Advice for if your practice is feeling stressful or unfulfilling (that isn't 'just stop practicing')
Before you expand: long text post!
I think it's interesting that the first line of advice stressed and unhappy practitioners often receive is 'stop practicing! take a break,' because besides a breather this doesn't actually do anything. When a person is done with that break they're still going to have the same stressful, unfulfilling practice they did before.
Stop practicing is useful advice for someone who is about to deep-fry their brain in uncontrolled Witch Fire. It's useful advice for someone who experiences unexplainable catastrophe every time they engage in magic.
I'm not sure it's useful advice for people who want to practice and are actively seeking help figuring out how.
So here are some ideas. Feel free to add your own.
If your practice has too much of a time load:
Scrape over-engineered ritual. Examine ritual formats. Are you spending a majority of your practice time engaging in elaborate ritual? Where can that be paired down?
Swap ritual for enchantments. If ritual performs an action (laying a compass), can you substitute for that ritual action by making enchanted objects that take less time to activate (enchanted compass altar cloth)?
Minimize ingredients. If you regularly perform spells that require lengthy enchantment of ingredients, can you use fewer ingredients to achieve the same results? If you're using more than 3 correspondences for any spell, is this because you are wise in your own ways, or because you just feel that more is merrier?
Mash rituals together. Do you have a string of rituals, even small ones, that you perform one after the other? Is it possible to reorganize these so they're all done at once, in the same ritual? For example, setting out an offering to the gods, a different offering for the ancestors, another for helper spirits, etc. Can you combine these all into one single offering?
Check for over-tending. Is it possible that you're repeating magical acts, like feeding wards and cleansing, more often than you need to? Did you arrive at this schedule through trial and error, or did you just guess this is how often you should do them?
Check for your own levelup: spell maintenance. If it's been a while since you re-evaluated your ritual/offering/maintenance schedule, your increase in skills may mean you need to do these tasks less often to achieve the same result.
Check for your own levelup: techniques and routines. Some techniques, like carefully entering trance, grounding, and centering, are like training wheels that wear ruts into our paths of magic. As we improve in skill, old rituals and techniques that have been carefully couched in these helpful devices may become ingrained in us so that we can perform them in almost any state of mind, much faster and easier than we could before. Experiment with any technique you've been doing for a while and see if you still need to perform time-consuming meditative or focusing techniques before you can perform the skill.
Be reasonable with your own goals. I find most 'laywitches' give themselves daily and weekly schedules that would put actual cloistered monks to shame. Did your spirits tell you they expect daily offerings, or did you decide on that an run with it? Where are you overcompensating and overexerting in your path when nobody, including yourself, asked you to?
If your practice has too much of a work load:
Much of the advice of the prior section applies. Also,
Just work less. Are you putting in 100% effort when 20% or 30% would do? Are you treating every act of magic like a performance review that will control the outcome of your magical career? I'm not being sarcastic; an actual solution to your path being too much work is to just put in less effort. If you've never tried this you may be shocked at how effective magic can be when you're only doing what needs to be done.
Find simpler, more reasonable stuff. Find new techniques, and spell and ritual formats that are paired down to fit the amount of effort that's reasonable to exert for any given magical act. If you can't work with correspondences without a lengthy act of activation, find a way to cast simple spells that doesn't rely on correspondences.
Limit research and prep. Ask yourself how much research you reasonably need to get started on any given project. Remember that a huge amount of a witch's education is experiential; you will probably never know enough until you've already done it three or four times.
Be goal-oriented; prioritize actions. Ask yourself if you've set arbitrary workloads before you can get started with anything, such as forcing yourself to write artistic grimoire pages before you're allowed to perform a ritual you're interested in.
Learn skills to help prioritize actions. If your practice is consumed by acts of upkeep such as cleansing and empowering objects, focus on learning energy sensing so you can reasonably determine whether or not an object actually needs to be cleansed or empowered.
Administrate your own practice - what can go on the back burner? Make a list of all your active ongoing projects and maintenance, including upkeep of energy batteries, spells that require maintenance, and situations you want to change and are casting spells on. Prioritize them; see which ones you can set aside.
Restructure your projects to minimize maintenance. Consolidate spells and projects where possible. For example, if you have multiple protection spells for many people that require upkeep, condense them all onto a protection altar so you can feed and tend to them all at once.
