***There are plenty of tips out there, these are just a few ones I listed. Please know you can always mix methods up, don't just stick to the category that you resulted under. Try new things!
════╡Visual╞════
Highlighters, colored pens, and gel pens
Post-it notes, get multiple colors.
Tabs.
Colorful dividers in their binder to remember where everything is at instantly.
Flashcards
Maps, charts, diagrams, models, or pictures
Watch audiovisuals
Notebooks
Textbooks
Having handouts
Planner to write directions/steps down
Write out checklists of needed formulas, commonly misspelled words, etc.
Write down material on slips of paper and move them around into proper sequence. (Can be done on PC too)
Use the chalkboard/whiteboard to note important information
════╡Aural (audio/music)/Verbal (Linguistic)╞════
Audiobooks
Text Audio reading/writing stites
Use sites like Youtube to better understand a listen
For flashcards use Quizlet to hear the terms being said
Voice recording app → if you need to brainstorm ideas talk about them
Use a talking calculator
Engage in conversation about the subject matter
Ask for oral summaries of material
Have them put the material to a rhythm or tune and rehearse it aloud → this can really increase memorization.
Have reminding words.
Reciting things out loud.
════╡Physical (Hands-On)╞════
Write out checklists of materials to be learned or looked for
Trace words and diagrams on paper
Use textured paper and experiment with different sizes of pens, pencils, and crayons to write down information
Use role-play or dramatize concepts. Students can move objects around to dramatize a concept or act out the concept themselves.
Envision a scene in which the material to be learned is being used or acted out somehow. For example, you could imagine being a character in a novel.
Take notes (on paper, word processor, in textbooks) while reading or listening.
Use some form of body movement (snapping fingers, pacing, mouthing ideas) while reciting the material to be learned.
You can even implement hand signals as indicators of what terms mean.
════╡Logical (mathematical)╞════
Break down the material into smaller segments and find what links them together.
Look for the patterns and relationships between bits of information to maximize your understanding.
Relate patterns in the material to patterns you see in real life. If you have a personal experience that mirrors that pattern it will help you make sense of it.
Use your class notes and rewrite them to line up topics sequentially—especially helpful if your professor jumps from topic to topic during lectures. You can also list or number these.
Use charts, graphs, and outlines. Organize them based on the relationships/sequences you see.
════╡Social (interpersonal)╞════
Work with friends/Groups.
Be in a study group/Have a study buddy.
Talk out/share your ideas with someone to get you thinking.
Make sure to spend most of your studying time with someone to help you learn, share, and experience.
════╡Solitary (Intrapersonal)╞════
Pick a place to study where you feel comfortable. Try to be somewhere that isn’t around friends because it is harder to focus.
Keep a set of earplugs/headphones or earbuds. (if you find outside noise distracting)
Play music that is quiet or even white noise through earphones if there is outside noise.
Make an agenda/To-do list.
Watch videos or listen to podcasts on a topic to deepen your understanding.
Make outlines, flashcards, graphs, charts, diagrams or drawings that allow you to plan and organize

════╡What Can Be Done?╞════
The best thing about learning patterns is that there is no right or wrong, this is all about what one is comfortable with. So don’t worry if the way you study is different then somebody else, that’s normal. The only thing you should be worrying about is what learning style fits best for you, your child, or student(s).
Before you start your journey consider the seven main learning styles:
Visual (spatial): You prefer using pictures, images, and spatial understanding.
Aural (auditory, musical): You prefer using sound and music.
Verbal (linguistic): You prefer using words, both in speech and writing.
Physical (kinesthetic): You prefer using your body, hands.
Logical (mathematical): You prefer using logic, reasoning, and systems.
Social (interpersonal): You prefer to learn in groups or with other people.
Solitary (Intrapersonal): You prefer to work alone and use self-study
Now looking at just this maybe you can narrow down what style probably fits for you but that isn’t enough to say it for sure. So what can you do to get started? Let’s break this down.
Whether you are a student, individual, a teacher, or a parent check out the following:
Watch these youtube videos

Take more than one quiz to see what your learning style is, do you have a mix?

