Allergy Attacks
If you’re like me you have bad allergies; I’m talking sneezing 24/7, runny nose, red itchy eyes, the works. Have you noticed that your allergies have been getting A LOT worse recently? Well I have, so I made a quick Google search to see what’s going on. According to a Time.com article titled, Why Allergy Seasons Are Getting Worse, we have global warming to thank. When the planet warms, it produces higher carbon dioxide levels and causes plants to produce way more pollen for a longer period of time. Now there is one other theory that has to do with hygiene. An aaaai.org article titled, Increasing Rates of Allergies and Asthma says that the increased severity of allergies is coming from being too clean, likely a results from COVID precautions for so long as well as new antibiotic resistance.

Internet and Aging
When I was 10 years old I was playing with Barbies and having tea parties with my stuffed animals, but 10 year olds now are fixated on online trends meant for people of a much different age bracket and how many followers they have on social media. I hate to sound like my grandma did when I wore ripped jeans to her house for the first time, “back in my day we’d never be allowed to wear somethin’ like that *eye roll*” but it really is concerning how much different children are growing up nowadays. I’m fully aware that the advancement of technology is going to cause a lot of change, but shouldn’t children still have a childhood where they get to act like actual kids?

Lack of Life Skills
I graduate high school this year and I have no idea how to do my taxes. I can solve algebraic equations and tell you how to find the volume of a cylinder, but I don’t know what a 401k is. The American education system teaches us so many things that are kind of useless in the real world. While it is necessary to know how to do math and understand the history of our country, it’s also important to be educated on how to properly prepare for our future. I’m 18 years old and the only thing I know how to do is go to school, and that’s genuinely terrifying.

Presidential Prerequisites
If you were going to take a plane to go see your family for the holidays, would you want the pilot to be required to have certain qualifications? Fortunately they are. According to atpflightschool.com, pilots must go to flight school, complete a training program, receive certifications, and pass medical examinations every 6 months. Now what would you think about the person in charge of metaphorically piloting your country? Should they have certain qualifications beyond being a natural born citizen, a resident of the United States for at least 14 years, and being 35 years of age? Personally, I think the guidelines for becoming present are far too lenient and it just isn’t talked about enough.

Cowlick Controversy
You know that section of hair that stands straight up or maybe lays at a weird angle that contradicts your regular hair pattern? A lucky few have no idea what I’m talking about and I envy them for that. According to hims.com, unfortunately 84% of the world has a cowlick of some sort and it’s a truly terrible experience. I polled my friends recently on things to talk about on this blog and they agreed that cowlicks are something not talked about enough, so let’s shed some light on the cowlick controversy. There is no cure for cowlicks, however, there are many means to disguise and tame them.

Blinding Brightness
As we continue to progress with automobiles and technology, it seems that there is a rapidly progressing problem, excessively bright LED headlights. I was driving home from choir practice last night, and granted I was already really tired and a little annoyed, but nevertheless, a giant truck was headed my way in the opposite lane and I had to all but pull my car over because their lights were so painfully bright I couldn’t even see the road. Light pollution is already a huge problem in our society and according to the Natural History Museum’s article Increasing Light Pollution is Drowning out the Stars, this pollution will increase by a factor of four over an 18 year period. This article goes on to state that the blue tint to LED headlights are making it more difficult for satellites to accurately calculate how much light pollution there really is. All in all, the blindingly bright LED headlights need to go, they’re annoying and serve no real purpose because the old halogen headlights are just as effective without frying the corneas of other drivers.

Doomscrolling
Have you ever thought about the ever evolving conflict in the Middle East? Or maybe wondered if we’re going to go to war with China in the next few months? Perhaps you’ve pondered suspected government corruption? Eventually, you end up grabbing your phone and looking up all the information to educate yourself, to stay informed, then get sucked in. But what’s the real cost of consuming all of this negative media? Though technology is relatively new and we don’t know the long term consequences of our doomscrolling yet, many websites have pointed out that mental health is one of the most affected things in the short term.
