Farmers follies: episode nine
Lets go check on farmer, shall we?
Back on the surface, farmer raced this way and that, trying his best to keep up with the strange little shrew fellow he had encountered moments before. The fellow was fast, giving farmer quite the workout as he tried his best to keep up... That is, until the fellow suddenly tripped on one of the bricks in the road, falling to the ground with a heavy thud. "Ow ow ow..." He muttered, his tail laying limply around him as stars cartoonishly swirled over his head.
Alarmed, farmer ran over. "Beep bap?.." {Are you ok sir?..} He uttered, offering his hand for the boy to hold. Dazed, the boy shook his head, chasing away the stars. He blinks, and looks up at the concerned face of the farmer. The farmers head tilts, A small smile meeting his face... Which quickly disappeared when the boy let out an ear splitting shriek, the farmer wincing and covering his ears. "AAAAAADONTHURTMEDONTHURTMEDONTHURTMEEEEE" the boy shrieked, summoning a rather large microphone to shield himself, hiding behind it whilst shaking like a leaf.
The farmer quickly recollected himself, and held his hands up in a defensive manner. "Woah woah woah... Beep bap! Bep beep dai!" (relax a bit! I'm not going to hurt you!) "H-HOW CAN I BE SO SURE!? WHOAREYOU-"
seems this little shrew isn't gonna tone it down with just basic beeps and boops, was he? Why was he so scared? surely it wasn't because of... Oh... That strange spell from before.. He threw up when farmer spoke.. Oops. 'Crud.' Farmer thought to himself. 'I didn't mean to do that. Does he think I'm trying to hurt him? No no... I'm just happy to see another angel here!.. Uhm.. Hm... Well... The beeping won't work...! I got it!'
Clearing his throat, that heavy pain in his chest faded away, as he turned to face the shrew, that calm smile meeting his face once more. The shrew fellow gave a confused look, shaking all over, still hiding behind the microphone. 'i... Is he...?'
"hello my friend, what a nice day! Join me for a song, what do you say?" Farmer sang softly, expecting the shrew to sing along... But, no song was returned. It seems he's nervous.
"Hey now, I assure it'll be alright! Settle yourself down, I don't wish to fight!" Nothing yet...
"Hey now... Please... Don't cry..." "...p...pl... Please stand by..." A reply! Finally!
"There we go, there it is, take your time! Take it easy now, it's not a waste of time! My name is farmer, I apologize for the scare!" "M... My name is Skippy... N.. Not like anyone cares..."
Saying his name outright!? Oh, no...
"hey now pal, what makes you say that?" "B... Because my voice always falls flat"
Such short responses...
"...hey pal, c'mon, you're talking now, right?" "O-only because I don't want to fight" "why would we do such a thing?" "B-because that's what Vesania sings" "Vesania? No no, don't listen to that guy!!... Hold on now..." He sees tears streaming from underneath the boys hat, his eyes obscured.
"...please don't cry..." He moves the hat to wipe the tears away... Seeing that the little shrews eyes were just as white as Kelly's during their own singing match. Alarmed, Farmer goes to sing, when Skippy suddenly broke away from his grasp, shaking even more than before.
"P-please don't hurt me, that's all I ask! I know vesania gave you this task! If I go to hell quietly, will you spare my dear friend? I really do not wish for her story to end!! She's done so much for me, too much for a failure of a worker! She should've just left me alone as a miserable little lurker! I don't want her to die with me, no no not at all!!! Please please please I'll answer your call! JUST DON'T TAKE HER AS WELL, THAT'S ALL I ASK!!! HER HEART REALLY ISN'T UP FOR THE TASK!!!!!" his voice became shrill and full of fear, his singing shaking and lingering as though it were his last dying wishes.
Now usually, A demon would gladly take advantage of such a pathetic little soul. Oh how quickly he would've been dragged to hell!.. If it were a demon at least. But it isn't now, is it?
Farmer, quickly regaining his composure.. He walked towards Skippy. Skippy closed his eyes and braced for impact, the sweet release of death!... But it never came.
"...?....!?" Instead, what happened.. Was farmer giving the shaking shrew a hug. Skippy seemed surprised, why wasn't this demon ripping him to shreds? Was this a trick? Surely its a trick right!?... But no.. He waited and waited.. Yet death never arrived.
Instead... Farmer softly sang.
"I won't hurt you, nor your dear friend. I can assure you this really isn't the end! I'm not a demon, I sing that true, this little meeting you will never rue! I'm just here to collect things for my dear rabbit friend, here to this town he really did send! I saw you at the news station with fire in your eyes, perhaps fake news is something you despise? Why be a worker when you could be a boss? Why give up yourself, what is the loss? I say give yourself a chance, I'm not here to cause harm!!!" "...I... I guess your words cause my heart to warm..." "there we go, see? Look at me! I'm not a demon, nor a messenger from hell. C'mon now, relax! Your thoughts you seem to dwell. Just deep breaths, count to ten!!! It'll all calm down, you'll surely know when!"
Skippy looked up at the farmer, tears still in his eyes... But slowly... He counted.
"One.. Two... Three... Four...." "There we go, keep the score!" "Five.. Six.. Seven.. Eight..." "Take your time now, its not too late!" "Heh.. Nine... Ten... I think I have Zen..." Skippy took a deep breath, and finally relaxed, his eyes returning to a soft dark grey, as the song itself seemed to fade away.
