"okay kiddos," you begin, fixing the rim of your glasses back onto your face, a small grin tugging at your lips, "who can remind me what we started yesterday in math?"

multiple of the fourth graders' hand raise in the air, some impatient as they flailed their arms around, whilst some gently wagged their fingers, eager to get called on.

"hmm..." you hummed, squinting your eyes as you looked around the students, smiling as you pointed to a sandy blonde haired boy, "austin, what did we learn yesterday?"

"equivalent fractions!" austin says proudly, some groans sounding throughout the room as he puffed his chest, boasting at the opportunity of being picked.

"that's correct," you nod, turning around to face the board in front of you. "as we talked about yesterday, equivalent fractions represent the same portion of a whole, even though they look different."

"who can remind us of what example we used?" you ask again, eager hands raising in the air upon the hearing the question that tumbled out of your lips, "jaliyah, can you tell me what that example was?"

"a half of a domino's pizza!" jaliyah answers excitedly, folding her hands in front of her, "i love dominos."

some students let out a flurry of giggles, causing you to grin and shake your head playfully as you nod. "that's right, a half of the pie. a whole pizza is typically eight slices. but sometimes, you can get six slices. now, if i took away four slices from the eight slices, would that still make it even?"

"yes!" a flurry of students called at the same time, causing you to beam proudly.

"that's right, you guys!" you grin, erasing the contents from the board. you smoothed your skirt and walked over to your desk, picking up papers and readjusting your glasses. "now, i'm giving you guys practice work sheets to work on while i do roll and grade homework, okay?"

multiple hums and 'yes ma'ams' sounded throughout the classroom, then one student raises his hand. "yes, braedon?"

"may i pass out the papers, mrs. sturniolo?" he asks hopefully, and you chuckle and motion for him to come up to your desk.

"mrs. sturniolo, i have a question," another student named briley asks, her hands waving around excitedly.

"yes, briley?"

"you are married to chris sturniolo, so does that mean you're in the sturniolo triplets videos, too?"

the students perk up excitedly at this, awaiting your answer ━ it was no secret that alot of them were fans of your husband's youtube channel with his two brothers. being the husband of a famous youtuber caused a little bit of an uproar when you first started two years ago, but it's calmed down some; your fourth graders still got excited at the prospect, though.

you chuckled and fixed your glasses onto your nose. "well, it depends on the type of video they film. if it's a vlog, i will appear in certain ones. since we started off as friends in high school, i'm probably in alot of their older videos."

"so nostalgic," austin hums, shaking his head dramatically causing you to laugh.

"okay everyone, you need to get to work! i have to check them all by the time lunch rolls around, so get on it!" you remind them, and there's scattered nods and 'yes' as they quickly begin their assignment.

you folded the homework from last night and set them in front of you in a neat pile, prepared to start grading them. a low rumble of your stomach catches your attention though, causing a small gasp to leave your lips ━ when you looked around your desk, dread filled you up as you realized you had forgotten to make yourself something for lunch. a groan escapes your lips as you sift through the papers, until a buzz from your phone demands your attention.

you fixed your glasses and looked down to see a notification that your husband had texted you; a smile fixes its way onto your face as you open the message.

a smile makes it way onto your face, and you clear your throat, standing up to face your students. "one two three, eyes on me!"

"one two, eyes on you!" the students comply immediately.

"i have a surprise for you guys coming in before lunch," you announce to them, causing excited whispers to break out among the children, "but it'll only happen if you can get your worksheets done before lunch at 12:45!"

this sends the students into work mode ━ you'd never seen them be this productive, as usually there's a few who get either distracted or decide not to do any work. and you were easily able to finish grading last night's homework, even able to put in some new grades for them, as well. multiple students finished their worksheets and turned them into you in a neat pile on your desk.

the last paper was turned in at 12:10, five minutes chris was supposed to be arriving at your classroom. you smiled as you stacked the papers, setting them down next to your computer as you stood up from your desk, smoothing your skirt out as you grinned whilst checking your watch.

a knock on the classroom caught everyone's attention, their eyes immediately glued to the door as you slowly made your way towards it. when you opened your classroom door, your husband chris stood outside with a grin on his face, dark hair tucked messily under a black beanie with a brown and black plaid jacket on as he held chipotle up to you.

"hi, you," chris says, wriggling his eyebrows as he leans in to press a quick kiss to your lips.

you giggled, kissing him back as you smiled at him, taking the food. "thank you for coming, baby."

you could hear gasps coming from inside the classroom, as you stepped aside, looking at your students. "okay class, everyone say hello to mr. sturniolo!"

"chris!" multiple students gasp as your husband walks into the classroom, grinning and waving to the excited kids.

"what's up, guys? what're we learnin' today?" chris smiles, rubbing his hands together.

"we just learned about equivalent fractions!" someone shouts, and chris tsks, shaking his head as he looks over at you.

"i was never that good at math," he tells the class, causing you to giggle and nod your head, causing chris to put a hand on his heart feigning hurt, "she used to make fun of me because in high school i used copy her work all the time."

"mhm, he sure did!" you said, causing the students to giggle, "don't copy work off others, because you could get into trouble!"

"alright, now it's time for the real questions," chris says, rubbing his hands together again as he teasingly narrows his eyes at the kids, "whose you guys' favorite triplet?"

"you!" some shout, and chris raises his fist in the air, causing you to roll your eyes and laugh.

"matt's my favorite!" jaliyah boasts, folding her arms in front of her proudly.

"you wound me," chris sighs, shaking his head, "matt is everyone's favorite."

"he wasn't my favorite ━ you were mine," you told chris, wriggling your eyebrows at him as you kissed his cheek.

"you just have to say that because you're my wife," chris jokes, pretending to wipe a tear from his eye, causing you to giggle at him. "but luckily, you were my favorite, too."

chris kisses you on the lips quickly, some students pretending to gag whilst some of the girls in the class swooned. "ew gross, they're in love!"

"austin, you're gonna feel the same way about your future wife someday," you tell him teasingly, raising an eyebrow as he gags.

"ew, i'm not gonna have a wife! and i definitely don't have a crush!" austin says, his cheeks reddeningly.

"that's a lie, austin likes jaliyah!" briley shouted, causing gasps to sound throughout the classroom, as everyone's sent into a frenzy.

"what?!"

as fingers are being pointed accusingly, you and your husband share familiar expressions as you examine their reactions ━ austin's denying the accusation, yet his cheeks are stained scarlet as he keeps sending glances jaliyah's way. jaliyah is mostly silent the whole time, but she looks as if she's thinking. it makes you smile ━ in a way, you'd always felt those two students might've had minor crushes on each other; it reminded you of you and chris's crush on each other in freshman year.

