i went to a dance and the lady who runs it doesn't let the guys dance with guys (even though there's more guys then girls!) and the girls aren't allowed to ask guys to dance. girls aren't allowed to refuse a dance request from a guy, and if they do, they can't accept a dance from another guy (which is ridiculous because some dudes are absolute creeps who should not be able to get in the way of someone dancing with someone who isn't). girls aren't allowed to wear shorts or tank tops, and at the BIG dance, they aren't allowed to wear pants at all! Mind you, the ONLY enforcement of these "rules" are her calling people out in front of everyone. (there have been several protests)

THIS time we were struggling with this one dance and she pulled out her stupid microphone and said "Parents, if your child doesn't know this dance, it means they're not practicing at practice, ooOOOOoooOoOOO haha"

AND LIKE A LOT OF PEOPLE THERE HAVE LEARNING DISABILITIES DID YOU THINK ABOUT THAT? And even more of them have such shit home lives that they can't even make it to half the practices! And the ones who DO go to the practices and *don't dance* are such cocky assholes that your strategy of embarrassing them WOULDN'T. WORK.

so in the end you have people WHO ARE TRYING THEIR DAMNDEST TO LEARN THESE DANCES upset because of your inconsiderateness!

in conclusion, my dance teacher is a sexist, ableist karen and i have great remorse for her.

bonus: one time these ten-year-olds wanted to dance but their parents weren't there and boss lady did her stupid little rant (i think she shed some tears!) to the other parents about how "this isn't a drop-off program, you have a responsibility" blah blah blah WHICH IS A JUSTIFIED COMPLAINT but the parents of the ten-year-olds weren't even there to hear it and you're just stealing dance time from the remaining students in vain!

to elaborate for anyone who's confused, anxiety, autism, adhd, ocd, ptsd, etc. can often cause people to become overwhelmed by certain environments. Same goes for physically disabled people.

Most of the time we can deduce the situation beforehand by ourselves, as in my deaf friend doesn't go to concerts because, y'know, he's deaf, but depending on the disability it can impact that ability as well. (ex. autism/adhd can cause someone to zone out/not understand the planning process)

Another thing, stay away from impromptu planning please! Trying to organize a group of people who can't decide where they're going is a trigger in itself for me, and I (and some of my other friends) often just excuse ourselves when it gets to that point. A separate downside of this is that people can't research if the place they're going to has things that hinder them beforehand. This can cause them to be in a very stressful, or even inaccessible environment!

So it's always really nice when someone knows people's triggers and warns them about it! Even if you're not sure, being thorough is always appreciated :)