After a moment.. Skippy finally spoke. "T... Thank you... I-i'm sorry, I'm so sorry, I got so scared..." "Awww beep Bap! Beep, Beh du?" {Awww don't worry about it my friend! Say, would you want to talk about it?} "I... I don't know, I don't wish to trouble you anymore than I already have..." Skippy mumbled, fidgeting with the microphone a bit. "Beep! Bap, beep ba du?" {It won't be any trouble! C'mon now, what's going on pal?}
"w.. Well... I... I guess it all started when the boss took over..." "Boss?" "Y.. Yeah, the boss.... H... He Uhm... Doesn't believe in telling the truth. H-he's always broadcasting made up stories and lies! And yet people here think they're true! It hurts to know end, t-the people deserve to know the truth of the day!" That fiery gaze seemed to return... "...beep ba?" {Why don't you do it?} "M-ME!?" there the gaze went, giving back way to fear. "N-no no definitely not! I-i couldn't possibly do that! I-i'm just a lowly worker of his!" "...bap?" {Have you tried?} "W... Well... Once.. And it did feel nice... ! B-but that's besides the point! I can't! I just can't! I-i'm not a good newscaster!"
Farmer drew closer, looking him dead in the eyes. Skippy froze a bit, alarmed at the sudden serious expression. "... Beep bap!" {Lets give it a try newscaster!} "I- W-what?-"
He didn't have time to question, when farmer suddenly grabbed his hand, rushing him away towards the farmhouse.
"W-WHERE ARE WE GOING!?-" "HOME!!" "H-HOME!?-" "YES!!!"
with no room to argue, Skippy suddenly found himself being placed in front of a rather tall and menacing rabbit opponent. Shaking once more, he hid behind his microphone timidly, not even bothering to check around at his surroundings, his gaze deadlocked on the rabbits single working eye.
"Beep! Bap beep!" {Oswald! Meet newscaster!} "M-my name isn't-" "newscaster huh?" Skippy froze again, letting out a small and timid "eep" as Oswald lower himself to get a closer look at him. "P-please don't hurt m-me" "...if I wanted to, you'd already be dead." "W-WHAT-" with that, the little shrew fainted, overwhelmed from everything going on. "Oops-" "sigh..." Oswald grumbled under his breath, then looked back at the concerned farmer, who was now busy trying to bring Skippy back to consciousness. "how many people do you plan to bring back to my house, exactly?" "Uhm... A lot!" "...at least you're honest" Oswald grumbled, as he got back up.
"Well, just get him to one of the other guests rooms, and I'll prepare dinner. You focus on waking him up, alright?" Farmer nodded enthusiastically, saluting. He picks Skippy up, and dashes to one of the guests rooms. Oswald watched them leave, his face a deadpan tired expression. 'what have I gotten myself into...' "Uh... Did I miss something?"
Oswald's ears perked up as he quickly looked towards the source of the voice, seeing Kelly holding a few logs for the fireplace. "...well we've got another visitor, so it ain't just you it seems. Got the logs I see?" "Eeeeyup, freshly chopped.... Though ya might wanna get that blade fixed, it's a bit dull." "Yeah yeah whatever, but where can I possibly get it fixed at huh?"
Kelly thought to himself, fixing his glasses as he did so. "I know a guy..."

Farmers follies: episode eight
Deep in the bowels of hell, where the strongest of demons lurk about, there stood a birds cage, A familiar fellow trapped inside with chains on his arm, neck, wings and legs.
He attempted to fly away from his prison, but the cage and chains sparked at his attempts, prompting him to yelp in pain, and fall back down to the ground. "d..dangit.. What even is this..." He mumbled, looking around as best as he could. He hadn't stopped crying ever since he was dragged here, the smoke and fire being all he could hear and smell. He hated this place. He wanted to get out. To see lucky again, to find her and get out of this hell!!! But how? He's trapped... Surely there must be some exit, right?.. Wrong. For he was stuck in the worst part of hell.. Vesania's palace. Few rarely visit, and even fewer live long enough to leave. Only Vesania's generals have the ability to stay here... That and... A small fellow, who was peering into the room with worry. 'oh.. Another one?' He thought to himself, slowly making his way forward.
Retro's ears twitched, sensing the soft sounds of the intruders presence. Alarmed, he turned to face him, backing away further into the cage, hissing from fear. Startled, the intruder jumps back. "no no no wait, calm down! I mean you no harm!!" "HSSSSS... who... Who are you. Who. Are you the one who trapped me here!?" "No no not at all!!! M-my name is uh... Well everyone knows it already.. My names Rob! Uhm... Sorry for startling you, I just wanted to make sure you were ok!" "Me?.. But.. Wait.. Are you a demon?" "...n...not exactly" "...what are you?" "Well... Uhm..."
