Can You Keep A Secret?

         It all a started with a clan. Tired of the constant fighting of fellow waring clans. A group of about 40 or so, generally pacifist people, looked to settle in place that would keep them protected and in peace. In their travels, they came across an island they described as “to have the shape of a crescent moon”. The group of people loved the secluded island but it was already inhabited with many water spirits. After docking their ships on the shore, the people immediately noticed what they thought were glowing dragonflies floating around a large calm stream that traveled through the middle of the island. It wasn’t until they got closer that they saw that not only were the dragonflies not dragonflies but more of a sprite that resembled “a flying seahorse". But also, that they were NOT the only spirits that dwelled there. Water Spirits that appeared as full sized horses also emerged to them. These spirits in particular had the ability to speak telepathically to the visitors. The spirits were also weary of fighting and proposed a deal with the travelers. If they would offer both the island spirits protection and respect their land the spirits in turn would aid them in fighting. The spirits also said they would gift them the ability to have a water-form themselves. The group happily agreed and immediately began to settle on the island. They also, in thanks to the spirits that gave them safety, took on the name Akitsu which means ”dragonfly”. It eventually became a genetic trait that was passed down generations to generations and now, 200 years later. I still have the wonderful gift the spirits gave us.

**Akitsu is the archaic Japanese word for dragonfly.
