Eras Legacy Challenge

Inspiration

Story and rule based legacy challenges like Not So Berry, Disney Princess, crybaby whims, etc. are some of my favorite ways to play and watch the Sims. When I saw crybaby whims, which is inspired by Melanie Martinez songs, I had this idea for a Taylor Swift legacy where every generation is an album and each song has a corresponding objective to complete.

Rules

Your goal each generation is to complete your aspiration, max the selected skills, and complete all listed objectives.

I recommend playing on Normal lifespan. If you have MCCC, I specifically recommend going in and setting the adult length to 50 days and elder to 42 days as the game’s natural lengths make these life states unrealistically short. That’s not particularly relevant to this challenge specifically other than that the in game adult and elder lengths break my immersion in legacy style gameplay.

This is a story based challenge, so cheats are fine if they are within the confines of the story (though if you cheat up skills and aspirations, what’s really the point?)

You must complete the goals in each generation, but you’re free to complete the goals of multiple generations simultaneously.

Any traits not specified by the rules are up to you, and traits specified by the rules can be replaced by modded traits that have similar vibes. If you have child or teen specific traits, feel free to use those and add the generation specific traits as a young adult

If the challenge specifies traits for love interests or other non-legacy sims, feel free to modify traits of in game sims or create your own sims accordingly or wait until you find a sim with the correct traits in the world.

You’re free to develop any skills, create any drama, do any careers or aspirations not included in the rules as long as you also complete the goals of the generation.

For storylines where non-legacy sims’ actions are important, use mods or cheats to control them, switch households temporarily, or pretend in your brain.

Use whatever mods bring you joy. A few are suggested in the rules, but there are so many great ones out there that will enhance your gameplay. Or, if you don’t want to use mods, don’t, and for objectives that rely on mods, skip them, or modify them however works best for you

If a plot line may be triggering for you, it’s totally fine to skip that objective or objectives.

Gen 1: Debut

TW: One of the objectives of this generation relates to eating disorders

Overview

Unlike most legacy challenges, you start this first generation as a child. Your family can take any form you’d like.

Colors: Blue, Green, Teal

Traits: Loner and Romantic (or similar modded traits)

Aspiration: Soulmate

Skills: Guitar, Charisma, Romance (lumpinou’s Road to Romance mod)

Story

You’ve never quite fit in, and maybe that’s why you seek love so desperately. Your child, teen, and young adult years are a series of unsuccessful romantic entanglements (at least 3). Some explode, some fizzle, and some never manage to burn, but all are guiding you in the end to the one (oops, wrong album). Your best friend has been by your side all along, through your lonely childhood, through your turbulent teen years, figuring young adulthood out alongside you as you become roommates. They shine so brightly that you’ve never considered them an option (or maybe you have, but the timing’s never been right, or something else has been in the way), but you know them well enough to know they struggle a lot behind closed doors. Eventually, something changes, and your feelings for each other, growing under the surface for all these years, bloom. You fall in love, get married, live happily ever after. (Or have a lovely platonic life partnership until you die).

Objectives

I’m Only Me When I’m With You - Have a best friend you meet as a child, move in together as soon as you become young adults (or go to university together)

A Place in this World, The Outside - Your only friend other than family members and romantic interests during your child and teen years is your best friend

Tied Together with a Smile - Your best friend has an eating disorder, start playing this storyline from when you move in together. How it is handled and resolved is up to you. (recommend Kuttoe’s Lifetime Quirks mod or adeepindigo’s sim image mod)

Tim McGraw - Take a vacation to any world (ideally during summer if you have seasons), meet someone there, have a brief romance, and never talk to them after the vacation ends. (If you have the First Love mod by littlemssam, this can also be as a child)

Invisible, Teardrops On My Guitar - Maintain low level romance (is it unrequited love or are they leading you on) with someone with a partner. You can allow this to fade with time if you marry someone else, develop into a real relationship if the sim is your best friend, or blow up into one of the other impermanent relationships

Cold As You - Have a relationship with (achieve boyfriend or girlfriend status) someone with the mean or evil trait

Stay Beautiful - Have a relationship with (achieve boyfriend or girlfriend status) someone with the outgoing or charming (KiaraSims mod) trait

Our Song - As a teen, keep a relationship secret from your parents, sneak out past curfew to go on dates with them

A Perfectly Good Heart - Be dumped by first partner

Should’ve Said No - Be cheated on and find out about it from someone else, or by catching them in the act

Picture To Burn - Achieve enemy status with one ex

Mary’s Song (Oh My My My) - Marry your childhood best friend and stay together for the rest of your lives (or don’t marry them and live in a platonic life partnership together)

Beautiful Eyes Bonus

Beautiful Eyes - There is something distinct or unique about your best friend/eventual partner’s eyes (odd color, heterochromia, etc.)

