Oddly, being stuck altogether had some good sides too. Timu had the feeling that the clan was strenghtening its ties. They shared a rare intimacy caused by their enforced promiscuity. Tensions had almost totally disappeared, to his relief and joy. Timu noticed that Vhra and Rhan had grown feelings of mutual respect and appreciation, which was a good thing. Being pregnant and showing, Iva was pampered by her peers, and the general mood in the cave was at its best. To Timu’s satisfaction, he got to get closer to Vhra, who was still impressed by his sight and would usually keep avoiding being alone with him. Rhan was still resolutely distant, but she was definitely warming up to him, what he considered a great achievement ; though he couldn’t really explain why, it brought him a great delight.

Day 1 and Day 2 of RadioStatic Week

vampire au where they can only drink the blood type they were before they were turned. other blood has an almost poisonous effect, burning them from within like acid and drinking too much of it can kill them

in the old days, before the knowledge of blood types, it made humans they could feed on absolutely precious. they're kept safe, pampered and doted on; a vampire’s most prized possession

attacking another vampire's human is seen as the highest insult; not only is it a slight against them, it also carries the implication of "i want you to starve"

it's also used as the cruelest of punishments; starving a vampire for months, until they're feral with hunger just for their torturer to throw in a random human, watching them desperately suck down poison, their instincts begging them to keep drinking even as it kills them

ghost is one of the few who survived it; thrown in a pit so deep, he saw stars in the middle of the day, left with nothing but the dried bodies of the humans roba drained without care, others with their throats slit, blood he can't drink spilled out around them

a taunt of the one thing he needs but will never get

but ghost hasn't survived this long just to give up here

he refuses to die in this stinking, rotted pit

ghost is a force of nature as he descends over roba's manor; killing any who wander into his path until the halls run red. until he gets his hands on roba and tells him a secret:

vampires can feed on the blood of any vampire, regardless of blood type

it becomes a legend in vampire high society; if you starve another, you'd best make sure they actually die

otherwise you might end up piled in a dining room, the vampire you left for dead lounging on a throne of corpses with his fangs lodged in your throat

ghost decimates roba's empire, burning it to the ground until no one dares to speak his name in fear of incurring his wrath. it's incredibly taboo for a vampire to feed off another but ghost's too powerful for anyone to challenge him and the other vampires are too scared to try. scared of what he's willing to do, the lengths he'll go to; not that they'll ever admit it

soap is the first human he ever brings to court; delicately bathed in the finest silks and jewels, his throat always bare so he can show off ghost's ownership, his bite framed in lace

he's not like the delicate waifs the other vampires show off; he doesn't cling to his master, demure and submissive. he shows off his teeth as often as any vampire, fully willing to rip out the throats of any who insult him or ghost

a feral master needs a just as feral pet

Don't get me wrong - this isn't a default replacement for the cab itself. This is a replacement for the stupid little thumbnail of the cab that appears on every comm lot entry in hood view...

...and for the larger thumbnail of the cab that appears when you go to the lot by taxi. I rarely do, but not everyone has the option to walk to lots, so.

Yes, it may look a little weird because the image is flat but the loading screen is angled - some images it's worse than others - but I don't feel like trying to warp the images.

Most of these started out on a light-colored background and will probably look weird on dark UI replacements. Wherever possible I've used artwork from the period, or reproductions of that artwork. Of course, some of these periods covered many years, but this is just a start.

I've included many options. There are a couple of prehistoric choices, an Egyptian boat, a Greek chariot, a Roman sedan chair and three Roman carriages, half a dozen medieval choices - carts, carriages, and people on horseback - a couple of 17th-century choices, and a handful for the Regency era, one late-18th century and a couple early -19th. Gaps include more Renaissance styles, Baroque/Rococo, and anything post-Regency-England, but I plan to address those in later versions; I was trying to cover eras that seemed popular first.

I fully intend to do additional versions of this, and carry on through additional eras - I have plenty saved for the rest of the 19th century, and a lot of medieval equestrians waiting to be converted.