"okay one two three, eyes on me!" you said loudly, clapping as you finally caught your students' attention.

"one two, eyes on you!" they responded, still some scattered whispers.

"okay kiddos, mr. sturniolo needs to return, and i need to dismiss you all for lunch," you tell them, some letting out sounds of disappointment. "what do we say to mr. sturniolo for coming in today?"

"thank you, chris!" the students shout excitedly, waving at him as he bows playfully.

"thank you guys for having me," chris tells them, walking over and bringing you in for a quick hug. he kisses your cheek once more, whispering in your ear, "i'll see you later on, ma."

your cheeks heat up as he pulls away and winks at you, beginning to walk out of the classroom ━ he waves to your students, blowing you a kiss. you blow one back before he walks out completely, and you smile and shake your head.

pretty soon, it's time to dismiss the kids for lunch ━ you instruct them to line up in a single file until the bell rings. when it rings, they're quick to bound out of the classroom, still chatting excitedly about meeting chris.

jaliyah hangs back though, and she walks back into the classroom, shyly walking up to your desk.

"mrs. sturniolo, may i ask you something?" she asks you, not quite meeting your eyes as she toys with one of her braids.

"absolutely sweetheart, what's up?" you say, setting your lunch aside.

"um...how do you know if you like someone back?" she asks quietly, looking up at you.

a soft smile is on your face, as you fix your glasses onto your nose. "well, if this person makes your tummy flutter or if you always feel happy but nervous around them, that's one way to tell. if you think of them as more than wanting to be their friend, that's also how you can tell."

a small smile finds its way onto jaliyah's face, causing your smile to widen. "does this person make you feel any of these things?"

"mhm," jaliyah admits, her cheeks heating up.

"then i think you should tell them!" you advise, "who knows? they might feel the same way about you."

she thinks about it for a second, before perking up as she grins at you. "thank you, mrs. sturniolo."

"of course," you say, motioning to the door, "now hurry so you can eat something."

she nods and bounds out of the classroom happily, and you look after her ━ you chuckle as you think about the day chris finally had the courage to tell you about his feelings for you. young love; it always made you feel the happiest inside.

can you PLEASE explain how you make your bots?? they’re AMAZING. I need to knowww

yes !! i am not great at explaining things, but i did the best i could !! here is a detailed post on how i make them :) let me know if you have any questions or need help.

ᡣ𐭩 for the picture, i find a picture i like on pinterest and crop it how i want. then i go on picsart and canva to edit the picture how i like—i use the blurring filters on picsart and the aero filter on canva sometimes !!

ᡣ𐭩 as for the greeting, i try to keep it short and sweet yet packed with important information about the dynamic between user and the bot along with a scenario and setting of where user and the bot are.

ᡣ𐭩 for the description of the bot, i write in first person (i, me, my, etc.). this is where i mention their race, eye color, hair color, height, age, and a few personality traits. make sure you speak in simple terms !! it is a lot easier for the ai to understand. for example, don’t say ‘not friendly,’ say ‘unfriendly.’

ᡣ𐭩 to use as reference, this is what the description box of my rapper!chris bots look like:

ᡣ𐭩 the definition is the most important part of making your bot !! this will determine the way the bot acts, the way it responds, and how it speaks.

ᡣ𐭩 in the definition section, i solely only have the bot talk about itself, i don’t use the user dialogue. i write the definition in third person, writing actions and words. i make the bot speak how i want it to, for example, my rapper!chris bot tends to abbreviate words (ex. i am from=m’from or i don’t=ion).

ᡣ𐭩 when the bot speaks about things, i make sure to have it’s actions show how it feels about what it is talking about. for example, if a bot has a bad experience with it’s family, this is how i would write it (using matt’s name as an example): {{char}}: “i don’t really talk much about my family, there’s not much to talk about,” matt mutters, crossing his arms over his chest in a guarded manner, his eyes avoiding yours as a wave of uneasiness and melancholy washes over him.

ᡣ𐭩 in the definition section, i write about the bot’s backstory and traits. where they live, their job, their interests, the dynamic of it and the user, more of their personality, their family, etc. while also showing how they feel about these things with actions.

ᡣ𐭩 though the definition section has a maximum of 32k characters, the bot actually does not remember anything past 3.2k characters. exceeding largely over this limit will cause your bot to forget anything written past the 3.2k mark, so try to keep things short to get more information packed into your bot.

ᡣ𐭩 in the definition section, when the bot speaks about the user, substitute the name as: {{user}}

ᡣ𐭩 basically in the definition box, i act as if the bot is being interviewed about its life and asked questions with no outside dialogue, i only have the bot speak in this section !!

What Donald Trump did on Friday should make the hair on the back of your neck stand on end. Trump literally fabricated evidence in an effort to keep Ábrego García in a prison in El Salvador. You must understand that Trump would do that very thing to imprison anyone he wants to “disappear” --including you or your family. I can say that with 100% confidence because Trump is following the fascist playbook and that is what they have long done to critics or anyone else they simply want to make vanish. This is where we are as a nation. We have all seen Trump lie to support his claims. But the way his regime has defended the unconstitutional deportation of García means we have entered a new and far more dangerous for all of us. And I’m not talking about a “constitutional crisis,” I mean far worse. It began a few weeks ago with Trump and his regime claiming García was a “convicted” member MS-13 despite García never having been charged with any crimes since he came to the U.S. in 2011—let alone convicted. However, as we know, facts don’t matter to convicted felon Trump. So when the courts including the U.S. Supreme Court ordered that the corrupt Trump regime should “facilitate” García’s return to the U.S. because they failed to provide “due process,” they began to escalate their lies because it plays well with the MAGA base. Soon we had Attorney General Pam Bondi on Fox News claiming that García was “one of the top MS-13 members" and "a terrorist." Yes, she called him a terrorist as did others in Trump world. Then on Friday, Trump did something we never saw before from a US President. He posted a clearly fabricated photo of García’s hand with a tattoo on it that reads, “MS-13.” Trump wrote on the social media post accompanying that photo, “This is the hand of the man that the Democrats feel should be brought back to the United States, because he is such “a fine and innocent person.” Trump then added to make sure people looked closely at the photo, “They said he is not a member of MS-13, even though he’s got MS-13 tattooed onto his knuckles…” You can see the post below.

That photo is a fake. It’s a phony. It’s made up. Garcia does not have a tattoo that literally reads MS-13 on his hand as Trump wrote and his fabricated photo depict. If he did, the very first piece of evidence the Trump regime would have cited in this several week episode would have been that. It would have been the defining image of this case. And every Republican and Trump official would have been citing that tattoo in the media.

