Writing Tag: The Game of Sevens
I was tagged by @cassandra-yannu-writes, many thanks for tagging me. it brought me a lot of joy to dive back into my WIP. This is also my first tag of 2019. I hope I can actually keep on top of these tags this year, unlike last year.
rules: go to your current WIP, find the seventh line in the seventh page and paste seven sentences below, then tag seven other writers to do the same.
There was also the fact that before her were five individuals, and her keen hearing only detected two heartbeats. Both frantic as they readily pumped blood around their hosts bodies. But she couldn’t be sure; this would be the first time she would have laid eyes on one.
The boy; the victim in this situation; the one with the heartbeat; or at least who she assumed to have a heartbeat if the rapid rise and fall of his chest was anything to go by, was struggling against the grip on his neck.
Her flippers tensed in their grip as she watched the blonde haired attacker move his mouth close to the boy’s neck. Something within his mouth shone in the moonlight; she swore it was the tell-tale glint of fangs.
“You know pup,” She heard the attacker sneer into the boy’s face....
I shall tag @lyntries @arwallace, @luna-evans-writes, @fannist, @byriamallo, @allthatpurpleprose, @halrose
Don't feel pressured to take part if i've tagged you and you don't want to.

Quarantine Tag Game! I was tagged by @anistarrose <3
1. How has your day been?
Not bad. I don’t have a lot going on with work (what, with having to do things remotely), and what I do have to do, not gonna lie, I’ve been slacking a bit. But I’ve been doing okay. Staying home doesn’t really change a ton in my life outside of work, so not a huge adjustment for me. Played some Animal Crossing, just ordered some dinner. All in all, not a bad day.
2. What is the last thing that made you smile?
I was just scrolling through an Animal Crossing meme page, so there was some pretty funny stuff in there.
3. What’s keeping you entertained these days?
The new Animal Crossing game. I’ve never played before, so I’m having a blast! Also, been watching Star Wars The Clone Wars (which is great).
4. If you are in some kind of quarantine/self-isolation: is there anything you’d like to achieve in this time?
I would love to get another chapter of AMoT out, but I’ve been saying that for a while here so-
I mean, seriously, I want to get back into fic. Graduating, getting a 9-5 job, and then a lot of other stuff really just made finding the time and energy to write difficult, so I’m hoping to get back into it. Part of the reason I decided to try out charity commissions.
5. Post a selfie (if you’re comfortable with that)
Nah, I’m good.
6. last but not least: send this to some mutuals to keep the game going
No idea who has been tagged, so I’m just gonna throw some names here, and if you’ve already been tagged, then guess what you’re double-tagged (unless you’ve already filled it out, then I guess you’re free) (also no pressure if you don’t wanna do it)

11/11/11 tag
i was tagged by the lovely @sarmarble ! here thank you for tagging me and sorry I’m so late in doing this. Without further ado...
1. What is your favourite part of writing?
The discovery of it all. I’m not really one for massive plans and pretty much go with the flow of it all. I have an idea of where I’m going or rather what I want to accomplish in a particular scene but that’s as far as my planning goes. I like discovering the story as I write; it’s my favourite part of writing and honestly it brings me such joy (and relief) when the pieces finally fall into place :)
2. List 3 of your favourite fictional characters from books that aren’t your own.
Karou from the Daughter of Smoke and Bone Triology
Inej from Six of Crows Duology
Eve from the Morganville Vampires Series
3. Do you listen to music as you write? If so, what kind of music?
Yes I do. All sorts of music; mostly instrumental so expect Lindsey Stirling and Two Steps from Hell to feature on my playlist, but songs from my favourite bands do tend to creep into my playlists.
4. If you had to, what books/movies/tv shows would you compare your wip(s) to?
Books-wise: I would compare my WIP to Dracula by Bram Stoker for Vampires and The Mortal Instruments/Shadowhunter Series because the world in which AMOT is set operates under a masquerade: humans are unaware of the existence of supernatural creatures and a group of strangers working together to save the world from the villains. Drac, and to ensure that masquerade stays intact.
Movies: I would compare my WIP to The Mummy, especially considering that the second half of the novel sees Aliskandariya, Cailean and Iara, 3 almost strangers embark on an adventure into the unknown, hunting for the thing (person!) that Markus has been searching for. As the continue on this journey of their, secrets begin to unravel as they begin to discover aspects of their world that remained hidden to them (especially Aliskandariya). For this reason, I would say part 2 is very much like the Mummy, and I am most looking forward to writing it.
TV Shows: I would compare my WIP to Penny Dreadful by virtue of the mythology explored in AMOT and the aesthetic which I hope to achieve with this story.
5. Describe your writing process.
I am currently in the stages of my first draft, and the drafting process began with just writing random scenes. Now as I’ve stuck with this project, I have begun taking a more structured approach.
I’ve split the novel in parts, and briefly written a description as to what I want to happen for each POV character (of which there are three) and I just write my chapters around that description. It seems to working so far, though the plot tends to change direction quite often and I find myself having to fight the urge edit as I write.
To conclude, it seems my drafting process consists of a ‘discovery draft’ as any outline I have created becomes redundant after a couple of months xD
6. What keeps you motivated to write?
This burning desire of wanting to hold the finished copy in my hands. I’ve got to finish it because then the real work of rewriting and editing will begin and when I have finished then maybe, just maybe, I'll be closer to my dream of fashioning this mess into a real book.
7. Were there any books that made you decide to start writing? If not, why did you start writing?
If I think about it, I realise that I began when I was around 9 years old. The reason as to why? I think it was the escapism which writing provided for me. There were points where I stopped and then when I was 12 I picked it up again. I think I took a look at the books I read and thought “i can totally do that!” Several abandoned stories later, here we are.
8. What form of media is most inspiring to you: books, movies, tv shows, video games, or something else?
I honestly take inspiration from many sources, but music takes the top place; its ability to transport me into my character’s heads and into scenes means that it serves as the most inspiration form of media to me.
9. How do you get into the mood to write?
Music Music Music!
10. What are your top 3 fictional relationships, platonic or romantic?
Patroclus x Achilles
11. What would your characters’ reactions be upon meeting you and knowing that you’ve orchestrated their entire lives?
Aliskandariya: “So this is all your doing?” *hands alight with flames*
Cailean:.... *silence*
Iara:.... *looks to Cailean* “What Alis said*
questions under the cut!

