inspired by boop day, reblog this post if its ok for people to send you random asks and interact on your posts with no judgement. i want to talk to people.
i feel like no one really wants to hear that sleep/exercise/nutrition/hydration are major factors in treating mental health issues bc we’ve all talked to that person who thinks your depression would be cured by one good session of goat yoga or whatever but unfortunately they do help and i’m chronically annoyed about it
teenage me and current me are both depressed directionless girls, the only difference is that current me started appreciating the beauty of the world and realized how good it is to be alive despite it all
“I come from a long line of strong women. My grandmothers were very powerful… I grew up as an equal, and always believed in the power of women.” - Laila Shawa, Palestinian Artist. Born in Gaza 1940. from Dr Jennifer Cassidy, 08/Mar/2024:
i am a big believer in letting music (and other media) come to you when you're ready for it. you may only know vaguely of an acclaimed beloved artist and suspect that you'd be into them but just... not ever get around to it. and then in 15 years one of their songs just hits you the right way and what a gift to suddenly have all of their works to explore! there is no hurry; what is good is always good.
You're just a mammal. Let yourself act like it. Your brain needs enrichment. Your body needs rest. You feel hunger and grow hair. You need to pack bond with other sentient things so you don't become unsocialized and neurotic. You are biologically inclined to seek dopamine and become sick when chronically stressed. "Hedonism" is made up to place moral value on taking pleasure in sensory experiences. I am telling you that if you don't let yourself be a fucking mammal, as you were made, you will suffer and go insane. No grindset no diets no trying to be above your drive for connection. Pursue what makes you feel good and practice radial rejection of the constructs meant to turn you into a machine. You're a mammal.
Studying poultry farming and although it's not easy, definitely it is interesting. There are many aspects of this field that surely can be improved though (especially the animal welfare part).
These days I'm also very busy petsitting lots of dogs. Take a look at my favorite client above! Too cute!!!!
Why are agriculture classes the first time I've learned extremely basic info about nutrition and how digestion works. Why isn't this stuff in health textbooks or any easily accessible resource about healthy eating.
Currently reading The Long Covid Self-Help Guide by the Post-Covid Assessment Clinic, Oxford, and while I still obvs can't say for sure that my general fatigue, sleep problems, post-exertional malaise, lightheadedness and dizziness, etc etc is related to getting COVID two whole years ago, I can say the chapter about managing fatigue has already rocked my world, especially in regards to low-level activity vs. real rest:
It's a good idea to think about the difference between rest and low-level activity. Many of us think we are resting when in fact we are engaging in low-level activity. Reading a book or magazine, watching TV, scrolling through our phone: these are low-level activities, and while they do not require a huge amount of energy (and are good to do in your day), they are still using up a little. Proper, restorative/healing rest helps to put some energy in your battery -- to charge it up. Rests are 'pauses' in activity. These might be in the form of relaxation exercises, breathing exercises, meditation techniques, mindfulness, restorative yoga practice or sensory techniques such as sound apps, a heated blanket, or aromatherapy. Find a way of truly resting that works for you.
Many people express feelings of guilt about stopping and resting or view it as a negative thing. This can act as a barrier to resting. If this sounds familiar, try to reframe your attitude to rest in a positive light. By resting you are not doing nothing, you are recharging your battery. You will be doing yourself (and those around you) a huge favor.
The book also notes that sleep and rest meet different needs and that getting good rest could lead to healthier sleep. Again: mind blown. I'm truly stoked I picked this book up for the first chapter alone.