Backing that up are photos of García’s hand when he met Sen. Chris Van Hollen two days ago that show no such tattoo on his hand. (For example, see photos below from journalist Matt Novak who is a reporter at Gizmodo)

And García’s own lawyer on CNN Friday night confirmed he has no such tattoo. This should be bone-chilling. Trump has now fully embraced the dictator playbook be it people from the past like Hitler and Chile’s Pinochet to more contemporary figures like Saudi Arabia’s MBS and Trump’s close ally Vladimir Putin. They all have utilized trumped up charges and fabricated evidence in support of disappearing people they wanted gone. And it’s 100% what Trump is doing now.

When you have a crush on someone you notice every single detail about them. No matter how small it may be. For example, the way they frown unintentionally while looking at things when conflicted.

"Which one should I get for Nick?" Gabby turns to face Chris holding two different shades of red hair dye. "I feel like he's more this red but..." She starts to think more about it.

Chris shakes his head to focus on what she asked, "Why don't you just ask him when he finds us over here? Him and Matt just went to get chips."

She huffs giving him a look, "I'm trying to help out here. Plus we're the ones helping him dye his hair tonight."

"I know we are but just wait for him."

"I know we are but just wait for him." She mocks him so he wraps his arms around her to shake her around.

"Don't be a little shit." He makes her laugh.

"But that's my job." She turns herself around to face him and wraps her arms around his waist, "It's a full time one at that too." She looks up at him. There wasn't a huge height difference between them. It was only like a three or four inch difference. Which Chris thought was perfect for him. 

"You aren't getting paid though." 

"Wanna bet? Anytime one of you calls your mom or talks to her to complain about me, she gives me a dollar. Many ones added together make a lot over the years." Gabby lets him know.

"You're fucking with me." He didn't believe her.

"Ask her and then you'll know I'm not." She moves her arms to pinch his cheeks then squishes hs face, "Little baby."

Chris slaps her hands away to do the same to her, "No, that's you. You were born a few hours after us."

"Chris you know she hates that." Matt tells him as him and Nick find the two.

While Gabby and Nick try to figure out which red to go with, Chris watches how Matt stands so close to Gabby even though he wasn't part of the conversation. He turns his back towards the three to roll his eyes about it before facing them again.

"Okay, this one it is!" Gabby and Nick settle on which one, "Now let's go." She walks off first just wanted to get this over with.

Back at Gabby's house they don't automatically start on Nick's hair because they had to help her mom clean up a bit with boxes all around the house. They just recently moved into a new place and still haven't finished unboxing. 

"Chris go." Nick lets him know he was recording.

"Alright, it's recycle time." Chris puts his phone away then rushes over to an empty cardboard box jumping onto it which causes it to slide and him fall to the floor.

Gabby gasps covering her mouth with her hands quickly, "Oh my god! Are you okay?" She asks as he groans on the floor.

"Oww." He whines before getting up to stomp on another box.

"Not that..." Gabby tried to stop him but it was too late, "One." She sighs.

"Why is there con-," Nick starts.

"What the fuck?!" Chris shouts.

"I should've spoken sooner." Gabby shakes her head at herself.

"Now we have to clean that."

"I'll clean it so you move." Gabby goes over telling Chris to move so he goes to jump onto another box.

As she cleans up Matt comes back seeing all the chaos Chris was doing, "That's how you know he's the youngest out of us three." He goes to help Gabby.

"There's lots of signs." She laughs, "You're the only one actually really helping why?" She gives Matt a look.

"Because I want to keep being your mom's favorite obviously."

Gabby rolls her eyes while smiling a bit, "You've been her favorite son since we were ten. Before that it was Chris."

Still crushing empty boxes, Chris looks over at the two before picking up a box throwing it at Matt, "Here's another for you." He gives him a smile.

An hour passes before they all start on Nick's hair, "This is so bonding of me and you Chris." Nick says as Chris shaves the back of his neck so they could dye his hair.

"I know right." Chris agrees with him.

"Oh my God." Matt laughs at Nick as he holds his hair back for Chris to put the Vaseline around his hairline.

"I look like a wet alien."

"You look like you're sweating balls." Gabby adds so they all laugh.

"A grandpa hairline." Matt laughs so Nick snaps his head towards him with a straight face.

"Matt."

"You have to cover it all." Gabby tells Chris as he reads the hair dye bottle.

"Leave it for 30 minutes." He reads then looks at her not thinking that was right.

"Yeah, do you not know that?" She asks him.

"What's first?"

She laughs at him a bit, "Just follow the instructions."

"I am."

"Sure about that?" She laughs more.

"Should we really be letting Chris help out?" Matt asks the other two.

"I'm starting to second guess it." Nick tells him so Chris rolls his eyes saying he can do it.

"It will wash off." Gabby tells Nick, who was worried about the dye getting on his skin. "You're okay."

"It's just cause there's not a lot of hair back there." Matt moves to film the back of his head.

"There's just not a lot of hair back here to dye." Chris repeats to confirm Matt was telling the truth, "So. So it just looks messy in the back."

"Turn your head." Gabby tells Nick so he does as he goes on to tell the story of water coming out of his ear in the morning. "Take your time, dude." She tells Chris as she holds Nick's ear out of his way. "Is it an infection?" She then asks Nick about his ear.

"I was scared, I didn't know." He tells her before they move around to finish up. "Chris, be careful." Nick tells him as he works on the front now. "Be so careful, please." He tells him as Matt goes to grab Chris's ass.

"Matt." Chris says his name.

"Matt don't poke Chris's ass." Nick tells him as well.

"You and asses, dude. Mainly his ass." Gabby laughs shaking her head at him getting the bag ready to put on Nick's head.

"Look how goofy you look." Matt tells Nick, once the bag is on his head. "Gabs, are you setting your timer?"He asks her.

"I am." She lets him know.

"Okay."

Once the timer was over Gabby lets Nick know not to wash his hair. "Just rise with cold water." Matt adds.

"Ugh, I don't wanna take a cold shower." Nick groans before going towards the shower and the other three leave the bathroom.

Since it shouldn't take him super long, the three just wait outside the door. Chris jokes he'll look like a clown so Gabby tells him no since the base hair color was dark and not light. He of course starts to play bicker with her and Matt just watches the two not planning on jumping in.

"You know, Gabs bathroom is probably blood red now." Matt jokes about the dye being everywhere.

"Let's hope not." She backhandes his chest.

"It's really red." Nick says on the other side of the door.

"Just open the door." Chris tells him so Nick finally opens the door to show them and viewers.

"The back of my head is still brown." Nick turns around for them to see.

"It's not brown at all, dude." Gabby looks, "The sides are a bit tho." She sees.

"Look, my roots are still brown. You guys did awful." Nick shows them more.