I Heart ? - Get a tattoo after one of your breakups

I’d Lie - Best friend’s favorite color is green, they must reach research and debate level 6 and guitar level 6

*note: any of the relationship rules can overlap (e.g. having a partner who’s both mean and outgoing) as long as you have three different failed romances/romantic entanglements (including romances using littlemisssam’s First Love mod and flirtations that never reach the level of girlfriend/boyfriend)

Gen 2: Fearless (Taylor’s Version)

“This ain't Hollywood, this is a small town / I was a dreamer before you went and let me down”

Overview

Colors: Gold, Beige, Tan

Traits: Brave (by KiaraSims), Ambitious

Aspiration: Choose any other than romance or family

Skills: Choose any one 10-level skill (or two 5-level skills)

Story

You have big dreams, clear goals, neat plans, but for some reason, you keep letting romance get in the way. You love and idolize your parents, especially your mother (or parent of choice if you have a number of mothers that does not equal one), and is it really so bad to want the fairytale they had? Probably, because you keep dropping everything you’re working for when you think you’ve found the one (still wrong album, I promise this isn’t an intentional running joke; it just keeps coming up), first for your high school love, which sweet as it is, comes to its natural end when high school is over, and then for a spouse whose love is intoxicating and chaotic and as thrilling as it is painful. Your separation and eventual divorce are as messy as the relationship, and in the aftermath, you have to learn what it is you want, and how to find a love that doesn’t hurt you, someone who believes you shine as brightly as they do (and as a celebrity, they shine pretty brightly unless you Turn Off Fame Shine). With all this kissing in the rain and leaving in the fog and reuniting in the thunderstorm, it’s time you become the sun.

Objectives

The Best Day - You and your mom (or parent of choice if you don’t have a mother) are best friends. You go out together just the two of you once a week starting when you become a toddler and continuing until your mother (or parent) dies

You Belong With Me - As a teen, you’re a band geek. I recommend using a mod like KiaraSims’ that adds band as an after school activity, but you can also just have band geek vibes. Reach level 3 of an instrument by the time you age up to young adult

Fearless, Hey Stephen - Have all your first kisses in the rain

Fifteen - You have big dreams (choose a skill, a career, and an aspiration), but you also have a romance, and as a teen, love takes precedent. Do not make any move toward your dreams (by working on the skill, by working hard in school or applying to university, or by completing aspiration milestones) from the time you get into a relationship until you break up with your high school love as you age from teen to young adult

Tell Me Why - Marry someone with the hot headed or mean trait

Love Story - Your parents do not originally like your to-be spouse (cheat this so the relationship is at -50 upon meeting), and before you can get married, your partner must win your parents’ approval (at least +25 friendship with all living parents) and successfully ask permission to propose (I recommend MissyHissy’s Ask For Blessing To Marry Overhaul for this)

White Horse - Give up your dream (a career, skill of choice, and aspiration) for your spouse and your children (by quitting the career, not working on the skill at all, and by switching to either the soulmate aspiration or any family aspiration while you are married)

Forever and Always - Your spouse leaves you shortly after you become an adult (not divorcing or breaking up. If you have lumpinou’s RPO mod, have them request a separation. If not, just have them move out)

Come In With The Rain, You’re Not Sorry, The Other Side of the Door - After the separation, your spouse wants to work on your marriage, and you agree (recommend lumpinou’s RPO and Road to Romance mod for this), but the distance has made you realize the way your spouse’s behavior is unacceptable, and after your spouse cheats on you, you ultimately decide to get a divorce

Breathe - Rebuild your life after getting divorced from the person you thought was your soulmate. You can pick up the skill, career, and aspiration that were your dream when you were a young adult, or you can pick a new dream (change any or all of the skill, career, aspiration). Reach level 6 of the career, max the skill, and complete the aspiration

Change - After all your children are teens or older, you take up activism. Switch into or join the politics career and level up to at least the charity organizer branch. Work this job until you choose to retire

The Way I Loved You - After all the turbulence of your marriage and divorce, all you want is stability. The next person you have romance with needs to have the Neat trait or the Good trait

Today Was A Fairytale - Get married as an elder to the person you’ll spend the rest of your life with

Jump Then Fall - Your final love, the person you’ll marry as an elder and be with for the rest of your life, must have freckles

Untouchable, Superstar - Your final love, the person you’ll marry as an elder and be with for the rest of your life, must be a celebrity