Work in batch and bulk. See where you can do batch work to lighten your load. You can bulk enchant candles and incense, instead of enchanting incense every time you do a ritual. You can enchant oils, waters, and incense to feed your spells, taking time out of upkeep.
Levelup your charging and maintenance skills. Learn energy work to attach energy tethers to batteries and other important projects so they're able to drink from the wellspring you attach them to, and stay charged.
Scrape routines that don't serve you. Examine any daily routines. Are you doing them because they're helping you, or because you feel like you're supposed to be doing something every day? See if you can replace more intensive daily routines with something less tiring, like a prayer to your path itself.
If your practice feels too silly:
You have a right to privacy. Cocooning is valid. It's fine to take steps to limit who can see and potentially judge your practice. You can keep things to yourself until you're ready.
Tend to your emotional wellness. Self-therapy, in any form you feel comfortable with, can help mitigate the inner eye of judgement.
Reduce your beliefs to palatable doses. Believing in magic for only the duration of your work is perfectly fine. You don't have to 'believe-believe' 24/7. If you're not ready to integrate the belief of magic and spirits into your baseline worldview, don't - you can agree to buy in to those beliefs only while you practice techniques and cast spells, and then put them away the rest of the time.
Scrape stuff you really can't get past. Ask yourself what about your practice feels silly. Are there trappings - like altars, ritual movements, and speaking aloud - that you don't like? Change them. Is the idea that religious faith itself is a bit cringe? Self-therapy (or you know, the regular kind) may be assistive.
Ask for help modifying your process. Is there something very specific about a ritual or technique that you just can't get past, but you don't know how to change it? Research and see what other substitute rituals are available. Ask others and see if they can help you brainstorm.
Embrace the silliness. It's not going anywhere. Believing in your practice and holding it dear and sacred is not the same as being ✨super serious gravitas✨ all the time. There are lots of things about witchcraft, and the acts of the witch, that are silly and make you realize you're doing something ridiculous. I came out here at 2 am after it's been raining to climb down a slippery riverbed to get a branch of a tree that I think is talking to me?? Because some medieval guy said Tuesday is the planet Mars and I think trees talk to me?! Ridiculous. Yet I still love it dearly in a sacred place in my heart. It can be silly and glorious at the same time.
Cast a wider net. See if you're barking up the wrong tree. Traditional Witchcraft, folk magic, lodge magic, chaos magic, eclectic neopaganism... these things are not interchangeable. If you've never explored different traditions, why not give it a go? You might find another path that feels a lot more natural to you. A lot of people fall into a certain path just because they don't know what else they could be doing!
If your practice feels unfulfilling:
What are you doing to bring yourself fulfillment? Why did you get into witchcraft? Make a list of your top 5 reasons (if you have that many). Which techniques, spells, and rituals are you regularly performing are designed to deliver these desires to you? If one of your goals of practicing witchcraft is to 'feel connected,' how often are you performing acts where the only goal is to make you feel connected?
Grow your path deliberately in the direction of your needs. What do you wish you had in your life right now? Is it the feeling of being loved? Inner peace? Feeling like nature is alive and watching you? Look for what techniques and rituals in your practice will bring these things to you. If there are none, find or develop them.
Ask for help and share your feelings. If you work with gods and spirits, do you regularly tell them how you feel about your practice and ask them for help finding fulfillment?
Find contentment in the process. It's vital to find joy in the process. If you have regular routines or upkeep you need to do, how can you modify it so that process in and of itself is satisfying to you? Try considering the visceral element of witchcraft: the words, scents, sounds, moods, and thoughts that you want to experience in your present moment. Witchcraft is experiential: a great deal of the experience you create in the tidepools of routine is under your control.
Contemplate the larger purpose. Some witches do have magical chores and responsibilities they can't or shouldn't shirk. If this is true of you, and you can't modify those routines, try refocusing on why you're doing them and the importance they hold in your path. See if you can find balance elsewhere in your practice that feels rejuvenating; sort of a 'work-play' balance of your own craft.
Set short-term goals you can celebrate. Are you undertaking a lot of 'workout routines' that are designed to basically make you magically buff, or get good at a particular skill, but you're doing them with no endgoal? Try creating short-term goals that excite your sense of wonder or accomplishment. Like, practicing tarot until you can read the Celtic Cross, or practicing energy work until you can make a four-element layered energy shield. Build goalposts for yourself, both in the short and long-term, and celebrate your successes.