"Hey, Chris did the front." Gabby didn't want any blame on her.

"Hold on." Nick opens the door to the shower and toilet, "I had to use this to clean the wall while I was in the shower." He shows them a once white rag that is now pink. "I-I was trying to be smart about it." Nick walks back to them so Gabby backs into Matt.

"Sorry." She apologizes as his places his hand on her hip for a second to apologize too before he steps back to make more room.

"I was hopeful I wouldn't make the entire bathroom red." Nick laughs telling Gabby.

"Oh, you get the bed tonight." Gabby tells Nick as they all hangout in the kitchen getting snacks, "Also my mom said..." She gets cut off mid sentence.

"What about me?" Matt turns to look at her and Nick while closing the fridge.

"You lost that right a year ago." Nick tells him so Gabby and Chris laugh, "Right it's been a year?" Nick asks not remembering.

I definitely do not like the style where his hair/bangs look frayed as if he was shocked by electricity. His hair appears thin and dyed. The feathered look in some season 1 episodes where attractive, but he ki d of looked like he he was boy band fanboy.

They did an injustice to Gillian with the short cuts. I do like the longer styles for her face. Not the overly styled of the curl under at the ends because it widened her face. I don't mean this in a mean way, but it's kinda the only way I know to describe her shape face, but her shape face reminds me of a horse face, so longer hair seems to work best on her. I don't think she looks like a horse. The helmet hair (season 7? 8?) was yuck. How much hair spray did they use on her? A can a day. Nothing would move that hair.

Worse of all- the revival wig and Mulder's hair.

Dana Scully's Hairstyles, an Overview

The answer, I believe, is tied up with personal taste. They've both had great and not-so-great cuts through the years, though Seasons 4 and 5 are generally cited as the best styles. My preference is Scully's hair in Hungry and Mulder's hair in The Unnatural or I Want to Believe; but all of them work in some manner or form (except Season 2's depression buzz cuts/bangs, Season 7's shorn sheep, and Season 10's droop-and-coif.)

FORWARD-PROJECTION VS. DOWNWARD DRAG

Because of her particular longish and delicate angles, she does well with facial-framing layers and bangs (but then again, that's probably because GA's a Kibbe Theatrical Romantic, post here.) Long, unbroken lines exaggerate her proportions by "dragging" her face down visually, unduly accentuating the width in her cheekbones and jaw (bringing out the "squirrel cheeks" when she was younger and the sharper angles of her cheekbones as she ages)-- in effect, giving her an exaggerated Mr. Incredible chin.

For example: these are two of Scully's worst hairstyles, yet we can see the principle holding fast. (Note: since both photos blur out crow's feet or wrinkles, the difference of 10 or 15 years becomes negligible.) Season 7's hair draws our eye upward towards her temple and out: not the best, and certainly overwhelming to her smaller features. Season 10's, however, creates volume exclusively at the widest, lowest points of GA's face-- her cheeks and jaw-- and make it appear more broad and square than it actually is. (It and her accentuated makeup also tricks our eyes into dragging Gillian's eyes further down at the corners.)

Sidenote: Scully's Season 3 hair achieves the same effect as S10's wig-- but more successfully, because it includes framing bangs and layers up to the forehead, as well.

With longer hair, Gillian has two techniques she usually always employs: cutting in layers, or keeping her un-layered hair up or away from her face. (She also usually styles her hair with volume at the roots, but it's not something she necessarily "needs.")

Which is smart, because too straight of a line down her cheeks and jaws-- as mentioned above with S10's wig-- closes her face in and off-sets her proportions to a noticeable degree (one she probably doesn't care for, unless in fashion.)

Comparing the two techniques (okay vs. great)--

--illustrates the differences a little more clearly.

With shorter styles, Gillian still keeps the layers. (Even Season 8-- where her hair is beginning to grow longer-- Scully still has "depth" cut into it.)

The differences between Scully's hair in the Pilot and the cut afterward are an interesting study: longer, unbroken lines "overpower" her smaller or rounder features while framing allows her face to appear as if it's projecting forward-- i.e. the "horse face" effect you noticed.

(To Chris Carter's credit, he was the one who spotted this visual immediately, recommending that GA chop her longish hair after the Pilot and style it "old Hollywood." There was method to his mad suggestion.)

Season 9 and IWTB are where we see the long, unbroken lines bringing out more of her rounder cheeks (amplified by mock- and traditional turtlenecks)--

GILLIAN'S INFLUENCE ON SCULLY'S FASHION

I did find it interesting that it was GA who took Scully's fashion into her own hands in Season 6, and again in Season 10:

During the original series, I had paid not a lick of attention to her style.  I had known that I wanted her to be homely, because I was determined to be a real actress who didn’t care about vanity.  But little did I realise that my lack of awareness would lead to years of bad hair and polyester suits.  To be fair, the show’s costume girl was great and was simply pulling outfits from what was on offer in the mid-Nineties: fabrics that I can’t even think of without shivers running up my spine; double-breasted suits and shoulder pads as big as a house.  Scully’s taste got better as the seasons went on, but it wasn’t really until the sixth season when we moved down to Los Angeles and a new team came on board, that I was forced to address the issue, head-on.  New, hipper clothes and a slicker haircut for Scully.  Even a leather coat, here and there.

This time around... I worked much more actively with The X-Files wardrobe designer Chris Hargadon to hone Scully’s style.  I had worked with Chris on Hannibal, in which he got to express his creative genius through Hannibal’s fine tailoring.  Our squarish FBI agents were perhaps not quite so fun to dress, yet it was essential to precisely define their typical wardrobes. So Scully is still a bit homely but with a  taste for fabric and colour, more cotton than silk, no zips as accent, nothing too fitted, no patterns.

So, the Scully we see post-California relocation is the Scully that Gillian herself designed. A bit of a head scratcher, especially when I remember her Season 7 hair. But at least she agreed that the Revival's wig for Season 10 was bad (also, that it gave her a headache.)

i like how deadpool and wolverine was able to work with audiences’ associations of actors + characters.

it’s not something that can really be done with comics, where between changing artists (or just each artist’s evolving style/human inconsistency), so many characters having the same base design (eg how almost all the robins, bruce wayne, and clark kent are just White Guy With Short Black Hair and Strong Jaw), and the same distinctive costume getting passed around to various characters (eg the captains america).

if you want a comic reader to know who a character is, you almost always have to explicitly introduce them, or else it could be damn near anyone under all the layers of ambiguity listed above.

with movies/tv though, aside from a few recasts, actors’ faces aren’t subject to nearly the same degree of variance that a drawn character is, so if an audience member recognizes the actor from a previous film, they automatically know the character on the screen. any explicit introduction of a returning character is for the more casual viewer but usually isn’t necessary as long as the character’s basics are established up front.* the smaller, contained scale of established movie/tv show canon compared to the amorphous behemoth that is comics canon helps a lot as well.

this means reintroductions are short and sweet, if present at all (and in this film can be explained easily by dp’s fellow fanboy enthusiasm when necessary, rather than just the writers blatantly using him as a mouthpiece), and simply the face of a returning actor affords a ton of depth to a character that couldn’t be developed in this installment. it doubles as a way to devote more time to other things in the movie and a way to reward returning viewers.

