For as much as I've already gushed about how Journey to the West really stands out as a great work of literature, given the current state of popular "redemption arcs" it really can't be said enough how awesome it is that the og classic makes it impossible to ignore the various crimes of all the pilgrims and why they needed to go on a redemption journey in the first place.

Like it contrast to your typical broody jerks where the plot bends over backwards to pretend their various war crimes and all their victims don't matter, actually, just look at what JTTW gives us. You have a murder monkey who reminds us that he loves killing people every other chapter. You got a literal and metaphorical pig man who freely admits to eating a ton of people in addition to committing sexual harassment. You got a giant cannibal who also ate countless people and even wears a lot of their skulls as his own personal goth necklace. You got a dragon who may or may not have committed arson in addition to trying to eat at least one other guy. Even the holy monk went out of his way to get some guys tortured to death. They all explicitly suck in such fun and interesting ways even while trying their best, and THAT'S a good part of what makes their story so fun and satisfying to read.

Hey funny crack fic idea. Percy isn’t actually poseidons son. Poseidon looked at a demigod who killed a Minotaur, said hey. Why not pretend to be his dad, give him a blessing, and make him do all this stuff for him? (Yeah, I know it makes no sense, that’s why it’s just for shits and giggles)

Anyways, he tells Percy one day, probably after the battle of manhattan, and of course Percy is…distraught- doesn’t know what to do with himself. I mean, he didn’t like Poseidon anyway, but he’d just been lied to for years? Now he had no idea who his godly parent was, and he’d just been abandoned.

Anyways, word gets around camp, obviously, and Chiron and Mr.D are talking about it in the sunroom, playing pinochle and drinking soda. Mr.D gets curious and asks—“Whats Peter’s mom’s name anyway?”

“Oh, sally Jackson.” Chiron tells him, and Dionysus chokes on his Diet Coke. It couldn’t be, right? He tried to convince himself that wasn’t her name, that wasn’t the name of the woman he hooked up with on the beach, right? But he knew deep down it had to be. He’d been under the impression the woman was on control—but maybe because he was the god of fertility- she still got pregnant? and oh gods, HE WAS PERSEUS JACKSONS DAD!

Dionysus is just staring ahead all thousand yard stare like, Chiron is confused. And just watches as Dionysus slowly puts his head in his hands. He’d always felt weirdly attached to the kid. But then he was claimed by Poseidon, (in my mind Dionysus would never knowingly be a dead-beat, he just genuinely didn’t know percy was his son) so- Percy was definitely gonna meet a terrible fate, as a son of the big three. So he didn’t let him self grow attached. But now he understood why.

With a despaired sigh from Dionysus, across camp—a wine glass appears over percy Jackson’s head and grape vines grow into a sort of flower/grape crown around his head. Everyone is confused and absolutely shocked. Lots of conversations are gonna happen between Percy and Dio

You know, nobody tells you when you’re about to take the last photo of a friend. You’d open your eyes, if you knew. You wouldn’t care that you’d made one friend swap shoes with you because your feet hurt and you’re wearing his boots - who wears riding boots to a party?! - and making the other wear yours. and you wouldn’t say noooo don’t take a photo! You would take better care of it, wouldn’t stick it on the fridge, or the mirror, or let it get wet. But nobody tells you, before the last thing you do with a friend, and so this is the photo you get. This is the photo you keep: and because it’s a photo, maybe it’s better that you didn’t know, because this way - in something that later becomes a treasure - you all look so happy, and you wouldn’t, if you knew.

I started a new routine, and it's actually excellent!! 🥰

So, I've always struggled with exercising. It's boring and painful and sweaty and gross. It always made me feel more tired, not more awake, and I just hated it. But now, at the ripe ol' age of 30-ish, I've finally figured something out! And it genuinely feels good, so I'm recommending it here to anyone interested. 😊👍

First of all, DISCLAIMER: I have a stationary bike. This is what I primarily use. That's actually an important part of this, though if you have a treadmill or w/e, it'd probably work, too! Just something where you're not using your hands.

Secondly, I have resistance bands, though that's not AS important. But, the part where I mention them, I feel like they could be replaced with weights or something else hand/arm related.

Thirdly, I play games on PS5. This routine probably works so well because of that fact. Mobile players can also probably continue reading past this point, as can anyone who plays with a wireless controller, but mouse & keyboard players might just want to leave now... Sorry. 🙏💕

Anyways!

