How do you come up with ideas for your comics? Do you start with writing and then draw something fitting around it?

i don't write them actually! writing feels too stifling since i can't do it well enough to. translate the demonic visions into reality.

so i just get. An Evil Idea which is a "what i wanna do" - for example take the mechanic of simultaneously leading two playable characters through different surroundings. or use frames two show planes of space, if you will. then i think where it would work and with whom - kdj's imagery haunting kimcom works better than if i were to use, say, hyj, who would not fit. his face in the crooked mirrors would be too fake. and there is no one who could take 25yo's yoohyun's place in the coffins of the double dungeon. and no fitting way to construct a scenario since it would imply a tangible reward, you know?

and then i just start going. :D

i try to do all the pages' thumbnails to then run it by someone else to see if they understand whats going in by text and stick men alone! and then you draw the rest of the owl, as old tutorials handily say <3

can't write it for the life of me though. which is probably not good but ah well!!

(that's different for short comic with character's inner monologue. these always come text first, and then i draw around them, sometimes even figure out who to apply it to after writing it all out)

i feel like i should clear up some of the confusion i've created. yeah, you'll rarely see an c!inniter outright stating that c!dream is a p3dophile, but that's not what i was talking about. i'm talking about people who push creepy shipper-ish content on c!discduo, but pretend it's not shipper-ish at all. funny thing is i NEVER said the word "c!inniters" in the anon message, but you somehow knew it was abt them and got so defensive. i constantly see c!inniters' designs of c!discduo where c!tommy looks like a prepubescent child (also them calling c!tom "child-sized") and c!dream is like three times taller than him and looks like he's preying on c!tommy. i constantly see c!inniters making edits to songs with obvious romantic/sexual undertones and then saying "that's not a ship" as if that's going to fix anything. i see c!inniters all the time making nasty posts about how c!dream wants to own tommy, to put him in prison, to make him his "trophy", to force him to act like a "little brother" or "protégé" or even a "pet", all under the guise of it being "canon c!dream creepiness". claiming that "all c!inniters would find this bad and would never agree" is pretty stupid - on innnitblr the most popular interpretation of c!discduo is the one where c!dream is obsessed with c!tommy and is his literal stalker. i see takes all the time about c!dream being "delusionally obsessed with c!tommy and wanting to own him", and just because these people claim they don't ship them doesn't normalize their takes or take away the weird creepy subtext from it. i literally remember someone from dreblr recently getting harassed anonymously with questions like "but you do think exile is grooming, right? right??? you're not one of those freaks who denies that c!dream is a creepy stalker and a groomer to c!tommy, right? right??? you know c!dream only wants c!tommy, and to own him, and to torture him for fun" - people in our fandom has this problem of weird views on c!dream and his relationships with other characters, but, this problem is especially acute for c!inniters, which makes sense since c!dream is so important to c!tommy's story and has caused him terrible emotional trauma. some people are downright malicious about it, others just can't accept that their blorbo isn't the center of the universe for everyone, so they buy into the c!dream-is-obsessed-c!tommy interpretation and spread that mess further, it's stupid to deny this problem

the tadca tag was almost entirely c!discduo ship-content, but still, i know a lot of people who got harassed by c!inniters for criticizing the tag. some c!inniters called that tag a warning about the "dark but canon parts of exile", but it was 99% c!dream preying on c!tommy in a psychological horror manner, trying to own c!tommy, being possessive of c!tommy, forcing c!tommy to do weird stuff for him, etc. you guys should understand that not all darkshippers admit to being darkshippers or even acknowledge it inside themselves lmao

I just wanted to add, that to be fair, based on what you said, I assumed and talked about innitors so even if you didn't say it, I kinda did and so anon likely got that assumption from me, even if neither of us were really trying to say all or even the majority of innitors blatantly talk about Dream being some sexual predator. Like you said, it's subtext and not outright said, what we were more or less saying is that there is a widespread majority innitor mindset that Dream is obsessed with Tommy in a creepy way and that is often coupled with sexual predator themes. Like if you make a point to emphasize Tommy as some little kid that Dream is so obsessed with, which is commonplace in the innitor community from art to analysis to fanfiction, than that is kinda automatically implying predator vibes even if not expressed explicitly.

But anyways, my point was, I'm not trying to be the fiction police or judge on morality or whatever, it's not my place and I don't really care, but implying these things are canonical in an way is what really bothers me and where I draw the line. Like despite a popular trope, Quackity and Sam are not discussed and analyzed as canonical saing Dream in prison, and I think it's high time that innitors too learn to separate their dark alternate version of lore from the actual story... hence my suggestion for - t![character]

Ok about moral greyness in elden ring fandom

I feel like it’s mostly treated as either some kind of badass cosmetics for a GoodGuy (like “my blorbo is cool and good and kind but you know they kill people - bad people, so it’s not bad but it’s not also your Jesus guy which is normal bc who would give their second cheek”) or some kind of euphemism used by bad/problematic/pseudo intellectual people to erase morality

I’m bad problematic pseudo intellectual person so take my opinion with grain of salt, but I think it’s a great misunderstanding or what a morally grey character is in ER especially