Fixing his hat, and cautiously tugging at his bowtie, he whispers "what I am is an enigma for all, for I cannot hear Vesania's call... So he keeps me locked with my friend I hold so dear, hoping maybe someday I'd give into fear..not like that's ever gonna happen... I.. I hope... It's not all bad though! It's pretty nice here sometimes!!!" Retro's head tilts, him registering what rob had sang to him. "Really? But.. You seem so sad.. Y... You're crying..." "So are you!...uhm... I think my friend Ricky said that.. If a soul in hell is a good person they.. Can't stop crying.. I.. It's how to tell if a being is a victim of a demonic kidnapping or... Something.. Yeah... I'm.. Guessing Vesania did so to you as well?" "Capture me?.... Yeah... He did... L...look I can't stay, I need to go as soon as I can!!! My.. My friends still out there, and she... She needs to be saved! Please let me out, please?"
Rob gave him a solemn expression, shaking his head. "I'm.. I'm sorry but.. Don't you see those chains?... Those... Those aren't going to go away... Not for A very, very long time...."
Retro's face fell... You mean... He's stuck down here? Trapped? Whilst lucky's stuck on the surface, alone and likely afraid? No... No it can't be... "There's gotta be a way to get these off! I can't stay here!!!" "I'm sorry, I wish I knew..."
Retro started to panic, and Rob winced at his fear. "I uh.... Oh! Are.. Are you hungry? Sometimes food can help calm one down!!" "Food?.. No I'm not eating the souls of the innocent! Forget it!!!" "What!? We would never!.. Its just some grilled cheese... I could make it!" They eat normal food down here? But the angels always said they ate the souls of the departed!!! Was.. That a lie? "Wait here, i'll go make some!" "Uh.. Ok?.." Rob ran off, leaving retro there. Maybe the grilled cheese is made with blood or flesh? Maybe there's an eyeball in them! Maybe....
His thoughts were interrupted when his stomach growled. Wincing, he lays down, curling up into a tight ball. He's hungry... So very very hungry... He hadn't eaten breakfast yesterday, or anything at all, so his hunger... Wait.. That scent.
Perking back up, he sees Rob walk back in with some grilled cheese. Instinctively, his head tilts. Food? Food? Is there an eyeball? Flesh? "Here you go! Uhm... Enjoy!"
Rob sets it down in front of him, backing away slightly. Retro sniffs at it, then lifts the bread. No blood. No eyeballs, no flesh, just cheese.. Lots of cheese... So hungry...
Before he knew it, he was chowing down fiercely, grumbling as he ate, table manners forgotten due to his hunger. Rob couldn't help but chuckle at this, he was acting so.. Silly! So cute! He's like a little mouse!
Eventually, the grilled cheese was gone, retro satisfied from the meal. Despite it being a simple made sandwich, it tasted very good! Almost like a gourmet sandwich! Wait.. His manners... Oops!
He gives rob a look of embarrassment. "s-sorry I uh... I didn't... Respect the meal" "oh its ok! Trust me I've seen crazier eaters. You're fine!" "...I hope so.. Uhm... Could I have some more? Please? If it's not much of a bother" "oh sure! Wait here, i'll make some more!!!" He tips his hat, and leaves, retro going back to laying down patiently, his tail wagging. Maybe living here won't be so bad?.. who knows.
He was unaware Vesania had been watching the whole thing unfold from this throne, gazing at him through a crystal eye. 'well well...' He thought. 'seems he's made a friend with the toymaker... Never the matter, I will speak to him eventually.. May as well let the little intruder get accustomed.. For he is never leaving my sight.'

Farmers follies: episode seven
Oswald was busy toiling away at the fields, removing a few of the decayed plants and diseased roots. He never thought he'd be trying to fix this old place up, but here he is, trying to. Who knew that farmer would be so.. Motivating. 'Hm.. Where is he even from anyway? Hadn't seen him around here, nor around town... Did he come from outta town? Surely not that, no one comes to this hellhole anyway-' "slow down, I can't keep up-" "sorry!!!"
Oswald's ears perked up, as he looked up at... What is that, farmer rushing back with someone? Who is that? They're A bit disheveled, look like they hadn't showered in weeks... "What the hell-" "rabbit!!!!" "Oswald. Its oswald." "Right- AHEM.... beep Bap be dai!" {I met this fellow down by the road!}
Oswald glared down at the fellow farmer had brought along. The fellow flinched a bit. 'that rabbit... Whys he so.. Tall?' "And you are?" "Uh- well- my.. My name is Kelly. Kelly Rodgers. Sorry for the trouble..." Kelly bows at him, Oswald giving a confused glare. "first time I actually heard someone say their name up front, and not some stage name." "Oh uh.. I have that too... I think.. What was it again?... Uh..." Kelly turned to the side, trying to remember what his stage name was, whilst farmer turned back to Oswald. "beep Bap be! Bep beep ba dai?" {They need a place to stay awhile! Is it ok if they stay here?} "This guy?.. Why?" "Beep Bap be! Beeeeep?" {You said I could ask around for help and I did! Can he stay pleaseeeee?} "Well...."