I've been dutifully doing my dailies on everything ever since I started playing Genshin Impact. Resin runs, teapot, expeditions, the works. I now play Wuthering Waves, Genshin, HSR, & Zenless (in that order)...

The order isn't necessarily important(???), but it helps. 😅

So, what does this have to do with exercise...?

Well!

First thing I do in the morning, after getting up and ready for the day, is make breakfast. I eat, watch a roughly 30min video with my wife while doing so, and that allows my food to settle. Then, I take my water/gatorade/drink of choice and my coffee over to my bike, which I have a little table next to, and boot up my Playstation.

This is where things start.

Basically, during my dailies, I ride my bike. My hands are free to hold & operate the controller while I go through the daily grind, and it really REALLY helps me to be relaxed during my ride, because the game is a big distraction from my discomforts in exercising! My dailies (through all 4 games) are also always about 1hr long, so it keeps my exercise time consistent and concise! But, there's some nuance...

See, I bring my coffee over with me because I prioritize drinking the whole thing while riding. Why? Because caffeine enters your body more thoroughly if ingested while or before being active! I oftentimes finish the whole thing first, then move on to my water, and after drinking coffee while riding my bike, I GENUINELY feel more energized, and I've cut my caffeine intake in half because of that fact! I even used to drink the whole coffee before or after and still felt tired, but during has helped A LOT!! But anyways...

I also mentioned prior that I use resistance bands to work out my arms... but how, if I'm gaming? Well, that's where HSR comes into play! I set the game to auto-battle and do reps of 15 for each set of 5 different exercises with my bands while it's going, only needing to briefly stop to click the "reapeat battle" button sometimes, or go into the menus to move onto a different/new material for progression... It honestly works like a charm, and I stay on the bike while doing so, so it's double the workout! 💪💪

Then, lastly, after I've done all my dailies, I tend to log out of Zenless, turn off my console, get off my bike/refill my water, and then do one or two chores around the house, using them as a replacement for a "cool down". Then I'll shower, get dried & dressed, and happily sit down after all that work feeling awake, productive, and refreshed! And it only takes ~2½ hrs.

So, to summarize:

cook & eat breakfast, rest for 30min

get coffee, get on leg-only exercise machine

drink coffee, THEN water, while exercising

exercise arms during HSR auto-battle

rest arms during Zenless, log off, turn off PS5

do a couple of chores, shower, & prosper!! 🌟

Obviously the games in question can be substituted for any other type of media, but I'm just hopeful my routine/ideas might resonate with someone else who's struggling with physical health & wellness!

why is otto telling the story of sunday's bird

i think overall wuwa did improve the story telling. My only beef is the story feels surface level still bc their lore isn't that good, the characters don't interlink, and they also like to show THEN tell which is just so counter productive pls have more faith in your players

Anyway, i think kuro really made sure to drive it home that the main conflict is that people in power will use the common folk's faith to further their own interests, rather than the usual oh religion is very bad plot. it's distinctly a struggle between mortals rather than a challenge to divinity, bc that is another convo only the player/rover are privy to. it is arguable whether the sentinel is truly a good god regarding how they dealt with the looming threat, but that doesn't matter in the context of how the order of the deep uses faith for control. in the end what they're doing is creating falsehoods, falsifying their own religion against the will of imperator, who would otherwise protect and oversee their own people if they could.

in the grand scheme of things, the truth doesn't exactly change much regarding the sentinel, bc while ppl were worshipping a false form, they still in essence worshipped imperator. the Antagonist isn't the 'apathetic' god (who isn't able to perform their duties ) but the order of the deep who took advantage of the fact. A classic human greed tale.

so far i adore Cristoforo for his bs philosophy monologue i just love characters who yap unprompted, and he had me at blond honestly but to take it a step further let's just say i like how he stays true to his role, embodying a playwright who furthers the story yet realizes that he's not a character himself so he steps back. and i think he rly doesn't care either way how the story ends, i think he genuinely gave ciaccona an insight by telling her abt his bird analogy, bc that's the realistic result of her action. it's more of a push for her to finally stop running away and face her fear, whether she does or not doesn't impact his desired ending, bc that is in actually whatever ending is reached (not exactly the case for the fractsidus). i hope phrolova gets more screen time, cuz im intrested in understanding her contrasting philosophy.