It’s usually based on the that understanding of goodness that to be good you just need to do good things and don’t do bad things (which is of course extremely vague and not defined but anyways). It’s seems pretty straightforward and because of that brings a lot of confusion

It’s quite easy for a character to be GoodGood (even with murders but I digress), you can see it in many fix-it fanworks where often every trouble finds its own, well, fixing, and there’s always a way to set things right, maybe just with some sad deaths along the way, but characters often will find this correct way because in these universes there’s always at least one

(It’s not a rant on fanfiction I like it and I like fix-its very VERY much)

And when same logic is applied to the game itself, often arises treatment of characters as GoodGood, MisleadedGood and BadBad ones

But in the stories we see in Elden Ring context is usually such that when a character wants to get something, even something good, like for example make people live forever or cure their own sister, there’s sometimes no way of resolving their trouble without facing some kind of moral choice, even if you’re a literal half-god. You either get what you want with a price, or don’t get it… also with a price. Because fromsoftware stories are build on conflict, tragedy and irony

That’s what makes character grey, the fact there’s no third option or that you don’t have third option just because world is that way and you’re unlucky. And not choosing to get what you want can be as bad as choosing opposite. And that’s what usually makes situation complex and twisted and inherently grey

I don’t want to say that like every person in fandom should treat all the characters as mostly good ones without making some way less sympathetic than others. Making characters twisted and horrible is fun! I’m just tired of the way how people 1) don’t realise there’s often HUGE room for interpretation and make it problem of others 2) hate characters with such a passion as they were real humans who live in your neighbourhood on planet earth 2024 3) sanitise characters into strictly Good and Bad ones etc etc etc

My whole vent on Miquella’s hatebase is in fact divided into two parts, one being me thinking many people just lack understanding of the DLC/base game ideas and plot, but that’s ok we all have different opinions (I’m just the only one who is correct. LIVE WITH THAT.), and second being that vague ??rudeness?? and hatred which accompanies division on Morally Good and Morally Bad, because there’s this subtle idea like. Oh if you like Godrick/Rykard/Post-DLC Miquella / Seluvis then you’re moral pervert/ lover of Dark. Which is rarely true and really annoys me

I also have no trouble with GoodGood characters being GoodGood because, well. it’s comforting and cozy stuff. But often it turns into token of moral superiority, like look I love GoodGood guy because I’m good too and also not stupid. This is also annoying and I wish we had less of this in fandom.

It’s often also a lie to oneself, because even if we approach elden ring from I Can Simp Only Morally Pure ones (which is very boring and butchers the whole thing in my opinion) then we would probably be left with only Boc, Hewg and maybe Roderika. What do you mean you want to simp LITERAL murderers?? What do you mean you want to simp those assholes demigods who think that people are just dolls for their games, who turned the land into land of the dead because they just couldn’t stop war after war after war to decide who will make new order? What do you mean you want to simp the demigod who quit the war to do literally nothing to stop it???? CRINGE

Also GoodGood character headcanon making without self-awareness often results in very weird moral twists of its own, because in this logic character is allowed to make only GoodGood decisions, therefore all the stuff character made in canon MUST be good and morally justified. This leads to something like Marika fans writing essays on the topic You Can In Fact Deserve Genocide

There were a lot of series released in 2024, I don't know if more than in 2023, but it seemed to me that there were a lot of them… because all this year I was aware of how many series I didn't watch while they were being aired. I know it sounds weird, but sometimes I had the impression that the more series were being aired, the less I started them. I didn't start many series because their plots weren't encouraging, I also started many but dropped them because they couldn't keep my attention with their story and characters. I admit with shame that there were also series that I watched with one eye, trying to more or less keep up with the story, while doing something else. My "hate watching" of series that I loved at the beginning and which ended in a completely unsatisfying way was even weirder if I'm being honest. What a strange year...

While trying to remember what I liked last year, it turned out that every time it was a series from 2023, so I finally checked the list of series from 2024 and… well, this year in terms of BL series was poor and weak in my case, especially when I compare it to 2023, when a lot of my favorite series so far came out, when I actually had a problem choosing the best ones, because there were simply so many of them. I also have the impression that a lot of series that came out in 2024 - which, although nice and cute - were a bit... about nothing. And sadly the older I get, the easier it is for me to lose focus and interest, sooo.. this trend is not good for me 😅

2024 was also a year that confirmed how "dangerous" is getting attached and invested to series and praising them before the finale. For example, my summary of 2023 began with me gushing about The Sign, which began then, and it is the biggest disappointment of this year and my personal "grief".