The rabbit looked back at the man, who was mumbling to himself, then sighed. "Fine. But he's gonna have to pull his own weight around here. got it?" Farmer twirls from happiness, whilst Kelly, knocked out of his thoughts, nodded swiftly. "Oh- Got it, sure I can. I can.. Do things, I guess." "well that guess had better turn into a 'you will' if you plan to stay here" "...yes sir" "good. Now farmer, can ya get back to getting those items? we kinda need em if we're gonna make a dent in this place." Farmer laughed sheepishly, then rushed off, leaving Kelly and Oswald behind. How could he have forgotten? He must've gotten too distracted to remember. Oh well! With the list in hand and the money in his pocket, he made his way down the dirt road towards the gray streets of inkwell city. Oh the sights and sounds, toons rushing this way and that, random stalls lazily selling their wares, A soft call of someone selling papers... No. Focus lucky, can't get too distracted. Looking at the list, he notes how most of the things he needed were gardening products... Well actually, all of them were. Should be easy to get then! Just some seeds, A new shovel.. Yeah! This'll be easy! Farmer looks around at the many stalls around him, his eyes eventually resting on a oddly colorful stall in particular, the flowers had a faded pink and blue look to them, the first color farmers actually seen in this world!
The stall was empty.. But a note seemed to be left on the countertop. 'Out for lunch!! But feel free to take anything!!!' With a small smiley face drawn on it. Farmer seemed a bit confused, why leave things up for free?... He thinks a moment, then grabs the things he needed from the stall, leaving the money it would've costed behind under a pile of flowers. Smiling, he takes the bag and walks off.
He just got here, surely he doesn't have to leave so soon? Fixing his hat, he decides to take a look around, see what there is to see, after all, its his first time in such a big surface world city! So many sights and sounds, so many toons! Gosh, how exciting this is!
He looks up at the big buildings, seeing the tv screens littered throughout. A mouse was there, seemingly telling the news... Though it wasn't good news. 'Huh?... I highly doubt pigs can fly...' Perplexed, he drew closer... Accidentally bumping into somebody. "EEP-" "O-oh! Sorry!" "i-it's ok, I-i'm fine, p-please don't hurt me-" farmer took a step back, confused on why this person would be afraid of him already. He got a good look at him, A small fellow wearing a grey sweater and bowtie, grey hair, shaking figure...wait, is that a tail? "Are you an angel!?- COUGH cough- ow..." Farmer shudders, forgetting about the curse he had for A moment, the pain... Wait, did the fellow also get affected? They're coughing and hacking a ton, almost as though they were about to... Oh.. They threw up.
Alarmed, farmer rushes over to his aid, beeping too fast to translate. The fellow in grey fearfully looked up at him through the coughing, sputtering out "l-look I don't mean anything! I was just looking! P-please don't hurt me!!! Please!!!!" Before farmer could get a word in edgewise, the fellow dashed off.
Alarmed, and a bit dumbfounded, farmer gave chase, using everything in his power to keep up with this mouse fella.
Whilst he did so... Well...
Why don't we check on retro for A moment, Hm? Dear reader?... No objections? Or perhaps many.. Well, despite what you may say, I'm afraid it's important we check on him regardless... Don't you think?

Farmers follies: episode six
Now, life isn't always fair to those who live it.
It throws you curve balls, keeps you guessing, one minute you could be having the time of your life, the next? All hell breaks loose, and you find yourself walking down a dusty old road with nowhere to go, pill bottle in hand, the call louder than the sounds of the birds themselves. At least, that's how it is for A mister Kelly Rodgers.
You see, Kelly wasn't always like this. He had a happy life, emphasis on had. What once was an ordinary man with a thriving family, now reduced to that of a loner, doomed to be a dead man walking. He looked up at the grey sky above, as he drew further and further away from the city he once called home. A melancholic Thursday morning, despite the sun shining through the clouds, he just couldn't seem to follow that light any longer, for his own spark had long since gone out. How did he know this? Well... The voices. The song. The call that everyone seemed to fear. Its gotten louder and louder over these past couple of days, and it had finally reached a breaking point. But he couldn't just die in the middle of the street. No. That'd be ridiculous! He instead opted to go far, far away, close to the supposedly abandoned farmhouse. With a heavy sigh, he spoke in a somber tone.
"what went wrong here?... Psh... Too much went wrong here... Oh look at me, I'm talking to myself, this is just... Ugh. Pathetic, useless, utterly ridiculous... Whatever."
He looks around, his whit eyes casting a slight glow throughout, though he didn't acknowledge it, he knew he was far gone. "...hm, this place seems far out enough.. No one will find me here."
With a heavy heart, and the song louder than ever, he pulled the pill bottle closer, gazing at it with empty eyes. These were the type of sleeping drugs that could knock out an entire elephant. he had swiped them from Hotaru's hospital the last time he was there, while he wasn't looking. he felt a bit guilty for stealing from an old friend but, what's that to change with the crimes he's already done? He wasn't an innocent man after all. He did so much, too much, that fire was his fault! All of it! His fault! His fa- "BEEP!!!" {WAIT!!!}
he jumped back a bit, looking up to see.. What is that, A farmer? What's he doing out here? "Who..."
The fellow quickly ran up to him, A concerned expression on his face. 'Who is this guy? Did he live in that farmhouse? Wait no. That place has been abandoned ever since she passed away...never seen him around town before...' "...excuse me.. Can I.. Help you?" He grumbled. "Bap beep!?" {What's with the pill bottle!?}
Shit. He sees that. Alright, time to lie for the last time. "It's just my prescription, nothing major. Was just walking home from getting it at the hospital." The boy shook his head wildly, no no that's definitely not just prescription, those eyes are a dead giveaway. Kelly sighed, and attempted to walk away, but the boy persisted, blocking his way. Kelly was getting frustrated. "look pal. Can you stay out of my business? I don't want any sort of conversation at this time, just wanna get home. Alright?"
