This is amazing omg. Thanks for sending it to me! Alicent fans, give this a read!
Book!Alicent telling Show!Alicent that she should’ve just stabbed herself and screamed for the guards to arrest Rhaenyra for an assassination attempt in a holy space and then walked out bleeding and injured for all the people to see

Something about how Yellowjackets reflects our own society when it comes to valuing human life based on usefulness and contribution. Specifically when it comes to Jackie, Javi and Ben. Jackie is ostracised mainly because she hasn’t been a productive, helpful member of the group. Was she depressed and traumatised? Yes but when your society is made up of traumatised individuals the empathy will only stretch so far, Javi is just a kid, they saw him as a dependent, he can’t reasonably be expected to do as much as the older teens. He does have survival skills but when it came down to him and Natalie, one of the most useful members of the group because of her hunting skills. Javi was the “chosen” sacrifice. Then there’s Ben. He became disabled and at first empathy and compassion won over usefulness. His life had value and they didn’t leave him behind. As time went on they needed his guidance less and he couldn’t physically contribute. From the moment he became disabled he lost the chance to solidify himself as a valuable member of the group and lost his grip on authority. If they’ll turn on their captain and friend, for being “useless” how long before they’ll turn you? Maybe the issue with these characters, who’s value and position in the group ultimately came down to their abilities and usefulness isn’t solely because they’re in a survival situation but because they were raised in a society where they’re taught that a human beings value comes down to how useful and productive they are.
#ofc the show is more complex than just this but I think it is worth looking at who has become the outsider and the weakest link and why#something something about how disabled and mentally ill people are scapegoats in society (like Ben Shauna and Lottie all are in s3)#Yellowjackets#jackie taylor#ben scott#javi martinez

Feels like it took away Mari’s agency by not having the Mari vs Shauna plot in the finale. It was MARI that volunteered to kill Shauna. Mari had her own plan and motivations which were not sacrificing herself so a white girl could escape. The hunt was supposed to be the tragic end of their rivalry because the both were willing to hunt each other to achieve the respective goals.
#the episode should have been a two parter that focused on Shauna’s leadership and what caused the 4 girls to snap and trigger hunt to kill S#then have Nat as the underdog making it out and making it clear that her plan was seperate and not preplanned by everyone#Yellowjackets#mari ibarra#shauna shipman#I think it was just Hannah that knew Nat was escaping but it’s possible Misty and Van and maybe Travis knew something?#another tragic part is if the two groups that wanted to leave trusted each other and were on the same page Mari would not have died and they#could’ve just restrained Shauna or focused on getting Mari to safety

convinced the yellowjackets won so much because the opposition goalies would see Shauna Tai and Lottie coming up top for corner kick and just straight up shit themselves
#these girls stood there with no weapons and said ‘’we’re staying’’#and the large group with weapons were like ‘’oh fuck I’m not telling them no’’ ‘’well I guess we can’t leave’’#yellowjackets

i immediately disregard any analysis of Alicent from a strictly modern view point. Alicent can’t be a conservative or a “woman for Trump” or a pick me because she does not exist in a world where women have the same rights and freedoms of men, she is a woman in a quasi medieval society operating within this societies constructs. “Alicent seeks male validation” oh you mean from her father who owns her? and her husband who owns her? and her son who she is forced to have and then forced to rely on because as a woman she cannot own land or wealth in her own right? no shit she does, as does Rhaenyra and Rhaenys because despite having the illusion of freedom, something Alicent doesn’t even have, both Rhaenyra and Rhaenys are beholden to the men in their lives, Rhaenyra to her father and Rhaenys to her husband.
even those who are sympathetic to Alicent still cling to this idea that if Alicent just sided with Rhaenyra then her life would be so much better but respectfully that is a crock of shit, Rhaenyra wouldn’t do anything for Alicent or help improve the standing of any other women because just like Alicent she is out for her own livelihood and the livelihoods of her children, that is the priority for both these women so why is Alicent always expected to put Rhaenyra over her family? Alicent never had the privilege of a women support other women mindset because she needs to look out for her self and because so many people refuse to look at Alicent outside of their modern lenses they think she deserves to be humiliated and punished simply for doing what women had to do for centuries. to me it proves that they never bothered to engage with her character critically or with the actual politics of the world.
#alicent hightower#hotd critical#viewing these characters through a modern lense and failing to see the issue there is a privilege in itself#it also shows the writers just are not capable of accurately writing for any time period before the 1990s

d&d sansa: i’m a slow learner.
book 11yo sansa: didn’t just beg for mercy—she argued that ned wasn’t in his right mind, drugged with milk of the poppy and badly wounded. she even reminded them of the long-standing friendship between robert and her father. and she did all of this in front of joffrey’s entire court. tell me again how she’s slow.
#book Sansa was a lawyer at 11 fr#but the showrunners think that being girly and sheltered and being abused by multiple people = slow learner#asoiaf#sansa stark

Please give Tai better storylines in Season 4 pleaaaase🙏🙏🙏 She’s one of the last four survivors, why is she still being sidelined? She is such a fascinating and layered character but she is never given anything to DO (other than Van)
This is especially glaring in the wilderness timeline right now. This is Tai’s entire Season 3 arc in the wilderness: She played the role of prosecutor in the Ben trial, she pulled the Queen to kill Ben (but didn’t end up killing him), Other Tai surfaced for one second and then disappeared with no impact on the story, and then Tai just followed along with Shauna and Lottie in wanting to stay in the wilderness. That’s pretty much it. Some interesting bits with potential, but mostly background/supportive work. What happened to her sleepwalking? What happened to the threat of Other Tai? What happened to her close dynamic with Shauna?
And in the adult timeline, they need to stop ignoring the fact that she has a son. A son that seems to have some kind of connection to Other Tai or the Wilderness that could be really interesting to explore if that plot line wasn’t unceremoniously dropped for some reason. And her political career! It was central to her story for the first 2 seasons and then just briefly explained away in the first episode of Season 3 and never mentioned again. Don’t even get me started on her speech after Van’s death that was inexplicably cut from the final product.
Stop. Dropping. Taissa’s. Storylines.
Give her as much importance and impact on the story as Natalie, Misty, and Shauna. She’s the only member of the original Core Four that doesn’t seem to get the same main character treatment. She deserves better in Season 4.
#when they reduced her character and dropped her storylines it damaged the story#I said what I said#taissa turner#yellowjackets