So here's my small summary of the series I watched in 2024 (it turns out that there are not that many of them, I'm such a horrible fan 😭):

Best BL series: Love For Love's Sake (which means that for the last 3 years my best BL series have been produced by Korea 😮). I should also include I Cannot Reach You, because even though the series is from 2023, I only watched it this year

Fun fact: the best series from Thailand this year in my opinion are: Dead Friend Forever and High School Frenemy, and from Japan Oppan, which are hard to call a BL, I think it says something 😀

Couples who had satisfying relationships: High School Frenemy, GreatTyme (4 Minutes), LFLS, I Cannot Reach You, Perfect Propose, JJMethas (TLDHLB), Cosmetic Playlover, Love is a Poison, I Became a Main Role of a BL Drama (both couples), Tan and his revenge (DFF)

Interesting, unique series that pleasantly surprised me with how different they are: Dead Friend Forever, 4 Minutes, Oppan

Series that started out 10/10 and ended up being an absolute disaster and made me the most bitter: The Sign, I Hear The Sunspot

Series that started out well and ended up being meh: Love is Better the Second Time Around, Last Twilight, Living With Him, Jazz for Two

Series with a good potential not fully used (which I still liked): Gray Shelter, Twins, The On1 One which wasted its potential in the finale which could be better imho, apart from that it's a very good series

You're so real for that, Techno-centric fic is what keeps me going too <3

UGH, picking a favorite trope with Techno is like picking a favorite child, it's so hard. I'll name three I really enjoy, but honestly it's just scratching the surface and I'm probably forgetting other tropes I love an equal amount.

One: Hiding an injury/illness. This trope is one of my favorite in general for any fandom but it definitely fits perfectly with a character like Technoblade. I love when a character either is too stubborn to admit they're sick or hurt, don't feel like they're deserving of being cared for, simply are awkward about it because they never had people care for them before, or are used to pushing their own health aside for others (like in a combat scenario where they'd prefer to focus on a hurt friend even if the friend's injury is not as bad as their own) - all of those arguably apply to Techno. Bonus points for combining it with a dramatic or inopportune reveal like ignoring the injury until he faints or something. Very tasty.

Two: 'Just a guy' Techno or 'odd one out' Techno. This one arguably is more AU focused but I think my fic history can attest I'm a big fan of fics where Techno is just a guy. Especially if he isn't necessarily less badass than he is in canon. With 'odd one out' I mean content where Techno is like, a different species than the others. I'm a big fan of human!Techno on the origins server or any AU where Techno is human but sbi isn't (human!techno with alien SBI, vampire SBI, fae SBI, etc). Or sometimes he's the only nonhuman, that's fun too (siren!Techno au my beloved)! Or where he's like, the only commoner while SBI is royalty, or a civilian/hero when the others are villains. That vibe basically. There are a lot of different ways you can play with this trope AND it lends itself especially well for dark SBI which is like, my favorite subgenre of Techno fic lmao.

Three: disabled!Techno. Bit of a self-indulgent one ofc because I love projecting onto my blorbo. But also it just makes sense to me in dsmp canon like, it seems unlikely somebody could have gone through all the stuff Techno goes through and not have it leave some permanent marks. I enjoy giving him chronic pain, migraines, maybe amputated fingers. For bunnyblade there's the obvious leg amputation too. But you can get creative for AUs or just for fun. Seizures because of the anvil!!! Put that man in a wheelchair!!! Again, lots of options.

Thank youuu!! Hmmmm I think my first ever DC interest was the show Static Shock when I was little . Ebon was my favourite character shout out Ebon. I watched teen titans religiously from when it first aired too so I was always a big fan of the animated stuff! I only got into the DC fandom in like 2019ish?? my sister is very funny and always sends me her interests in the hopes I'll get brainrot and make fanart for her for free 😂 unfortunately her first batch she sent fic-wise on AO3 was like 5 jaytim fics and the last link with the caption

Little did she know she'd give me brainrot 😔🙏

That was her mistake! I got really into solo Jason stuff so I started doodling silly batfam stuff in 2020 after I played all the Arkham games.

I actually moved to different fandoms for a few years as years ago I was kinda shouting into the abyss about Slade/Jason back when it was still kinda rarepair. I got BACK into DC big time when I bought my PlayStation to play Gotham knights and there was a colourway skin called "tribute Slade" that I put my Jason in pretty much my whole playthrough haha. I was like ohh yeaaaaaah I loved those 2 together from like the THREE fics I had read years ago so I started trawling back through AO3 and found all the amazing fics that had been published in my years away! Then I got an invite to a Sladejay discord which is SO motivating for me for ideas and fun doodles and the rest is history! I'm sure my wallet massively regrets it but I've since gotten mad into collecting comics for my blorbos so I have sooooo much Deathstroke comics and a good few Red hood ones too. I really like to only read stuff I can physically get my hands on as I find it WAAAAY less daunting than attempting to read like 80 years of batman comics 😂 so the comic book stores in Dublin are my stomping ground I pick up the odd bits and bobs and volumes!

Hiiiii, re ur post abt goals and the whole being more active in the community thing -- I'll try to remember to interact with u more than just liking/reblogging things! I've been super quiet on my own blog since I had burnout two years ago but I'm trying to get back into doing more than just occasionally posting fic, and honestly I love a lot of ur head canon posts and metas etc. I probably won't read any of ur fic because I'm a Bit Weird in that for some reason I hate reading fic in the fandoms I write for (but still love metas and headcanons? Brains sure are weird) but everything else I'll try to actually Write Words instead of letting my thoughts stay in my head!