He kept persisting, shaking his head no. Kelly gave a frustrated sigh, he could feel his anger rising. That wasn't always pretty, but was he really gonna beat up some stranger?...
Well his question was answered when the fellow tried to rest an arm on his hand. His patience lost, Kelly yanked his hand away, and grabbed the farmers arm with another, his grip tight, the farmer yelped at the sudden pain. "I said stay out of it. Is that really too hard of a request to follow?"
The farmer looked up at him fearfully, he could see the anger in his eyes, the rage, he could see it all.
But as Kelly looked into the farmers eyes.. He could see something as well... Hope. Kindness. Not a single glimmer of twisted ideas, no hate, just.. Genuine concern. It reminded him of someone.. But.. Who? Their face is faded in his memory, all of their faces are, even Hotaru's. All covered by that godforsaken flame that's taken over his vision. But.. This farmers face was clear, despite his fear, it seemed he was still.. Worried.. About him.. But why? Farmer felt Kelly's grip loosen a bit, A pang of guilt in his eyes. Maybe.. Maybe now is his chance.
"...beep Bap be, bep baaa..." {...take a deep breath in, and let it out...} Kelly looked at him with slight guilt and confusion, but.. Slowly did what the farmer asked him of, in and out, in and out... "....sorry. About that." He muttered under his breath.
The farmer waved the thought away, as if silently saying that it was alright. "Beep bep?..." {What's wrong?...} Kelly.. He didn't know how to word it at all, and farmer could tell this well..."...beep...bep Bap dai?" {...could.. You try singing it out?}
...that's something Kelly hasn't done in a long, long time.. But.. Worth a shot, right? With a heavy sigh, he slowly began to sing in a melancholic tone...
"dunno why you'd ask, are you really sure you're up to the task?" Farmer felt the heaviness in his chest fade, maybe the curse lifts when he has to sing? Well... Only one way to find out.
"Of course I am, why wouldn't I be? Its clear something's wrong, melancholy I can see!" ...no pain, and seems Kelly wasn't effected either. Good! "c'mon now, speak, what is on your mind?" "Ha, you really are one of a kind... Well well well, where to begin? Abandoned by god, no next of kin. Sins so vast for all the world to see! That is how it'd truly be." "Why would you say you're abandoned sir? deep in these fields where demons could lure...." "Ha! Let them lure me away all they'd please, I wouldn't mind, death would be my pleas! Oh please dear demon, lend me a song, I don't have time, I don't have long."
"but what could cause these thoughts to rise? Your tone, it falls into twisted cries!" "Ha, that's a story not for the faint of heart! It may as well give you quite a start. Burn marks all over, I'm branded for life!" "Maybe that's what gave your heart such strife.." Farmers worried tone increased, this man really was willing to fall for the call, practically begging for it to take him.
"Please tell me sir, when did this began?" "A cowardly move, that's what, how far I ran. But I cannot run any longer, no longer will I fall for fears monger. It's time for me to end this sorry tale, I will fall! I have failed!" "Is it really the end?" "The rules I won't bend." "But that shouldn't be the case! I could see your eyes, your heart, it'll race! C'mon sir, please, just listen to my plea" "why should I? I'm as useful as a flea. My life I've lived with fury and regret, c'mon now, surely you'd get?" "Well... Uh..."
Kelly shot a quizzical look. Huh. Guess he wins this one. his last win in this sad tale...Wait... That farmer...
The farmer suddenly grabbed his hand, looking him dead in the eyes. Kelly looked on in shock.
"Regrets and mistakes can be made, it's clear a terrible price you've paid. But those trials shouldn't say to give up now! C'mon now, don't let it have a cow! Look at how long you've lasted throughout, here you stand, weakened but stout. I know the song says its the end of this tale, but you won't fall, you hadn't failed. Fury and regret is completely alright, give yourself time, you can set this tale ablaze, you can still fight!" "...but what if I've no fight left in me? C'mon please, just let me be." "You do sir you do, you've lasted this long! I can tell there's something wrong! But it shouldn't mean to give up here, don't give in to your minds fear! Please sir please, open up your eyes! Don't fall for those thoughts terrible lies!" "...but don't you hear it? Vesania, he calls..." "Whatever it is, don't listen to it at all. Listen to me, to the birds singing praise!" "...I guess... It gives my heart a raise..."
The birds. He can hear them again. The fires going down... "...my apologies, my head isn't screwed on right.. But... I guess I can continue on with this fight...." As he said that, the white faded away. Back to a solid black color, hip hip hooray!
Farmer beamed, happy for this fellow to give life another chance! "..just if I fail, please, don't wail." "I know you won't, you still have a chance! C'mon now, we can continue lifes dance!"
Kelly sighed, and slowly nodded, the song in the air fading away. "...I guess that'd be nice but.. Where could I possibly go? I don't have a home to return to.. Not anymore."
Farmer thought a moment, then snapped his fingers. "You could-" 'ACK-' there's that pain again. Yup. Still there. Let's try that again. "Beep Bap bee! Beep bep dai..." {You could live with me back at the farm! I'm sure Oswald wouldn't mind!} Kelly raised a brow, but sighed. "If you say so, I wouldn't be surprised if he said no, though.. Whoever he is." "Bap bee, beep bep skedop!" {aw don't worry, he really is a good soul!} "Whatever ya say.. Pal"
Farmer smiled, and lead Kelly back to the farm. This was a new start for him, surely a good one! At least.. He hopes so.