From the Vault Bonus

We Were Happy - The person you date as a teen lives on a farm

Bye Bye Baby - When your spouse leaves you or asks for a separation, it is cloudy out, but not raining

That’s When - Talk to your spouse in person for the first time after you separate while it’s storming (rainstorm or blizzard)

You All Over Me - Change one positive trait to a negative one (e.g. gloomy, hot headed, mean, loner, etc.) after your divorce

Mr. Perfectly Fine - After your divorce, your spouse gets into a new relationship before you do

Don’t You - You bump into your ex-spouse while you’re out, and at the end of the encounter, your friendship is between -10 and 10 (regardless of what it was before)

Gen 3: Speak Now

Overview

The objectives of this generation have much less of a fixed chronology than the previous two. If you want convince a guy to leave his fiancé at the alter, just to leave him again for your passionate one night stand, that’s a choice you can make. If you want to find your forever person early and only break up your ex’s wedding because you don’t trust the vibes, that’s also fine. You don’t even have to have a forever person this generation if you don’t want to. Also, remember one person can fulfill multiple requirements. The passionate one night stand can be the unhealthy relationship with an adult if that’s how you set it up, and that goes for any requirements. If you can find a way to overlap them, then they’re allowed to be overlapped.

Colors: Red, Purple

Traits: Jealous, Restless (by Kuttoe) or Impulsive (by Vicky Sims)

Aspiration: Bestselling Author

Skills: Writing

Story

Your parents’ toxic relationship has soured you toward love, and while some might call you flighty, you’d say cautious. After all, it’s always safest to be the first to leave. Sometimes, though, leaving leaves you with regrets. And sometimes, those regrets lead you to interrupt your ex’s wedding to your childhood bully. Ultimately, no matter what you do to protect yourself, you cannot avoid pain just like you cannot avoid love, and all the little heartbreaks you endure and cause are testament to both. When you lose the greatest love of your life, you give up on romance all together. At least all the melodrama is good inspiration, and you write romance novels, one for each love affair, winning a starlight accolade for one of them.

Objectives

Mean - As a child and teen, you have a bully

Mine - You are very cautious in love. You can only become officially boyfriend or girlfriend with someone after you’ve achieved soulmate status, and if you notice a want to ask someone to be a boyfriend or girlfriend before then (and try to pay attention to the wants), you must immediately stop talking to that person and cheat the relationship to the negative of what it is (so if the relationship was 50 friendship and 30 romance, you would cheat it to be -50 friendship and -30 romance). If anyone asks you to be boyfriend/girlfriend before you’re soulmates, you must say no. You must have and leave at least one romantic interest in such a way. If neither situation occurs, find another justification for leaving

Enchanted - Using WonderfulWhims and lumpinou’s First Impressions mod, you meet a person that you consider attractive with positive first impressions on both sides. You talk briefly, and then you go your separate ways. If you bump into each other again, this person is exempt from the “Mine” rule. This can happen at any point in the story and be a healthy or unhealthy relationship (after all, some relationships are better to leave)

Dear John - When you are newly a young adult (within a week of aging up), have an unhealthy relationship with an adult sim (how it is unhealthy is up to you)

Sparks Fly - Have a passionate one night stand with someone with the noncommittal trait resulting in a child

Back to December - You must make amends with one of the people you left and return the relationship to at least good friends status

Better Than Revenge - Your child/teen bully is dating an ex. Get revenge for it, by playing pranks, by being mean or fighting, by performing voodoo, by talking down about them to people, or any other means of making their life miserable that you can think of

Speak Now - As your ex is preparing to marry your child/teen bully, you realize you still love that ex and want to be with them (alternatively, you just don’t think the wedding is a good match and are trying to help). Interrupt the wedding by revealing your feelings before any vows are exchanged (this does not necessarily have to be successful)

Innocent - Make up with your child/teen bully and achieve at least friend status with them

Ours - Your most serious relationship is with someone somehow deemed unacceptable by society (perhaps a criminal, perhaps someone poor, perhaps someone punk or otherwise counterculture, perhaps someone visibly queer)

Superman - You do not have a traditional career. You stay home and look after your children and write books while your partner, if you have one, works a standard job

The Story of Us - You write romance novels, one for each failed relationship

Long Live - You must win a starlight accolade for one of your books

Never Grow Up - You are overprotective of your children. They have the earliest set curfew, but you don’ t actually discipline them when they break rules, only praise them when they’re good

Haunted, Last Kiss, If This Was a Movie - If you’re looking for a little classic sims chaos, either your spouse, or, if you never get married, your most serious adult relationship, becomes a vampire or werewolf during adulthood and leaves you after some aspect of their supernatural life hurts or scares you. If you’re looking for more realistic gameplay or you don’t have those packs, that sim dies unexpectedly during adulthood. Either way, you never move on and don’t pursue romance again.