I would totally welcome conversation, and it’s great to know that you are open to it, too. Because I feel like Tumblr as a platform runs on a parallel play model on purpose, and most people probably just want to do that, and my hesitation in going full throttle about using Tumblr the way I would want is my fear that it is going to be obnoxious/overbearing/overwhelming (e.g. driving people to madness via “Why is this person talking to me… I didn’t want to talk to them...”).

It’s so funny you should say that, re: enjoying hcs/meta but not fanfic in your writing fandoms, because I think about that divide a lot! Half the time I spend writing most* headcanon posts is actually time spent workshopping “sooooo…. how do I say this without saying ‘well, in my fanfic…’” because it’s probably something I already wrote in fanfic or notes for fanfic, but 1) I want to talk to people about it, and the chances that I will get to if it’s written in a fanfic are fairly slim, and 2) I want to hear other people’s versions of it, too. In their fanfic, if they write fanfic, but also their posts or tags!

But that can be complicated because in my mind, [insert headcanon post topic] tends to be fairly situated in context—the context of fic things having happened, or things that are going to happen, or thematic undercurrents/relationships—so it becomes a project in trying to make the proposition NOT sound completely bananas without that context/something being written in a particular way. Which can sometimes be its own kind of fun and is sometimes like “good grief, I could have simply been writing more fanfic!” (I feel like I should emphasize here that no one should feel obligated to read my fanfic. I mean, I want people to want to read it! But I very much do not want anyone to feel like they Have To or like they need to explain why they’re not!)

Our approaches are opposite, in that my brain is fanfic forward, both for myself and for others’ fanfic. But I do feel like a lot of RP blogs share your orientation re: not wanting to read other versions of the character they write for! I don’t know if this is where you, specifically, are coming from, but I’ve read on some of the RP blogs that it has a lot to do with having a strong investment in their own particular color on things, and wanting that centered and front of mind. (Which isn’t to say that sentiment isn’t true of most people, I think, because otherwise they wouldn’t write them that way—it’s true of me—but ymmv on how much someone wants to see the other iterations.)

For me, I know that I’m a lot less adventurous about Interpretations That Excite Me for my blorbos than other characters I might read for. Like, to use a silly example, in my mind Soi Fon is 100% Lesbian (which stands out in my headcanon space because I generally assume most everyone in Bleach would be on some level willing to get down with most anyone else), but did I click on Soi Fon/Vegeta when I came across it anyway? Absolutely I did. I barely know who Vegeta is. But my down-to-clown boundaries with Soi Fon are very low, nearly tabula rasa, so go get Vegeta, girl!!!! Whereas for like, Hitsugaya, I’m probably not going to read Hitsugaya/Vegeta because I am not actually a crossover person, my knowledge of DBZ is limited to The Osmotic Experience of Having Grown Up in the 90s, and my favorite version of Hitsugaya’s sex life is the absence of one.

*Of course, there are other headcanons posts in the omake/filler vein that are simply too dumb (affectionate) for me to want to write full fanfic of, like the Gotei regatta or the Gotei bowling league, or that “I think the average shikai user would probably be pretty good at driving a car but they would NOT be considerate or lawful users of said car” post.

I respond emotionally but those rarely make it into words now. When I sit down with the time it’s sometimes been a few weeks (or months) since the comment was written and I’m afraid it will be awkward

Not routinely, but I get rude comments criticizing my characterization of characters sometimes :/ I know everybody’s literally a superhero, but it’s not a lot of fun to write hurt/comfort or whump if I’m not allowed to give them flaws or weaknesses

Eh? I haven’t shipped much on an emotional level since like middle school? Give me an interesting premise and I’ll read it, but I don’t get too attached. It’s less like playing dolls with my blorbos and more like seeing how plants react to different environments haha

WIPs you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I hate to say it, but my dear fic baby “Verse Curse” may never be finished. When I initially outlined it, it was going to be like 3 chapters, but in my head I’ve added so much I want to include that it is too long now and intimidating. (And writing in iambic pentameter is so difficult!)

Writing Strengths?

I’m a dance teacher, so that translates to a lot of time spent thinking about bodies moving through space, which can translate into decent tension and action scenes, I think? I can reread something and tell how long I spent mentally choreographing a scene haha

Writing Weaknesses?

Dialogue! Dialogue tags! I tend to over-rely on actions and my dialogue gets repetitive. I have to go back and cull all of the “his head tilted to the side”s and “his mouth pressed into a thin line”s, etc. It’s all of those action beats again trying to take over.

Thoughts on mixed language dialogue?

I only speak English, unfortunately, so I prefer when dialogue has an easily-accessible translation (Ao3 has a tool for it, or you could footnote it), or it’s commonly-recognized phrases (like greetings), or generally referred to rather than detailed (aka “they said something in Spanish.)” But I recognize it’s mostly an issue because I only speak English, whereas a lot of the world speaks more than one language. Using mixed language can be a cool way to develop your setting or characters, so I think using it intentionally is cool to come across!

First fandom you wrote for?

Maximum Ride. (sigh. You want to talk about universes ripe for fanfiction? Just intriguing enough to hook you, with enough plot holes you're driven to fill? Maximum Ride.)

Favorite fic you've ever written?