"ugh... Ew... Gross... Feelings." Everette grumbled, watching from above in the trees. "Whatever. That guys a lost cause. Surely that happiness is temporary, you really think its that easy to be happy again? That that song made any difference?.... Aaand I'm talking to myself again. Whatever..."

Farmers follies: episode five
The sun began to rise over the small farmhouse, the summer air offering a warm welcome to an otherwise somber place. The sunlight filtering through a boarded up window, woke up the otherwise exhausted farmer. Stretching a bit, he looks around, confused at first as to where he was, until eventually it clicked. The fall, landing here, that rabbit, and that strange pain in his chest. So it really wasn't some elaborate dream. Guess he isn't in Kansas anymore, huh?
With a heavy sigh, he got up, getting ready for the day. His clothes were ruined from the day before, so that rabbit, Oswald, had lent him some new ones to wear whilst the others were cleaned and patched up. Standard overalls, some boots, new bandages... Well, at least he still had his hat!
Once he was ready, he walked out from his room, following the welcoming scent of bacon and eggs. Seems Oswald was cooking again. "Ah. You're finally awake. That's good." Oswald said as farmer walked into the kitchen. Farmer happily greeted him, waving, then turned his attention to what Oswald was cooking. "Don't expect quality with these pal. I'm not the greatest cook"
Farmer scoffed. Such an obvious lie! Last nights cooking was to die for!... Erm... Metaphorically.
"it's gonna take awhile for these to finish. Could you go grab some berries from the garden out back? Ignore the ones with the mold on em." Mold?.. Well, guess he will find out. Farmer gave a thumbs up, and swiftly ran out to the backyard.
What met his eyes was a rather sorry sight. A garden way past its prime, most of the plants dead or wilting, weeds everywhere, who let it fall into such a sorry state of disarray? and why?
Farmer couldn't help but feel awful for the poor garden, nothing like it should suffer so... Wait.. Is that a grave in the corner?-
"Can ya hurry up A bit? Foods getting cold." Farmer jumped, looking back at Oswald. "what?"
Farmer looked back at the garden, and quickly beeped a reply. "Whys the farm in this state?" He nods.
"Eh... I just don't really have motivation to keep it up anymore, that's why. It's a wonder some of these plants have survived for this long... Eh, won't be long until they wilt away too. A shame really, this place used to be... Magical, in a way" farmer gave a concerned expression. Oswald seemed.. Very somber about this garden. Could that grave stone be why?... "Anyway." Oswald sighed, fixing his hat a bit. "Hurry up and grab those berries, no need to stay in this dump."
Oswald went back inside, and farmer thought for A moment to himself. A place like this? Left to rot away? No no that just won't do at all!! Farmer fixed his hat, and walked towards the garden with a look of determination, grabbing a few of the rusted tools from the ground as he got to work.
"... Where is that boy." Oswald grumbled. "Surely they're not all rotted...."
With a sigh, he got back up from his chair, and walked out onto the porch once more. "Kid, the ones on the left are usu- huh?" Wait. What was he doing?
Farmer was seen toiling away at the field, clearing away some of the weeds and long dead plants, watering the ones that were still surviving, snipping away at the diseased parts of the plants. Oswald couldn't help but watch. 'why is he wasting his time on this place?' "Hey pal, I'd hate to say it but this place is a lost cause. Too big for someone to care for in this state." "Beep! Bap Be dai!" {Well! Guess that just means I gotta work extra hard!} Oswald rolls his eye, sighing slightly. "whatever floats your boat pal.. Aren't you hungry?" "Bep be, Bap beep!" {I'll eat later, this takes priority!}
Oswald was about to argue, but, he saw the fiery look in farmers eyes, that look of determination. It was so...familiar. "....very well, but at least let me help you. Some of those tools are a bit too big for you." Farmer nodded excitedly, and the two began working together on cleaning the old garden up, tearing weeds, toiling the fields, you name it! They were so wrapped up in fixing the place up, that they didn't realize that.. They were being spied on.
Over by the bushes, A figure in a trench coat gazed at the moment with a snarl, his tail whipping this way and that from agitation. "ugh. Look at em. Wasting their time on some stupid pointless activity. and for what? A couple of objects that likely don't even taste good? Ugh.. Mortals... Or erm.. Mortal and.. Weird deformed Angel guy... Dammit Everette stop talking to yourself."
He sighs, tapping his foot impatiently. "how am I gonna get that guy alone long enough for me to swoop in and kill em? He's practically joined at the hip with that stupid rabbit. What, is he his opponent or somethin?... Wait that'd be a bit of an issue if he was, shit. Gotta take that angel out before it gets any worse, but how?... Wait" he looks back at them, seeing that the rabbit had handed the boy a list and some money, the boy nodding and walking away. "an errand?.. Wait! Haha! Now's my chance!!!"
Skittering after him, he keeps to the shadows, waiting for the perfect time to strike...