Scrape routines you're not doing for any good reason. Are your regular practices things you're doing because they fill you with mystery and wonder, or because you're just pretty sure that's the kind of thing witches do? If you're bored or unfulfilled by a particular routine, consider stopping it altogether, especially if you can't think of any short-term goals that it's helping you work towards. Think about the reasons you got into witchcraft: what practices would help you fulfill those reasons, while also feeling good to practice?
Seek out a likeminded community. A good working group of friends can be invaluable. My close group of witch friends, whom I've been hanging out with for years, started as a Tumblr post asking if anyone wanted to make a small server to study witchcraft. Reach out and see who's out there to study with, talk to, and practice with. It can be loads of fun to do short-term study and practice challenges with friends, and a great way to get feedback and support.
Evaluate your spiritual relationships. Although it can be painful and challenging, sometimes we enter into our paths working with gods and spirits that after some time, we need to move on from. Is it possible your path has become stagnant because you don't want to keep working with a god or spirit that your path has been built around? It may be time to see how you can move on.
When 'take a break' might be helpful advice to heal your practice:
Of course, YMMV :)
'Taking a break' doesn't mean stop being a witch, stop believing in magic, or stop 100% of your practice. It can also mean putting a lot of projects on the back burner, switching to bare-minimum (or below minimum) maintenance, and squashing regular routines.
I'm talking specifically about taking a break in the interest of your own practice - not the conditions under which someone is ""allowed"" to stop practicing witchcraft.
Take a break to rest and let your seeds germinate. 'Fallow periods,' when you have no desire or motivation to practice witchcraft, and when it seems like there's nothing for you to do, are normal. Some witches experience this cyclically, perhaps during certain seasons or when predictable life conditions are met. There's no need to force yourself to practice when it's just not flowing. The snow on your mountaintops needs to melt to replenish your waterways, bestie. There's nothing wrong with you, the sun just isn't out yet.
When you're hitting yourself with a hammer. When something in your practice is triggering or harming you, and stopping will have no consequences, then stopping your practice for a while is probably a good idea. Use the downtime to seek healing or reformat your practice.
To open your life up for necessary work. Not every witch can out-path every problem. Consider taking a break when the problem is something you will have time and energy to work on if not for your regular magical practice.
When you're about to deep-fry your brain with Witch Fire. Consider taking a break when the problem with your practice is that you are practicing too often - such as fatigue due to excessive spellwork, divinatory obsession, trouble staying out of the spirit world (compulsive astral travel), or focus on spirits/magic/the spirit worlds are starting to erode your home, school, or work life.
To let the ripples settle. When you've done so much magic or ritual work that your life is a boat on a stormy sea, and you just need to batten down the hatches for a while and let things settle.

Prompt 17: Cock warming
Pairing: Raymond Reddington/female reader
Rating: E (minors DNI)
Warnings: cockwarming
Length: ~650 words
Summery: a tired Raymond wakes you up in middle of the night
Notes: I know this is short and really late but in my defence I’ve had a fever for the past two days and is currently blowing my nose every 5mins so honestly I think we should all be grateful that anything even remotely coherent made it to paper.
AO3
It was still dark when you woke up – you weren’t sure if it was early morning or late at night. You rolled over, about to go back to sleep when you heard a noise from somewhere in the apartment. You almost reached for the gun hidden below the night stand but then you recognized the footsteps. They sounded heavy, tired, but you would recognize him everywhere. You smiled and snuggled back under the covers, he would join you soon enough.
Sure enough, you heard the bedroom door open and Raymond’s soft steps as he entered the room. You heard the soft swish as he took off his jacket, the soft click of his shoulder holster as he placed it on the dresser – layers after layers you heard him take off, carefully fold and place on the bench at the foot of your bed. You felt the mattress dip as he slid in behind you and planted a kiss on your shoulder.
“Raymond,” you whispered as he ran his nose across your shoulder blades.
“Shh, go back to sleep,” his voice was barely more than rumble against your skin.
“Is everybody okay?” you asked that every time he had been away without you and his answer was usually somewhere along the same lines.
You felt him nod behind you, “everybody is home and safe.” He kept his voice low and ran his soft lips across your shoulders. You could practically feel the exhaustion roll off of him and yet he didn’t seem to be able to stop kissing your sleep-warmed skin.
He ran his nose up your neck, planting a soft kiss to your hairline before burying his face in your hair and you could feel him take a deep breath, inhaling your scent.
He groaned softly and moved even closer, your bodies now completely flush under the covers, and placed a warm hand on your hip. “Can I...?”