It’s close, but I think I have to give this one to Unauthorized Understudy. It was the first fic where I leaned into whump, and I had so much fun writing the tension and unfolding the mystery. I posted a chapter an hour before I was supposed to graduate! It’s not a perfect story – there are scenes out of order from where I got ahead of myself in posting – but I made a lot of friends writing that story, and I’m far enough away from writing it now that I can even get anxious reading it again.

As someone who loves your writing, do you have advice for writing ff - especially when it comes to how to do Astarion’s character justice? I’ve tried several times to flesh out the ideas that have been swirling around in my mind ever since starting the game a year ago, but I always get overwhelmed and discouraged. I wish I were as talented as so many other writers in the fandom (like you!), but I feel just so stupid for struggling with it that I don’t even dare to write just for self-indulgence.

first of all I would like you to come here so I can give you a virtual hug. bring it in. ilu. you're doing amazing. nothing about this is stupid <3

creativity is not easy! it's frequently treated as something that people either have or don't, but that is not true. like any other skill, it requires commitment, practice, a willingness to study, and all that jazz. so the good news is: you can do this! the less-fun news is: it will take time and require some work.

it is absolutely normal for people who are just starting out with writing to feel discouraged or like they're not good enough. I STILL FEEL THAT WAY, and to be totally transparent, I'm a professional writer with publishing history and have won awards. like, objectively I am not bad at this. and yet, the doubts, they persist.

so here's my practical advice: start small. try a one-shot. if you have a particular scene that's really calling to you, focus on that. it's a lot easier to create a short work and then try to shape it into what you want then diving headfirst into longfic if you've never done longform writing before.

more practical advice: if you read something that really resonates with you, reread it and try to pinpoint what the author is doing that makes you feel that way. is it dialogue? action? setting? language? that's resonating with you for a reason. your brain is responding to it. explore that and try to figure out ways to incorporate it into your own writing. again, this is a practiced skill and it will take some time to get right!

and also: be self-indulgent! THAT IS OKAY! literally every fanfic I write is self-indulgent. I want to take these characters and put them in situations that I personally find funny or sexy or moving. and sometimes other people do to, because ultimately we are more alike than we are different. there is NOTHING wrong with making self-indulgent art. fuck, friend, I improved my drawing skills this year purely because I wanted to be able to draw my blorbos kissing.

I'll close out with some advice on doing characters justice, since you specifically asked. characterization is a skill like anything else. you're figuring out how to convey a person's unique outlook and personality without resorting to a laundry list of description.

those things can be portrayed in many ways. how they keep up their appearance. the language and phrasing they use while speaking. how their actions are informed by their history. whether they were raised poor or wealthy. how comfortable they are with intimacy. all the things they're not saying out loud but showing in other ways.

with Astarion, it came down to character study (which I'm skilled at after years of practice). who he is as a person, how his trauma informs his actions and dialogue, his theatricality as a defense mechanism, how forced vampirism and being severed from his bodily autonomy have affected how he views the world, the effects of longterm starvation on a person, who he was BEFORE all that, and who he becomes after he meets Tav/Durge.

I spent a LOT of time just putting on headphones and listening to Astarion dialogue compilations because Stephen Rooney and Neil Newbon put so much thought into how Astarion is written and acted, and those things convey so much about his character. you have to train yourself to pick up on those things, but once you can clock them, it's SO informative.

for example: when Astarion is being duplicitous, his posture, facial expressions, and even the register of his voice change. it's notably different from the way he acts spontaneously, which (in the beginning) is more fearful, reactionary, self-preserving, and, honestly, bratty.

when I say that I knew 1) he was a vampire and 2) he was using seduction as a ruse during my first playthrough, I'm not flexing that I'm smarter than people who didn't. the reason I recognized those things is because I have learned over time how to pick up on characterization clues that other writers are dropping.

a good start is watching clips from throughout the game and making notes about how he acts at the beginning vs at the end, regardless of the outcome you choose. it's everything from the things he says, the WAY he says them, the movement of his body, his expressions, to his actions over time. that applies to any character.

Gayest Supernatural Character, Quarter-Finals

drama and who do you believe is the truest queerest character in supernatural?

i think all spn polls drama is nonsense. it's fun until people start being actual assholes about stuff, and a poll like 'gayest spn characters' does make the worst elements of the fandom get overly aggressive trying to prove their claim to the queerest blorbo. a lot of people here have attached an unhealthy amount of their own identity to their favorite characters (and specifically, to a very narrow perception of said favorite characters) that leads to them lashing out when they feel that character disrespected, as it feels like a slight against them, personally. deeply strange and uncomfortable behavior when we should all just be talking about how crowley kisses men on screen for fun.

