Wow it’s been a while...
But it’s currently the last few days before we leave for Winter Break! Woot! I haven’t been home since Christmas so this is very VERY exciting. As you can tell by my lack of tumblr presence, school has been keeping me plenty busy; as stressful as it might get at times, I am naturally more happy here. I’m very excited for our Early Action applicants and I can’t weet to start meeting the Great Class of 2020!

What do you think got you into Princeton?
Honestly, I have no idea. I’m definitely not one of those people who founded a company, volunteered with doctors in Africa, is a varsity athlete… and that’s a lot of the population here. For so many people, you can tell why they are here, what they bring to the table other than their academics. For me, it’s not so clear yet. I do a lot of different things and have a lot of different passions. I think in large part, my drive to do something and how that shone in my interview and essays showed something to Princeton that I am capable of being here, and worthy of being among such incredible peers.
I will say for a lot of people, we are still figuring out why exactly we are here and what we’re meant to do.

Eating Clubs
So the past two nights have consisted of parties. Lots of them. Yesterday night kicked off frosh week with an open invitation to Colonial (with your prox), which was pretty awkward since all the freshman just stood there. Tonight I bounced between Cloister and Terrace, which were essentially polar opposites in terms of the scene life. Cloister was super crowded and absolutely crazy if you were planning on getting beer, whereas Terrace is small, less formal and more laid-back. Personally, the party scene was still a ton more mellow than I predicted, but it’s probably because I’m used to the UCLA/USC scene...

OA
Let me just say that Outdoor Adventure is the bomb, and even if you’re not into the outdoors, you should still consider going on the trip. I made THE coolest friends out of my OA group and I have the best OA leaders who have helped me to understand Princeton, the eating club scene, and general life here in the adult world. It’s pretty awesome to know you have a second family after a week of no showers, hiking, and incredible views of nature.

Frosh Week
So it’s frosh week and I’ve already survived my first college parties (here’s a tip, never drink the eating club beer... it’s watered down and disgusting...), met a ton of seriously cool people, and survived our frosh camping trip in the Shenandoahs. So far, the game is trying to meet and remember people, as well as network, find what you’re interested in, and begin to plan your fall class schedule. Frosh week has definitely been such a fun week, and I’m excited to continue the fun stuff next week!

Do you think rape culture is prevalent at a school like Dartmouth?
I’m not sure what you’re meaning by “a school like dartmouth,” because at all college campuses, rape/sexual assault is present. It’s difficult to gauge how prevalent because of how each school deals with these things, or if it’s brushed under the carpet. Maybe not so much because it is an ivy and the party scene is considerably more mild than a state school per se, but definitely there since dartmouth is a party ivy. Not exactly an expert though and I could be wrong; this is just if I had to guess...

How do you deal with stress/depression?
Stress definitely gets to me, and when it's overwhelming I shut everything down. I stop, maybe have a good cry or punch my punching bag (best investment I've ever made), and take me time. I figure if I'm stressed or not emotionally stable I'm not doing quality work. Might as well take that wasted time and spend it on recovery. I also make a point to talk to someone like my sister or trusted advisor, just to unwind. It definitely helps. In terms of depression, I'm not depressed in the clinical term, but I definitely feel majorly bogged down at times, sometimes for weeks on end. I usually find myself working more to distract myself, and watching endless cat videos on the Internet. I also turn to art, sketch booking, and journaling, it's a great outlet.

LAST DAY IN CALIFORNIA!!!
Start spreading the news... I am leaving today... I want to be a part of it... New York JERSEY!!!
Family is the only constant in my life and I’m so thankful for their love and support always, 24/7. I’m sad I didn’t get any pictures with my dad or brothers in them, but with their exceptions, and the few relatives on my dad’s side, these are some of my closest family/parental figures. Ofa’a’tu!
Taking a red-eye tonight... This might be my last Cali post! <3

I read a forensic report on the Michael Brown case saying that there was a struggle for the gun. Because Brown had gunpowder on his thumb. What is your view of this?
To be quite honest, I don’t trust the report. Reports are filed by officers and forensics are intertwined with the police department. These offices of predominately white people will protect themselves against an upset, angry black community. That’s just what happens. It could’ve easily been changed to fit the narrative that Wilson was innocent, especially if it maintains the position of power that the police department (and, in Ferguson/the nation as well, white people) holds. And to be honest, my dad worked in YA and has said that it wasn’t uncommon for an officer to change a report or pull some strings.
From the witness statements I read, the ‘evidence’ would not fall in line, especially since there were so many saying one thing, though the forensic file another. With the history of racial tensions and the mindset of some people even in this “post-racial” age or whatever, I’m not surprised.
Verdict? The forensic report to me is sketchy and I wouldn’t put it past someone to alter or cover things up. I mean Sandra Bland was only just declared a homicide…

What are your views on anarcho syndicalism?
Well after quickly skimming the Wikipedia page on it, I do agree with it’s beliefs that power corrupts and that the state will always push its own agenda rather than protect the common person. Then again, I only really read the Wikipedia summary so feel free to educate me on the topic because I’m sure I’m missing something big and/or got something wrong…
