“How You Leave” by Dreadnought

I wanted to drop a recommendation for How You Leave by Dreadnought (the author of “Baghdad Waltz”). It’s a Bucky-centric canon divergence fic with Bucky escaping Hydra and joining SHEILD before Steve gets defrosted and being present for Steve’s integration into the modern world. Warning, it is tagged for Major Character Death. There is plenty of lead-up, so you’re prepared, but it’s still very emotional. I cried through the last 4 chapters.

It’s a beautifully written, heartbreaking work with an astonishing amount of respect to humanity and the characters. I cannot recommend it enough.

Bucky as a Congressman

Lowk it frustrates me when people are like "Bucky being a congressman doesn't make any sense!! Let him retire!!!" What is he going to do when he retires? Drink margs on a beach????

After all that he's gone through as TWS w/Shieldra and in CW and the lessons he's learned from TFATWS, does it not make sense for him to step up and represent/speak up for others? I don't think he's the kind of person to let injustice go by without taking action against it. And as the WS, he probably is intimately familiar with people in power exploiting it to maintain a status quo or gain more privilege. TFATWS only emphasizes this with the Grand Repatriation Council and the US Senators doing whatever they please with the shield. I wouldn't trust the government after any of this, which is exactly the arc we see Steve go through in TWS and CW. If Steve could tell the government "Fuck you I don't trust you," then Bucky can decide to do something about it instead of feeling powerless against it. I seriously don't think he could "retire" easy knowing that people like that exist. Maybe I'm missing something?

I welcome this new Bucky and I'm extremely excited to see him do work that fulfills HIM. I would love to see him do some reparative and restorative work though I'm sure Marvel will likely go a superhumans route with him similar to how She-Hulk became a lawyer representing superhumans and AOS had Shield help inhumans adjust to their powers. Maybe this is the arc in Thunderbolts? I actually haven't seen Secret Invasion or BNW and don't follow comics. Thoughts?

there is something horrifically grim to it, but illustrations for gaza and palestinians tend to catch more mass attention that actual photos of people. this made me feel incredibly helpless for a long while, seeing both how people would rather look at a neat drawing of red black green and white than look a human in the eyes, and how online platforms would rather push a viral drawing while suppressing those begging for help at the same time.

a way to cope with this feeling has been taking advantage of it to directly guide people to helping palestinians.

if art gets better traction, then there’s an incredible amount of good that can be done by creating art that immediately links to fundraisers. creating art of the many images of those who are asking for help.

within hours of posting my drawing, there has been jumps in the thousands for bashar from gaza’s fundraiser. it’s a small effort in the grand scheme of things. it’s not a fix it. but it’s something good. please take care of each other and do what you can. i think this could help a lot of people if a lot of people did it.