“Always,” you breathed with a smile and moved your leg up and back to lie on top of his. It was another one of your little rituals, especially when he came home like this: too exhausted but unwilling to be apart from you.
His hand on your hip moved up under your long night shirt – technically one of his that you had borrowed – and found the waistband of your underwear, dragging it down your legs. He grabbed your leg, hiking it further up his and opened you up to give him better access to your leaking core – making both of you groan as his fingertips brushed against you.
You felt him reach behind you and then the blunt head of his already half-hard member as he ran it through your nether lips, catching the liquid that had already gathered there. He then sank into you, slowly, both of you savouring the feeling of simply being connected in such an intimate way.
His nose returned to the shell of your ear and you heard him give a sigh as he finally bottomed out and came to a stop, his fat cock nestled deep within you.
Your own body felt heavy, both with the exquisite, pleasurable stretch of having him inside you and the simple fatigue after having been woken up in the middle of the night.
“Go back to sleep,” he repeated in your ear as he placed your leg back down against the mattress and made sure you were both covered by the duvet.
“You too,” you whispered into the darkness.
You knew you would feel it in the morning, you always did when you had spend a night with him buried inside of you, but you knew it was worth it when you heard his breathing even out before going heavy as he drifted off to sleep; both of you feeling happy and safe, tangled up in one another.

Trial By Lightning [Chapter 2]
Inali I
Tumblr media
"For the price of my soul I am clothed in gold; forever I will watch, but all attachments run like rain into the river." The Lightning Codex, page 3.
The Dracozu Codex is closely guarded from rain and moisture-- one of the few items that receives such treatment, as the entire region is subject to near-daily tropical storms. Made of paper and adorned with colored images, the Codex tells the tale of the creation of the world, the Dracozu themselves, and the dragons that are purported to roam Hyrule.

⛈️ KRAKOOM! Inali and Kheel are stuck between a rock and a hard place... or maybe more accurately, stuck between a guy who can shoot water out of his mouth so fast it cuts vines, and a deadly lightning storm above their heads. Yikes! Er... well... all things considered, they did make it to their intended destination!
Bonus fun under the cut:

Water is hardcore, bro 💦👀💥
Shout out to like the fish enthusiast & the Mesoamerican culture enthusiast reading my comic (🤝) because yes the archerfish isn't native to the Americas, but it's tropical and riparian, and it's just too weird & funny of a thing to not use... So, close enough I guess haha! Actually, maybe he's originally from the domain the Dracozu trade with for their jade, or he's a product of an inter-domain marriage! Maybe the same goes for Balisti (Hawaiian triggerfish). Anyway he was literally just meant to appear as a one-off character to cut Kheel out of the vines, but I kind of love how bizarre he is. Gonna have to use this fella again.
The other fish I used here are the electric eel, armored catfish, and leaf fish. All funky dudes found in the Amazon, all with interesting characteristics and abilities!
if you can tell me what the inspiration for the name Storii Snurlesun is I will give you a virtual medal of honor (it's a bit niche so don't stress hah)

Is Lemony's Kind Editor in the Netflix series?
Throughout the Netflix series, Lemony has used one of his infamous literary devices which I did not notice until rewatching it for the billionth time, when I was working on The Complete Works of Contradictory Logic in ASOUE. More on that to come.
Lemony uses a rather basic device which, I believe, can actually have an ENTIRELY radical new view on the show: Lemony speaks to the camera in the second person.
This just means he uses the pronouns 'you' and 'your', etc, when talking directly to camera.
e.g. TMM: "You could pretend the Duchess of Winnipeg had arrived, and had come to throw the Baudelaires a pony party at her chateau."
However, the 'you' could refer to Lemony's Unnamed Kind Editor. There are some points which back this up:
The Kind Editor is someone who does not know the story of the Baudelaires, they only know Lemony. This is why Lemony is the one to tell them the story of ASOUE.
The Kind Editor is NOT a member of V.F.D. This is why Lemony has to explain [either himself or via other characters] different V.F.D-related things that a member would've already known.
This logic can lead to the following:
Lemony is talking to his Kind Editor, who is filming VIDEO evidence to be used in court when Lemony clears his name and the names of the Baudelaires.
This means that the characters do not physically appear in ASOUE, but rather Lemony just imagines them saying the same words before actually saying them himself. This carries on from the idea (@snicketstrange) that Lemony used the Baudelaires' notes from An Incomplete History (series) or A Series of Unfortunate Events (book canon).
