i think it was incomplete on purpose. like he was 'the shitty one' out of all the trolls, and even if he managed to score a date or get some magic hed still be 'the shitty one' so him joining jack and kickstarting murderstuck sort of felt inevitable in a way.

:O i never thought about it like that! i was sort of focusing on the main 'defenitions' instead of how they interact, but this was super eye opening!!!

why rogue of hope for susie? i always imagined her as a maid, since she brings hope into a hopeless world

susie's out here snatching hope from the jaws of fate, she is quite literally unstoppable in how hard she can believe in others. i think the most defining thing is where she gets her hope — when she was shown kindness by toriel, she got her first shard of hope, and in the time since, that stockpile of hope started growing more through the strength of others believing in her, as early as chapter 1.

lancer was always in admiration of her personality and abilities, never showed fear in the face of her posturing, was the first person she felt like she could just... be friends with. and even when this friendship is tested later, when she's completely heartbroken and almost kills him, that hope he put into her... it saves both of them.

ralsei, in his stark conformity to the path of fate, ends up hurting susie a lot in trying to railroad her onto a more "suitable" path, and doesn't always exactly believe in her ability to do right. but once he understands that susie just has a lot of trouble showing kindness because of the ways she's been hurt, he has a lot less trouble holding hope for her as well, and that gets reciprocated by her in her own ways (her stalling for ralsei to be able to use pacify on king, for instance).

with kris, it's especially interesting. kris has spent most of their adolescence completely hopeless, surrounded by people they're alienated from by default. when susie enters their life, a silent kinship forms between them, something neither of them can really stand to recognize. kris passes her a pencil to chew on, susie thinks about the scent of their hair, they both envy each other over completely different things they don't understand about the other. why does kris get it so easy? do they even understand how cruel this world is? how is susie so effortlessly defiant? does she even understand how cruel this world is? they both wish they could say something, but the walls are too thick.

but then susie puts her life in their hands, and suddenly a wall came down. someone really believes in kris, and not just because they have to. and then later, kris defies themself by jumping to protect her, and the hope starts flowing. it doesn't stop. with the trust they put into each other, it starts a feedback loop. kris believes in susie, and in turn, susie shows kris that nothing can keep them down, that they will make the future, and they start to believe in themself too, despite everything. they start to believe that maybe they can be themself, that maybe there is a way for them to break loose from the chains of fate without having to hurt anyone, that maybe the future is bright.

and when susie reads the prophecy, which was never made to include someone like her, she derives an intense power from the meaning she draws from it. she takes the role of the second hero and makes it hers, and she's filled with the power of her own hope, written in truth, written somewhere no one can erase!! her ability to pull hope from even the most absolutely grim, immutable places, and use that hope to break those very foundations and turn her own meaning into truth — that is what makes her a rogue.
