To the person talking about typecasting, In Memoriam (a period piece set during WWI) would be absolutely nothing like Heartstopper or anything Marvel lol. Joe is also young and is going to play young for a while, he’s not gonna be cast as a 30 year old anytime soon regardless, and I don’t think he should shy away from compelling gay roles for fear of typecasting! This is all super hypothetical anyway, but people need to chill out.

I don’t feel like Joe has mentioned a soldier role before? I know he’s talked about wanting an action movie role or a villain role (or a Disney prince or Spring Awakening lol), but the soldier thing felt new and suspiciously specific, unless I’m forgetting stuff

name an actor who is out and it best known for playing gay roles that doesn’t have abs/muscles that is also playing straight….no one that I know of….Yea Timmy gets straight roles but that’s because he’s straight and everyone knows that. Jonathan Bailey gets straight roles because he’s considered conventionally attractive and he’s built like crazy. I don’t want Joe to change anything about himself just to get roles but anyone who thinks the industry is going to give him straight roles is fooling themselves on how incredibly hard that will be for him. That’s why still to this day so many actors are closeted.

no ones expecting ppl to give joe the role bt i remember what wentworth miller mentioned abt acting and auditions which is that if you have what they need/looking for, you’re in business. my point, or basically majority of ppls point is that joe IN OUR OPINION, is versatile as an actor that he could prob prove to casting agents that he can be convincing in a straight role, thats all

We do have to be realistic and acknowledge that Joe is going to have to work super super hard to ever play straight. Not that he can’t do it but Hollywood is homophobic. That’s just a fact. Jonathan Bailey is really the only current out gay man constantly playing straight men. I don’t think he needs to change his body or anything. At the end of the day there really isn’t anything he can do to change it. But when you are out and especially are known for playing gay roles then it is 1000% harder to ever play straight. Just the unfortunate truth of the industry.

He is not an a list celebrity yet so roles aren’t just given to him , he has to audition and compete against other actors etc and I don’t why it’s so shocking to people that he lost out on parts , a bunch of a celebrities still till this day talk about roles that they lost out on( Jenna Ortega lost out on a dune role and she is considered like a gen z a list-beloved by the industry)or mention roles they auditioned for when promoting their movies …it’s not out the norm and he wants good roles , so he is going to have to work for it and if he is playing in the that movie about the soldier , I could see it being acclaim and what does that anon mean about it being a pattern for the Jewish part( honey twitter folks will act outrage and move on lmao) twitter isn’t real( i keep telling people it’s more bots than you think) and it’s acting, they are just homophobic and the general public knows that by now when it comes to him. I love that tweet that went viral about how people always wanting to start with him about nothing and majority of the comments were like people are jealous and homophobic, like don’t let these people fill your inbox with nonsense lol

i think it makes it more real that there would be parts he wouldn’t get and thats just the nature of his work. The fact that he got hs for his very first audition and a marvel project for the second is already super impressive so now he is in a different league where competition is tougher like he mentioned tho not necessarily a lot, he has to battle a different challenge now which i personally feel reflects how far he has come! but yes agreed to everything here!

I was excited to hear Joe mention Bad Sisters and Sharon Horgan, I would love to see him work with her on something. And ofc he’s gushing about another show led by an excellent female ensemble (and showrunner)

And the outrage over Joe playing Billy was mostly coming from performative comic stans on Twitter, it was a nonissue everywhere else. I don’t really see the issue or think it would be a huge deal (it’s not like it’s a WWII story) but this is all suuuper hypothetical anyway so not worth worrying atp

I personally want Joe to do the in memoriam adaption (I’ll literally take any part for him) but he says he wants to do something really different than his other roles and this role would be yet another 17 year old gay guy so I don’t know if doing that a 3rd time so soon is great because then he’d definitely starts to really get type cast…

I’m Jewish and I don’t really have issues with non Jewish people playing them but doing it twice starts to look not so great imo

I saw one annoying Twitter person say Joe wouldn’t be believable to them in a straight role unless he “bulked up,” and I found that highkey homophobic, because it’s not like there isn’t a whole genre of slight straight “twink” actors (Timothee, Mike Faist, etc.) who have no issue being “believed” in a wide range of roles.

Joe looks great and has a unique look and if he ever wants to change it that’s cool, but unless he wants to play some hulking athlete or military guy (ew) or something I reject the idea that he needs to lol

he just naturally has a lean body that doesnt hold on too much fat, and yes he doesnt really bulk up but he looks more toned i feel??
