Tarzan & Hunter X Hunter crossover

Soooo, I had this in my head for the longest time and since I’ve been getting back into writing, I figured I would just go ahead and let my ideas flow here on good ol’ Tumblr/AO3. It’s been a while since I’ve done something like this but, since it’s taking me a long time to actually draw this stuff I figured, why not just write about it instead?

That way I can just go back and draw it at any point since the idea is already out there.

So to give a brief rundown of what this is, I am a HUGE fan of anime but I’m also a HUGE fan of old school Disney (Like late 80s to mid 2000s to be precise) and I’ve always wanted to combine them together.

I had this one idea of doing crossovers with Disney films with anime shows I really like and that’s how this got started.

I’ll upload these gradually and will try to mainly focus on Disney films from the aforementioned old school eras first. However, just to let you know They will not be in order of the films released. I’m mainly doing it baked on when the inspiration hits.

With that being said, Let’s get started!

For the first Au I figured I’d go with the one that kind of started this snowball effect: Tarzan and Hunter X Hunter.

I was watching HxH at the time during lockdown and revisited Tarzan, only to realize how much the two worlds kinda worked well together…

…and then this came out of it.

Enjoy!

Alright let’s go:

So, to begin, Yusuke and Keiko, having just recently been married with their first child, were out exploring one day. Unfortunately, a horrible storm caused them to get separated from everyone (Jin, Koenma, etc…)

Suddenly, they washed up on an unknown island, which turns out to be the NGL (I’ll call it Chimera Island just for kicks.)

Thanks to Keiko being far more well-versed in science (because I said so) and Yusuke’s strength, the two find themselves getting used to the island with their son. They even scramble together a house using all the resources they could find.

Suddenly they’re attacked by a cheetah Chimera, Cheetu.

Unfortunately, they both die but they leave behind their son, Ging.

At the same time, a family of Chimera has just recently lost their son, that being the King of Chimeras, Meruem, and his wife, Komugi (who is a bat Chimera in this for the sake of the story; Bare with me here because I’m taking a lot of liberties..)

Komugi finds Ging, who is still being persuaded by Cheetu and she manages to escape in time, saving the baby.

She returns to Meruem, who is dismissive of the child since, of course, he’s a human while they’re all chimeras.

This is where we meet Ging’s future friend, Pitou (who looks like Killua but serves as this story’s Terk)

As Ging gets older, he starts to notice a major difference between him and the other chimeras, mainly due to him being a human while the others are chimeras. However, to make up for it, the clothes he wears are often the color green since he’s trying his hardest to follow in Meruem’s footsteps and be accepted by their leader.

After a prank goes wrong, where Ging is coerced by Pitou to get a hair from the upper Chimera’s, we meet Youpi who becomes one of their closest friends (Yes Youpi is basically Tantor in this universe)

CUE THE SON OF MAN MONTAGE

Ging grows up and has mastered the ways of different Chimera and nen. His enthusiasm to learn and retain information, as well as his curiosity has caused him to gain a lot of respect among his Chimera brethren.

He earns the nickname “The Boar” since he’s usually the last one to show up for gatherings due to his natural curiosity toward things and how they work. He tends to get carried away researching other Chimera and winds up wandering off frequently when researching or observing. By the time realizes how long it's been, the gathering has already ended. Unfortunately, that has caused him to get a few good scoldings from his mother for his tardiness/absentminded behavior.

However, despite living on the island for over 20 years at this point… he’s always yearning to learn more…

The issue is, Ging doesn’t know what that “more” is.

He’s stayed on the island so long it seems like he knows almost everything at this point but… there’s still something missing.

When asked about it, Ging’s answer is always the same: “The thing that I want, is always the same,” He’d say to Komugi or his friends. "It’s always something that I don’t have…”

Most of the chimera brush his words off as cryptic nonsense…

…except for Meruem.

Meruem sees the difference between the two as too great and, since he knows that Ging is a human, keeps him at an arm's distance

Despite Ging’s frequent attempts to over his respect, the king of Chimera’s can’t seem to bring himself to fully trust Ging due to their differences in appearance. He believes that with Ging frequently running off, it would cause him to go astray and bring danger to their group as it has happened before with one of their Chimera’s turning against the pack and going rogue.

That chimera was Cheetu, who was banished from the pack due to his misuse of nen which led to several chimera deaths. As a result, Cheetu returned one day and killed his and Komugi’s son in retaliation.

Meruem, unable to move past the loss of his son, sees Ging as a dangerous liability that could be a repeat of what happened all those years ago, especially with how fast Ging was able to master nen.

Ging’s brash attitude doesn’t help either since Meruem (reluctantly) sees him as a mirror to himself, due to how stubborn both are in terms of getting what they want.

Things start to change when during one of their gatherings Cheetu, attacks the group, aiming to kill Ging.

