After God Games and fans reactions to it I am swiftly reminded that Ares is the most misunderstood out of the Greek gods. I see people mentioning that Ares argument is silly cause he expected Odysseus to fight Scylla or that he only cared about Athena nearly dying because he's the protector of women. That he just want violence and nothing else, but that is not what he represents.

Athena represents the glory of war, the strategy, the conquest, the victory, she represents the good things that are viewed in war. While Ares represents the truth, he's the chaos, the carnage, the loss, he represents the ugly sides of war. That is what fuels his argument, he's angry that he just sacrificed his men without trying to figure out another way, he's angry that he didn't stand by his men like they were equals, cause Ares represents the ugly side of war and therefore, represents the loss that comes from it.

It's why he's the one paired with Aphrodite, it's why one of his kids it Eros. It's also why he cares when Athena is struck down, it is because she's his sister, but it's also likely because this is the first time he's seen her actually care about mortals beyond them being soldiers (in the context of Epic). It's why the thing that gets him to agree to release Odysseus is Athena showing care for Telemachus, not the objectivity of Athena's other arguments.

Now I'm high on caffeine so random thoughts hits me again. love in paradise Athena dives into Odysseus memories if I remember it correctly? Eh seems like so, and see all the sht he went through. If Athena flew and dive around so gracefully like an owl , I like to think that in Are's case the part of "let's see where you been" It would be him jump down and punching through Penelope's memory with it shattered like in glass shades and each ones he went through he just keep on punching until he landed right on the last remains of the boat trying to look for Penelope. "Where the heck r u girl" Loll sry me drunk.

Everytime Ares departed, a scattering of vulture feathers, the scent of burning torches and carrion and a slight ringing through one’s bones, precise like a blade sliding across a whetstone rather than a deafening thunderclap would be all that remained of his presence.

This time, the only thing that rang over and over in Penelope’s ears were Ares’s final words. Goodbye.

Now since this is pretty lit, I wonder how "My goodbye" Between Ares and Penelope will turn out. Surely Ares wouldn't let his spartan girlie astray 😥

But it canonically happened. What could she possibly do to disappointed him so much? If Athena is pissed bc ody didn't kill the Cyclop how would it turn out for penny, she'd have done the opposite right? And Ares try to stop her for some reason. Could the Cyclops friends try to help him but penny killed them too or maybe the Cyclop had a baby so when penny kill him the baby was left alone?? Since Ares is circling around comrades and family stuff. I dunno I'm just ranting lol.