What Type of Learner Are You?
Okay, now you have a better understanding of learning styles and what yours is. So what’s next, well it depends, scroll to which category is for you.
════╡Students/Individuals╞════
The best way to start if you're a student or want to better yourself is to think about what study habits you’ve used in the past and if it's helped you. Write down a list of things that have worked. If nothing has worked, write down what hasn’t worked for you. Keep this list in mind when you take quizzes and see the result of the learning style you have. Compare it with the results and see if it adds up. Still, doesn’t? Try reading more in-depth about the style on the internet. Remember your learning style can be a mix, sometimes it varies on the subject you're studying.
Now, you’ve come this far but do you have everything you need?
-> You can also check out this website.
════╡As a teacher╞════
Have your students take these quizzes so not only you but also your students will know what their learning style is. This way you could better structure your class for your student. You can also find out what resources you can provide for your students that would help them for the school year.
Down below are some tips for the way you can structure your classes and supplies you could can provide for students who all have different learning styles.
Every student will have a different learning style so it is important to incorporate resources for every student's learning style when possible. Of course some forms of studying limit some learning styles so it’s important to provide resources that could accommodate certain students.
For Lectures
Have power points with examples and color.
Pause them to explain or have audio in PowerPoint video.
Provide students with a transcript of the video, or print out each slide with the written information so they can follow along.
Have fill-in-the-blank spots for the PowerPoint sheets you print out. This way they can write in keywords and it can stick better into their brain.
You can also click the CC button on Youtube for subtitles if they are provided.
If a student doesn’t do well with lectures, try to see if there are articles that could better explain your lectures. If you only provide readings try providing lectures made by yourself, by Youtube, or Khan Academy.
You can also include activities that require one to psychically move or do something, this better helps hands-on learners. If you’re teaching subjects like biology or history use a 3D model of a globe or anatomy human/Skeleton or a plant/animal cell model.
Try to implement games into a lecture if possible.
Sometimes it helps to quiz each other, in this case, don’t grade them on getting the answer correct, just as long as they give an answer that shows that they have a good idea of the material and that they're thinking about it. Talking about it more can help open the minds of students so make a discussion board so the students can share thoughts and learn something from one another.
For Graded Quizzes/Homework
Use flashcards and include pictures, reminding words, and highlighting the words to help you remember.
A digital site that uses flashcards and many other ways to study terms is Quizlet.
Although some schools and teachers do not like this program, you can allow your students to use brainly, where students and tutors give a helping hand to anyone with any subject. (a lot of answers may be given but with no explanation).
For essays/responses
For writing use sticky notes or google docs to jot out ideas.
Programs like Grammarly can help catch spelling mistakes and its free to download so give it a shot.
Try making short key handouts for students to keep with them about writing.
->You check out what tools students may need on this website, or on this one here.
->To see the next step scroll down to click the next arrow to receive more information.
════╡As a Parent╞════
Your child can take these quizzes so you both understand what resources you may need to have at home so they can study.
On this website, you can find some things to keep in mind based on your learning style(s). You can also check out this webpage.
Try to see if your child’s teacher can help with certain resources.
A good place to start is to see how much your child understands the subject they’re studying. And then have supplies and use study methods that match their learning style.
-> Remember if your child is still at the stage of a toddler they are still growing so their learning style can definitely change. In fact, everyone’s learning style can change over time, so it never hurts to try something different.