DP+W SPOILERS BELOW THE CUT

*in dp+w, seasoned viewers recognize pyro from X2, but we also get a refresher of his deal, both new (his allegiance in the void) and old (he has fire powers), so while his trajectory is a bit more clear with the wider context from X2, nothing he does is totally out of left field/unsupported by the text in this film.

so, while previous marvel movies have taken advantage of this shortcut to reduce weighing down the runtime with exposition, dp+w also snatched the golden opportunity to play a prank on the audience with it which i adored.

see, while there have been many cases of the same character being recast with different actors during marvel’s long run, very rarely was there one actor who played two DIFFERENT (major)** characters.***

**looking at you, stan lee.

***the only other example i can think of atm is oscar isaac, but he was basically unrecognizable under all the makeup and costume for apocalypse, so this trick wouldn’t have really worked with him anyway. hence “golden opportunity.”

so when chris evans’s cloaked form strode onscreen, audiences (and deadpool) were already well familiar with the cameo game and reasonably assumed he’d be reprising his more recent, more popular marvel role of steve rogers, only for the rug to be pulled out from underneath them at the fateful “flame on!”

not that there weren’t hints, of course (ie evans’s hair its natural brown rather than rogers’s more blond, the uncharacteristic taunt of “dick-for-brains” that even caught dp a little off guard, not to mention the total lack of signs outside the movie that evans and rogers would be returning to the mcu, or the illogic of doing so in a movie about deadpool and wolverine of all things), but the filmmakers know their audience and their expectations very well, resulting in what i found to be a hilarious and effective bait & switch. it was also, in my opinion, a much better direction to take the movie.

instead of nonsensically reviving such a central character that has already been given a complete arc almost as an aside in this movie that had little to do with him in the first place, they brought back a relic of movies left unfinished, remembered fondly but distantly (if at all) under the barrage of newer, flashier franchises. AND they did this knowing the old fantastic four films would soon be replaced (again), so it’s not like this johnny was ever gonna stick around. this was simply a lovely homage — a bid not to forget that we cared for those movies, too, and they’re still important to us even when the story gets rebooted.

instead of doing the same mcu bullshit we’ve grown tired of, they fed another line back to a central thesis of the movie: dying timelines (old, discontinued films) who have lost their anchor being (popular interest, production, etc.) shouldn’t be cut short (forgotten, discarded, disregarded) just because they’re not the prime timeline; there are still people living there (fans and creators caring about them) and value to be found in them.

and they were able to execute it in such an exciting, funny, and memorable way because of this connection between actors and characters that doesn’t exist in comics.

I’ve decided to just use this part to explain the band “Ride Or Die” lol

“Ride or Die” is a punk-rock band consisting of Clarisse, Beckendorf, Silena, Connor, and Travis. They started playing during highschool, but didn’t get famous until their sophomore year at college. A year later, they got a record deal at Lyre Records.

CLARISSE;

-The lead singer.

-Like, she might not be the nicest person ever, but her vocals are FIRE

-Was actually taught to sing to classical music, but when she was 13, she discovered Punk-Rock, and she’s never looked back.

-The red bandana is her brand. Even in fancy parties she’ll somehow have it incorporated into her outfit.

- Has several thirst-traps of her and beckendorf circling around social media.

- Her voice is so growly and shouty, but her vibrato makes it to where-UGH she’s so good.

- Shes currently dating a cameraman named Chris.

- Shes known Silena ever since 4th grade, so they’re really tight knit.

-To the point where all their fans think they’re dating lmao.

BECKENDORF;

- He’s basically the main vocalist too?

-Clarisse and him sing background for each other, and they switch who sings songs all the time.

“The festival in Hyde Park is so huge,” says Changbin, who writes and produces for the group and is known for his lightning-fast rap verses. “I cannot wait to see the reaction of the fans, and how the Stay in London are going to welcome me.” 

“It’s been so long since we have been in London,” says HAN, who during the group interview slouches in a relaxed pose with his mass of tousled messy hair covering his eyes. Even though his slight frame is sliding further and further down his chair, he pipes up every now and then to add his opinion. “Being there [in London] is something I am really looking forward to, but also the festival which we’re going to perform is such a huge event for me,” he says.

Lee Know plans to revisit some London landmarks after he came to the UK capital on his own in May. “I went briefly for the Gucci show in London, and I saw Big Ben during the nighttime and I was very struck by it,” he tells me in a softly spoken voice. “So, I want to see it again, and also want to visit London deeply.” He confesses there wasn’t time for much else on his recent visit apart from a session in the hotel gym, which at least had a decent view.

Non-Stay readers will have noticed Stray Kids popping up with more frequency of late as the group embed themselves as a global household name. Last year, they performed ‘S-Class’ at the VMAs (also picking up an award on the night in the process), and were spotted hanging out with Dua Lipa, Anne Hathaway and Paul Mescal at fashion shows in London, Paris and Milan. In a fairly bleak music landscape, K-pop groups like Stray Kids let us revisit the halcyon days of 90s and 00s high-energy MTV, with all the big-budget technicolour music videos and huge world tours that came with that defining era.

Not content with the mortal realm, SKZ even made inroads into the Marvel Cinematic Universe when the group’s music was featured on the Deadpool & Wolverine soundtrack. Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds returned the favour by featuring in SKZ’s music video for ‘Chk Chk Boom’. And then there was that novel interaction with former Avenger Chris Hemsworth when he ran into the group at the MET Gala in NYC and proceeded to physically lift several band members off the ground. “I just picked them up, gave them cuddles,” Hemsworth said of the moment. “I love them. They were just a bundle of energy and joy, and I was like, ‘I love you guys.’”

“The last person that Chris picked up was me and after that, he gave up: ‘Gotta stop now; he’s heavier than my hammer,’” quips Changbin. As the buffest member of Stray Kids, the group often joke about his physique.

