Do we think Phainon was the first to disrespect Mydei?
I know the usual trope is a character receiving kindness for the first time. But Mydei has been well respected by his people for years, and had friends that, while they were his equals and peers in a way, we have evidence to say held some respect or distance due to ranks.
So they probably didn't test their luck and call him a jerk for his personality.
Which means Phainon was the first to look him in the eye and call him a bitch.
He already knows he can act like an asshole. He does it on purpose at times.
The thing is Phainon didn't even stutter as he metaphorically slapped him on the face.
Mydei? He was MAD. But also amazed and amused at the balls the guy had.

So I just watched Etho's Double Life Episode 5 for the first time & I...
Like. My understanding of this session was from watching Grian's Double Life & I think I watched Pearl's video for it & then everything else is what I've absorbed from fandom.
& two things that I hadn't been expecting based on that knowledge that I got out of Etho's video:
First: Etho trying to extinguish the Relation. Like. They come up on its burning remains & Joel is saying that it's okay, it was really more of a metaphor, they'll be alright, & Etho's just. Stumbling over repeated questions of what they'll be & where they'll be without their Relation as he hops around the remaining blocks, picking up decorations not on fire & putting out whatever blocks he can.
Joel lets it go, accepts that the Relation is gone the moment they get to it & see the damage, & reassures Etho while also plotting revenge. & Etho's in shock & still trying to save it, trying to save this ship Joel built for them, by himself, while Etho was off taking huge risks after making Joel promise not to take any, that Etho came home to & was stunned by its beauty. Etho does not want to let it go, to admit that it was gone. Which brings me to...
Second: Once Etho realizes that's it, the Relation is gone, he's so 110% on board with everything burning, & quite frankly, from his point of view, he is very much the more unhinged one here. Joel might be leading them & announcing that everything burns, but Etho is right behind him, taking flint & steel to anything that'll go up, repeating those words like a mantra.
Joel seems focused on taking out everyone else's bases, but Etho is lighting everything on fire. Any hint of wood on a base? On fire. Trees? On fire. Mobs? On fire. Other red name players? On fire. The grass? On fire. The bridge made of deepslate that's not actually going to burn at all? On fire x6.
Also on fire? Etho. He's so desperate to make the whole server burn, he keeps setting himself on fire in the process & taking surprisingly long to actually extinguish himself. He lighting the ground in front of him & then jumping over the flames & they catch him in the process & he does this like six time in a row while trying to light up a burn proof deepslate bridge. & he only actually pulls out the water bucket a couple of times in the process, just letting himself be on fire.
This man is so hellbent on destruction that he seems to forget his own safety, forget that that is also Joel's safety, & is So. God. Damn. Reckless.
I've read a lot of fic about the Relation burning down & based on every single one of them, I expected Joel to be devastated by its loss, to be inconsolable, to be reckless while Etho comforts & follows along & joins in, because Joel needs this, so maybe Etho does too.
But no, from Etho's own point of view, it is the exact opposite. Etho is devastated, Etho is in shocked, Etho needs to be comforted & reassured. Joel suggests everything burning in response, & yeah, he wants revenge too, but gods. It really feels like he suggests it to give Etho a direction for all those feelings, to give Etho an outlet.
Because while Joel might want revenge, Etho needs it.

The thing that kills me the most about Green Lanterns in DC is that by all means and technicalities they should be a bigger threat than Superman or Wonder Woman -- as long as they keep that ring in their possession, that is, and even then it's really damn hard for a GL to lose control of their ring.
Even if they somehow get the body part with the ring (as long as it's not a vital one like the head) chopped off, they SHOULD still be able to control it because the ring answers to the wearer's willpower.
And you get these things in the actual Green Lantern comics, where they are allowed to be cosmic horror levels of powerful and unstoppable. As soon as they're placed in a comic where any other character, but mostly Batman, is the main focus, the writers immediately put all kinds of power blockers on the Lanterns to the point that it's contradictory.
They are more than cosmic level threats, and they also face cosmic level threats on the daily. But if they (along with Flash, tbh) were allowed to be as powerful as they really are outside their main comics, the other writers wouldn't really have much of a story to tell where Batman somehow defeats everyone with the power of prep time and deus ex machina.
And this kills me because if you don't actually engage with the source material that is Green Lantern comics, you end up with a wild misrepresentation of how powerful they truly are, and how in control they must remain at all times underneath the witty comebacks, the sexy poses, the homoeroticism and the jokes.
#green lantern corps#they downplay their abilities while on earth because otherwise everyone would start getting twitchy about them#and their time on earth is kind of a vacation because they can act dumb and let Superman do the heavy lifting#John (who hasn’t needed a ring in 2 years) “oh no Batman stole my ring :(( guess I have to sit down and not help him while he gets beat up”#Hal in the fainting lady pose “argh! the colour yellow. A vulnerability I have. I’m growing weak. Someone save me.”

Dark AU
Stelly looking at Dragon and Crocodile- clearly a couple, and vocal about it- but thinking that their relationship is a political alliance, because that’s all he’s ever known marriage to be.
Sabo has the same issue to some degree, but he’s been so rejecting of his nobility that he’s quick to learn that marrying for political gain is widely seen as not normal in the world at large.
Stelly is still clinging. A little less every day, but still.
He will sometimes brave a question to Dragon or Crocodile when he can catch them alone. What were the terms of their marriage? Was it an arms deal? Was it to secure resources? Territory? Perhaps a treaty with old Whitebeard, since Crocodile was once a part of the Moby Dick’s crew (that one got him quite the laugh from the scarred man)?
From Dragon, he was told that he and the former warlord had chosen each other and were mated for life. From Crocodile, he was told that he and the Emperor married out of love, and couldn’t imagine life without each other…
It left Stelly even more confused.
People loved each other when they married? Not just eventually grew to love each other out of necessity, but loved each other before? That was… incomprehensible!
… Why did they look at him so sadly when he told them that?
