i've spent a lot of time feeling like i died and came back wrong. my friends look at me like i came back right - so i think i must be okay. i can feel parts of me still decaying, falling away when i step or dance or do most things. but something is growing, too. a mushroom, a vine, a new lung, a heart that beats how it ought to, my hair and nails. i clawed my way out of the grave dug for me - i deserve the love shown to the undead man in the mirror.

As promised in my last post here are the cats (currently convinced it's dinner time. It is in fact, as of writing this 4:25 PM Eastern time, and not time for them to eat at all. They eat no earlier than 5:00pm and generally eat between 6:00-7:00, sometimes as late as 8:00, as that's usually when my sibling and I have historically gotten home from work. I say all this to explain the absurd "at attention" expressions in the photos I took today

Smokey Quartz (usually just Smokey unless he's in trouble). My baby boy, the first pet I ever got as an adult, my handsome man. Also a rancid, spoiled rotten, terrible, horrible, no good, very bad trash man. 100% one of those stupid criminals, might have been a Florida Man in a past life. Rating: 10/10, horrible little beastie who's also my sweet son.

Ada (she has many middle names but they require too much explaining). Queen of the Universe, at least she assumes. Belongs to my sibling, though I'm sure she thinks it's the other way around. One of those "we got you as an emotional support animal, not as an animal who needs emotional support!" type adoptions. Overgrooms due to anxiety/stress and has in fact, been diagnosed with the cat version of OCD. The reason we can't buy clay litter and have to buy more expensive, potentially digestible litters (currently corn cob) as she developed pica during a rough patch of a flea infestation at our old place that turned into a compulsive desire to eat clay litter (her iron will be fine and she will still sprint for clay litter like it's a tasty treat, we did in fact, briefly use cheap clay litter when we first got Poe and we had to isolate her during her heat before we got her spayed bc she was peeing on everything, and post surgery since Smokey can be mildly aggressive sometimes). Self proclaimed cheese slut, doesn't know how to shut up. Rating: 10/10, she's Just a Girl

Miss Edgar Allen Poe, usually Poe for short (also responds to Miss/Baby Poe, Baby Girl, Baby, Poe-Poe, Ed, and Edgar). Lucky Friday the 13th cat distribution system find, who is just the best behaved baby. She has never done anything wrong in her entire 14 months ish of life. Sweet angel child, despite her adoptive older siblings being terrible influences. Rating: 10/10 perfect angel

no but really, I think it fits him really well! I had thought his UM would probably involve something kinda sleight-of-handy or pickpockety! and I looooved that it made such a nice loop-around back to episode 1. ❤️ I was. kind of half-expecting him to just run out and punch Riddle in the nose again. but instead this time 'twas he who offed the queen's head! it was great! and he did it while stone-cold terrified out of his mind! because Ace is the only remotely normal or well-adjusted person at NRC and therefore the only one who is like "we're going to literally die, this is super effed up". but he did it anyway!!!! I AM SO PROUD

the only prayer i need is in this slow morning of dappled sunlight shining through the sliver of open curtain. i lay my head back onto your chest like an altar, a peck left on your cheek as an offering to the powers that be. perhaps calling this "morning" is generous, at 2:32 pm. whatever. it's sunday. at least to us. right here, now. my church-day best a pair of flannel pajama pants, and yours my old t-shirt. if believing in God was as easy as whispering "5 more minutes" to the ceiling, i think the guy would have stood a chance. for now, faith remains hidden out from the chill of my room full of winter. under the sheets. warm skin. sleep-filled eyes. and this is the first life i've met you in, but i know the dust we are from and the ash we will return to are the same.