Farmer was just heading to the store to get some seeds and soil, Oswald had given him a list as well as a picture of what the store looked like to help along the way. He was a bit excited! His first surface world errand, what a experience! He hopes he can do well.. Wait, what's that?
He's suddenly tackled down by a strange figure, the figure laughing at him maniacally. "GOTCHA FARMER BOY! SAY YOUR PRAYERS!!!!" He laughed, until he got a good look at him that is, his attacks suddenly halting. 'W... Wait...' Everette thought to himself. 'Why... Why is he...'
Farmer looked up at him in confusion, then gave a welcoming smile. 'A new friend? oh gosh! I didn't think I'd meet someone else this soon!!' "beep! Bap beep! Bep bee du?" {Hello! My name is farmer! What's your name sir?} "uh.... Uhm... AHEM. none of your business!!!!" Everette snapped back. 'Dangit.C'mon. He's right here. Just kill him! Stab him! Maim! Maul!!!' But.. No matter how much he argued with himself, he just couldn't bring himself to attack him. Why? Is it his face? Those eyes?... 'No. No. DAMMIT' he quickly got up off of him. "YOU SAW NOTHING!!!" he snapped as he quickly retreated back into the bushes. Farmer was just left there, A bit dumbfounded. 'huh... Was it something I said?' He gave chase, A bit worried that he might've offended this new person. He wasn't used to this worlds customs after all...
'No no no stop following me!! Dammit c'mon- AHA!' Everette grabs a tree branch, and disappears high into the foliage above, farmer halting, and looking around confusingly. 'huh? Where'd that guy go?.. Did.. Did I imagine that?.. Wait a sec, who's that?'
He looks past the bushes, towards the road, seeing a fellow in patchy clothing walking down past it, his eyes glowing bright white as he carried a bottle of.. What were those.. Pills? 'never seen that person before either... Wait, white eyes? Pills!? No no no-'
He quickly dashes out towards the now confused man, A look of genuine concern on his face. "Who..."

Farmers follies: episode four
The rabbit ran swiftly through the night, carrying the knocked out farmer in his arms. Rushing into his house and slamming the door behind him, he laid farmer down on the couch, worriedly checking his pulse. 'C'mon c'mon.. What was that? A sudden bolt of lightning?... No, no, that doesn't just happen... Dammit. Oswald, what have you gotten yourself into?'
Grumbling slightly as he tended to farmers wounds, he sighed, deciding to just leave him be for now. 'He isn't dead or anything, just.. Sleeping, I hope... Talk about rotten luck, getting struck by.. Whatever that was-' his thoughts were interrupted by the feeling of blood trickling down his face. Oh right, he had shot himself didn't he? Why did he do that? What was that? His memories fuzzy, he can't remember why he did that at all, but.. He didn't care for the fact that he lost an eye. He was more worried about the blood that was now on this farmer fellow. Sighing once more, he picks him up, carrying him away to one of the many rooms in this old, rotted farmhouse.
Walking through the halls, he gazed at the pictured on the walls. Some were simple, pictures of the farm in better days, of the garden back when Oswald took care of it, even a few pictures of birds... But, many others had been covered by cloth, cobwebs indicating that they had been like that for a long while. Seeing them covered like that.. The memories were flooding back, he was beginning to shake, remembering just how lonely he really was in this cruel cruel world... But, something snapped him back to his senses. A soft squeeze. He looked down, realizing the barely conscious farmer was holding his hand, squeezing it to get his attention. Did he...? 'Can.. He tell how I'm.. No, think logically Oswald. He's barely conscious. Likely just doing whatever... Let's just get this over with.'
Opening the door to the bathroom, he rests farmer on something once more, cleaning the blood off of him as best as he could with soap and water, as well as tending to some of his wounds from that blast with bandages. "I'm going to have to sew these clothes up again, seems they're A bit damaged.. How did that happen?.. Oh, right, can't forget the hat"
But just as he went to grab the hat off, A sound alerted him to something outside. Sighing, he got up, shooting one last look towards the peaceful farmer before closing the door behind him to investigate.
The farmer laid there, motionless... Until a drop of water fell on his nose, it snapping him awake. "h-huh!? What!?" He looks around wildly, breathing heavily, where was he? This wasn't- oh, wait. He remembered. He fell from heaven and wound up on the surface world. He tried to help a rabbit, And maybe succeeded? This last parts a blur. What happened? Something had hit him? But what? Whatever it was, he felt a strange weight on his chest, almost like something was crushing it, his breathing hallow. Was this fear? No, fear doesn't make one feel sick... "what.. What was that bla- COUGH cough-" he gagged, A bit of blood leaking from his mouth. Alarmed, he covered it with his hands, screaming internally. 'How did that happen!? W-Why can't I speak?! Everything's hurting and I feel like I-i'm being stabbed! What's going on here!?'
Crying softly from the pain, he curled up on the bathroom floor, attempting to ease as much pain as he could. Who knew saying a few words could lead to such agony? What was this, A spell of some kind?... He didn't know, all he did know was it sure did hurt like hell.
After what seemed like eternity, he was able to slowly get back up again, the pain subsiding to a dull sense of dread. Coughing a bit, he clung onto the bathroom sink, hoisting himself up off the ground.
