Welcome to Autodale!
In 2017 Dead Sound (David James Armsby) made the  animated short film “Being Pretty”. The short film about the dystopian world of Auto Dale. A world where the citizens live in an idealized suburban town where they live, reproduce to have replacement and walk to their death. From that first short film a great series of concept books, sculptures, drawings and short films has reached what I would call the best of art on youtube. Every film included a “Making of...” video came. The artistry, frustration, madness and passion shown to the audience. Each movie has its own themes and now the newest ones, a soundtrack. The very best of youtube is where it’s creators can show their own projects no matter how weird, this is the very best of youtube. Check out Dead Sound on YouTube!

This darling movie telling a story set in a puritan world where our protagonist has to question her point of view and become more understanding of those demonized by her society is impactful beyond words. The beautifully animated movie with a fresh art style paired with a haunting and enthralling soundtrack is sure to go to the Oscars. I keep coming back to the exchange between Robyn and her Father:
"We must do what we're told!"
"But why, Father? Why?"
"... I'm afraid."
Shines a light on prejudice and will bring you to tears. With themes of understanding others, prejudice and environmentalism it applies to our past and present. One could even relate Robyns arc of finding out she is what her father hunts to finding out one is lgbt+ and the fear of being rejected. The movie surprisingly is much darker than one would expect and doesn't hold back on showing the ugly and hard parts of a puritan world, very clearly showing the antagonist justifying their wrong doings using God.
While the story is fairly predictable it does not take away from ones enjoyment and we could all use a break from all the “disney twist villains”.
With stunning animation, great voice acting and an original story with complex themes this movie wins you over. Available on Apple TV. Check it out!

The Queens Gambit
I play chess and have been to competitions and I loved this show. It captures the atmosphere of playing chess with its beautiful and attention grabbing visuals that make it easy for people who don’t play chess to understand. The emotional attachment you get to this poor girl thrown into a world she dominates and falls victim to at the same time is impressive.
With its style and personality it wins you over in only 7 episodes. Loved it and you should watch it! Available on Netflix.