My fav playable character ended up being pheobe, I was afraid kuro was going to pull the "actually, the thernodian was the sentinel all along, everyone worshipped the incarnation of evil all these years" which is a classic but uninspired way to break her faith, it feels edgy and a disservice to her character. I don’t mind religious trauma but I generally don’t think religious characters are written well, nor are their conflicts , but pheobe was an exception. When she was faced with the fabrications in her religion, she didn't deny it or turn away, but went back to study/fact check. my other fav religious character is argenti, and they're similarly written, their conflict is an inner struggle about how to overcome doubt and unease, to face forward whatever truth is waiting for them at the end argenti is a bit delulu tho)

aside from that, i was taken aback by the contrast in her personality? She appears docile and dense, but she's incredibly kind and thoughtful, yet not the kind of carelessness or naivety which you can take advantage of. Her battle voice lines are surprisingly not cutesy, instead they are firm and controlled. makes her an overall well rounded character

THE CONCERT COULD HAVE BEEN CANCELED BECUASE OF THE HEAT WAVE FOR SAFETY, INSTEAD WE GOT A PARTIAL.

I was at the SKZ concert in DC and I've noticed people complaining about the venue.

We had no problem between getting to the parking garage and to our seats. We were on 200 level (235), so I can't tell you what happened on the field.

I think the major problem that everyone is taking their frustration out on is the freaking heat wave, and with a good majority of the attendees having not been to a concert before (me included), we are upset with not getting a full show.

Was the venue in the wrong for having that dumb 1 bottle per person rule? Especially with this heat. Yes. It would've been better safety wise to even allow insulated water bottles.

As someone whose been in this kind of profession before, food and drinks are probably one of their highest income to break even outside of their normally scheduled events (baseball).

The tickets for the concert are a shared cost between the venue and the artist, (& possibly the stage set-up if an outside company is hired).

And the crowd on the field only exacerbates the heat, cause of you know: body heat.

When I worked at a sports complex (Spooky Nook Sports, Manheim), there was a major difference in temperature between when all the people were there and when the tournaments ended. And that was entirely inside with A/C running like 15° below room temperature (adjusted by crowd numbers).

So body heat does not help the weather heat in staying cooled down.

Followed by the next thing: a lot of you were wearing black, leather, boots, jeans, and I saw someone wearing long sleeves.

Dark colors absorb heat, light colors reflect heat. If you are wearing black all you're doing is absorbing the sun. I don't care if it was a mini skirt and corset. It's black.

The bright ass sun is going to sight you in a sea of white.

And those wearing leather...have any of you sat on a leather seat in the sun versus a cloth seat??? Let me tell you something: Leather seats can cause burned skin, it's light, more like an instant sun burn.

So yes, black leather will make your internal temperature worse.

The more layers that cover your skin, the safer your skin is from burning, but at the same time the more layers there are the more likely your internal temperature will rise.

I understand wanting to wear red and black to match with Stray Kids main color scheme but at the same time you're putting yourself in danger over an outfit.

I was also going to wear red and black, but because of the heat wave changed my mind. I was constantly checking the forecast for DC leading up to the event.

We were walking around all day before the concert.

And some of you decided to bake in the sun at the gates instead of staying somewhere in the shade.

We were in my truck with A/C running until 15-30 mins before the gate opened.

I read somewhere that this is the most potent heat wave in 13 years, nearly record breaking.

When something doesn't happen often, you do not become used to it, and most likely are not properly prepared.

ESPECIALLY YOUR BODY!

YOUR BODY CANNOT ACCLIMATE TO TEMPURATURES IN ONE DAY!

It's taken 2-3 years for my body to adapt to colder temperatures so winters wouldn't hit so hard for me.

It makes warm temperatures harder but I make choices for my comfort.

Like choosing to wear lighter colors in a heat wave.

SO NO ONE WAS PREPARED FOR THE FUCKING HEAT WAVE.

Could have Nationals Park planned better? Yes.

I don't know what groups they had previously. Kpop is like an entirely different experience when it comes to concerts (so I've read). So it's possible they are unaccustomed to what can happen.

BECAUSE OF THE HEAT WAVE THE CONCERT COULD HAVE BEEN CANCELED BECUASE OF "SAFETY"

INSTEAD THEY WENT THROUGH WITH IT AND WE GOT A PARTIAL SHOW.

Before complaining online, especially with venue reviews, be a little understanding of what is happening behind the scenes.

I'm sure this was a learning experience for the venue internally as well for future kpop concerts with a heat wave.

Especially with a heat wave in general.

Different groups of the same entertainment can have different...attitudes. And patterns.

