Okay so everytime I listen to this song, I imagine Remus and Sirius (the ATYD ones) singing it for each other. And I really need to get this out of my head so here we are:

This whole part is Remus. It's literally about HIM. Him talking about his "cage" (i.e. St. Edmund's) , which he had accepted before Hogwarts, and even the Shrieking Shack before the other Marauders transformed into animagi and helped him. Before Sirius told him that he doesn't deserve to suffer alone.

Am I allowed to cry?

This line is TOO accurate for ATYD Remus, as he's always avoiding crying and sees it as a weakness.

I imagine this to be from Remus because of all the hate werewolves get. He's always thinking that at the end of everything, he'd still be hated for what he is.

This is Sirius because everyone thinks he's guilty immediately because of his family. He never got a trial and was sent to Azkaban. The internalised homophobia and his love for Remus scared him so much, so it can be said that Remus HAS haunted him.

“Regulus,” Sirius pleads. “Just one more hour, then I promise we can go home.” 

Regulus takes a deep breath, remembering how happy his brother was earlier, laughing and dancing in the parade. He can put up with another hour in the sun, surrounded by thousands of strangers. This is their first pride together after Regulus ran away a few months ago, and he wants Sirius to enjoy himself. “Fine,” he sighs. “Only if you buy me a drink.” 

“Deal,” he beams. 

Sirius grabs his wrist, leading him through the crowd to an overcrowded pub. They stand at the bar, no empty seats available, and order their drinks. Just as Regulus begins to relax a little, someone bumps into him from behind, almost causing him to spill his drink all over himself. “Watch it,” he snaps, turning around and his breath hitches as he lays his eyes on the most gorgeous man he has ever seen. 

“Sorry,” he smiles. “But God, you are beautiful.” 

Regulus feels his cheeks heat up and the moment is ruined by Sirius clearing his throat beside him. “And you are?” 

“James.” 

“You single, James?” 

“Sirius!” Regulus hisses. 

“What? You are both clearly attracted to each other, but I don’t want my baby brother to get hurt.” 

“Don’t call me your baby brother again. Besides, I can see if he is a decent bloke or not myself.” 

“James,” another man stands next to him. “You made some friends?” he asks, raising his eyebrows suggestively. 

“Yes, this is…Sirius, was it?” Sirius nods, and then James looks to him. “And I don’t think I got your name.” 

“Regulus.” 

He smiles warmly at him, butterflies fluttering in his stomach. “And this is his brother, Regulus.” 

“I’m Remus.” 

“Are you single, Remus?” Regulus asks, noticing how his brother can’t take his eyes of him. Sirius slaps him up the head. “What? I don’t want my big brother to get hurt.” 

“Wanker.” 

“Dickhead.” 

“We were going to go back out,” James explains, interrupting their bickering. “Want to join us?” 

“Yes,” the brothers both say, far too quickly, and the friends laugh at their enthusiasm. 

James extends his hand to Regulus. “Shall we?” 

Electricity courses through his body as he takes his hand and head outside, Sirius and Remus holding hands and making disgusting eyes at each other as they follow them back to the parade.