In TCC, the Baudelaires discover the SAME THING filmed by the SAME PERSON - but for ATWQ. Hence the reference to 'Stain'd-by-the-Sea'...
So what's the point?
THEORY: Lemony is using typewritten and video evidence, as filmed by his Kind Editor, in order to clear the names of all 4 people; the Baudelaires and himself.
But who is this mysterious Kind Editor? Many have suggested it to be Moxie Mallahan, as she was only friends with Lemony and no-one else from V.F.D.
However, given the circumstances described, I now present an alternative solution: Beatrice Baudelaire II.
In TBL, Beatrice II is 10 years old, capable of handling a camera. It provides an uncle-niece bonding opportunity for Lemony, and Beatrice gets to know the story of her adoptive parents (from her biological uncle).
Lemony is Beatrice's only hope of finding the Baudelaires, and Beatrice is Lemony's only hope of clearing the Baudelaires' names, as Lemony knows 100% that Beatrice is not an enemy or a spy of any kind.

"I'm Right Here"
[Donald Ressler x fem!reader]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Masterlist
Summary: You comfort Ressler during a party
Warnings: angst, fluff, hurt/comfort, panic attacks
Word Count: 500 words
A/N: This man means so much to me. Enjoy!
You were worried about him. He insisted you didn't need to be, but you were still worried about him.
It wasn’t hard for you to see when something was off with Donald Ressler. The way he had been acting tonight—quiet, withdrawn, a little more agitated than usual—was a sign that he wasn’t okay.
The mission was supposed to be a simple one—gather intel, keep an eye on the target, and get out. Nothing too complicated, just a quick operation with minimal risk.
Aram was talking to them through an earpiece, discussing details of the Blacklister’s profile with Keen, while Navabi was keeping her distance, her eyes scanning the crowd for potential threats. You glanced over at them and then back at Ressler. When his eyes darted to the hallway leading out of the main area, you knew he was about to disappear for a bit.
You debated for a second, then quietly made your way toward the back of the house, hoping to find him before he disappeared entirely. It didn’t take long. As you moved down the dimly lit corridor, you finally heard the faint sound of breathing—a little too ragged, a little too uneven.
Slowly, you rounded the corner, and there he was—sitting against the wall, his legs bent at an odd angle, his face buried in his hands.
You stopped a few feet away, unsure of how to approach, but the sight of him like this broke your heart. It wasn’t the strong, confident Ressler you knew. This was someone who was struggling, and it was clear he was fighting to hold it together.
"Ressler," you whispered, approaching slowly. "Hey, talk to me."
He startled at the sound of your voice, looking up at you with wide eyes, a flicker of embarrassment crossing his face. "I’m fine," he said, his voice strained. "You shouldn’t be in here."
"You’re not fine," you replied, "I know you better than that."
You sat beside him, your hand resting on his arm. "Breathe. I'm right here."
He shook his head, a small, frustrated laugh escaping him. "I’m supposed to be the one keeping it together. Everyone’s counting on me."
"Everyone’s counting on all of us," you said quietly. "That includes you. But you’re human too. You have limits too Ressler."
There was a long pause, and you could see him struggling with it, trying to push the feelings down, trying to keep the mask on. But it was like the dam had finally cracked, and he couldn’t hold it all in anymore.
"I don’t know what’s wrong with me," he said, his voice small now. In fact, you had never really seen him look so...weak. And you had seen him get shot, stabbed, tortured, a hundred times over.
You moved a little closer, carefully wrapping your arm around him. He leaned into you for a moment, his breath still shaky. He shook slightly under your touch.
"I'm right here Donald," you said quietly.
You didn't say his first name very often, so when you did it was pretty serious.
Because of that, this time, he believed you.

Building walls as a part of protection
I truly believe that when most witches fall short of success, it's not necessarily a failure of power or spellcrafting but rather a failure of strategy.
Witches can raise power and cast spells just fine and still not be able to accomplish goals. So when it comes to protection here are things I've learned, take what you like and leave the rest behind:
Do you actually have a magical wall or boundary that stops unwanted things from reaching you?
For this post, ward = protective wall; a division that creates discrete, defensible spaces
Conjuring good energies is not a ward
Cleansing negative energy is not a ward
Binding behaviors is not a ward
Banishing unwanted beings is not a ward
Calling guardians is not a ward
Cursing your enemies is not a ward
Asking gods for blessings is not a ward
A good place to start any protection is to BUILD A WALL.
