Im curious, how did you get good at miscellaneous items/decorations and details in your drawings? I struggle a lot with it so Im wondering how do you do it ?

Personally I could stare at a basic sketch and think what to add, then I go to draw it and I just can’t seem to make it look good or “fit in” or just can’t come up with it.

First of all THANK YOU!! To be fully transparent, a lot of my art consists of characters designed by other people, so I honestly don't have to think about it too hard a lot of the time. I just follow the character's references in those cases.

In terms of my own designs, like a lot of things, it comes with practise. I've always really admired other artists who fill their designs with tiny little details, so it's something I've kept in the back of my mind as an art goal. If you're struggling to think of things to add, it helps to look at references (Personally, I have a giant Pinterest board of clothes and accessories), particularly if you have a specific aesthetic in mind. Having an aesthetic/theme can be REALLY helpful because it helps to narrow down potential options of things to include. Deciding what to add can be daunting when you have the entire world in front of you.

I've also just been on the internet for a long time, so I have a big visual library of little details that I really like including in my character designs, as well as other artists that I follow whose own preferences have inspired me over the years. VTuber designs can be really helpful to study since they tend to have a loooot of detail.

Don't be afraid of trial and error!! It can take a long time to land on something that you like. If it helps, some things I always go back to are leaves/plants, jewellery/shiny metallic things, freckles/sparkles, tattoos, printed fabric, varied material textures, etc etc etc.

When it comes to making it fit in with the rest of the design, repetition is really powerful. If a specific detail is repeated throughout the design, it just becomes part of the design rather than feeling out of place or tacked on. Colour is also very important to making things cohesive. Staying within your colour pallet while adding details is important!! You could take a look at oshi decora fashion for inspiration here, they manage to pack a ton of little details in while still staying within their theme.

My less serious advice is to become a JJBA fan. Hirohiko Araki's influence on his artist fans is very powerful LOL
