The saga of the car continueth - this time we're at least getting closer to things being fixed, though (was supposed to be pick-up today, but it turns out there's still some work needs doing). So, given it's the end of the month, and given it's not going to be getting /less/ expensive with the additional fixes, wouldn't say no to a wee hand with the finances if you've change to spare.

Not technically writing-related, but hey, if I can't rattle the tip jar here, where can I? So, brief explainer: our family car's been in the shop since January, while they went through all the possible non-expensive reasons for things not working.
We just got a phonecall where we found out that they've now moved on to the expensive reasons and, huzzah and celebration, have finally tracked down the problem. So, plus side: we'll get our car back. Minus side: remember that thing I said above about cost?
We can all three pull from our savings and pay for the fix, which is why this is a tip jar rattle rather than a gofundme or similar, but if you like my writing and fancy chucking some pennies in the virtual jar to ease the cost as a result, I'd definitely not say no.

As a quick heads-up, because I suddenly realised that if you don't follow me over on Mastodon/get the email updates for my site you might be wondering where the next chapter is: I'm working on it, it'll go up as soon as I finish it.
(Basically I got sick about two weeks ago - nothing worrying, just an absolute hell cold that knocked me for six for a week and change - and, as a result, my brain is still not back up to where I need it to be to make this chapter work. Plan is to take tomorrow to try and at least get words on paper, and then try getting back into the swing of things from there)

oh character ask meme 17 for sure, and I'm particularly interested in whether Personal Blorbo Anneke has any grudges. :D
(Sticking a link to the meme here so I can find it again easily)
17. Is your character holding any grudges? Are they likely to stop? Oh, Anneke has so many academic grudges, starting with pretty much the entire senior faculty of the university (both past and present) and then working backwards to encompass a fair number of other research magicians, most of whom are long-since dead (which doesn't stop them being Wrong About Things, it just means Anneke can't shout at them face-to-face about it).
A fair number of those grudges are also made worse by the fact that there are several senior academics at the university who're snobs about people who didn't study there calling themselves research magicians, and who make it very hard for non-members of the university to get access to the texts that their library holds. Add to that the fact that Anneke doesn't really have a concept of tact when it comes to telling people that they're wrong on an academic level, and you can start to see why they've been holding onto some of their grudges for a very long time.
(As for stopping any time soon... yeah, no, that's not happening. If the other people involved in said grudges want to admit their Wrongness, then that's all fine and good, but Anneke's not about to step back just because, for example, someone they have a fundamental disagreement about magical theory with happens to have been dead for twenty years).

1 for the OC meme! I love names! Your choice!
So for a fair number of my lot the answer here is basically 'I rolled a pile of names around in my head until I found the one that felt right/was the right colour', which I'll admit isn't particularly interesting XD
Viola and Sebastian, though, are 100% an OC Shakespeare reference (look, they're a pair of twins who used to be able to pass for each other very easily, I couldn't not)

oc q - 5!
5: Did they have a pet as a child? For the Argentum crew: Archer - Yes, inasmuch as he and his brothers helped to hand-raise some of the barn cats' kittens (the raised-from-a-chick peacock that spent several long years terrorising everyone who went near the summerhouse at the southern end of the garden was not his pet or his idea - that one was squarely his younger brother's fault, it's just neither he nor his older brother said 'no' fast enough). He also got his own horse relatively young, which meant most of his 'pet' energy went on her care and keeping. Sabbat - Not really, beyond a brief spell of collecting beetles to try and race them with the other kids on his street when he was about six. Viola - No (and not just because she's a servant - the Luciels didn't allow Amelia to have a pet either). Fest - Yes, part-ownership (shared with his siblings) of a succession of various bits of local wildlife which'd been brought home by an older sibling to be nursed back to health (with somewhat mixed results), and a very bad-tempered rabbit called Bitey (for obvious reasons). Mortimer - No actual pets of his own when he was a kid, but he spent a lot of time with the horses and the stable cats at the Hall.