This should be understood as a literal magical wall that is built within the spirit worlds that overlay our physical worlds.
Physical boundaries make the best anchor points for magical walls: the boundaries of your property, your house, the walls of the room, fences, cairns or markers, or encapsulating objects (your whole bed, your whole body)
Wall building spellcrafting and correspondences post
You can build walls by:
Making container spells with correspondences like stones, nails, wood, shells (sea creatures, nuts, eggs).
Making sigils that define the existence of the barrier
Going around physical boundaries and raising and fixing energies
Placing magically potent amulets or symbols along the boundary line, including symbols drawn with energy
Enchanting a candle or incense and carrying it along the boundary line to establish the boundary
Asking spiritual helpers to assist you in any of the above
You can have multiple walls. If you are under serious spiritual attack, you should probably have multiple walls.
Suit of armor: personal protection
Inner chamber: ward on your bed/sleeping space to protect your sleep
Room: ward on you bedroom or private area where you work magic and divination; a place where you can get a break and rest
Home: ward on entire home; more rooms may be individually warded as desired
Homestead: ward on entire property; can still be done on your building/nearby property if you live in apartments
Avoid splitting focus when you build walls.
Focus on BUILDING A STRONG WALL.
You can place 'aggressive protections' down later, this is like waiting to add spikes and boiling oil until after you've built the wall.
Do not siphon off your wall's strength and power by also having the wall do cute tricksy things ('this wall cleanses what is within!' NO, why are you redirecting power to provide passive cleansing?! You need to prioritize your actions, stop trying to mop while there's a hole in the side of the ship.)
Plan a point of ingress/egress and retain complete control over it.
"This wall is an immovable object. This wall is a mountain that existed before the rings of Saturn. This wall has only one gate, and I hold the key."
A physical key works very well to control this magical gateway.
DO NOT BUILD IN LOOPHOLES TO PROVIDE GRACE TO HARMFUL SPIRITS.
"This wall protects me from all spirits, unless I misunderstood their intentions, unless they apologize to me, unless they agree to be nice to me, even if they really dislike me but they just agree to not actively harm me-" like why are you doing this to yourself. Do you not think you deserve a greater degree of protection? You are not the 'mom friend' to spirits who needs to give them chance after chance for their mental health. You are not the 'group glue' that is holding the spirit community together. It is not your job to sacrifice your sense of security and wellbeing so random spirits have a game night to attend. Please choose yourself and your own safety.
Once your wall is built, assign guardians to it.
Pray and petition that powerful protectors assign angels, elementals, or spirits to patrol the gate in your wall. Contract with spirits yourself (such as your familiars or helper spirits). Build watchful and protective energy constructs.
If you've wisely placed the gateway to your wall to align with a physical gateway (such as the front gate or front door), see if a nearby plant, tree, stone, &etc. can be contracted to watch the gate for you.
Energy construct vessels (an amulet where the construct lives) and spirit vessels can be placed near the physical gateway to greatly empower their work.
Assign guardians in this order: First the gateway, to oversee who approaches and tries to pass through - the guardians should reinforce your rules, and protect against anything that isn't allowed to pass. Secondly, other guardians may patrol around the wall.
Planets can assign elementals, making Mars an excellent planetary power to petition for protection
Ask your spirits to introduce you to guardians who can help you with this task
A second protection spell can function as a guardian by utilizing protective correspondences and assigning the second spell to guard the gateway of the first.
When searching for guardians or creating constructs, keep in mind that keen eyesight and discernment are of great use; therefore correspondences that also benefit Second Sight and clarity are well employed (give wormwood or star anise a spin).
Once guardians are assigned, build any fancy extras you want - these are your aggressive or illusory protections.
Work with your guardians and ask them what tools would best help them protect the wall. They may give answers that aren't exactly about fortifying the wall (like, 'the wall is fine but we could use a resting place nearby').
If you aren't working with guardians or otherwise ready to proceed, now at this point add the spikes, the boiling oil, the invisibility shields, and anything else you want to fortify your defenses.
Add these by creating additional protection spells that 'drape over' the wall. Once the boundary of the wall has been established you may find it to be much easier to lay down additional protections along the same line.
Finally, deal with conditions inside of the wall.
Once protection work is done, things like cleansing, adjusting the vibes, etc., are a separate and IMO unrelated process.