Stray Kids feel bad about ending the concert early, and I'm sure there was a discussion behind the scenes while we were waiting that they were a part of with Nationals Park management.

Following that...my own mother is upset for me as this entire experience was huge progress for me.

I know no one is blaming Stray Kids for ending the concert, I'm not either, and some of you are blaming the venue itself because primarily of not having enough water BUT make sure that's what you're comment is and not the venue having "poor process".

THEY COULD HAVE CANCELED THE SHOW BECAUSE OF THE HEAT WAVE.

MAKE YOUR CHOICES DELICATELY.

Blakk is a horrible guy with little to no redeeming qualities, but here's the thing-

Blakk is equally himself to just about everyone he meets, you know what your getting into when you get involved with a guy like him.

Blakk does not care if you are man, woman human, elf, Moleinoid, Cave Troll, have money, or are a poor orphan on the street - all the man cares about is whether or not you're useful.

Feminism, at its core, is equality for women and men. To be on equal footing in every possible way. No discrimination. Just equal rights and equal fights.

Hell, he tried to convince Eli he wasn't all that bad when they first met, and had it not been for Burpy and the suddenly showing the young Shane that Ghoul Slug, Blakk might have convinced Eli he wasn't a threat had things just played out differently.

Blakk didn't officially become Eli's antagonist until Eli declined any sort of 'professional relationship' with him and then declare 'war' in episode 3. Because at that moment before being turned down, Eli Shane, was useful in some capacity. Even if that usefulness would have involved a lot of manipulation.

On top of that, he doesn't undermine Trixie either. While he may not personally know her name, he knows enough that Trixie Sting is an obstacle and a threat. And treats her as such.

And probably made sure his henchmen knew as much.

Then there's Dana

He went out of his way to higher one of the best Highered Marks just to track Dana down, get his blaster back, and get rid of her. Blakk, could easily not care about something like a Blaster, Blakk Industries makes them for crying out loud, he probably has a collection of them! But he goes out of his way to get that one Blaster back from Dana, and then make an example of her. Even went as far as to show up in-person to make sure.

A thing, he wouldn't do just for anyone.

Blakk's fits are rated E for Everyone

The man does not care who you are, prove yourself useful, he'll pull the strings to get you on his side, prove to be a nuisance, and you'll be dealt with accordingly regardless of who you are.

Hence me HCing the man as a Feminist.

You can stand on business, have upstanding morals, all while still being a horrible individual.

How Blakk being a Feminist effects his relationship with whomever Tads mom was.

I don't know where the idea of Blakk having to have been married or even a committed relationship to have a baby spawned from, but with as much networking that guy probably had to do while building up Blakk Industries it's safe to assume he met ppl and had a few casual flings.

One of which resulted in Tad.

(And this is not me discrediting/bashing the hc of Blakk having a wife/romance partner, I think its an interesting concept and adds onto Blakk still being a human even though he may act like a monster, a concept i very much so like and will champion because i love complex villains like Blakk. But for the sake of this particular narrative and the limited clues given in cannon, lets pretend otherwise)

The woman, somehow leaving Slugterra and to the Surface, is a plot whole (let's be real, it is). But ignoring it, and just assume the lady was a Surface dweller who would sneak down to Slugterra for fun, and met Blakk by chance.

And when she did realize she was pregnant, she had a choice, and at first she wanted to tell Blakk, he was the baby's father after all, but by then Blakk had developed his reputation, and when she tried some probably thought she was after his money or something.

You know, because people suck.

So by the time Blakk learned of the pregnancy, the Lady had returned to the Surface and swore off coming down to Slugterra ever again. (For reasons)

Blakk probably tried to track her down, but was stumped because there where no records of her ever exiting in Slugterra, and then he remembered bits of their conversations, and how it sounded like she wasn't from Slugterra but the mythical world above.

Thus, his obsession with Shane Secrets begins.

I have a completely different post in my drafts I'm working on, but it relates to this a bit, and the gist of it is, Blakk would have support the woman who was pregnant and any decisions she made, but also given Tad everything he didn't have as a kid.

Again, absolutely horrible individuals can have completely, perfectly normal morals and standards. You can have a monster, give them a humanizing trate, and still be irredeemable.

Dr. Thaddius Blakk is a villain of the highest degree, but he has standards damn it.

nothing breaks my heart, as a pcm student, than seeing media use random maths symbols and relations written on a blackboard to show the nerdy character