It was then he caught his reflection in the mirror, his reflection unfamiliar to him. Gone was the soft angelic look he had gotten used to, now replaced by.. What was it called.. 'Think, think, what was this called again?...A.. A disguise! Right! Yea! Angels can't stay in their normal states on the surface world too well, so they take the disguise of one of the three main inhabitants!.. But.. Why am I a-'
His thoughts were interrupted, when he heard a commotion outside. Alarmed, he ran out to check on things, albeit limping and tripping over himself due to this strange feeling and pain.
He made it to the front door, looking out to see the rabbit from before, now armed with an axe, attempting to.. Cut something? What was that? Is that where the sound was coming from?
"yknow I can see you through the screen, right?"
Lucky jumps back, startled, giving a nervous chuckle upon realizing that it was the rabbit speaking to him. "Sorry.." "It's fine, glad to see you're up and about, that was.. Oddly fast, it's only been a few hours."
Farmer sheepishly scratched his head, unsure of how to respond.. Or, if he could respond at all. Oswald raised an eyebrow, A bit confused. "What's the matter? Run out of things to say?" "Uhm..." "...eh, that's fine, its understandable really, given the injuries... Say, farmer, mind opening the oven in the kitchen for me?? Could use a hand here" huh? The rabbit.. Needs help? Well, help is something luc- farmer could do! Saluting A bit, he ran off to find the kitchen, excited at the thought of being able to help! 'Let's see let's see, uhm... Aha! There it is!' He went to open the oven, then got set back by the amount of ash in it. 'ulg.. What in the- has this thing been cleaned since.. Ever? No, this won't do!!'
Rolling up his sleeves, he got to work. After awhile, Oswald walked in, carrying pieces of wood. His ears perked up at quite a sight... The entire kitchen was clean, farmer busily sweeping away. "...ahem."
Farmer jumped, startled. "...did you do this?" "Uhm...." He looks around, then chuckles nervously. Seems he got carried away on cleaning. "Oops..." "...thanks, I guess. I hadn't really cleaned this place in awhile." Huh? He's being thanked? So he didn't mess up? Good to know!
"stand back, I gotta put these logs in.." "Right!" He moves out of the way, Oswald walking over and setting the logs inside, lighting a small fire. "there. That'll work for now... Why don't you go rest on the couch for A bit, it'll be awhile until there's actually food on the table..."
Farmer was about to respond, when he realized that... Oswald's eye hadn't been tended to! It was exposed to the elements, still bleeding a bit to boot! Alarmed, he ran over to him, pointing at the eye. "What, this? It's fine, honest-" farmer wasn't gonna take that as an answer at all. "where are the banda-COUGH COUGH cough-" shit. He forgot he can't speak. Holding in the blood that almost flew out, he winced a bit, yet quickly gathered himself. He can't falter when someone's injured! "Uh.. Are you ok?- WOAH" farmer had grabbed him by the hand, and was leading him back to the bathroom. Despite his small size, Oswald was pulled along with no problem at all! Just how strong was he!? "Bandages...." "Huh?- oh, where they are? Should still be on the counter-"
he was sat down, farmer quickly grabbing the bandages from the counter, and cleaning the bullet wound out with a cloth and some water. Oswald was confused, why was he so worried? It.. Kind of reminded him of... "There!" His thoughts were interrupted, the farmer having bandaged up the bullet wound. Farmer took a step back to see if it was even, then noticed.. The various cuts in the rabbits ears, arms and legs. Did he fight something? What is with all these injuries? surely he didn't..Unless...
'No. Lets not focus on that for now' farmer thought to himself, as he tended to the various injuries on Oswald, cleaning them out and covering them with bandages. Oswald only stared, dumbfounded. "Uh... Thanks.. I guess... What happened earlier?" "Hm?" "With the coughing..."
"oh... Uh..." Farmer didn't know how to respond to that, especially since he didn't quite understand it himself. He didn't know why he couldn't communicate more than a word and a few sounds without coughing, but it was kinda sorta starting to stress him out. "Hm... Try this" "huh?- !!!"
He jumped back at the sound that Oswald made. It sounded like a chainsaw? The hell waa that??
"Calm down, its just chromlish." Chromlish? "Everyone has one, you kinda just gotta focus.. Instead of forming words, try looking deep into your soul to find your inner sound.... Or whatever. I dunno, I'm not the best at describing it." "Hm..."
Farmer thought for A moment. Well.. He couldn't speak anyway, but.. Maybe he could try this.. 'chromlish' he speaks of?.. Let's see.. Focus, farmer.
He closed his eyes, eliminating any sounds that met his ears, focusing on his.. Soul?.. He didn't really like doing this for a reason... But... Gotta find some way to communicate, right? Focus.. Focus.. Aha!
He opened his mouth, and a soft sound left it. A little.. "beep!" "....hm... Eh, expected, seems to be common... But, there you go, that's chromlish. Would that work for now?"
Farmer thought for A moment, then nodded. seems this strange pain didn't happen if he spoke this language. Yay! A loophole! "Great.. Cannnn we go eat now? Its been a long day and.. Honestly you look like you hadn't eaten in months sooo...."
Farmer nodded, and held his hand, Oswald leading him back to the kitchen to make dinner.
An end to an otherwise chaotic Wednesday, wouldn't you say? So much happening in one single day.. But, this was only the beginning. After all...
There's more to this tale than meets the eye.
