[ID: Various digital doodles mostly featuring Reigen Arataka and Serizawa Katsuya from Mob Psycho 100. The 1st is a parody of the "Wow Fluttershy, did you eat my Forever Weed Brownie?" comic, redrawn to feature Reigen as Pinkie Pie and Serizawa as Fluttershy. The next image is a doodle compilation of Serizawa, showing him with different expressions and poses. Similarly, the next artwork consists of Reigen expression and pose doodles, with some cameos from Mob, Tome, and Teruki. Finally, the last image is a short comic featuring the artist and a friend. First two panels show them watching a random MP100 scene, which is then followed by the friend stating, "I would NOT let Reigen preform brain surgery on me", to which the artist bursts out laughing from the absurdness. The next comic has the artist saying, "Rip to you but if my girlfriend offered to preform brain surgery I would let him", which then causes the friend to throw both hands in the air with an exasperated, "Yeah 'cuz he's your WIFE!" so i might be working on an AU. and it might partially be inspired by all the different interpretations of dragon satoru i keep seeing. it might also be inspired by a one-off doujinshi about a god flirting with his shaman until he behaves. i will not confirm nor deny any of the above statements lest i am brought to testify in front a court of law

Comic Retrospective: Ghost Inn

What is it about?

Ghost Inn, to the surprise of absolutely no one, is about a haunted inn. One could also say it's about man's inhumanity to man, specifically regarding these two idiots:

When writing any comic, long or short, a key thing is to identify your main focus -- is it a message, a theme, a setting? Triforce of Power as a whole is about Ganondorf and Link (a buddy comedy of sorts), so every side comic needs to do something with them, like:

Exploring an aspect of their personalities

Looking at something new about them (while still staying in-character)

Playing with their weird dynamic

In this case, it was about how their lines of communication break down when faced with bizarre stressors. Like a ghost inn.

Main characters turning on each other, in a true horror story, would be played for horror. Here it is played for comedy. (And winds up being a little heartwarming in the end... kinda.)

Where did the idea come from?

If ideas are hard to come by, I sometimes take two topics, mash them together, and go from there. In this case, the two ideas were:

2. And the toilet ghost from Zelda games like Majora's Mask and Skyward Sword:

I just needed a setting in which both a creepy couple and ghost would be together. Hence, the inn!

But something interesting needs to happen regarding Ganondorf and Link, specifically. Which led to the question:

"How would each of them respond to a toilet ghost?"

And the story just kind of wrote itself from there.

Not all character-focused stories need to be about two characters that are so different -- but it does make it really easy to find points of conflict that can propel a story forward in an organic way.

Favorite things about it?

The entire comic being black, white, and red. It was so much fun to do and presented an interesting challenge, especially when it came to Ganondorf's magic.

It also has some of my favorite jokes -- not just for the bonus comics, but for everything ToP-related (including the entire main comic).

Would I make it again?

Basically, if I had the idea but had not completed the comic when I did... would I still make it, knowing what the outcome would be?

Yes. Definitely. Absolutely!

...Also, while rereading it for this post, this part stood out:

But is this story canon?

It could be. There's nothing in it that contradicts the main story, and there are a couple points in the storyline where it could fit. This is up to the reader, I think!

chainsaw man would've been better as a shojo, no i don't mean to add stereotypical heart thumping romance, but shojo is genre agnostic and has always been able to get away with weird shit. like fujimoto would be able to go more extreme with horror and violence in constructive ways, shojo is where horror prospers. he would also probably be able to dissect the nuclear arms analogy better too. but ig shonen jump is just too popular to not have your manga published with... i also feel this way about jjk. like i know i joke that gege should be writing BL romance, bit genuinely he would be able to explore gender and horror more expansively if he just wasn't with shonen jump...

what does kuroba do nowadays?? Also hello!!!! Wanted to also say that your art is just absolutely stunning!!! Fantastic work as always ^_^

HELLO!! THANK YOU SO MUCH??? 😭✨️ it makes me really happy to know that ppl enjoy my artwork, it means the world to me!!

as for what kuroba is up to : they're a florist in akatsuka and run their family's shop, yotsubana florals! it used to belong to their grandparents, chōji and madoka, but they took over day to day operations after their grandmother's passing and their grandfather having a nasty fall on the job. ( before that, they just helped around the shop as an assistant florist to their grandfather and a delivery driver. )

they adore flowers and making people happy through their arrangements so kuroba's very happy with their job despite how busy it can get. karamatsu is a regular loiter at the shop and does a lot to liven up their usual routine, too. he's goofy and kinda pathetic, but kuro finds him oddly endearing and appreciates that he'll listen to them talk about floriography so they enjoy having him around.

also, since i feel like i should mention it here, kuroba initially doesn't realize that karamatsu is the same guy that they had a crush on in their 2nd year of high school. he does seem familiar to them, but they aren't able to pinpoint exactly why until they attend their reunion and catch a glimpse of kara. they kinda spiral for a bit after finally remembering who he is. meanwhile, karamatsu doesn't make the connection even when kuroba reveals they went to the same high school, which ends up becoming a major point of tension in their relationship — especially when kuro's feelings start to resurface. ( to be fair to both of them, it probably would've been around 11 years since they were in the same class together and both of them have wildly different vibes now so them not remembering each other immediately is kinda understandable. )
