"I sort fics by kudos and only kudos on stories with high kudos counts, why aren't there more stories with high kudos, I ran out of things to read." You're part of the problem.
"Authors artificially inflate comment counts by thanking people, I can't find anything with a real comment count to read." No they fucking are not, they're grateful for engagement.
"I can't read anything under 100k." That's the majority of fics you're ignoring, most novels aren't even that long.
"I don't have time to look for the incredibly rare diamond in the rough, so I won't read anything below a certain amount of kudos, comments, and hits." Those fics are popular because people gave them a chance and then snobs like you found them.
"I won't read anthing with a single typos." You made typos in that sentence, get off your high horse.
"One singular author didn't thank me for commenting, I'm never commenting on any fic again so I don't get burned." You're punishing people because someone didn't give you engagement they don't owe you that they might not have seen.
"This fic is three months old, it's so old, it doesn't matter if I comment or kudos, it's old." Fics do not have expiration dates, comment and kudos.
You're killing your fandoms with your snobbish behaviors.

Fr, everytime someone suggests banning kids from social media, a butterfly dies. If that someone is a leftist, two butterflies die.
NO. Kids sould NOT be banned from social media. What should happen is a change in algorythm. For *all of us*, not just kids. I'll explain.
Firstly, why kids and teens should never be banned from social media:
Because they are people and should not be excluded from the major public space that social media has become, especially post-covid when everything is becoming more and more digital and offline alternatives for things are dying and
1- First I'm thinking of the lgbt kids, and also any kid in abusive homes or situations, because I was that kid. Even if a kid doesn't interact with anyone online, just knowing that there are people like them, or that there is a different world outside of the environment they're stuck in, can break the isolation and prevent drastic decisions. This is also why I'm against the whole "parental regulation" argument, saying that parents should always be allowed to control what their kid sees. That is *very* dangerous and further isolating for kids in abusive situations. Don't be mistaken, many people who want to ban kids from social media are actively looking to isolate kids, especially lgbt kids, so that they are more vulnerable, easier to control and impose their agenda on. This is why I hate when I see leftists defending this idea.
2- On a lighter note, lerning new skills. I would not be in art school today if I wasn't on youtube at age 11. That's where I found the art tutorials that gave me the basics to begin. Oh, and I also would not be writing this because I would not be fluent in english yet. Kids learn new skills on social media. Taking the whole thing away from them is like throwing out the baby with the bathwater.
A better alternative:
Right now, all social media has an algorythm that works with the same goal in mind: Keeping all users glued to the screen for maximum addiction (and profit). Even youtube kids. That's not very kid friendly. Or human friendly. (That's also probably how you get all those clickbait brainrot Elsa-Is-Pregnant-With-Spiderman's-baby type of atrocities on youtube kids tbh. The algorythm pushes the damn things)
No social media plataform will change the goal of the algorythm unless they are forced to, because it's the most profitable one. An algorythm that has the goal of improving your mental health, or giving you the most accurate information, or getting you to learn new things, would make less profit. An algorythm that isn't made to get kids addicted to screen would make less profit. Which of course would be a tragedy for those companies, god forbid their CEO's fall one or two positions in the wealthiest billionaire rankings, truly a catastrophe. *sarcasm alert*
I'd love to be able to customize the algorythms for example ("the current one is already customizable!" Kinda. You customize it via likes and engagement but even if you *only* interact with things you want to see, the algorythm is still prioritizing the most "engaging" of the contents you want to see, and it's still using your insterests to keep your eyes on the screen forever if possible. You see what I mean? I'd like an algorythm that prioritizes slower content tbh.)
Now back to the kids. An algorythm for kids (*truly* for kids, now whatever youtube kids is on) would prioritize kid-friendly content. Anything a child searches would result in the most kid friendly results, and probably channels that deal with more adult content would have to not even show. But that would only impact the kid's account. For adults, those videos would still be there. This algorythm could prioritize videos that get them to learn age-appropriate things, or just have fun tbh, not everything needs to be educational, Karen, yikes.
Hell, this algorythm could even manipulate the recommendations so they become *less* engaging and *less* likely to grab the kid's attention the longer their screentime has been that day, making them more likely to get off after a while and do something else. It's possible, y'know? Social media doesn't have to be fucked up like this. It is only fucked up because of capitalism.
Are there flaws to this model? Sure. There are always flaws to literally raising a child. Other measures could be implemented, such as child accounts not being able to read comments or chat with strangers (instead or forcibly removing comments from whatever video youtube decides is for kids, for example). We haven't talked about social media regulation. Oh, and we haven't even mentioned data privacy. There is soooo much to talk about on this topic, and tbh I don't know everything about it. I just wanted to bring attention to the algorythm thing, and express my disdain at how badly yall treat children, fr. Though, tbh, idk how I would raise a child nowadays. When I was a kid at least there were flash games designed for us.
Will plataforms ever change their algorythms to stop frying our brains? Well, certainly not if no one's talking about it.
#feel free to offer up your ideas too btw#child rights#social media#algorythm#capitalism#social media regulation#kids#lgbtq+#lgbt#queer kids#children

I Summon You With Love
Dream x Reader (rejection), gender neutral reader, art witch reader, a bit of angst, tw: ritual self harm
Notes:
So I had a dream in which I was specifically reading Sandman fanfics in which Morpheus rejected the reader.