Despite the group constantly orbiting the earth for various obligations that are carefully scheduled down to the minute, music remains the beating heart of Stray Kids. Masterminding creative concepts for each album, they are sextuple threats who can sing, dance, rap, choreograph, write and produce their own music — all skills that have been rigorously honed and sharpened by the unforgiving K-pop trainee system. Officially, the octet is split into three sub-units called ‘RACHAs’. 3RACHA, consisting of Bang Chan, Changbin and HAN, takes care of most of the writing and production; DANCERACHA, comprising Lee Know, Felix and Hyunjin, takes on choreography duties; and VOCALRACHA is made up of Seungmin and I.N, the designated lead singers. (There are unofficial units bestowed by the fans, including the affectionately named ‘PABORACHA’ — ‘pabo’ means dumb or foolish in Korean — whose esteemed members are Hyunjin, HAN and Lee Know, known for their chaotic and silly behaviour.)

RACHAs aside, band members’ roles can be quite fluid due to their multi-disciplinary training. Felix has co-written ‘Runners’, an English-language track on the new album, and Hyunjin wrote ‘Cover Me’ for their last EP, ROCK-STAR. It is entirely dependent on several, ever-changing factors.

Lee Know, for example, increasingly takes on more vocal roles in songs: “It’s always different according to what song we’re doing, and it depends on the schedules as well,” says Bang Chan. When it comes to songwriting, Bang Chan explains how if the group are on a tight schedule, they will gather beforehand and decide who does what. “Then, during our schedule, while we’re on the road and during our free time, then that’s when we get time to edit it,” he says. “So, it’s always different.”

Changbin adds, “When there is a tight schedule, everyone tries to do their own work. As for title tracks, three to four members have to meet up and do the work together. As far as individual work [goes], everyone can ask for help from other members.” Fans often witness the process when the band shares behind-the-scenes footage in the studio, with 3RACHA guiding members singing and rapping in the booth, meticulously tweaking their creations to make sure every element is just how they want it, collaborating on ideas and moulding the track as they go.

Felix explains that it’s a similar situation with the dance routines and concepts, “When it comes to performance, we always send our feedback about what we feel about the choreography, and we always try to match up to what is the best performance for this song. We talk about it with everyone too, as everyone is performing.”

Stray Kids’ sound has always been very experimental, spanning several genres, and ATE continues their sonic exploration. “It’s quite different to what we’ve done before, but we’re always open to new stuff,” says Bang Chan. As their mini album, ATE feels more grown-up, with the band having shed naivety from their lyrics. For instance, ‘I Like It’, an R&B track infused with trap-pop, explores the idea of a situationship: “I hope we don’t make a hasty mistake / Let’s take a long step back,” they sing. It’s a lyrically grey area that K-pop, which loves to deal in absolutes, doesn’t tackle often. ‘twilight’, written by HAN, slows things down, with a sparkling piano intro that sounds like it belongs in a Studio Ghibli film. The track cascades into a smooth, jazz, Bossa Nova style that examines the combustible nature of love, looking at what remains when an initial spark has burned too bright and been lost in a blaze of lustful glory, leaving only ashes behind.

The band’s bread and butter, though, lies in creating anthems, and both ‘MOUNTAINS’ and ‘Chk Chk Boom’ on this album fulfil that brief, with winding low electronic sounds and thundering choruses that are designed to be chanted back at them by the masses when they perform on stage.

Often the group will experiment with sound effects in their music. ‘ITEM’, a tune from their last album 5-Star, references the iconic Pac-Man video gamein its lyrics, and Bang Chan, Changbin and HAN played around with the production, lacing the song with retro arcade sounds. It has now become a popular track with the fanbase.

Following the popular K-Pop model at the moment of releasing new material almost biannually, Stray Kids won’t have time to dwell on this album for long. “We’re already working on new stuff,” explains Bang Chan.

I offer the idea of an acoustic album as something new for them to try, and the idea elicits a chorus of ‘oohs’ from them.

“That would be fun and another challenge for us,” says HAN, sitting up, his interest piqued.

“I would love it!” Seungmin pipes up enthusiastically, visibly animated at the prospect. “I play the guitar these days! I’m practising!”

“Too loud,” interjects Felix, jokingly. “When I am sleeping, I’m like ‘This guy!’ (Laughs) But he’s a good guitarist.”

“I would love to perform acoustically,” muses I.N, the combination of his mass of bleached blond hair and black turtleneck channelling Andy Warhol. The youngest member of the group has one condition, though: “I would love it to be an acoustic song that I myself wrote for the occasion. If I were to imagine a song with all the members, that we have already released, whilst I play the piano, it would be our song called ‘Stray Kids’ from the new album.” The song looks at their journey as a band and the legacy they are striving to achieve together.

The twin concepts of teamwork and togetherness are the bedrocks of SKZ. Their joint determination has been vital to their success. The gruelling trainee process, where wannabe pop stars train for upwards of 10 hours a day, six days a week for an indefinite period, comes with no guarantee that you will debut. This means that when a band does make it, they must be focused on their goals in order to maintain an upward trajectory.

Once debuting, it is customary for a group to live together. This makes life easier with their schedule, but it means that the members of SKZ are literally spending 24 hours a day with each other.

“It’s almost eight years since we started, and the trainee years, so it’s been almost a decade since I have been living with these people,” explains HAN candidly, not shying away from addressing the complex dynamics of a large group in such an intense environment. “Sometimes we have differences of opinions and sometimes we have conflicts, which is totally normal, but at first, I felt like they were my companions as they shared a dream and a goal to work together. Then that relationship turned more into friends that you keep for the rest of your life, and now it’s changing again. It’s almost brotherly [now]; they feel like blood [relatives], and when we’re together, it feels like it’s obvious to stay together. Ashley Brown: Hogwarts AU

Ashley Brown is a Muggleborn witch that was born on the 20th of July 1988 and started attending Hogwarts on the 1st of September 1999, being sorted into Ravenclaw House.

She has a Black Walnut wand with a Unicorn Hair core.

Her Patronus is non-corporeal.

Ashley is described by her fellow Ravenclaws as academic, inquisitive, and forthright. According to her closest friends, she loves books, dislikes horror movies, and dreams of being an author.

Ashley generally seems to be friendly and eager to be in the company of others; for example, she was among the first to accept Hannah's party invitation. However, after what happened during her fourth year, she's uncomfortable about being back at Hogwarts. Her attendance and actions throughout the year are partially motivated by her strong feelings toward her fellow Ravenclaw Chris, whom she has an unexpressed crush on. She is shown to be very observant as, when she finds clues like the faked newspapers, she's able to recognize their greater significance. However, she does have a tendency to let her imagination run away with her; while Chris is incredulous, Ashley is quick to believe in an apparent ghost she sees and also misunderstands the magnitude of Emily’s bite wound. Compared with some of her more loose and laid-back friends, Ashley is rather polite, serious, and even a little hesitant; she doesn't use profanity often like other group members and tends to follow the decisions of others.