Study Habits & Learning Styles
Tumblr media

───────────────────────────────
So by now whether you are a student, individual, teacher, parent, or guardian you understand what learning styles are, how they work, and some tips you may want to implement in your life based on yours/others’ learning styles. But is there anything else we should know? What about study habits, which ones are good, which ones are bad? How about quizzes? Well, there is more than one right answer to this. In fact, it varies on the individual of what’s right or wrong for them in this case.
════╡General Info on Learners/learning╞════
Learning is a process, it can take a long time or a very short time to understand something, it just depends on how something is taught to someone. Most of the time when we are taught something in school we go through the process of classical conditioning or observational learning (two of the three types of learning humans experience).
-> To understand more in-depth of what these terms mean, click here.
Knowing this can help you understand what form of learning you are undergoing so you are aware of which learning form you struggle most with. Although it may be a stretch you could possibly find that changing the way you're being thought of something specifically could significantly help you.
════╡In(effective) Study Habits╞════
Tumblr media
Aside from being unaware of your learner type, some of the key factors that contribute to students' success are their study habits–how they choose to study. For example, a lot of the time students will procrastinate for a good amount of time before getting started with homework. What’s even worse is when students try to multitask by texting their friends and doing homework. Of course, this sounds fun and like it could work just as long as the person gets their homework done, right? Wrong, there is no such thing as successful multitasking because according to Neuroscientist Edward Kang, he explains that “[M]uch of the time spent is wasted on context switching, where the brain has to restart and refocus” (1). As it is noted here it has been proven that students who do not multitask end up being more successful in their studies than others. Although multitasking is only one factor that contributes to studying being all for not, there are many other study habits that are ineffective.
Here is a list of many study habits one should drop:
Studying for long periods of time
Studying a single subject for a long period of time and repeating phrases over and over to memorize them (known as massed practice)
Reviewing one topic repeatedly before moving on to another topic (blocked practice)
Reading and rereading a text
Highlighting or underlining important concepts in a text and then reviewing
Reviewing notes
Here are habits you should adopt:
Pre-Test → Pre-testing improves post-test results more than spending the same amount of time studying.
Spaced Practice → Spacing out study sessions—focusing on a topic for a short period on different days has shown to improve retention and recall more than massed practice. (Flashcards are most effective here).
Self Quizzing → Can help increase one’s memory.
Interleaving Practices →  A more effective method of studying is to work on a set of problems that are related but not all of the same kind—for example, a set of math word problems that call for an addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division. The consecutive problems cannot be solved with the same strategy. This is more effective than doing one multiplication problem after another.
Paraphrasing and Reflecting → Helps you understand what you just read better.
Highlight key phrases/words. [1]
Use graphic organizers/outlines (there are a lot). [1]
Write down words/phrases you don't understand. [1]
Paraphrase things in your on words because it helps you better understand. [1]
Reading out loud/rereading might be needed if you read silently. [1]
The list goes on about what’s effective and ineffective and it's important to understand these factors as well your learning style because they all contribute.
-> To learn about what study habits are good take a look at edutopia.org. Most of the credible information is offered by Neuroscientists.

════╡Learning a Second Language╞════
So of course depending on the subject one is learning about, your learning style can change. Learning a language doesn’t necessarily depend on one's learning style. This is because if you think about it, learning a language requires all of the seven main learning styles in order to learn and comprehend a language completely. Audio and visuals are two of the main components needed to learn a language and there are so many other factors so the good thing about learning a language is that there isn’t only one way to learn it.
One thing one should keep in mind is a child has a much easier time learning a language than adults because it takes nothing for them to pick up a language without learning grammar. Adults on the other hand have a harder time learning a new language because their minds are so fixated on the rules and grammar in a language. We tend to worry a lot about how we will sound and how to say things the right way. This is also why learning a language can be so difficult.
Key Things about learning a language/finding a learning style:
Don’t stick to what you usually do. [2]
Try new things/ this is all trial and error. [2]
If you have the opportunity to put yourself in an environment that uses the language you are learning, do it. → really helps hands-on learners. [2]
Listening, reading, and writing are very important. Don’t stick to what you usually do. [2]
Flash cards are good to have. [2]

The Beginning: All Learners Express
Tumblr media

───────────────────────────────
════╡How It All Began╞════
Everyone has a different approach to how they study so shouldn’t we have resources that are fit to help all types of learners out there? Education is essential to have in everyone's lives, the best part is that it has some amazing benefits but it is not always easy. It can be difficult to understand the material taught in class, especially with subjects like biology or physics which contain dense information that students are advised to know well or even memorize. Due to this, students can become very stressed about memorizing material or studying for tests seeing that the suggested study habits or old methods that teachers use do not always work for everyone. Students may find that the teacher's way of instructing, hinders their ability to fully understand because they have a different way of learning. For instance, visual learners, tend to be able to memorize terms by using images and colors to represent the terms they need to know. Whereas, an audio learner might prefer to hear the terms and repeat them while studying. This is because we all have a different approach to how we learn, think, and understand.
This means student voices need to be heard, schools need to provide more than one way to understand a class, or better yet design classes specifically for audio, visual, and all other learners out there! There are many ways we can get there but everyone has to be on the same page first, our parents, teachers, and schools all need to understand this. Only then can we drive students to success.
════╡Why Fix It?╞════
So, you’re probably wondering how much is this really a problem? Well, a lot from what I can tell you. Usually, this problem stems from inexperience and being unaware of your learning style. So it’s always better to know what kind of learner you are because using the right style makes your learning more efficient. Even if you are out of school, knowing how you learn can still help you lead an efficient life. According to lifehack.org, for audio learners “[r]eading and studying visually would be borderline useless – they learned everything they needed to through listening” (Poole 1). This goes to show just how important it is to study effectively and there is no reason for everyone to study the same because not everyone retains information the same way.
════╡Next Step to Success╞════
Now of course the question comes to mind, what I can I do? It’s simple. Whether you are a student, teacher, or a concerned parent, or are a person looking to better understand their learning patterns check out my post here which touches on learning styles.