2. Are any of your OCs based off of you, in some way?
3. What is the most enjoyable aspect of writing to you?
4. What is your favourite line which you have written?
5. What do you hope readers gain from reading your WIP(s)?
6. If you could rewrite a famous novel what would it be and how would you change it?
7. The story behind your WIP(s) name
8. What are your favourite tropes to read?
9. What are your favourite tropes to write?

A big thank you to the amazing @arwallace for tagging me. Sorry it took so long to post this one. I shall tag @arwallace back, along with @cassandra-yannu-writes, @luna-evans-writes, @sarmarble, @the-midwrite-oil, @megxnswrites, @antique-symbolism, @lyntries, @allyn-racki and anyone else who wants to take part. As usual: do not feel compelled to take part if you don’t want to.
Here is a line from the current rewrites of AMOT, from Cailean’s POV:
He felt a soft touch on his other hand. The brush of cold metal, then burning. His ears picked up the sound of trickling liquid as it fell into something ceramic. The metallic scent of blood reached his nose, and he looked down.

W.I.P Tag

Firstly, my apologies for how long it’s taken to finish this. Thank you for your patience! Thank you to @cassandra-maher-writes for tagging me. You can read about her amazing WIP here! (Do check it out!)
1. What is the working title of your book?
Currently, its ‘Daughter of Fire’, though this no longer fits the novel because the current version has now evolved into multi-pov narrative it has no diverged into rather than single. I’ll probably change it when I can think of a better one that fits!
2. Where did the idea for your book come from?
So many things! The current version has certainly evolved from when I first started writing it around 5 years ago (though then, there was no sort of plan. Now I kinda have an idea of the route I’m taking, thank god!)
I have been inspired by:
1) A lot of the media I have been consuming over the past 5 years: Buffy, Catwoman, The Shadowhunters, Dracula (Books and movies), Blue Bloods Series, Penny Dreadful... (and lots more, especially YA Novels, which I cannot name off the top of my head).
2) Mythology
3) My Classical Civilisation Classes (’One Man’s fate curbs the next man’s fate’ from Aeschylus’ Aggamemnon which relates to a key theme explore in the story).
4) Music
3. What genre is your current work in progress?
Either YA Urban Fantasy, or NA Urban Fantasy.
4. Choose the actors for your movie rendition.
I would love to see my book as a movie (maybe a series, but we’ll see, first it’s got to be written. NB: Some of the actors are way older than my characters, but are nevertheless match the image of them in my head).
Cailean Calhoun: Robert Sheehan
Aliskandariya Korkmaz: Cansu Tosun
Iara Vega: Teyonah Parris
Markus Istvan: Neil Jackson
5. Give a one-sentence synopsis of your book.
Aliskandariya Korkmaz, Iara Vega and Cailean Calhoun would never though that their paths would ever cross with each other; but then again, they never thought they would be racing against the clock to uncover the mystery of Sanura Sharpe, whose awakening threatens to shake the foundations on which the worlds of the Human and Supernatural have remained at peace, distinctly separate from one another, for centuries.
6. Will your book be self-published or represented by an agent?
I haven't completed enough research into this to make a decision to be honest. I like the idea of traditional publishing, but I’m not keen on the controls imposed on you if that route is taken. But then, I really want to walk into my local bookshop and see my book on the shelves.
7. How long did it take you to write the first draft?
Not finished yet. 5 years ago I embarked on this journey, with no idea as to where I was going. But now I think I have a clear(ish) idea of my destination. Now to finish writing it. (Wish me luck)
8. What other books would you compare your story to?
A bit similar to the Shadowhunter series in relation to the fact that there is a masquerade in place where humans aren't aware of the existence of supernatural creatures. Plus I’m kinda a sucker for anything with vampire hunters in it, and urban fantasy,
9. Who or what inspired you to write the book?
The whole writing thing started when I tried to read twilight (spoiler: I didn’t finish it) and thought to myself, I can totally write a book, though in terms of writing DOF, as I’ve said above, lots of media I consumed through my teenage years has been a source of inspiration. I would say the film, The Mummy (90s version) has inspired the latest version of my first draft (and the direction which I'm taking with it).
10. What else about your book might peak reader’s interest?
The uncovering of secrets which seem to tie all the main characters together on this whirlwind of a journey halfway across the world. I’ve created my own mythological creature which concerns the lineage of one the main characters (can anyone guess who?). Lot’s of Character development, fighting the bad guys, visiting historic sites. Also, characters with wings!!!
I shall tag: @katshouldbewriting , @dantedevereaux , @moiraaward @goforwardgreenwriter , @allthatpurpleprose , @byriamallo , @authordai , @authorlaragrey , @writeontheedge @colubrina , @arwallace , @wolvesofarcadia, @idreamonpaper and ANYONE ELSE who wants to do it! please tag me so I can see your WIPs!
Feel free to ignore if you've done it already or don’t want to do it.