anyway, 'truest queerest character of supernatural' is a bit of a mixed bag because there's two options here. which character is the queerest textually, as in, was allowed to be openly queer and express queer love the longest and most often. and which character's subtextual narrative was most reflective of queerness, which is what a lot of people are arguing about the most. because you can't really argue about the first one. like. the only queer character who got to be queer, openly and constantly and for multiple seasons, make out with multiple women on screen, and not be treated like her sexuality is a joke is charlie bradbury. and we can talk about how well or poorly she's written as a character, but in supernatural, she is like a fucking lesbian beacon. and she's still bare fucking minimum in a cast whose other notable queers consist of 1) joke characters we are meant to mock for the fact that they are queer, 2) one-off characters who either die or in the case of later seasons where killing off gay people instantly because slightly less okay, do not get to express a lot of their queerness on screen before being shunted off to never scare the largely cishet audience again, or 3) villains. just like. villains. i know we love this about them, i know we're all gay little freaks here on the lucifer stan blog who enjoy that he's Like That about sam. but the fact that a lot of the villains on supernatural are queer-coded if not just openly queer is. :/ not great, folks.

and now we get to what my answer is for number 2) most subtextually queer. because like. it isn't charlie. charlie's queerness is not a part of her journey in any way. which is, kind of refreshing? but also very evidently the result of the writers not actually knowing how to integrate a lesbian into their story other than like. let her kiss women. charlie is written about as deep as a puddle 90% of the time, and that's the real crime we should talk about with her at the end of the day. getting distracted. anyway. for subtextual queerness. i mean, for me, it's sam. quite obviously, it's sam. sam the othered, sam the defiled, sam the broken and never pure. sam in his struggles trying to connect to a religion and a god who rejects him. sam who is and always will be the devil himself even when he proves that he can overcome him. sam who cannot win, no matter how quiet he makes himself and how much he acquiesces to the demands of the patriarchal family structure he's been slotted into.

hm. sam who knows he's dying, and sam who refuses to take a chance at life if it means burying everything about himself he's tried to construct and rising again as someone new.

i don't think you can honestly argue that sam's story doesn't resonate queerly. and i know this because most of the arguments i've seen against it have been "well, but sam (or sometimes "jared") feels too straight to be queer in any way". to which the only response can be THEY'RE ALL STRAIGHT. ALL OF THEM. THERE ARE NO QUEER MAIN CHARACTERS ON SUPERNATURAL. and yes, i am intentionally including castiel in there, for the people who argue his status as a main character. no. i don't think a love confession -> death pipeline is particularly compelling as a queer narrative, least of all because his potential queerness has always been treated like a joke or a reason to emasculate him, and to actually explore what it means that castiel loves dean winchester would take a much better show than supernatural could ever be. and it still wouldn't be a show that makes people happy, if it was honest, because it'd be a show about the slow and steady decline of one broken man constantly proven right about his paranoia and his abuse and his control issues, and one broken angel who has set him up as a god because he never really learned what free will was, just learned that following dean winchester means he has it.

I seen some many talk about how theos two ships are baf because for Lancelot and Tristan they have no real relationship in canon or what so ever. Coming to ban x meliodas they more like best friends. hello!! okay im gonna ramble a bit cuz i love yapping about this kinda stuff and dont wanna clog up any feeds, so ill add a 'read further' here :3

i feel like its not very surprising that i do think both ships are good (especially melban). i think that for both of them- yes, they can definitely be read as just being friendships and nothing more than that, but i guess the charm of shipping and headcanons is that you can add in your own interpretations and additions which you think feel right :3

a lot of the interactions between mel and ban, for example, i read as being pretty homoerotic/gay. thats mostly because, as a gay/queer guy myself, i find myself relating a lot to the stuff they do together when comparing it to me and my bf, and also because they are my favourite characters and headcanoning them as being the same sexuality (and gender) that i am is like a little golden sticker saying "fav character" (godbless projection onto your blorbos).

in general, i think its pretty common consensus, at least in my circles, that ships dont have to stick 100% to what the canon says/shows, and you can always add in your own ideas or headcanons to create a relationship either between your favourite characters, or one which you think would be interesting to see, or just one which you think would provide a fun/interesting addition to the story. and in my case, its all of those - i really just adore the dynamic meliodas and ban have, and in addition to my gay reading of a lot of their interactions with one another, it just feels right and fun to ship them (this applies to lancetris as well, but to a slightly lesser extent/not exactly the same)

so yeah, thats my stance on it!! i really like lancetris and adore melban, and i think (considering how much reconning has happened on the fandom's part towards nakaba's,,,, decisions,,,,) it doesnt do harm to read certain friendships as having romantic or sexual under- or overtones

i also feel like i should mention that i only really ship lancetris and melban in separate circumstances, if that makes sense - like, i ship melban a lot harder than lancetris, so whenever i do make any ship art of them (lancetris), i think of meliodas' and ban's relationship like more of a qpr than a fully romantic one, just cuz i feel like it makes it better??? more likely??? less weird?? idk if im making much sense here, but yeah, so thats sm (i guess i also just wanted to state that to clear anything up, cuz i do know how having ship art of both lancetris and melban could come off as kinda weird to some, but idk, maybe im overthinking it (￣▽￣)")

I think some time after tgaa2 he moves back to England and lives with barok, who obviously has more than enough money to spend on him, so Albert grows his hair out again (he has a very stupid hat/helmet thing he wears to protect his hair if he's working on something potentially dangerous)

First off I think Albert had long hair in university. most of the time when people draw him in uni he looks almost identical to his 2-3 design WHICH IS FAIR AND NOT BAD! but I have some thoughts of my own

pray forgive the discourtesy of this looking shit I drew it quite quickly. but. I think he had long hair in university and was a little more particular about his appearance. however i do think he had pretty bad acne in his late teens. the acne was just a hormonal teenager thing and cleared up by his 20s.