According to Dr. Hill, Ashley's greatest fear is the dark, so when she returns to the dark castle during the bleak, autumn evening of September 1st, she's immediately more frightened than most of the others in the group. Her tendency to be meek and timid outlines her lack of self-confidence, and as the year progresses she becomes increasingly distressed and scared by the life-threatening and seemingly supernatural events taking place around her. As such, she at times displays reluctance in looking for Sam when the latter goes missing, though Chris can usually convince her to continue and even show courage in the face of a potential threat. Still, when in actual danger, Ashley is not as quick on her feet as Mike or Emily. This is shown when she manages to cut the Psycho badly in the shoulder with a spell, but then fails to either follow up on this attack or escape.

Of all the protagonists, Ashley's personality can be shaped and effected the most throughout the year. While Ashley did partake in the prank against Hannah, she had the least involvement of the participants, being a mere onlooker. Afterwards, she has the most chances express regret about participating in the prank if the player so chooses. However, she was also a little dismissively and layed the blame with Hannah, claiming she overreacted. Additionally, depending on everyone's actions, Ashley can be shown to possess a vengeful streak. If Chris chose to curse her and save himself, she'll later refuse to let him into the Ravenclaw Common Room, leading to him being killed by a Vampire. However, if Chris is made to do the opposite, Ashley will wait attentively by the entrance to the common room for Chris to return and let him in just in time to save him.

1: some ppl give the superfamily different “abilities” instead of the typical kryptonian power set to separate them, besides Chris does the rest of the family have different powers? For example I can see Jon having super saiyan red/orange hair that can boost his heat vision or can create a mini sun to heal or boost his family’s power.

2: since Chris likes spider-man, does he ever “web swing” across the city using his dark powers? Plus tie up bad guys using the dark powers too? I can see him tying up bad guys by the feet upside down hanging from a lamp post and spinning them around XD

3: any thoughts of making the duo wear matching outfits with the starburst name/logo on the front?

4: does mar’i do the same stuff as Jake like in previous asks? Does slapstick like the three stooges, aims for the crotch on a 10, uses the Nightwing sticks, etc…

5: let’s say Kon/Tim is sleeping on the couch, what would they do as a prank? Draw on their face, fart on their face, put shaving cream on their hand and tickle their nose with something, belly flop on top of them, etc…

6: not a question but a fanfic idea: overusing the Nightwing entity causes Chris to act similar to Spider-Man while wearing the venom suit creating a meaner & maybe evil Chris; Jake and Chris battle it out in the rain with Chris brutally hurting Jake close to death. Right before he delivers the killing blow, Chris has flashbacks of him and Jake doing fun stuff, Chris at the last second takes back control and holds Jake and cries that he is sorry.

1. Well Conner canonically has what’s called Tactile Telekinesis which allows him to hold a whole variety of objects and items with his mind in mid air, Kara can also probably channel a bio electric aura around her for an extra layer protection against energy or even magic attacks even though it can mess around with her heat vision abilities and finally to say Mon El, he had the ability to detect points on either a humanoid body or on select architecture that he can use to either strike or climb up (akin to Karnak from the Inhumans). The sole one whose powers are somewhat either enhanced or a near copy of Clark’s power set is Jon.

2. More likely it’s Jake who uses his grappling hooks akin to swing Spidey style as his ability of flight isn’t as pronounced as his sister’s. Any flight he achieves has to have a running and dropping start to them; basically any short flight he gets being a sort of natural wing suit on him. Now as for Chris webbing up crooks of all sorts via the shadows on their legs, I can probably see that in addition to a sticky note left for the cops to pick up says crooks that reads “Bad Guy(s)” just like how his teacher Dick does it

3. While a certain possibility for very rare occasions like say an actual multiverse Crisus event, they wear enough blue on their individual outfits already and yet those respective splashes of burnt orange and yellow keep them distinct. So, matching outfits is possible but not entirely probable and necessary.

4. A little bit but she has her own tiny touches and takes things that distinguish her from her brother. Mainly shed lean more on sitcom snark and ‘high brow’ comedy akin to what Grandpa Alfred showed her (Probably shows including “Blackadder” and “Are You Being Served?”) as opposed to slapstick. For her combat prowess, less likely to go from hits below the belt but a tad bit more vicious in taking down villains and she primarily uses her starbolts and enhanced strength along with Tamaranean fighting styles her Mother taught her and back

Jake’s go to mischief technique in these cases is a trick her sister and him have learn from their Father since the latter was all too fond of doing it during his days at the circus; take a small marker and doodle of silly and funny drawings on any part of the sleeping person that’s sticks out of the blankets. Chris quickly picked up on it ever since he was about 8 and anytime either of them happened to be awake first thing in the morning can their respective Uncle for Jake and Big Brother for Chris are dead asleep, they’ll wake up later to find some ink on them. And it’s not just the faces either….let’s just say if they to wear socks that night, there’s a 50/50 chance that those socks would be off them and sure enough there’s some doodles there as well.

6. It’s certainly a tempting enough story arc I can see happening with a minor tweak or two. Mainly, it’s the Flamebird entity being tapped into by Thara Ak Var that tends on being the berserker of the two ancient deities due to its more appropriately firery nature as opposed to the more cold and dark Nightwing. That said, I see Chris losing control of his powers and temperament being a consequence of all of the Nightwing entity’s bearers since mere mortals, even Kryptonians, aren’t immune to the entity’s presence affecting their minds with continuous overuse overtime. So with that, Chris after the battle makes a vow to no longer solely rely on the Nightwing entity for emergencies during superhero fights. The entity itself understands this and even encourages Chris to find other ways to save the day of possible.

1. I'm really sitting here like man did I try anything new this year?? But uh, even moths get caught in avalanches maybe? Trying to write in that sort of mindset and circular narrative was different. In fact possibly trying to really figure out the differences between POV after writing Mahanon for so goshdarn long. For example Thorin is insane in that one, but also in Covet and Forget Together, Fili's POV tends to use a lot more repetition than Mahanon who is very prosaic and sparse even in his own head. He's straightforward in his thoughts, and Fili is a bit more poetic.

4. The Hobbit probably but runner up on Charmed

9. Probably Smoke in Your Eyes and Stars in Your Heart because I'd had the idea turning around in my head since 2016 and finally sat down and committed to writing it. It was hard though, because I had the shocking idea of writing it ~non-linear~ and nothing that makes you want to pull your hair out more than trying to keep track of which years went where. But also to be like a mediation on loyalty and love and what you do when duty and love are diametrically opposed but you're still trying to have it both ways. Plus I got to use a lot of weird history knowledge lmao. My favorite footnote was probably the one about the carrier pigeons in their little bra jackets because I think everyone should know about that. [for reference]

10. It feels really wrong somehow to say Covet, but it was Covet. That fic got me through some stuff this year and it got me chatting with some new people which I really appreciate.