I was tagged by @arwallace and @authordai a month or so ago to do this. Sorry it’s taken me a while to do this.
Arms wrapped around her waist, shocking her to drop her phone for the second time in a single hour as her ear lovingly received the words;
“Right here.”

Find the Word Tag
Thank you to @allthatpurpleprose for tagging, I really enjoyed reading your excerpts and can’t wait to hear more about your WIP.
fair
Aliskandariya unlocked the front door, ushered her sister in then quickly bolted, latched and locked the door, taking extra care not to make much noise. It was well past midnight, so it was fair to say that their mother was home, though asleep - the lack of lighting signalled that to be truth.
tension - no mentions of tension yet.
strength
It was certainly impossible for such damage to occur to the door, considering Aliskandariya didn't push the door so hard and also considering that she did not usually possess strength that could damage the hinge of a heavy hospital door.
alive
“Watching you give your last breath would be such a pleasure to watch,” Markus smiled. “Such a shame we need you alive.”
My words for you to find are: truth, light, silent, hidden
I tag @cassandra-maher @wolvesofarcadia , @katshouldbewriting, @authordai, @goforwardgreenwriter, @writeontheedge, @crazybunchwriter, @atelierwriting, @moiraaward, @fynn-patrick-writes, @jxsminewrites, @temporarysentences, @byriamallo, @melodielgrace, @celstefani, @siriusly-writing and anyone else who would like to take part. Find the Word Tag
I was tagged by @arwallace! Thanks for tagging me. I have been tasked to find the words lost, hold, moon, and together in my current WIP. So without further ado...
Lost:
Iara could feel the tears well up in her eyes, but willed them to stop, at least until she was upstairs. She nodded. “I’ve suddenly lost my appetite. Goodnight.”
She walked out of the room. Her mother didn’t stop her, and her father was too busy shouting at her mother.
Hold:
He didn’t answer her, just trailed his eyes over her form. She didn’t like that. Not at all. It was creepy, and although she was not one to usually shy from the dark and creepy. His eyes on her skin gave her a weird feeling. He was assessing her for something, she didn’t know what, and thats what she hated. Not knowing. She straightened her back, tightening her hold on the books cradled in her arms and ignoring the one he held outstretched in his hand.
Moon:
Cailean’s eyes widened, his mouth forming the word blood, glad that in his surprise he had not exclaimed the word out loud, although there was no one around that would have heard. Still he knew it was better to be safe than sorry. The last thing he needed was to arose any suspicion; especially if the scent of blood was the result of any casualties. Cailean’s eyes widened at the thought, hoping to the moon that the blood was nothing more than the result of an trivial injury, like a paper cut.
Together:
Iara’s gaze fell on a family, just across the road from her view. They weren’t really a family, but just two individuals. An middle-aged woman, holding the hand of a girl, probably no older then seven years of age. They were laughing together, and smiling; the sight making Iara think back to her own mother. Her eyes didn’t waver from the two, and she sighed.
“Things were much simpler then.”
I really love doing these, so thank you again to @arwallace for tagging me. I shall tag @cassandra-yannu-writes, @writeontheedge, @allthatpurpleprose, @finswriteblr, @fannist, @godxblooded @authordai and anyone else who would like to do so (as usual, don’t feel compelled to take part if you would rather not do so).
I would like you to find the words night, star, life, and blue in your WIP.
