As much as there is a sense of environmental grief within society and our circles—watching land be destroyed, knowledge of extinct species, etc—do you ever think there is a sense of spiritual grief for us pagans?

Do you ever wonder what the world would be like if paganism wasn't forced out of society? If our temples and shrines were still visited and offerings were still left, if our symbols were everywhere and not worn on a necklace hidden beneath our shirts, if in every woodland grove there was a statue of Cernuunos, on every mountain a sculpture of Skadi, if hearthcraft and spellwork and old herbalism/magic/knowledge was handed down through the generations.....

I know that paganism is greatly growing in numbers, but I wonder what the strength of our community would look like if our oral traditions and spiritual histories were never broken. The stories we'd be raised on could topple the highest of kings.

Witchcraft is actually hella customizable. You can invent shit. I don't know how this: "By the book, uber traditional, heavily controlled" thing gained so much traction, but...

You can make your own holidays

You can make your own Gods

You can design your own divination methods

You can make sigils -however the fuck you want

You can create your own theory on energy systems based on your personal experience

Write your own ethics and codes of conduct

Describe crystals or herbs by their ENERGY instead of a keyword list you got off Pinterest

Cleanse in a completely different way than the books tell you to

Literally the possibilities are unfathomably endless. And I've successfully done all of these. Go forth and get weird with it.

if you’re a pagan and you feel uncomfortable celebrating beltane because of its meanings and associations with fertility and sexuality, then you don’t have to celebrate it. if you feel like you don’t want to miss out on a festival, celebrate it as the acknowledgement of the turn of the wheel, the welcoming of the middle of spring. celebrate your relationships with your deities. your mental health should always come before your religion and/or your witchcraft, so you do you. never put yourself in a potentially triggering position just for the sake of being a ‘real’ pagan/witch. if you worship deities and feel like you’re letting them down, know that they’ll be happier if you’re looking after yourself.

Things like this just make me want to open my dream shop/cafe so much more. I dream of owning a brick and mortar location that is accessible and inclusive to every witch regardless of things such as race, gender, religion, mobility/disability etc.

Let's talk about something in the witch community.

I'm autistic. What does this have to do with witches, witchblr, and more? Well, accessibility in the witch community is non-existent. The few witch shops I have been to were so overpowered by incense, candles, banishing sprays, etc that I actually had full blown meltdown in one of them, and the other I couldn't get inside due to the headache that started to form. (Nevermind the fact that most witch shops are dreadfully cramped making it impossible for wheelchair users to get into - as I am not a wheelchair user I will not talk on this topic, but it is a common trend I have noticed.)

Other than just shops, the witchblr community is also pretty inaccessible for autistics (and adhd-ers). Many posts are large chunks of text, have many colors, and will contain multiple moving gifs of different saturations. I know the saturation of s gif isn't something most people focus on, but for light sensitive autistics we don't get a choice.

Many spells are also difficult to follow when autistic. The steps often contain things such as "the amount you feel is right" and "the order these are added does not matter." For an autistic trying to follow a spell, this can be extremely difficult. What do you mean when it feels right? How much exactly is that?

Obviously things don't have to change to accommodate a small number of witches/warlocks who are autistic, but it might be better if as a community we were more cognizant of our failings to our neurologically and physically disabled fellow magic users.