16. I always have a lot of different songs for different verses, but one I listened to a lot for a couple different verses was Blood Upon the Snow by Hozier.

17. Cinnamon bears and mentos. These are not the good writing snacks lol but I always crave sugar for some reason.

18. I didn't actually write very many brand new fics this year but the Covet verse titles took me a hot second because I wanted them to have a really specific vibe and rhythm.

22. “I don't blame you,” Bofur said, and Fíli still hand his palm pressed against the back of Bofur's hand, shifting it so wrap around his wrist, where he could feel his pulse too, the warmth of the fragile skin there. Dwarrow skin was not so thin as human's, even there, but it was still a point of vulnerability, of weakness, and Bofur didn't even twitch when he put his hand there.

Fíli would have twitched, he thought distantly, remembering Thorin breaking the bones there, back before he realized how bad things would become.

“Don't you?” Fíli rasped.

“You aren't the one who locked the door,” Bofur said.

23. Okay so I'm not actually sharing a line from it lol but the beginning of chapter 20 of Covet was the worst scene to write. I'd write a few words and then be like... I don't want to write this. How can I write this without actually having to write it?? It took me for-freaking-ever.

24. ... Yeah Wyatt and Chris managed to destroy my entire timeline lmao. Like just, tear that up and toss it away and come up with something else lol. But then again, I tend to try and be pretty flexible to where stories are taking me, and only really drag them in one direction if I really, really have to. My hope is to not end up in a situation where I've already written the ending and then get too attached to it and fuck up my own plot trying to get there (like some people we can all probably name). My endings feel more like the center of a dart board and I'm just seeing how close I can get and have it make sense. Though Nori coming out with SO MANY strong feelings in Covet also threw me. Surprise, that bitch is gonna cause trouble for everyone now.

26. Chapter 19 of be careful what you wish for because you might get your way because as someone pointed out in the comments we'd all been waiting something like 4 years for that one lol. Also I spent so fucking long writing that one y'all, so long. That got way more attention than usual because after 4 years I wanted it to like. Work.

30. My goal is to finish Starlight from the Gutter which admittedly I did a bunch of work for this year, but still haven't gotten back to. So that ending is what I want to write most this year lol.

,The history of makeup goes back a long long way and different origins have different. Things that belong to them and their culture.

Which is now become a thing cultural appropriation like not being able to wear an Indian headdress.

, we have a new generation of keeping up with the Kardashians, and how they were constantly accused of it too..and other pop stars who have blatantly blackfaced themselves and stolen black culture from women more so than men, of the black. Community.

Everyone wants to be like them but they don’t want the race problems that go with it.

so then this is caused a lot of uproar in the community .some parts of it. but we seem to go on this eternal loop of, we wanted big butts and cushion made it look like everyone wanted big butts’ tiny waist and average size boots. Now people having ozempic shots crash diet kind of like flipping the 80s for the 90s if you will but they’re only going to four kind of loops. .Yeah we have fad diets again. And people removing their BBL’s. Iggy Azalea on the difference because Nicki Minaj is a black woman. Because I’m not a woman of colour I don’t have the same concept I guess as someone of that race obviously lol. So I can see why it would be offensive and Nikki and I feel cardi have ended up in fights about this. there's colorism in the black community big time.. even in Chris rocks comedy special on Netflix not long ago he spoke of how you’re gonna have a different kind of blacking existence if you’re a light skinned or dark skinned. if you're dark skinned, he he says... they'll be problems police etcetera. And if you’re mixed you can pass for colour, there’s a trend on TikTok were,, people dispute whether, Abraham Lincoln and Jane Mansfield,. Have been argued to be white passing., They even did a storyline on EastEnders recently with two sisters. One of dark skin. Not that much darker. and how she passed and how sad it was for the older sibling to see and it showed a racist adoptive step. Grandad or adoptive whatever and how she needed to share her hair. Like her father did and then they realized that’s why their black father was BALD.. which was hurtful for them to see which was hurtful for them to see. the younger daughter didn't get it as much. Because this culture has been passed in our face a lot it’s also not really these white girls fault. It’s something I like to call predictive programming. this is what starts fights

, even on clothes sites that it’s got a bit deeper into this whole issue, the models now have to have a really curvy bottom. And a tiny waist it’s been shoved down our throats for generations as women

Chris Andrade:

One of my most enduring memories from my ten years traveling the US was being in a dive bar somewhere in Ohio when a woman got all upset that her man had went into the bathroom, locked it, and that was half hour ago and he wasn’t answering and he had history of falling asleep on the toilet and passing out and she needed help and for the next twenty minutes every man in the bar gave it their best shot – some running and throwing their shoulder against the door, some with pool cues and other improvised pry-bars, some trying to pick the lock, some with absurd Rube Goldberg like schemes – finally, one of the guys got it open by taking the door off the frame using tools from his truck and after the guy inside was woken from his concoction-of-substances induced sleep, for the next two hours the man who opened the door strutted around like the cat’s meow. He was the hero of the night and everyone bought him free drinks and that dude was one proud dude, beaming, and recounting the story of how he opened the door to everyone, including me who heard it about four times, and each time he told it, it got more impressive.

The image sticks with me because it was both so comical and telling. This was one of the divey-est dive bars in the US, with a collection of intoxicated, high, and strung out customers that didn’t discriminate by race, gender, age, or faith. Every demographic of the US was represented, with the exception of the successful and the whole scene played out with a chaotic bluster – with each actor, when it was their time in the spotlight, entering with a swaggering bravado that soon collapsed in cartoon-ish ways – a humiliating slip and fall, a crushed finger, a yelp of pain, and so on and so on until the hero finally dismantled the door only to reveal a rail thin spiky haired man sprawled on the toilet who, when woken, walked directly to the bar with an oblivious grin, ordered another drink, confused over all the buzz around his release, but loving the attention, which he used to try and hit on a woman right in front of his woman, the one that had bothered to rescue his useless ass in the first place, who quickly jerked him out of the bar like a momma cat carrying their mischievous kitten.

Behind that humor though, is an example of behavior that I’ve seen across the US, from Wall Street to trap houses, and across the world from Amman to Uganda, which is that all men need to feel like the hero, if not over the course of their lifetime, then at least every now and then. They get an immense sense of worth if they are being valued, and appreciated, for rescuing, protecting, building, and solving.

While the need to feel important isn’t exclusive to men, the roles that give them the most satisfaction (generally sacrificing their body for the greater good), and how they respond if they don’t have those roles (anger, despair, vengeance), is very different from females.
