Also that last paragraph in the context of POI would definitely be about Harold.

Yes they got him back together with Grace yay (though an argument can be made that over the time that they have been apart he's changed so much... would they still be as compatible to put it in The Machine's language as they were?).

But they also killed half of his new found family.

He lost his dear friend before the show started and we see how much it changed him how much it weighs on him to this day.

And now he also lost a good friend, two daughters (one who really is by all means his daughter because he thinks the Machine is gone and the other whom he came to love as his daughter) and his best friend / partner / one could argue other half not even in the romantic sense, they really were pieces of one whole.

And all of them died because of him and what is even worse *for* him.

So getting him back together with Grace after that doesn't really even feel like a happy ending. More like a consolation prize.

And I don't mean to diminish Grace's and their relationship's value I don't... I just know that those losses hurt him deeply and I don't think he will ever be able to truly be happy even with Grace.

Those people were so close to him they were practically pieces of him, bricks in the foundation of who he is, and if they are gone - as said in another good but hated by the writers' show - you just become a pile of rubber crumbling into dust.

I just watched (because apparently I love hurting myself) Elias' and Root's ... you know what scenes and now I can't stop sobbing like a baby

I know, I know that you can't really portray a war without portraying causalities, and in order to drive the point home about how horrible war is and that it doesn't spare anyone, at least one or two of them should be the people/characters we really, really care about... I k n o w

But I'm tired of shows killing off main characters. I'm tired of shows telling us the world is a bad place and good guys often have to die to defeat the bad ones. It's an awful message, if you think about it, and... even if that's how they think things would go in reality, would it really kill the writers to show us a more optimistic version of reality, the one where the good guys - the guys that went through a lot already, for a number of reasons, one of which is just life being cruel to them, another being what they had to do to help / save someone - survive and get to have the family and home and a little bit of happiness they deserve?

Would it really be such a bad idea, to show us that version of reality?

So we can watch it and we can think that, no matter how bleak the reality is, you never give up because it all will work out in the end?

Would it be such a terrible message?

And who cares if that's true or not. No one knows, really, if it's true, if that's how things work.

But, what if we can influence our life with our minds and hearts? What if hope that a happy ending is possible really is a very powerful thing?

Would it really be such a terrible idea to show us worlds where the characters we come to care about and love, the characters we come to associate with ourselves, one way or another, the characters whom we would like to be more like, maybe, at the end of it all, no matter how bleak things get along the way (and I really am a fan of angst with happy ending, happy endings always hit harder after things seem bleak for a while), get to live and love and laugh, to have the happiness they deserve and people who love and care about them and don't die tragically so they can have that hard-worn happiness at such an awful price they will never be able to fully enjoy it because they will always think about those they lost, those that died because of them, those that will never get to taste this freedom, happiness, this wind on their faces, the sun, this coffee, while they do?

Would it?

Lizzington shippers, fam, grandmas and grandpas, can I have a moment of your attention, please?

It's not a secret that, while some people in Lizzington community are still active, whether they write or make gifs or keep our dash full of Lizzington even in this trying times ( @melbob26-blog, thank you for this! ), Lizzington community as a whole went into hibernation over the last couple of years.

And I get it, interests change, especially when one show ends and there's another ongoing, moving on from the show that ended is totally natural, especially when it didn't give your favorite characters the happy ending they deserved.

I get it.

Hell, for a pretty lengthy while there I focused on other ships and shows, too, especially after TBL ended ended last year.

But you know what I realized earlier today, when I reread some of the old fics, browsed through gifsets and text posts, watched some fanvids?

It's the show that ended, for some in 2021, for others in 2023. And the only thing that means is that it cannot disappoint us anymore.

( it's not like we were suddenly deprived of quality content, because let's face it, the fans have been the main source of the quality lizzington content for years now, while the show gave us mere crumbs, on a good day )

But Red and Liz?

They are still out there, fighting criminals, catching Blacklisters, travelling the world, shamelessly flirting, toppling shadow organizations, raising Agnes and/or any other children they have, and generally being the sexy badass power couple they are!

Nothing changed in that regard.

So why would we mourn them, when they are out there, healthy and happy and in the middle of yet another adventure? I'm sure right this moment Red is drawing Liz into another one of his heists and she's only too happy to join him, even though she pretends that she's not, for the sake of the game.

There's literally no reason for us to stop writing, giffing, editing, sharing theories and headcanons and memes and just talking about our favorite couple.

And by writing all of this, I want to propose something daring to you:

Let's revive the Lizzington community!

Let's rewatch earlier seasons and gif the hell out of them because it's been a while and because precious moments between these two are not going to become less precious even if it's giffed 10 or 100 more times, not to mention that ever gifmaker's style is different, so there are virtually no two identical gifsets as there are no two identical snow flakes.

Let's make fanvideos, picspams, picture edits, fanart, moodboards! The amount of songs, quotes, moments etc that can inspire you is virtually endless!

Let's write fics, let's explore AUs, let's give each other prompts and challenge each other to try something new or practice some aspect of writing, like writing kisses or AUs or hugs or making up Blacklisters etc!

Let's share headcanons and theories and ideas and what our versions of Red and Liz are like, because everyone has their own unique versions of Red and Liz living in their head, and it's just beautiful, if you ask me!

Let's reblog stuff, filling each other's dashes with Lizzington!

Let's scream about Lizzington because no one does it like them!

Let's revive the Lizzington Community, we all miss it!

A modern / soulmate AU where Ed and Izzy end up together in every incarnation and, though their relationship is not always easy, they want to grow old together but Izzy dies first, when they just get the first taste of what growing old together would feel like, every. single. time. And Edward remembers everything - every previous variation of their relationship, every previous incarnation of them, of Izzy, every Izzy's death - the moment Izzy's heart stops.

But this time is different. This time Izzy has a near death experience but survives and maybe he even dies, just for a minute or two, but the rule still works and Ed remembers everything. And now he's terrified of his Izzy still following the same fate and hellbent on making sure it doesn't happen.

And maybe he tells Izzy about what he remembers or maybe he's afraid he won't believe him. Maybe Izzy doesn't and only gets worried about him, more worried the more Ed seems to be consumed by those memories, this fear, this determination. Maybe Ed is trying to find ways for Izzy to regain his memories.

Either way they find the way to break the circle, even though Izzy has another couple of scares before Ed / they figure out the solution.

And oh... oh, what if they never, in all those versions of their relationship, confessed their love for each other? Maybe they said the words but didn't mean them, maybe the timing was wrong, or maybe they meant it but said it in different words, lots of different words.

And what if eventually Izzy says those words and means them with his last breath and dies and Ed finally says those words and means them and apologizes for not realizing it sooner etc and Izzy comes back?

Bonus points if every time Izzy died in the past, Ed was the direct or indirect cause of it. Like, once Izzy shielded him with his body from a sword or a bullet or both, on different occasions, and once he had a heart attack because this dumbass stressed him out too much... and who knows, maybe once Ed, accidentally or not, killed him himself, like he came close to in the show.
