My take on the well-known “fairest of them all” girl Snow White. As white as snow, as black as ebony, it doesn’t have to necessarily follow a certain order, isn’t it?

An interview with Animator Mama
Where do you live?
San Francisco
How would you describe your work in 10 words?
Messy collage of occult coming of age and child rearing
Why did you start making zines and how long have you been making them?
I started this year, because at age 38, my stories have been piling up. I also need to re-purpose my 5-year-old’s endless gush of artwork. This zine was encouraged by previous presenters at SF Zine Fest.
What are you most excited to have on your table this year?
My first actual finished zine :)
Why do you like zines?
It feels so juicy curling up with a new zine to read, like crawling into a little corner of treasures. Writing one feels exciting too. Like asking myself, which of these strange objects most needs the light of day? I love that so many people can do it, have done it, are doing it. And will continue!
SFZF2016 is on Sunday, September 4th at The County Fair Bldg. Golden Gate Park, with 200+ zinesters and DIY creators. It’s FREE and will change your life, or your money back! Follow our tumblr to find out about all of our diverse exhibitors as well as our Facebook to stay updated on SFZF/Bay Area zine-related events!

“Lesser evilism assumes that certain communities are disposable. It apportions people into rigid hierarchies. It judges who is worthy of safety and security.  It asks us to voluntarily defer liberation. Lesser evilism may sound appealing as a practical metric, but it comes with severe human costs. […] Lesser evilism is possible only because we’re so accustomed to seeing certain people as lesser human beings.”
– Steven Salaita | Palestine and Hillary, ‘the lesser evil’

An interview with Marie Njoku-Obi
Where do you live?
I live between two homes right now: I work and support my grandmother in San Francisco during the week, and go home to my parents house in the East Bay on the weekends.
How would you describe your work in 10 words?
My work represents the “interior” life; thoughts not spoken aloud.
Why did you start making zines and how long have you been making them?
This will be my first zine!
What are you most excited to have on your table this year?
My first zine and postcards of some of my illustrations!
Why do you like zines?
Zines are the most efficient way to present creative ideas - having essays, poetry, and visual art all in one publication that are all talking about the same subject. They’re cool to look at and I find myself reading the same ones over and over sometimes!

Here’s a fun lil’ comic I’ve been working on recently about my experiences growing up with Latinx superstitions & how it affected me living in America (part 1 of a longer series!).
This isn’t a depiction of all superstitions in Latin America since they vary depending on the country & region. However, these are what the kids from my barrio & I grew up with. Hope you enjoy!
(P.S I would love to hear your own family’s superstitions, especially from non-Latinx peeps!)
