saw someone criticizing the transfem werewolf metaphor and comparing it to how zootopia (badly) sets up predator vs prey as a race analogy and i feel like i should clarify

the transfem werewolf metaphor works because people assume werewolves will be predators to humans, when in reality, real wolves are just. not really all that dangerous to people

and yeah you could argue that a lot of werewolf mythology involves them being violent but thats part of the metaphor! how many people do you think got their impression of trans women absolutely ruined by someone telling a story of some trans girl and calling her a child predator or a big scary man in the woman’s bathroom? because it’s quite a few!

the metaphor works because, much like werewolves, there’s really no reason to assume that trans women are dangerous to anyone else except what people (who have had their fear weaponized) say about them

We don't talk over trans women who say they're uncomfortable with the depiction of trans women in the movie as predators and manipulators who commit r@p3 by deception against cis men by pretending to be a cis woman. How about we don't operate on the assumption that trans women who have been made fun of and called Frank N Furter as a transmisogynistic joke, are just fuddy duddies. These women are important and members of our queer community and are just as valid as everyone else. A piece of media created by a cis man with some choice words on trans women specifically, has content that is, objectively speaking, transmisogynistic riffing. You cannot remove that fact, you can only choose to ignore it. Some people can and do ignore it to reclaim that film, that's fine! But don't pretend like trans women owe you their comfort in the things you like. People are allowed to be upset with how they're represented.

I don't think people who are die hard rocky horror picture show fans have had the experience I have had as a transwomen. Men who find me attractive are gay or at least bi. Women who are into me aren't gay they just have weird fetishes. When my chest is exposed I'm not nude cause I don't have "real" boobs.

Have the problematic representation you want I don't care but your "gay" awakening is at the cost of seeing me as a man. Have you ever been called frankenfurter for simply existing.

Queer liberation but make sure that Trans women are the last and biggest target. I watched it in a crowd and honestly didn't see why people liked it so much. Feels like transwomen are the joke yet again.

Listen. I was a Queer Teen once!! Rocky Horror was so formative for my adolescence and it’s the entire reason I met my fiancée!! But you look at it through the lens of knowing now that Richard O Brian is a raging transphobe SPECIFICALLY transmisogynistic and it’s like…oh. You see it for what it is, just a caricature of a trans woman who’s a predator and whose entire name is just a dick joke. I can’t like…if he made Rock Horror from a place of love for the queer community (ALL OF THE COMMUNITY not just cis gay men) it simply would be a different film.

Being able to casually mention trans stuff to people is so freeing. To be able to talk about my life without it being seen as a hot-button topic. To mention top surgery plans and the response be completely natural and not immediately "You're mutilating your body!". I love being trans. Sure, being transgender isn't the only thing about me. It's just one little facet of my life in the grand scheme of things. But I'm able to talk about every other facet of my life without it causing an argument. So why should that part of my life be any different?