Gen 4: Red (Taylor’s Version)

“There is something to be said for being young and needing someone so badly, you jump in head first without looking. And there’s something to be learned from waiting all day for a train that’s never coming. And there’s something to be proud of about moving on and realizing that real love shines golden like starlight.”

TW: One of the objectives of this generation relates to mental illness, specifically depression and addiction

Overview

Colors: Red

Traits: Romantic, Dance Machine, modded zodiac trait

Aspiration: Party Animal

Skills: Dancing, Any fame granting skill

Story

After a relatively sheltered childhood with a parent spurning love, you’re ready to take on the big, scary, exciting world and feel whatever’s out there to feel. Naive and eager, it’s no wonder you get pulled into a whirlwind romance of fame and adventure and dancing in the kitchen then fighting in the hall then making up in the bedroom. Even when it ends, you can’t bring yourself to regret it because now you know what real, solid love is meant to look like, and you find it, stepping out of the spotlight for a glow that doesn’t burn or blind.

Objectives

Girl at Home - Never flirt with anyone before confirming that they are single

Starlight - Sneak into a yacht club party (visit Club Calico in Brindleton Bay at night past curfew or build an exclusive yacht club party venue) as a teen

The Lucky One - Move to Del Sol Valley when you become a young adult and reach at least level 3 fame

22 - During young adulthood, go out dancing with a group of friends once a week

Red - For most of your young adulthood, you have a red lover. As Taylor Swift describes in the liner notes for Red, red relationships are “The ones that went from zero to a hundred miles per hour and then hit a wall and exploded. And it was awful. And ridiculous. And desperate. And thrilling. And when the dust settled, it was something I’d never take back.”

State of Grace - Using any zodiac mod or traits, you and your red lover are both fire signs (Aries, Leo, or Sagittarius)

Holy Ground - Meet your red lover in San Myshuno at the Stargazer lounge or another penthouse community lot (and spend the night dancing together if you want, maybe with some of Mercuryfoam’s mods)

We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together, The Last Time - Break up and get back together with your red lover at least once

I Knew You Were Trouble - Take a vacation with your red lover at least once every two weeks

Treacherous - Go on a mountain climbing excursion with your red lover and woohoo in the cave or a tent while on the journey (you do not have to reach the summit, but you can)

All to Well - Go on a camping trip with your red lover in the fall

The Moment I Knew - Your red lover forgets your birthday from young adult to adult, age up naturally without a cake or celebration

Sad Beautiful Tragic - You wait all night for your red lover to return home after your forgotten birthday, and when they never do, you end it

I Almost Do - Leave your red lover for good after you become an adult

Everything Has Changed - Meet a lifelong (gold) lover through your child (perhaps their friend’s parent or a teacher). You can have a child by any means you want: with your red lover, through another relationship, with a donor or surrogate, through adoption, etc.

Begin Again - Have the first date with your gold lover at a cafe

Come Back…Be Here - After your first date with your gold lover, do not see them for a week (send them on vacation or just pretend that travel is what’s keeping them away)

Stay Stay Stay - Do something so that your golden lover has a negative sentiment towards you and then resolve it

From the Vault Bonus

Better Man - your red lover has the jealous trait

Nothing New - as an adult or elder, assist a younger sim (perhaps your child) in gaining fame (by introducing them to other famous sims, mentoring them in skills, taking photos of them to post on social media, etc.) until they become more famous than you (either due to their rapidly rising fame or your dwindling spotlight)

Babe - your red lover has an affair with their coworker

Message In A Bottle - during the period away from your gold lover, write them a love email every night (requires writing level 4, if you don’t have high enough writing skill, send them flirty text or DM instead)

I Bet You Think About Me - your red lover lives in one of the lots in the Pinnacles in Del Sol Valley. If you have it, they have KiaraSims’ Silver Spoon trait.

Forever Winter - you have someone important in your life (a friend, family member, lover, etc.) with the gloomy trait. (If you have Zero’s mental health mod, they have depression, and if you have Basemental, they may also struggle with addiction)

Run - run away with your gold lover by retiring somewhere rural and quitting the spotlight as an elder

The Very First Night - with your red lover, have a night out in Del Sol Valley and dance in the kitchen

All To Well (10 minute version) - your red lover is significantly older than you
