Thought this might help others who struggle when writing. I know I get in my head too much.

I really really really don't know who to ask and I'm new to AO3😢😥😥 Is commenting too much awkward??? I'm socially inadept and interacting with people online gives me an overload of anxiety and recently I've found this fic and fell super deep in love with it and commented massive messages on each chapter. The author replied to me at the beginning but recently they just stopped (hi I understand it's not the author's job to reply and they're likely busy with their life too) but I can't help but be kind of worried that I somehow had put them off (because my comments sometimes involves analyzations and if I get into something too much I can be too excessive) I plead for advice is this normal???
while I can only speak for myself, I as a writer absolutely LOVE it when people give me long comments (the longer, the better lol) and, for me personally, there’s no such thing as too many comments.
love love love love these long comments, they help motivate me, especially when my readers give me deep analysis on the characters and/or their actions.
anyway, fellow writers, reblog if you love long positive comments

Are you SURE we're identical?
(I just think fandom could benefit from less "hot, flame-haired Saviour of Meridian" Aloy and more "20-year-old gremlin who lives in the woods and canonically thinks falling into a river counts as a bath" Aloy)

Fanfiction is so silly. I am playing with my dolls and people are coming over to watch. Some of them even clap and give me compliments. And when I'm done playing, I can go and watch other people play with their dolls.

Beta claimed Rost didn't 'love' Aloy and Aloy said he did the best he could
Rost did love Aloy. Like he loved his daughter who he lost in the Red Raids. And he raised her as best he could. To be the best she could be.
He raised her to make sure she left him. That she would win the Proving and become part of the Nora. He loved her and never let himself show that softness to her because he knew he would always be Outcast but she would have a chance to live with the tribe. He also knew she wouldn't do it on her own, which is why he planned on leaving the Sacred Lands.
Rost loved her so much even tho she would always. Always leave him, and it would be his proudest moment of her.
Anyway its raining in my house rn. Don't know what that's about. I'm sure it's nothing

do fic readers know that their comments actually influence the course of the story sometimes? i don't mean in a "you need to write it this way because i say so 😡" type of comment, i mean when people are asking questions or really engaging with the plot and the themes in the comments they sometimes bring up things that i didn't even think of, or dig into parts of the story that i've overlooked, or get really interested/fixated on something i was going to just kind of glance over--and it has me going 'oh wait that's actually really interesting, that's a good point' and fully adding or tweaking or changing things about the story going forward. i'm literally adding an entire additional chapter to something right now because someone's comment had me like "oh i didn't dig into that as much as i could have." you have impact!

y’all ever read a fanfic that you cannot believe an author just wrote for free?? what an honor it is to read a piece of someone’s soul they shared out of nothing but love for a piece of media. what a privilege it is to be allowed their talent because you share an interest!!

May I introduce Ellipsus!!!
(As many other people in the tags have said, but I'm going to take this as a general moment to pitch)
I'll do you one better than subscription based. Its accessible from multiple devices *while being completely free.* It also has very little lag between the devices! I have had it pulled up on my phone and computer at the same time, and typed into my computer to watch it show up on a few second delay in my phone!
Online saving indeed! (Also why/how it is accessible through multiple devices). Unfortunately, it does not have any offline mode available, but i have a secondary writing program I keep different ideas in for when I know my connection is going to be nonexistent/sketchy for a while.
It does have the option for folders in folders!! (I know cause I use them extensively lol). This is especially helpful when I'm trying to group together ideas that are connected, but may not need to all be in a single document together.
Because it is actually a website, it is available on both android and ios. They do have plans in the works to create a downloadable app, but as of currently I followed the steps on their website to have a pseudo app/home screen shortcut on my phone (though I do not know how well it would work on an apple product)
Now to address the preferences!
Like I said earlier!!! Completely free!!!! So there's no need to worry about a payment plan!
Unfortunately, it doesn't have any goals system at this point of time, though the ellipsus team is working on new updates all the time, so if enough crowd interest was built for it it might be something that could come into existence! (I circumvent this lack of goal/reminder by actually having a daily mode set in my phone to remind me to write). I would love some kind of word tracking capability at some point, but at the moment it's not an option.
Three. Different. Dark modes. I personally keep it in Nature mode (keeps my screen all cute and green ♡) but it also comes in Dark and Ultra Dark! (You can also change the fonts you write with!)
They do in fact have writing sprints!! Ellipsus will time *and* do the math for you on how many words you added during that time! I like to write with a friend of mine and we'll sync our sprint timers to go off at the same time, its really fun
And just another note that I love, they have a Collaboration system that makes it really easy to send off documents to Editors/Beta readers, as well as a comment and chat system so that direct communication can all happen on the program as well! 10/10 i love it so much for being able to share things with my Beta reader and get her feedback.
Anywho. I just really love Ellipsus. I do like 95% of all of my writing on it now and it has a lot of tools that positively impact my writing experience.
(Also you can export directly to Ao3)
Alright guys I NEED to get my writing off of google docs (fuckin ai sellouts) and into a proper writing app / website.
Anyone have good suggestions?
MUST list:
Must be subscription based so I can access it from multiple devices.
Must have online saving in case my device breaks.
Must have a decent filing system (I like to put folders inside folders if that makes sense)
Must be compatible with Apple products.
Preferences:
If there is a payment requirement I worked vastly prefer it to be a one time payment rather than a monthly or yearly subscription.
I would love for it to have ‘goals’ as one of the features. Especially if it can send me notifications and pester me to write on days I’ve chosen. Percentage tracking is great.
Dark mode works be lovely. Dyslexia bothers me less when I can adjust the ‘page’ color display.
Timers. I’d love if I can do writing sprints in-app.
Hit me with your top recs??
I appreciate you all!

absolutely love abusing the power that comes with 3rd person limited pov and just ignoring things and being vague sometimes. does the character know all the details? no? then I don't have to either.
