This is actually the only book in the franchise I haven’t finished, the characters felt so off to me in the first few chapters, but it’s amazing just how much this fandom refuses to accept the book as a legitimate part of the series years later. Sometimes I still look up fanfiction and there’s very little indication that the events of the book happened. Based on what I’ve heard about certain character developments and deaths, I’m fine with that.
I think there might have even been talk about a collaborative fan rewrite?

The only Asian characters in Riordan’s work outside of The 39 Clues are Zia Rashid, Samirah al-Abbas, Drew Tanaka and Frank Zhang... the last three do come from wealthy backgrounds, but only Drew is antagonistic.

Has the next book after day of doom come out yet??
Oh, wow, that reminds me I really need to update the blog description, thank you! Yes, in fact, nine books have come out:
Nowhere To Run
Breakaway
Countdown
Flashpoint
Mission Titanic
Mission Hindenberg
Mission Hurricane
Mission Atomic
Outbreak
Ask about them at the library! If they’re not there, then you can definitely buy them online!

Cara Pierce: You're so dramatic!
Ian Kabra, with a rose between his lips, throwing glitter around, dressed in evening wear during the day, draping himself across a piano: I have no idea what you're talking about.

Of course, one of the main charcters of Hero's of Olympues is asian-candien. Another is Indian, so it's not that bad.He just has more represantion of these pepole overall.

I don't know if read any of other Rick Riordan's books, but I noticed something interesting. While most of the rich preppy antagonists in fiction are white,in Riordan's books they're Asian,or partly Asian. Drew Tanaka, from Shadow of the Serpent/Heroes of Olympus-Japanese American. The Kabra Siblings're half-Indians. Vikram is an Indian name,I'm sure. Besides, both have dark skins. I'm not sure if this is good representation... 😐😐
That is interesting. I don’t really know enough about anti-Asian racism and Asian representation, or Riordan’s books in general, to weigh in. Does anyone else want to?

yo so Mission Hurricane is coming out soon so here’s my usual spoilers post even though the tag is all but dead but still doesn’t hurt
Like always, this fandom is pretty small so we’re usually good about this, but just a reminder that we tend to say that ALL spoilers should be tagged and put under a cut for two weeks after the release (so until February 9th). After that you can drop the cut, but still tag it with “mh spoilers” for at least another two weeks in case anyone wants to blacklist it.
That’s all, hopefully we’re all good with that. As always, if anyone suggests a modification to this I’m sure the fandom would be more than happy to hear it Aight great thanks bye xoxo -Katie

Ian: Hey Amy, are you okay?
Amy: Sure, yeah, I'm fine. We better get moving now.
Ian: Are you sure you're not hurt?
Amy: Not a scratch on me.
Ian: What about emotional trauma? Do you want to talk about it?
Amy: I'm fine, really.
Jake: (sarcastic) Oh, I see that I definitely have nothing to be jealous about whatsoever. Ian is /clearly/ not into you at all.
ps: am i the only one who ships jake and amy in thsi fandom
(just saw this now, sorry for the wait!)
I actually shipped Jamy pre-DoD. Currently, I'm not personally happy with how it's being portrayed in canon, so I haven't been finding much inspiration to make Jamy posts, but submissions are definitely welcome! I remember the last time shipping came up on this blog, some people mentioned that they supported Jamy. It's been a while, so I can't tell who still does, but here are some places where you can probably find some Jamy work, and maybe other shippers can use this post to comment and find each other?

Answer for anon
Sorry for not answering more directly, but the general etiquette in this tumblr fandom is usually to put everything spoilery under a cut for the first two weeks after a book comes out and there’s no way to do that with an ask (and anonymous ones aren’t privately answerable).
I don’t want to make you wait that long, so instead of postponing this by two weeks, I’ll copy and paste the question with my reply under a cut here:
(Mission Hindenburg spoiler warning)
Anonymous said to 39conversations: Hamead shippers still clinging to their last shreds of hope: *cry*
Okay, confession: I haven’t gotten to read the book yet (don’t mind spoilers, though), so I’m missing some context. But could there be room to headcanon Ham as bi/pan/other? Many people are only attracted to one gender, but there are also people who are attracted to multiple. I’m not sure exactly what it says in the book, though.

HELLO LOVELIES so Mission Hindenburg officially comes out in two days even though SOME people are getting it early, but I just wanted to real quick do my spiel about spoilers

After that you can drop the cut, but still tag it with “mh spoilers” for at least another two weeks in case anyone wants to blacklist it.

Ian: I have to say, that Chadwick Templeton sure was a nasty piece of work. He was a cheater.
Amy: After all you've been through, that's your definition of nasty?
Dan: Your mother shot your sister once.
Hamilton: Your father took part in a plot to humiliate you in front of the Cahill world and throw you out of the leadership - literally.
Dan: Not to mention all the times you kidnapped Amy and me and threatened us during the clue hunt.
Ian: Yes, but Chadwick cheated at TENNIS.

I just want to remind everyone that although I personally prefer Amian, this blog is friendly to and accepts submissions about other ships, too! This includes, but is not limited to, Jamy and Carian. Supporters of both those ships are completely welcome on this blog.

Outcast: Why are you kids in charge? You haven't proven yourselves yet!
Outcast: To demonstrate this, I'm going to recreate some of the biggest, messiest, deadliest, most absolutely horrific disasters we Cahills have made in half a millennium of ruthless squabbling. All over trying to find the recipe to a serum that, as temporarily useful as it is, ends up killing whatever person tries to use it.
Outcast: Which you guys found within just a few months of starting to search for it.
Outcast: And all of the death in that wasn't caused by you, but by this one adult who technically wasn't even supposed to be involved in the first place.
Outcast: This will really prove my point about you guys being unfit for power.