I've tested most of these but not all, so if any of them don't behave as expected, or have weird marks/artifacts that don't seem intentional, let me know!

ANCIENT ROMAN NECESSITIES. PART 1: WOMEN

I know, it's very unexpected. I've been having lots of fun with the Test of Time challenge, and then I got to Ancient Rome… and the fun ended :/ enormous respect to all creators who have made cc for that era, but it's just not enough. I hereby present to you the results of my latest hyperfixation.

the meshes are my own, frankenmeshed from maxis meshes and modified. no need to fret about violating my TOU, because I don't care. use, modify, recolor, include. they all should have fat and pregnancy (tf-af) morphs.

1) long-sleeved, low-waist tunic. because of… common sense reasons, it's suited best for women who are more well-off. tf-ef, 28 swatches. DOWNLOAD

2) tunic with a stola; again. tf-ef, 73 swatches… I am sorry. I went ham. the actual Romans probably weren't THAT fun with their color combinations, anyway, but my sims Romans will be. they all have pretty borders, for the sake of consistency. DOWNLOAD

3) simple shorter tunic for working class women. tf-ef, 20 swatches, no fancy dyes or borders. DOWNLOAD

4) girls: shorter basic tunic and longer fancy one. those aren't as different, I guess. DOWNLOAD SHORT | DOWNLOAD LONG

With the boar Timu brought home, the fishes left to dry and the wolf Rhan killed earlier that day, there was plenty of food available for the tribe. The tomatoes plants weren't giving just yet, but the heat wasn't helping, even Vhra couldn't get around to make the plants healthier, and she was usually pretty good when it came to it. All in all though, all the bellies were full so it wasn't much of a concern for now.

Rhan grabbed a plate and came sit close to Vhra. She noticed Vhra wasn't in shape. She looked really tired, even after a good night of sleep. Truth be told, Vhra was feeling a little sad that Iva had claimed her son. Her baby boy was only inches away but it felt as if a river had them parted. Rhan reckoned motherhood was all too complicated. She thought she wouldn't mind letting Iva take care of hers, when the time comes. Deep down, Rhan isn't convinced she's got the skills for the job, and if anything, she thinks Vhra should be thankful to benefit from Iva's help, whose children turned out well and in good health.

But Vhra doesn't hear it. She speaks about leaving again, in a muffled, weak voice. Rhan says it's not a good idea, not now at least. She's so big she can barely move anymore, and she feels ready to burst. She really hopes the baby in her doesn't take too long to come out now. Unlike Vhra's, Rhan's pregnancy isn't going so well. She feels weak all the time, and the nausea lasted all the while. Back to that night when she killed the wolf... She really had a hard time raising her spear, and she didn't like it one bit.

Rhan says she's never having kids again after this one, and Vhra gives her the look. Does Rhan think Timu will let her be? Vhra saw the way Timu looks at Rhan when he thinks no one's looking. She hasn't seen it for herself, not even for Iva. Rhan shrugs, and chuckles. She's making Timu's while worth it, that is true! As long as she's pregnant, there's no risk after all. Vhra looks at her, blushing. Does Iva know? Of course she doesn't know, Rhan shrugs again. Iva doesn't want to see it. If Iva was to know though, and if she didn't like it like that, Rhan would fight her, as simple as that. Vhra shivered. She was never a fighter, punches and pain frightened her so much! Rhan laughed ; well she didn't.

Come to think of it, it'd been several nights in a row that Rhan didn't make it to the tent at all. Vhra supposed it was her insomnia striking again, but... As she finished her plate, a simple thought hit her. Maybe if Rhan showed so reluctant to the idea of leaving... it was because she cared about Timu too, maybe more than she'd care to admit.

Her nausea were still hitting hard, but Rhan wasn't a victim. She decided to take the twins out fishing. There's never enough salted fish, she said, to which Iva couldn't argue.

Timu thought it a good idea. They would use that time to tend the garden, in hopes that the tomatoes grow.

