The Fantastic Fundraiser that practically paid off the whole 3D printer:
when results exceed expectations
Tumblr media
First of all this design is not mine, it came from a comrade in philly and its free to use/distribute with proper credit (found on the listing)
I started printing these for fun and to test different setting on something small but realized we could fundraise for more filament if we sold a limited supply.
I did not expect that within an hour we would literally sell out of our whole stock; listed at over $300 all together.
I was thrilled to put it lightly, but felt kinda bad we were making so much off another person's design even though its free use, i followed all artist credit guidelines, and the money is for making more mask straps to distribute to the masses for free
I designed the FTP maker coin to serve as a replacement fundraiser item that takes less filament and time to make. Still thinking about how much i should list them at. I usually list things as cheap as possible but since we're selling these to fund the machine i feel less bad about maybe a $10 asking price per coin.
Tumblr media
I sent out 13 packages in a day which is the most I've ever done all at once and the most the org has ever made in such a short time on the etsy.

The CAD modeling journey:
Finding out my computer can't handle most CAD software really deterred me for a couple weeks until I came across a thingieverse model for a Louis Vuitton Covid mask
Tumblr media
As goofy as it seems it inspired me because I began reading the comments and the creator mentioned converting images to .STL and using tinkercad.com to stamp the design onto existing 3D models.
It made me want to revisit tinkercad because its a browser based CAD software that won't get stopped up by my 2012 era gaming pc.
Tumblr media
I began designing an FTP maker coin to potentially make into a new fundraiser item.
Tumblr media
I was really proud of how they turned out considering I spent weeks trying to make this work on other softwares. I highly reccomend tinkercad to new modelers and 3d print enthusiasts

Mask strap printing progress:
Starting out I used free use files to set up my first print. Six straps at once proved to be too many; the creality print plate doesn't seem to heat right when prints get too close to the edges so I reduced the number to 5 straps per print job.
I attempted printing without a raft to save filament but straps were having too many issues with platform adhesion and warping.
Today I'm testing some new fine tuned setting to see how much time I can save without risking quality. I've adjusted the size of the raft to be smaller which made it necessary to fiddle with the plate height to make the filament adhere properly but it could cut up to 30 minutes off the other print time if successful.

I made a bunch of protest signs for the death of Terry, a black man from St. Louis who died for carrying a firearm in an open carry state.
My crew took to the streets and held a very successful protest in response. Friends and comrades getting interviewed by news stations; my poster getting a closeup 1 minute in... none of it would have been possible without them. Im very proud of my organization and I'm happy to be making rally signs and art that actually means something to the community.
The design was a collaborative effort between myself and my comrades; they helped me plan it and I designed the stencil and made the posters. Only regret is that i didn't make more.

The masses frequently confuses liberal with leftist. Leftists are leftist because we believe in uniting the working class and returning the power and wealth created by our labor to the masses through any means neccessary (granted thats a massive oversimplification for the sake of watering this down to a tumblr palate)
True leftists don't ask politely for change. Liberal ideologies have become the new centrist movement. Bernie is a centrist; his imperialist foriegn policies show for it. The true left has no politician. We want a government run by the people, not politicians with personal agendas.
My leftist org has a community garden in north St. Louis, we canvas communities and apt complexes uniting tenants against slumlords, we do flyer pasting and trash pickup. We teach our members self defense; soon we will have a radical queer defense collective that will serve our stl queer district by offering escorting services to protect people when they are walking to their car or waiting for their uber ect.
Soon we will have raised enough money to have our own "Red House" in stl that will serve as a shelter and a community center where we will host things like addict support groups that don't require total sobriety for membership, because we know that drug addiction/alchoholism isn't always something the disenfranchised masses can quit cold turkey with the weight of capitalism crushing down upon them on a daily basis.
Being a leftist is more work than people realize; if you aren't taking an active part in dismantling institutionalized racism, sexism, queerphobia ect. then you don't deserve to call yourself a leftist. Its frustrating that our movement is being muddied by liberal pushovers acting like holding hands and voting for democrats (neo-conservatives) singing kumbaya will rid the world of evil. Fuck their system, we deserve better than the so called "lesser of two evils".

Transparent stencil layers free to use. Please respect my org’s wishes and don’t sell prints of this; this is for personal use and community distribution only. Images work well with cricut cutters, or could be printed and cut by hand.