After moving abroad I think he cut his hair short because he had less time to look after it, and wanted to put any money he had towards funding his inventions, so he did pretty much the bare minimum when it came to looking after himself (I must clarify I do think that Albert is attractive, this is not me trying to "yassify" him. I have a soft spot for cute nerdy guys I'm dating one but he likes Elden ring instead of science)

because he's pretty much been alone for like. a decade. and basically just spoke in Law Words for half of that. I think barok is very direct and literal with how he speaks so he worries about not seeming "romantic" enough, so to compensate he's very physically affectionate and likes spoiling albert with nice food, gadgets and supplies for his inventions, and new clothes.

I think barok is extremely clingy once he gets used to having Albert around again. he's like a cat he'll just kind of bonk his head into him sometimes and sadly gaze at him until he gets attention. very cuddly and a bit melodramatic. I love characterisations of barok where he's really pathetic tbh. also him being shy is fun I enjoy it greatly

albert on the other hand I actually think he's the more bold/confident one (I hate when barok is portrayed as a dominant bad boy or whatever its so stupid he literally gets shy when his 10 year old niece invites him to dinner). albert talks baroks ear off about anything and everything, humours his clingyness, and drags him outside to have a life beyond his job and engage in whimsy and fun . he's also very verbally affectionate I think. he makes sure to try and help barok feel less alone, because I think he has lingering guilt for not being there during the professor bullshit and klints death. it may have been after he left England for Germany, and he didn't even know when it was happening, but i think he has a lingering, irrational guilt for not being there for barok at his worst hour

ALSO a lot of the time I see people drawing Albert talking a lot about science shit w barok listening happily, but I also think it goes the other way too! I think barok will rant about wine pairings and different types of grapes n shit. Albert stares at him lovestruck and adoringly the whole time. he has no idea what a pinot noir is (neither do I, I don't drink)

final thing or I will be here all fucking day: my boyfriend and I came up with a headcanon that barok has a really pathetic looking Italian greyhound named petunia, he likes dressing her up in little outfits. I think when albert starts living with him he starts calling petunia their daughter, and has the ability to make the exact same sad and pathetic expression as the dog

jk tiny bonus: I have a very dumb "100 years on" au stewing in my brain where everything is set in the 1980s and 1990s instead of 1880s and 1890s. in the 80s section, when barok and Albert are in university together, barok is a sulky and mopey trad goth and they listen to The Cure together. albert dresses normal and listens to talking heads i think. this is stupidly self indulgent because I like 80s fashion and clothing. I have not even thought about the 90s section because I don't want to 😊 (I HATE 90S FASHION.)

yknow, truly, I’m happy for the kylo /reylo fans who get to have their little emo blorbo and that they’re having fun over there— I am, genuinely I’m glad they found their corner of the star war!— but like. just for me personally. I truly could not give less of a fuck about kylo ren. at all, whatsoever. I felt this way in 2015 and a decade later my feelings are unchanged. I’m glad they (the fans, I mean) are happy but I will truly never understand them. Trebol's Side

The gloomy haze and downpour over the little island in the North Blue would have made it a miserable day even if the local factory-town rain wasn't acidic enough to sting when it got in your face– which it was. The business would wait.

In the smoky backroom of the hideout Trebol and Doffy sat in fat armchairs around an old chessboard, where the 'young master' was currently creaming him in three out of four games, much to both of their delight. Doflamingo was a much keener chess opponent than Trebol was used to facing, and Trebol was excited to use teaching him more of the theory behind the game to sharpen the young king-in training's mind for strategy and politick. 

After checkmating their sixth match, Doffy pinned the defeated king under his finger and declared. "I'm bored."

"Well, maybe time to do something else then," Trebol agreed, stroking his chin. Six games was enough that even Trebol's patience for the game was growing thin, and he considered some other diversion for the two of them.

Before he could think of something, let alone suggest it, without warning and without another word, Doffy stood from his chair and came and sat himself right across Trebol's lap.

Trebol felt his pince-nez slip on his nose as he looked down in astonishment. 

"Is that alright? I'm not too heavy?"

"Never, Doffy," Trebol promised. Trebol was far from the strongest man alive, despite the size of his body– rather frail from the cruel treatment of his enslaved upbringing– but he wasn't sure he'd tell Doffy even if the young master was too heavy for him. He wasn't though, just a pleasant, if mildly confusing weight in his lap.

"Good then. You may pet my hair." Obviously it was less permission, and more command. Once again it surprised Trebol, but Doffy's demanding nature was neither something new, nor something unwanted. Happily Trebol ran his fingers through the short blond locks, and Doffy arched into the touch like a big cat.

Bored, it seemed, for Doffy, meant in need of physical affection, and Trebol wasn't the least bit displeased to provide it.

A few minutes later, he poked Trebol in the chest. "Do you love me, Trebol?"

