The strike comes after the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers announced that 94.6% of union members voted to reject a proposed contract from Boeing. The deal would've included a 25% pay raise over four years, much lower than the requested 40%.

This is expected to halt the production of aircraft in Washington state, where most of the union members are located.

Canadians who rely on Via Rail to travel across the country could run into a workers' strike next month. Unifor Council 4000 and Local 100, the union representing over 2,500 Via Rail workers, declared a strike mandate on May 26. The passenger rail service and the union resumed negotiating collective agreements on Monday under the federal conciliation process.

Dubbed the Uprising of the 20,000, it was the largest strike by women to date in American history. The young strikers’ courage, tenacity, and solidarity forced the predominantly male leadership in the “needle trades” and the American Federation of Labor to revise their entrenched prejudices against organizing women. The strikers won only a portion of their demands, but the uprising sparked five years of revolt that transformed the garment industry into one of the best-organized trades in the United States.

Workers at three Montreal hotels staged a surprise strike on Saturday: the Queen Elizabeth Hotel, the Marriott Château Champlain and the Hyatt Place Montreal. This is the third consecutive day of strike action for employees at the Queen Elizabeth. The Fédération du commerce, a union affiliated to the CSN, has said that 600 employees are on strike at the Queen Elizabeth, 350 at the Marriott and around 100 at the Hyatt. This surprise strike comes shortly after a one-day strike at 23 Quebec hotels on Thursday.

Their strike isn’t getting as much attention as the writers’ strike got last year so please spread the word. Animation is such an incredible medium and it’s complete bullshit that the artists that make these wonderful works of art are treated so poorly.