When the night came, the three hadn't yet come back.

Iva watched as Timu gave the boy a couple pats, all her instincts up. She wanted to be a mother again so bad! She loved seeing him as a father. It was too bad it wasn't Iva's son but Vhra's! As if to remind her, Vhra entered the cave. She had removed her garments, ready for nurturing, and Iva growled a low-pitched growl.

After she was sent back to the tent, Iva tried to get close to Timu, but he blatantly rejected her. Every night since the baby was born, Iva had yet shown mercy, and he couldn't take it any more. If to sleep, Iva's allowed in the bed again!

Iva's never been so hurt by him in the past. Indeed, it was the very first time he denied her his favours, and it was hard to swallow. She curled up around herself and cried silently. Had she been too much. Blinded as she was by her want of motherhood, she didn't notice the change in Timu's behaviour. As his woman, Iva had to fix that. She promised herself she'd work for him and not against him, starting the next day. She'd show up as his wife, as it was supposed to be. Maybe that was the reason she couldn't get pregnant? Maybe she needed to let go.

Comforted and optimistic, she slipped under the sheets. To her relief, Timu didn't reject her this time. Actually, he cuddled her, and they spent the night wrapped around each others, just like that.

long technicalities post

I just had to change some things before starting the new "year" (which amounts to approximately 8 human years in my game).

first of all, MODS I found myself in desperate need of:

antibodies after a sickness

get dressed autonomously

mini residential and community lots

also forgot to link the Stolen by Fairies mod. I thought about making my own multi-PT with gods instead of fairies/elves, but antiquity will pass while alien elves are timeless.

now that my sims won't be permanently sick (as realistic as it is - though I will make it worse in other ways), won't be prancing around in underwear in front of their servants, and I can finally have a proper 1x1 cheap taberna instead of ending up with lots of unused space and disrupting the look of the city part of the map...

ROS

the modified ROS scheduler doesn't do it for me. it's amazing, but it's linked to days of the week, and it tends to land on the same events a lot. I also got tired of the money events, though it was my fault for leaving them there. and all in all, even modified, it's not historical enough for me.

as a VERY cool base for my own ROS list I ended up using @12raben's random event list. they also have some useful mods in the beginning of the post. I haven't changed that much. I made some events less gendered, deleted a few, and made some others more reflective of my own situation with the ToT challenge. that said, right now it is tailored to the Roman era - I'll be stuck in it for two more generations, I think, and I don't mind. I'm thrilled about the party events, because I hate bothering with parties in my own game and I need something to MAKE me throw one. I also added two events for visiting the community lots - because I hate that too.

Health System

another part of it is the health system. for this idea, I have to thank @guessimate and this post (also the author of the Warwickshire Challenge - this, I think?). I like micromanaging in small amounts, so my version is somewhere in between. I used fewer age groups, made the starting Health Score reflective of the parents' Total Health Score (unless for a new sim), tweaked the Random Health Rolls and Modifiers. "fat" in ts2 is not really that fat (not a bad thing either, especially in those times), so I made being unfit less punishing and being fit more rewarding instead. Flu in ts2 is caught from roaches, it kind of resembles dysentery (or similar) in my opinion, so I made it more punishing. there was no mention of Pneumonia, but I feel like getting to this stage should be more severe. Food poisoning is rare enough, so it's also more punishing.

regarding the Midwife modifier: if there are multiple Vestal Virgins, I will make it so one of them will have to take on a Medicine career, so that I even have a midwife.

on the basis of THS, I divide my sims into four groups: Sickly, Weak, Average, Healthy. the Sickly get a whole special treatment, adapted from The Sick Child ROS in 12Raben's post. the health category also affects the outcomes of some events - I will have to test it, of course, to see if it's viable.

the main reason for adopting this combination (ROS + health system) is that predestined deaths at a certain age don't do it for me, either. I don't like coming up with the reason for someone's death unless it's obvious. this way, health will be dealt with its own module, and random accidents with their own.
