Honestly, the thing that bothers me the VERY MOST in the Jane Austen or any classic lit fandom is when someone says, "I'm really struggling reading these novels, it seems like a different type of English, any tips?" And there are always a few comments like:
Austen is modern English
I read these books in high school
It's not that hard
Which I hate because
This is the internet. They may not be a native English speaker. They may be one of the dozens of people who don't live in the US!
Yes, Jane Austen uses modern English, but she has a massive vocabulary, some words she uses have meaning drift or are out of fashion, and having a knowledge of British history can really help in understanding her texts
This is not the time to brag about your reading level in high school, you pretentious, precocious, know-it-all, prick! If you actually want people to read the classics maybe try helping them instead of making them feel like idiots
Helpful things to say would be:
It is hard, though it tends to get better once you get used to her writing style
Try watching an adaptation first or using an audio book, which can help you follow the story
Feel free to ask for help if you have difficulty with a particular passage (and then don't be a dick about it)
Try Northanger Abbey first, the language there is a bit easier
Once I watched Reddit assist a reader all the way through Emma as they struggled with passages and it was beautiful! Please do not shame people for asking for help or struggling! The community will only get smaller. This is not the place to brag about your freaking reading level in your youth

5k words, a trans man gets revenge and makes a new connection.
I edited this short story down from the 30,000 words I wrote for last year's NaNoWriMo to submit to Bona Books' Wrath Month anthology. It wasn't accepted so I decided to share it to get some feedback about whether I should edit the rest of the project. I'd appreciate hearing from you to that effect! Let me know if what I've shared here makes you want to see more of this or if I should consider it finished and move on to other projects.

I am not a "content creator" I am a writer and artist. I do not make the works that an audience demands, or that I think will be popular. I make the works that I'm passionate about, when I'm passionate about them.

So Voyager found out there is this bubble surrounding our solar system made up of solar material blown outwards by solar wind and acts as a border between the solar system and the rest of space has a temperature of 30,000-50,000 Kelvin.
For reference the surface of the sun has a temperature of roughly 5770 kelvin

“I want you to do this with me for one month. One month. Write 10 observations a week and by the end of four weeks, you will have an answer. Because when someone writes about the rustic gutter and the water pouring through it onto the muddy grass, the real pours into the room. And it’s thrilling. We’re all enlivened by it. We don’t have to find more than the rustic gutter and the muddy grass and the pouring cold water.”

Romanceable characters in my new choose-your-own book: August 🍷🗡️💀🥀 🌿
With ending art by me, @alexassan and @kroovv - both artists whose sultry / moody / poignant / threatening vampire art I'm terribly in love with - I was delighted beyond words to work together and see their incredible illustrations take shape for the book
VAMPIRE THOUGHTS ZONE: Almost all the queer characters I saw in historical media when I was growing up got tragic endings and a 'inevitable' comeuppance tragically dying or fleeing the country. (Quite a lot of them were sad bohemian english 1890s-1920s socialists. iykyk.) The characters and the real history they were based on meant a whole lot to me, and for this book I thought... what if instead, that person suddenly got handed a lot of power. VAMPIRE POWER.
What if someone who's seen the 20thC rise of fascism and countless injustices to the world and the planet gets turned into a murder weapon? What if someone who's always been treated like a monster gets the tools to be one? And is there any coming back for the gentler self they used to be?
in the book the answer is in a sort of quantum state of flux until observed, but if you so desire, you can explore the options or choose your own ending by pre-ordering the book, which is out next month