Trebol looked down, surprised yet again. "Huh? What kind of question is that, Doffy?"

He wasn't quite sure what he heard in Doffy's voice. It wasn't exactly insecurity, though Trebol admitted even someone as effortlessly regal as Doffy might need to occasionally be reassured, given the sorry state they'd found him in.

Doflamingo stared up at him and Trebol could feel the intensity of his stare behind his crimson glasses as he answered haughtily. "One that I'm demanding an answer to. And I'll know if you're lying."

Maybe he did need to be reassured after all. Well, Trebol was pleased to remind him that he was unwavering in both his support, and his affection.

"Hey, hey I wouldn't lie, Doffy," he placated. "Of course I love you."

Doffy stared him down. 

"And the others? They love me too?"

Another demand. And Trebol was equally sure of their devotion, and equally quick to defend it.

"They love you, Doffy. I swear. We all do."

"Good."

Doffy leaned against him again, and Trebol didn't question him about it further, instead going back to petting his hair, until a moment later when Doffy squirmed and reached for something on the table.

Trebol watched curiously as he grabbed a napkin and damped it with some water, washing traces of soot and sweat and other mundane filth of the day off of his face. It wasn't that unusual– Doffy had been living in the trash when they'd found him, and sometimes he'd get all twitchy and panicked about garbage or being dirty. Trebol couldn't blame him. 

And then, without waiting for permission, did the same to Trebol. The cool cloth carried away the grime rather refreshingly from his pale, soft face, and he certainly wasn't going to complain, but he was curious if there was something more on the young man's mind.

Before he could ask what was up, Doffy leaned up in his lap and pressed his lips to Trebol's.

Whatever question he might have asked was smothered immediately by kiss.

It came as a surprise but Trebol was certainly not about to say no to whatever their kingly young leader wanted, even if it was something he'd assumed would hold disgust rather than interest. He felt himself flushing as Doffy kissed him greedily and Trebol flushed as he returned it, hesitantly pressing his tongue into the young man's mouth only after Doffy had first invaded his own.

The door clicked open just as Doffy was breaking the kiss, and while Trebol went further scarlet and hurried to pull away in hopes to preserve the young man's dignity– surely he wouldn't want to be seen kissing him– Doffy pulled him back for a final kiss perhaps just out of spite.

Diamante lounged in the doorway, looking bemused. "Am I interrupting something, Doffy?"

Trebol, flushed and breathless, stared at his partner across the way with an equally bemused expression.

Doffy slid back into Trebol's lap properly and smirked. "No, you can come in."

Diamante shrugged and waved a hand as he came in. The rest of the gang came along over the next few minutes, and the chess board was put away, and a game of poker started in its place.

Doflamingo, who insisted he was bored of games for the day, lounged in Trebol's lap while they played.

Trebol never did get an explanation beyond a guess at Doffy's boredom, but it didn't bother him, far from it. He cheerfully thrashed the rest of the gang at poker with the pleasant weight of the young master on his lap.

Doffy's Side

The gloomy haze and downpour over the little island in the North Blue would have made it a miserable day even if the local factory-town rain wasn't acidic enough to sting when it got in your face– which it was. The business would wait.

In the smoky backroom of the hideout Trebol and Doffy sat in fat armchairs around an old chessboard, where the 'young master' was currently creaming him in three out of four games, much to both of their delight.

Doffy knew that Trebol was using it as an opportunity to drill him on strategy, and that was interesting enough for a while but on a day like this the amusement started to wear thin after a while.

After checkmating their sixth match, Doffy pinned the defeated king under his finger and declared. "I'm bored."

Unsurprisingly, Trebol was hasty to cater to Doffy's whims. It was one of the many things that he liked so much about the man.

"Well, maybe time to do something else then," Trebol agreed, stroking his chin.

This time however, Doffy had no intention of letting Trebol set the expectations for their next amusement. He'd probably suggest another game, or some reading, or perhaps even a sojourn out into the miserable weather if he thought Doflamingo was restless enough to want to get into a fight.

But Doffy had something else in mind.

"Is that alright? I'm not too heavy?" He squirmed in his lap, just to make sure. Trebol, he knew, wasn't in the best of health, and he didn't want to crush him.

"Never, Doffy," Trebol promised.

That Trebol and the others were using him somehow, in some way he couldn't imagine. Which was ridiculous. They all cared about one another, and Doffy was the leader besides.

Of course they loved him. Unlike his father, who had ruined him. And his brother who had run from him.

"Hey, hey I wouldn't lie, Doffy," he placated. "Of course I love you."

Doffy stared him down. Hearing it sent a pleasant shiver of reassurance through him.

"And the others? They love me too?"

"They love you, Doffy. I swear. We all do."

It was true. He knew it was true. Trebol and the others loved and adored him. He was special, and beloved, and they were a family, and they'd tear down and destroy anyone who hurt any of the others.

"Good."

Doffy leaned against him again, and Trebol didn't question him about it further, instead going back to petting his hair, until a moment later when Doffy squirmed and reached for something on the table.

With his feelings satisfied, he was ready to go for the other part of his rainy day entertainment plan.
