El orgullo intocable de una madre sin estudios. que a su vez está destruyendo a su familia al no aceptar la ayuda de terceros. Con su salario como asistente de maestra apenas llegaban a fin de mes, por lo que una oferta en Illinois sonaba más que bien cuando el cheque por pago aumentaba casi al doble. Georgy Dunne tenía la solución en sus manos. Tyler en último año de secundaria podría trabajar un año y ayudarse a pagar la universidad; Tess estaba en vísperas de comenzar con su primer año de instituto y ella, al fin podría darles un hogar digno.  Oh, qué tragedia, que ella misma estuviera llevando a uno de sus hijos a una muerte segura.

Y después los errores: El trabajo en Chicago no era muy distinto al de Hammond, podía verse porque el pago acordado era casi del doble y es que no podías comparar la cantidad de niños entre ambas ciudades. Los Kenneth estaban relativamente estables y por buen camino, lástima que nadie les hubiese hablado de las bandas que merodeaban por el lugar. Tyler Kenneth lo averiguó por las malas, cuando un compañero de clase le pidió ayuda para un “trabajo” y éste salió mal. Sin embargo gracias al encanto de Ty, su infinita caja de monerías que él mismo era y su talento nato para los negocios, pudieron salir libres de ello y como súmmum, les dieron más trabajo al par de muchachos. Esto significaba más dinero para casa y tal vez, la posibilidad de un futuro mejor para los Kenneth. Ty no lo pensó dos veces y siendo honestos, debió de haberlo hecho.

Si bien Ty nunca fue parte de cierta banda, fungió como peón para el juego de drogas y narcotráfico en el que ésta era experta. La relación de hermanos con Tess se vio truncada por los pocos ratos libres que éste tenía entre su trabajo como mesero, la escuela y el trabajo aquel del que nadie sabía. Tess y Ty solían ser muy unidos, él le enseñó a conducir a ella y juntos reparaban el auto viejo de su madre para ahorrarse unos dólares en el mecánico. Entonces un día ocurre. Lo que siempre  ves en la televisión y piensas que jamás te pasará a ti. Dos jóvenes de apenas dieciocho años, baleados en medio de un tiroteo por un negocio de drogas que salió mal. ¿Quién pensaría que uno de esos dos sería Ty?  Nadie tenía idea de donde estaba metido, siempre pensaron que los dólares extra eran gracias a las generosas propinas que dejaban en el restaurante… pero debieron haberlo sabido, nadie era tan generoso.

Georgy Dunne cayó en depresión poco después del funeral de Ty. Tess por su parte, seguía en shock. Como en una especie de limbo del que te urge salir. Qué pena que en eso se había convertido su vida. Solo un año después de haber llegado a Chicago y ya tenían un integrante menos. La vida de ambas se volvió una especie de monotonía, actuando por inercia y yendo como autómatas por la vida. Qué irónico darse cuenta que Ty era la luz en su vida ya que éste no está.  La universidad se volvió cosa de sueños imposibles en su vida y por primera vez, Tess sintió rencor a su hermano por ser tan imprudente y pensar solo en él. De cierta forma, Tess estaba sola ahora: Su hermano estaba muerto, su madre era un zombie y su padre probablemente ya tenía otra familia. Tess tuvo que ponerse sus bragas de niña grande y salir al mundo para conquistarlo por ella misma. Tenía que agradecerle a los hombres en su vida, eso sí, por las tardes en el garaje y los fines de semana bajo el capó, ellos le habían dado la escuela y ahora, ella tenía que ponerla en práctica.

¿DE QUÉ FORMA AFECTA LAS BANDAS EN SU VIDA?

Therese a.k.a Tess Kenneth sabe que el mundo se mueve en base a negocios ilícitos. Nada funciona sin ellos: ningún gobierno, ninguna ciudad, ninguna organización. No obstante, ella prefiere mantenerse al margen y dejar que ellos se arranquen las cabezas los unos a los otros. No podía decir lo mismo de su hermano, que al parecer se vio encandilado como mosca a la luz y voló voluntariamente hacia el peligro. Tess sabe que existen estas bandas, sabe que hay personas como Tyler que son los primeros en la línea de fuego, sabe que tal vez quien le mató está allí afuera: saludándole, despachando su comida o llevando su auto al mecánico por alguna falla en el motor. Pero Tess no quiere saber más: no quiere saber quién es, no quiere saber qué banda era aquella, no quiere saber que “amigo” suyo metió a Tyler en el negocio de las drogas, no quiere saber más de lo que sabe porque entonces no sabe de lo que sería capaz. Tess prefiere poner en orden su vida y salir del hoyo en el que está estancada, pasar página en cuanto a su hermano y olvidarse de bandos y drogas por un momento: hacer oídos sordos y ojos ciegos ante el problema.
