Annabeth giving Percy her necklace because she knows how much Athena giving her the invisibility cap meant to her. For a girl who has only experienced and viewed love as transactional, she is giving Percy a sign that she not only cares for him, but is with him as he goes to Olympus.

that line hit me HARD.

i’ve said something very similar to myself so many times. and it hurts so bad, especially when i’m just trying to help. i’ll try and talk to my friends, bond more with them, but all they say is that i’m weird and i’m annoying.

now, i’m not saying that’s ALL they think about me. i know they love me and usually enjoy talking to me, but what i really want is someone i can be myself with. i don’t want to have to mask around them, because honestly that is way too much work, and i already do it every school day.

but when my friends, my best friends, the people i trust and love the most just brush off my attempts at conversation ? that hurts. it’s like they’re trying to get rid of me sometimes, and it sucks. because i try so, so hard. and trying isn’t always enough.

It’s so refreshing seeing such a healthy mother-son relationship in PJO. Just a single mother who raised her son right and a son who has grown up loved and cherished and taken care of. Mother-son relationship are commonly strained or nonexistent or just overlooked, but it being the driving force of Percy’s motivations for his quest is truly a beautiful thing to see.

Maybe it’s cause I’m a young woman, but I absolutely adore seeing a son think so highly of his mother, respect her beyond belief, and love her with such ferocity. It’s believable and realistic yet uncommon in media.

All I could think about when it showed the pit of Tartarus was that that young boy who tapped his mom on the shoulder to make her smile and makes jokes to hide his unease and loves blue food and just wants to be normal and that young girl who couldn’t pick which candy from the gas station and believes love is transactional and was a gift but then a problem and has never seen a movie are both going to fall into that massive hell.

And they are going to survive it. Together.

Percy was so infatuated this episode man. I’m not saying it’s inherently romantic, cause they are twelve and their friendship comes first and is actually so much more important than their romantic relationship. But he just seemed to really like talking to and being around Annabeth, which I loved to see because sure you could look at it as a crush but I saw it as a boy who has never had a female friend before and has realized just how cool she is. He just seems to like her and they seem like such friends now that they’re so fun to watch (not that they weren’t before, but now it’s not as angsty and harsh).

My favorite relationships, the best ones, are the ones rooted in friendship and built on a strong, trusting foundation. Sometimes it’s more important to have that friendship than a relationship, especially in situations as intense and dangerous as the ones they face.