So I woke up and realized there probably are no fanfics where Morpheus rejects the reader, bc why would you write or read that?
To which I said "why not?" Might as well.
So there you go, get rejected.
-----
You sat in your bed, holding your paintbrush, hads still despite the urge to tremble.
To court a deity, you must do it the proper way. You had learned the basics of a summoning ritual. But of course, that was just the beginning, a sketch. This was art magick. And a good ritual must be a masterpiece.
Your bed was the proper place, for it is where you meet the lord of sleep every night. The patterns of the circle you'd painted in black ink over a blank canvas formed the summoning spell, a powerful one, one that called for the creation of something new.
Then three items were needed, like a letter carved into the fabric of the cosmos.
One item for who you are. One item for where you come from. One item for who you seek.
Simple things, but don't be fooled. You must choose them with poetry and skill, or the ritual would fail.
The first item: The wing of a butterfly found dead on the streets. For this is who you are, mortal, and yet the briefness of your life does not diminish its beauty. A flutter of you small wings could help extinguish a fire, or start a hurricane. You are an art witch. You know your power. You are not ashamed of who you are.
The second item: The blood of your veins, cut open by the thorn of a rose. You come from love, this spell is cast from nowhere other than your beating heart.
The third item. The most difficult one. You wished to collect the moon, the stars, perhaps a piece of darkness itself.
For a regular summoning, you might have simply poured a drop of black ink, the same you used to paint the circle. For you sought the shaper, the very one whose power makes this ritual possible.
But this was a different kind of ritual.
So you offered a drawing. Not the first you'd made of him, with reckless lines creating a dark figure you'd seen in your dreams. The second one. The one you'd made when he appeared to you in the waking world. In which you made sure to capture the tears constantly pooled in the corner of his eyes, the grace of his movements, and his loneliness too. At once a sea of possibilities and a man trapped in his rules. All of this you captured. All of this now burned away, no time to grieve it as you uttered the words:
"I summon you, Morpheus, in hope, in openness and in love. You are summoned in dreams and in the act of creation.
Come to me, my love. Come to me."
The Lord Shaper felt your spell before he heard it.
Your blood filled his veins with warmth, and a crimson butterfly escaped his palm, flying into the landscape of its new home.
And then he saw himself, crafted by your hands in watercolor, graphite and ink. And the feeling consumed him.
He'd never been captured in such a way, so as to make his very being exposed. Where others had seen an Endless, you had seen a man. A solitary man. There was a kindness behind his eyes. And the very paint vibrated with possibility. Dreams that Morpheus himself had forgotten. It brought nostalgia for a younger time. A time when Morpheus had not felt alone. A dream that none of it was lost. That it could be true once again.
The warmth filled and surrounded him with your love. It was genuine, persuasive. The sand began to take him before he'd decided to go.
In a column of sand, the Shaper appeared to you. To your relief, he held your drawing, although you had seen it burn. He still felt your love, his own gratitude... and guilt.
-You flatter me, artist-witch. -He began. -But still...
Morpheus did not look at you. You could not be fooled. He was once again close to tears. Your heart sank and you forced the words out.
-You don't love me back.
-I'm sorry. -Said Morpheus.
-If you only knew. -Continued the Endless, looking at you intensely as he approached. His face was flushed in a way that made you fear his tears would finally spill.- How tempting it is... after feeling...a-all the love you gave me... to accept it, and forget it all... but it would be irresponsable to promise what I cannot give.
-I understand. -You said, wiping away a stubborn tear. If he wouldn't cry, neither would you. How stupid you felt as he touched your wrist to close the cut where you bled for him. -I'm sorry for bothering you.
-No. -He said. -You have shown me something I needed to see. You have my gratitude. And for that I shall give you my blessing: That your love shall never be wasted, but shall return to you sevenfold. All your art that comes from love may be blessed.
-Thank you, Lord Shaper.
-May we meet some day as friends, artist witch, or should you need my help, you may call me. Farewell.
-Farewell, Morpheus. May we meet again, in time. -You said, surprising even yourself. Could you face him again?
And yet, should this be your last encounter... no, it couldn't be. You would miss him too much.
------
And so Morpheus went back to his castle, drawing in hand, and sank into his thone, burying his face in his hands.
He'd been hurt by desire a few times. He didn't think one could be hurt by lack of desire. And yet there he was. He'd loved you deeply as a friend, why did you have to want more?
Shaking the sadness, he conjured a frame for the drawing you'd given him. The drawing that had given him hope, whispered that he was not alone. He would keep it.
His blessing would bring you prosperity, for you were a loving soul. The universe would reflect your kindness so that you'd never be unloved our unsupported. If you wished to forget him, you could.
But he would never forget you. Your drawing would be kept in his chambers, and your love in his heart.
#some of my aroace feelings probably went into this#i felt bad for reader ngl. at first I intended the rejection to be somehow deserved but then I started the ritual and it felt so earnest 😭#the sandman#dream of the endless#dream x reader#morpheus x reader#tw sh#the sandman fanfic#lord morpheus#netflix sandman#morpheus#sandman#gender neutral reader
