20 Years of Fanfiction Writing (sort of)

Today as I was updating the latest chapter in my most recent TNG fanfic, I discovered that it was my 350th fanfic posted under AnnaOntheMoon on Ao3. I got a little excited about that, however it turns out I actually have 366 works because all of my Torchwood fic can actually be found under the name I used on Fanfictiondotnet back in the day, GwenCooperWilliams. But anyway.

I didn't start posting on A03 until 2017, but I quickly moved all my fanfic off ffn and over to Ao3 because ffn started getting weird. But my first posted fic onto ffn was in 2005 in the Harry Potter fandom. If we really want to take it back, I suppose I wrote my first fanfic ever in 1985 when I asked my mom to write down the story I was making up about my barbies...so really, that makes 40 years of fanfic writing. Yikes!

in the mid 2000s, I fell in love with Torchwood and joined some of the LiveJournal communities that encouraged me to write, and so I wrote about 16 stories for Torchwood, some of which won LJ competitions.

I also participated in two LJ based text RPGs. One was Harry Potter where I doubled up playing both Ginny Weasley and Seamus Finnigan, and one for Torchwood where I played Gwen. As LJ fizzled out, so did the RPGs and I went back to writing....but this time, I went back to TNG.

In the 90s, I wrote a lot of fanfic for TNG. None of it has been saved, unfortunately, but I remembered some of the plots I had come up with and reused them in new fic. (though I wouldn't be surprised if someone doesn't have it saved somewhere). I also wrote RPF (Real Person Fic) for my favourite band, Barenaked Ladies, but we won't talk about that. (I also have vowed since then NEVER to write RPF)

As you know if you read my previous post, I am quite the prolific TNG writer. I also dabbled in a few other fandoms like my beloved Anne of Green Gables, where I surprisingly have only written one fic for, and the TV series Life on Mars. So yeah, here I am. 350 (366) published fanfics, with, by the way 1,609,977 words.

Wow.

Now if only I could write something publishable.....