However, the plan backfires, leading Ging to kill Cheetu instead, and avenge the death of Meruem and Komugi’s child

Afterwards, Ging hears a gunshot which peaks his curiosity and leads him to discovering other humans (gasp!)

However, a young lady named Adsila, who is on a research team to study Chimeras, is suddenly chased down by a group of horrific butterfly chimeras led by a smaller, more adorable version

Once saved, Ging, immediately curious realizes that this is the missing link to what he was looking for, decides to take the girl back to her camp and learn more about humans (Although Meruem warns him about how dangerous they can be)

Adsila, who has traveled to Chimera Island along with her adopted father, Satotz and Pariston, a supposed safari big game hunter, starts to teach Ging about the Human world. Slowly, Ging starts embracing his human side.

The group wants Ging to bring them to the Chimera’s against Meruem’s word, and Ging agrees which, of course, leads to trouble with Ging being kicked out of the herd by Merum.

Upset, Komugi reveals the truth about his family to Ging and lets him go be with the humans.

Of course, Pariston betrays him and the rest plays out petty close to the film:

Ging gets out with the help of Youpi, he goes to save the Chimeras (with Meruem being shot of course) and Pariston and him have their final battle (the latter of which dies due to his own vanity.)

Adsila and Statotz stay and Ging is now King of the Chimeras.

(CUE TWO WORLDS ONE FAMILY)

End.

Some additional notes for anyone who’s interested:

I’m sure people figured out that Ging’s parents being Yusuke and Keiko are references to YYH, since they are also Togashi’s works. No explanation there. (Shame I had to kill them since I love Yusuke so much, but it works for the plot).

When they are kids, to fit the atmosphere, Ging and Pitou basically look like Gon and Killua

Pitou serves as this story’s Terk while Youpi is basically Tantor in this universe)

Satotz is Jane’s Dad if you couldn’t tell and the little butterfly chimeras? Yup, that’s Shiapouf in his Beezlebub form lol

Adsila is a character of mine that I’ve created (in fact she’s the mascot for my main account Dragon Tamer Productions). I added her in at the last minute as the surrogate for Jane since, let’s be honest, there aren’t that many female characters in HxH and the ones they do have just… didn’t fit the bill. (Plus it’s a bit self indulgent since Ging is my favorite character in the show)

By the way, I know someone’s gonna say Cheadle but , again, the whole purpose is that Ging is embracing his human side and… Cheadle’s a dog. Wouldn't have made sense

One thing about me is that I freaking love observing character’s fashion change throughout a series, since I feel it's a good way to get across some visual storytelling. With that being said, let's get into it:

WARDROBE:

So Ging’s wardrobe changes throughout the story to match his place in the plot:

In the beginning, he’s wearing mainly green (Basically Gon’s usual outfit that we always see) and, during the time when he's training himself, he changes to his Chimera Ant Arc outfit.

Once he grows up he wears the outfit we see during Ging's flashback with Kite, once again wearing primarily green, but also a little white and orange (small nods to his friends: mainly Pitou)

BUT once he meets the humans, he goes through a sliiiight change. While learning about the outside world, he wears the outfit he wore in the Hunter Election Arc (y’know, the gray/Blue one?)

Afterwards, now that he’s fully embracing his human side, he wears the clothes he wore when meeting Gon on the massive tree (His best fit, if you ask me… it’s a shame he doesn't wear it that long in the show...)

WHen he’s about to leave he dons the brown suit from the card games (Y'know the one…)

However, when Adsila and company are about to leave he’s wearing his simple tank top fit (the one he wore when changing Dwune’s name btw)

Last, when he fully embraces being both a human and king of the Chimera's, he’s wearing his newest fit from the recent chapters basically showing he’s accepted his role as both potions. Once again adhering to the two worlds idea the song is referring to, it’s a healthy mesh of both. (I don't know what to call this one, since it's not in the anime, so we'll call it the Succession Arc outfit)

Pariston goes through his usual outfit changes as well, HOWEVER, the biggest change he goes through is with his facial expressions. Y’know how he usually is always smiling, and whatever? Yeah as the story goes on we slowly start to see his true colors, his smile changes to overall more bloodthirsty, before his expression turns to full on rage and insanity.

(Pariston has a lot of good suits in the anime but I think I prefer this one...)

Additionally, since his zodiac sign is the rat, I figured that instead of using swords like Clayton does, his nails get really sharp, ugly and gross, like a rat. Evil dude right here…

This took a hella long time to actually get written on paper since it’s been sitting in m head for YEARS (no seriously, I’ve had it swimming in my mind since lockdown/COVID when I finished Hunter x Hunter for the first time), but I’m glad to finally get it out there.

Ironically, the idea was not supposed to be this long at first, but I had a lot of fun filling out certain gaps with my own personal headcanons. I couldn’t help myself!!!!

I apologize if certain points feel a bit rushed. I just didn’t really know how to fit in or flesh it out as well. Maybe I’ll elaborate on it a little more sometime soon…
